60 of 196 · most liked firstDecent shooter with multiple ships to choose from so everyone will find his favorite setup. Different waves of enemies and bullet patterns - by any means it's not boring. Colorful visuals and good soundtrack but might get repetitive over time. Fairly short as there's only 6 stages in total. Backgrounds are kinda lacking but that's ok since there is enough action going on. This one is very easy as I beat it on first try without dying so don't stress it and just play it!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's honestly not that good, even though I somehow accumulated 10 hours on it over the years. The many ships feel just gimmicky when the core gameplay suffers from underwhelming score mechanics, pointless enemy placement, and the lack of interesting bullet patterns or ANY stage variety. Most of the bigger ships don't even move, they just sit there. As some other reviewer pointed out, by now there are at least a dozen or so better indie Shmups on Steam, let alone Cave and Co. Pick up Gunvein,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is ass fire. There is an achievement - to pass without dying once, that's the challenge I liked 👍
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent enough bullet-hell shoot 'em up with pixel art. I liked the big roster of 17 pilots with different portraits, stats, bios and weapons. Would make me want to replay more. A bit frantic even at casual level. Definitely bullet hell, the screen gets very busy. However, the slow motion function really helps and I wish it was more common in that type of game. The blue stuff popping out of vessels you can pick up could be distracting. Gamepad controls were tight. The graphics were average and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 20+ hours, an overly long attempt at a veteran Hardcore 1cc, as well as since dipping into several other Shmups and coming back, when asked if I would recommend this Game I'd have to (tentatively) say: No. I could write an entire essay but to keep it short - The simple fact is there are a lot of other Shmups that do everything better than SGS does for it to basically not be worth recommending over any of them - especially if it's going to potentially be your first Shmup (as it was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm pretty bad at shmups, I am half alseep right now, and I managed to reach level 6 without losing a life, although that concept is a bit tricky in this one. The game is cute. But its levels are way too long, the enemies behave all the same, the same evade pattern applies all the time. The threat is so low on Veteran that I sometimes was forgetting to press the shot button, as I was - literally - dozing off. The game is disserviced by a really bad soundtrack and very poor arrangements, as…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →really dull level design, enemies seemingly placed at random with no thought of synergising their pattenrs or placing them in an enviroment, they just visibly teleport ontop of the level and float in slowly lack of creativity in the asthetics, the game is comprised of static jpgs with no animations besides sprite rotating having 17 playable ships is completely unnecessary and is a waste of resources music is generic chiptune with no identifiable melodies just randomly going up and down on the…

unlabelledView post →So before I start to review this, a few things to get out of the way first: - Total Grade 6/10 - If you are new to shmups, this can be a serviceable start (more dumb fun than anything, it won't last long in your shmup journey), but I still don't generally recommend it (I give better options at the bottom). - Not recommended to anyone who has played practically any other shmups. - If you want to support New Blood, I'd recommend picking up the other titles first. Pros: - The game has good game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its mindless, boring, and repetitive The music is grating and sounds the same it just blurs together There are only 6 stages Game is about an hour long, + the time it takes for you to beat the final boss The final boss is a huge difficulty spike, especially because i was switching ships every stage to test what they feel like, and the one i was using when the game autosaved before the final boss was the donut. It creates a big pink and magenta cloud of bullets in front of itself, which…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"We're almost there I swear this update is BIG!" Mhm, yea, sure... (If you don't know what's going on, the creators are trolling customers on the forum, promising to release a new version to fix bugs and broken achievements. It's been going on for a few years now.) EDIT After many years, an update is finally out. It doesn't add much, but it fixes achievement issues and balances the final boss. This makes completing this game 100% finally manageable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Exceptionally boring and difficulty is all over the place. Stages are all the exact same, there is no feeling like you are moving to somewhere or anything to keep your attention, only a mindless spawn of the same exact enemy types over and over, going on for far too long. Meanwhile bosses are way more lethal, bordering on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ (especially TFB), but also have rather uninspired attacks (repeated circle pattern hello). Go play ZeroRanger or Crimzon Clover instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Positives: - Not expensive; - Decent graphics; - Several game modes; - Many different ships. Negatives: - The music is bearable in some stages, but out of place in others and almost grating; - Dull gameplay, the levels are too easy and generally quite boring, you just go left and right all the time to collect the points; - Boss difficulty all over the place, with very similar patterns which just start spamming at some point; - It's not clear where your hitbox is, so the above point becomes…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An under rated classic from new blood. If you guys had a poster for this I'd buy it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So this game has some pretty harsh reviews from shmup veterans and, while the criticism is warranted, I don't think the negative reviews are. The reputation this game has for being an easy shmup is true. It's pretty easy compared to most genre classics. That being said, there are tons of difficulty settings and you CAN make this game brutally hard if you actually use them. Does arcade - hell - hardcore ring a bell? I think it's one of the best games to start playing shmups. It has so many…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't let the silly name put you off - this game is a seriously fun little shmup that has a lot more going for it than it's simple visuals and bullet hell leanings suggest at first glance. Super Galaxy Squadron Ex Turbo is a bullet hell style shmup from the indie stable that looks at first glance to be "another one of those" - just a shmup made with a shooter-creator toolset with simple sprites and nice colours to look like it might have come out on a fictitious successor to the PC engine.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent 2 hours repeating the last battle and then it just wasn't fun anymore. Merciful difficulty curve in the description is a lie once you reach the Final Boss.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hate to keep being picky and giving bad reviews to good games but people need to stop porting console games to PC without properly optimizing them first. A bullet hell shooter that can be played with a controller but not a mouse? Come on! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2527650904 This could be an otherwise great game if only they'd just let you rebind keys or use a mouse.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know if this was the developer's first dive into STG's but it sort of feels like it and I'm giving the benefit of the doubt that's the case here. I don't find this one to be very competently made. It works. It isn't buggy. It looks like an STG, but it's design feels stunted. Every ship plays the same and every level tediously overstays it's welcome. There's not much in the way of themes or unique pressure until quite literally the final few seconds of the final level. All enemies are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →EDIT: I was able to get this game into a playable state by closing every other application whenever I ran the game. A little inconvenient but not too bad. Because of this, I have changed the review from negative to positive since the crashes were the only real gripe I had with the game. The original review is still included below. ------------------ This review would be positive, however it is bordering on being unplayable with consistent crashes within 10 minutes of booting the game up.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is fun, but could be improved by making it a little obvious where your hitbox is, it's sometimes the cockpit, sometimes the thruster, sometimes slightly in front of the cockpit, other times seemingly not there at all, which makes it very frustrating trying to pick up powerups and dodge attacks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some very nice ideas, The most selectable player ships I've seen in a shooter like this in a long time. Its definitely fun but only worth buying in the sale ( I paid £1 )
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favourite neo Bullet Hell Shooters. Extremely fun on the Steam Deck.

unlabelledView post →After playing 1-2 stages the game crashes, every time, which is unfortunate. From what I have played, the game looks nice, with good use of rumble, but there are too many blue items on screen that sometimes obfuscate the bullets/missles. Also the levels feel very very samey, I can't remember anything specific about them. Its nice their are many ships to choose from, but 17 right at the start seems a bit too much. And I would rather have less, but more meaningfull differences/choices. So far…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's so odd touching bullet hell shoot em up smhucks becasue i remeber playing them as like a kid and being like its impossible to even understand wahts happening and now as an adult i play them for like ten minutes and go "this ♥♥♥♥ rules". This ♥♥♥♥ rules
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A simple but sweet shmup, full of awesome visuals, bopping beats and a satisfying gameplay loop. Not to challenging by shoot em up standards, but can still get pretty crazy. This was also a great start for the rise of New Blood, and I hope they'll consider coming back to this series in the future. 8/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lots of ships, good graphics. However, the level and stage design is just not memorable. Too easy for the most part and lacks creative bullet patterns.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best game for Steam Deck! Works perfectly with a controller and the gfx runs flawlessly on this thing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is fine. Especially if you get it on sale, like I did. BUT I can not recommend it if you are playing on a non QWERTY-Keyboard. The main buttons are Z and X. Which on my keyboard are way apart. That would not be an issue, but the game is not allowing you to rebind controls. This also means, if you are playing on an arcade stick, you are out of luck as well (allthough you might be able to use Steam controls to fix that). Worst part of this is the developer is gaslighting people in the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Summary Fun retro style pixel art vertical SHMUP with a large number of playable ships spanning various story stages and an optional endless mode and boss rush. Caution: The music will be stuck in your brain for years to come. Who is it for? People who love crunchy pixel art and audio, retro STG/SHMUP fans in the market for something a little easier than the standard bullet hell and caravan shooters, people who dig this art style, people who like to try different ships and specials. Who is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little shmup. Pros: - Many different ships, some of which play very differently. - Forgiving gameplay for beginners. Cons: - Enemmy variety is quite limited. - A few bugs, one of which drops the framerate to unplayable levels at the final boss. - Uneven difficulty.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool little shmup, although balance seems a bit weird with the final boss being a significant spike in difficulty. Achievements don't work in the native linux build so use proton to remedy that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This vertical shmup becomes an instant favorite. Besides the traditional six stages main mode, it has a boss speedrun mode and an endless mode with progressive difficulty. Also has more than 10 playable characters with their own stats and special attacks Lots of content and possibilities
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really recommend this game. It costs less than a dollar on discount, which is basically free considering everyone has steam trading cards to sell. There's not much to dislike about it. The music is good, the difficulty is reasonable, the graphics are solid for what it is, there's good character variety, good voice acting, and multiple game modes with a dozen steam achievements. There's really no reason not to pick it up since the story mode on casual difficulty takes about half an hour to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Galaxy Squadron EX Turbo is a fast-paced vertical shoot ’em up developed by Synset and published by New Blood Interactive that confidently embraces classic arcade design while layering in modern systems that make it welcoming without sacrificing intensity. It is clearly built as a love letter to the golden age of space shooters, but it avoids feeling dated by offering a wide range of customization, difficulty options, and gameplay modes that encourage experimentation and long-term…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →💜 Hellomelo! 💜 Today we're playing Super Galaxy Squadron EX Turbo! I WILL PLAY EVERY GAME PUBLISHED BY NEW BLOOD 💜 Starting at 5:15 PM EST 💜 #phialive
unlabelledView post →I'm not really a shoot-em-up guy so I don't have a lot of in-depth critique on this, but I picked it up for like $0.89 cause' I love New Blood and for that price it's a nice short arcade game with some decent challenge but not too much for a newbie like me. The spritework is absolutely beautiful and for the price I paid, which it's usually on or around every New Blood sale (there are a lot) if you have even a mild interest I'd pick it up. 3/5 (Good)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not very fun, no option for key mapping no real clue to what the controls are til you find one to go to the controls page and the chosen mapping for they keys aren't very great either. went to the community page for help, and the developer replied saying there was key mapping to another user. So i went back to look and nope not on either versions of the game i can launch and most definitely not in the settings 0/10 bought on sale and still not worth it, wont buy again.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's no Cave stg, but this is an extremely competent shooter. Looking forward to playing with different styles and ships. Totally worth it if its on sale, or you just want a shmup thats easy on the eyes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ultra solid shump for people who don't think they are too good at them, but love playing them anyway. Multiple ships, sweet soundtrack and solid visuals keeps me coming back to this one when I need a quick fix of some arcade style shooting.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It took me 45 minutes to beat Arcade mode on the second hardest difficulty, but it is a blast to play, looks and sounds great. The harder mode is much more difficult! Just wish it had co-op.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fairly good bullet hell arcade shooter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it actually got that update
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A forgiving beginner friendly shmup that's very generous with its powerups, although they are limited in variety and power ramping.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →average shmup, very simple. slow down button looks like fps drop, very strange imo
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the shortest but sweetest game I’ve played yet! This game takes me back to when I used to play vertical scrolling shooters on my psp and this hits the spot! I wish the bullets were a bit more distinctive but again that’s quite hard to do in such a game as it is a bullet hell after all. The characters/ships all have their own backstory and each are unique to their own gameplay which I love. I shall be attempting to 100% this game as it’s just that much fun (especially on the steam deck)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just like what others said: game is fun, until you meet the real final boss (final weapon). The difficulty spike is ridiculous, because the final boss can spam bullet swarm. The slo-mo feature is really useful here because of this alone. This might was result of trying to please a wider audience (newcomers like me and veterans), that they forgot to balance the last part. I really love this game, it's hard, but I have beaten it like 3 times. I feel satisfied playing it. All ships have their own…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Scanlines option would be friggin awesome........Please, Devs - pleaaaaseee add scanlines! One of the best and most addictive shmups I've played on Steam. Can be played "fast and loose", as they say. The level of control you have over your ship is insane. Very small hitbox. Taking damage never feels cheap. It's like: "yup flew right into that one, I deserved that" - Just like a good shmup should be. Large variety of ships to choose from, each with their strengths and weaknesses. Some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game claims to have a 'a challenging but merciful difficulty curve'. The truth is that the game is ridiculously easy and then the final boss is an absolute wall. Playing on Veteran/Regular I was able to clear the rest of the game with only a handful of deaths, in less than an hour. At this point I was really quite enjoying the game and would have given it a recommend. Then I spent literal hours trying to take down the final boss and simply wasn't able to do it. If this sounds like a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Vertical bullet hell in space. Tight controls. Various ships and playstyles to choose from. Super colorful art style and presentation. Nice audio. Addictive and fun. See you at the final boss. Listed on the [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/40858110-Shoot-%2527em-up-Database/]Shoot 'em up Database
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm usually not super into shmups, but this was a blast! Everything from the music to the art style was just really cool and while I was skeptical about whether I would like this or not before buying it I'm really glad that I did
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Galaxy Squadron EX Turbo is a simple, well-working schmup. It's fun, but on the normal mode it wasn't particularly challenging all the way up to the final boss, where it went from around a 4 in difficulty to 13 for no real reason. The game features a 'hyper' system, where killing enemies fills a special bar that differs depending on which of the ships you pick, as well as a 'slo-mo' bar that allows you to briefly slow down time for everyone except yourself. I was lucky enough to choose…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Here's the thing, I just needed to give New Blood some money and Gloomwood is not out yet. Super Galaxy Squadron EX Turbo was the only game missing from my collection and I was like "heh, why not." I haven't played that type of SHMUP since junior high and I got to say that I find it really refreshing and the gameplay highly addictive. Reminded me those pre-internet days when I used to play MAME32 on my PC.
