60 of 115 · most liked first#NowWatching FAMILY PLOT (1976). Director: Alfred Hitchcock. Karen Black, Bruce Dern. #31 on my Hitch rewatch is his very last feature and, perhaps, his wackiest! Dream 70s cast also includes Barbara Harris, William Devane & Katherine Helmond. #filmsky 📽
positive · AI labelView post →In rating Hitchcock, let me step up for the four or five of us in the Family Plot (1976) is good, actually hive. It's TV movie qualities are why I like it so much, Hitch directing an NBC mystery movie and knocking it out of the park. Barbara Harris is wonderful as the last of the Hitchcock blondes.
positive · AI labelView post →because I have helped an odd coincidence or two along, I continue to hope that relentlessly insisting online that @cmpriest.bsky.social 's "The Family Plot" is perfect fodder for a low-budget indie horror film (one primary location! small cast! practical effects!) will eventually bear fruit, somehow
neutral · AI labelView post →Finished @cmpriest.bsky.social 's The Family Plot last night. This needs to be a movie.
neutral · AI labelView post →Director Alfred Hitchcock with the original cast for his last film, Family Plot (1976), before William Devane replaced Roy Thinnes (upper right).
neutral · AI labelView post →TRIVIA: William Devane was originally cast in ‘Logan’s Run’ as Francis 7, but dropped out of the project to replace Roy Thinnes in the Alfred Hitchcock film ‘Family Plot’. (Wikipedia) 🖤

One of her last roles of note was as the elderly wealthy Julia Rainbird, who instigates the plot in Alfred Hitchcock's final film, Family Plot (1976).

neutral · AI labelView post →FAMILY PLOT, the final feature directed by Alfred Hitchcock, was released 50 years ago today. I've always loved that Hitch's last film came out the same year as TAXI DRIVER.
neutral · AI labelView post →Happy Heavenly 91st Birthday to the underappreciated Barbara Harris, Tony-winning & Oscar-nominated actress, who was #BOTD on 7/25/1935, renowned for her roles in A THOUSAND CLOWNS, NASHVILLE, FAMILY PLOT, FREAKY FRIDAY, THE SEDUCTION OF JOE TYNAN, PEGGY SUE GOT MARRIED, MOVIE MOVIE, and more.
neutral · AI labelView post →Inspired by The Old Man Is Still Alive season of You Must Remember This to catch up with Hitchcock's penultimate film, Frenzy. I haven't seen Topaz or Family Plot either; my Hitch-watching ended with Marnie.

neutral · AI labelView post →That's a heck of a movie. Thanks #FrightClub! We are back tomorrow with something called Family Plot, from 1976. I do not know a blessed thing about it beyond that.
neutral · AI labelView post →On Hitchcock's birthday, let me put in a good word for Family Plot, which I love because of its shaggy, 70s, NBC Mystery Movie qualities. Great Williams score too.
positive · AI labelView post →#filmsky Hitchcock vs. Scorsese? At the 1976 Cannes Film Festival #OTD, Hitch’s final film Family Plot was the last one to be screened, but the jury gave the Grand Prix to up-and-comer Martin Scorsese’s urban horror tour Taxi Driver. Do I agree? Oui oui! Plus we know which film has aged better.
neutral · AI labelView post →Filled in a Hitchcock blind spot last weekend when the Carolina Theatre in Durham showed Family Plot. It was a lot of fun! And kind of weird at times. Glad I finally saw it. #LetterboxdFriday #LastFourWatched
positive · AI labelView post →Tonight's movies: Brick (2025), better than expected. Intriguing premise, executed pretty well with only a few predictable plot points. And Family Plot, Hitchcock's last film. Could not figure out the tone and dragged along but still interesting to see his final effort.
neutral · AI labelView post →This weekend I'm giving a 30-minute talk just on the wink to the camera, the final shot in Hitchcock's Family Plot (and the final shot of Hitchcock's final film). Loads of stuff on looks really great!
neutral · AI labelView post →Post a 70s movie that starts with the letter F Family Plot (1976)

With his final film, did the Master of Suspense prove he’s “still got it”? Or is he going for something different entirely? (links in 🧵) #filmsky #movies #podcast

Film iyi mi kötü mü diye sormayın; kapı gibi Hitchcock yazıyor zaten. Karen Black, Bruce Dern da var. FAMILY PLOT (1976) by Alfred Hitchcock Devam: boxd.it/cl5tGl
neutral · AI labelView post →I think #NorthByNorthwest is writer Ernest Lehman's best screenplay. And, that saying something, considering some of his other work on The Sound of Music, West Side Story, and Sweet Smell of Success. He also wrote Hitchcock's final film, Family Plot (1976) which is another fun one. #TCMParty
positive · AI labelView post →Happy #LetterboxdFriday! Time to post your #LastFourWatched 🍿🎉📽️ Finally watched a couple that I’ve been meaning to watch for a while. Hitchcock’s final film, Family Plot, was so fun!
positive · AI labelView post →I’m also happy to note that as much as I choose to and am generally able to assess creative work without dipping into issues of morality, I think that Frenzy is a deeply immoral film, and I’ll never sit through it again. Whereas Family Plot simply smells.
negative · AI labelView post →#NowWatching #ScaryMovieMonth Hitchcock Presents Night Rope | 1948 Strangers on a Train | 1951 Family Plot | 1976 Hitch’s frequent inclusion of casual (as it should be) queer representation (abundance in these three!) is heroic. @j60660.bsky.social
neutral · AI labelView post →It's also a symbol of the decline in Hollywood movies. The major studio releases that opened wide the week before Easter '76 were "All the President's Men," "The Bad News Bears" and Hitchcock's final film, "Family Plot." This year the only studio release was an animated Super Mario Brothers sequel.
neutral · AI labelView post →Katherine Helmond appeared in Hitchcock's final movie, Family Plot (1976). She was good, but it was a dramatic role.
neutral · AI labelView post →FAMILY PLOT, Alfred Hitchcock's final movie, was released 50 years ago today.
neutral · AI labelView post →First time watch of Hitch's last movie Family Plot. I think this one is a dark comedy. #FrightClub
positive · AI labelView post →Letterboxd Last Eight Watched. 40 Acres surpassed my expectations--see it on a big screen if you can. Bonus: Quinault watching Family Plot (transfixed by Barbara Harris, I'd imagine). The Cat and the Canary: tinyurl.com/48vcymuz Will: tinyurl.com/273d433j Will screening info: tinyurl.com/547kp8ct

neutral · AI labelView post →Shadow of a Doubt's *Americanness* is really compelling, I think. Also, is it the only Hitch film that truly alludes (with the psychic connection between the Charlies) to the supernatural? (I'm not counting Family Plot.)
neutral · AI labelView post →Time for my 36th Hitchcock film, FAMILY PLOT ('76).
neutral · AI labelView post →I would say that I Confess, The Wrong Man, and of course Topaz qualify as authentically dull. Family Plot isn't so much dull as incompetent (but, sure, it's dull). No film featuring Lila Kedrova could ever truly be called dull.
negative · AI labelView post →Spielberg should do a FABELMANS sequel about the early days of little Sammy Fabelman's career and the making of his first hit film. And the last scene needs to be Sammy Fabelman confidently walking onto the set of FAMILY PLOT and Alfred Hitchcock, without even looking at him, tells him to fuck off.
neutral · AI labelView post →I love a lot of the "second string" Hitchcocks like "Foreign Correspondent" & "Stage Fright" & "Family Plot" more than "Vertigo" (I get that it's an important movie but I'd much rather watch one of the fun ones!)
positive · AI labelView post →I disliked “Family Plot” for many years, feeling it was uncharacteristically slight and TV-movie-ish (most of Hitch’s eps for his own anthology series are better), but have since warmed up to it…good fun for Dern & Hitch’s third collaboration...
neutral · AI labelView post →#NowWatching Alfred Hitchcock's last movie, Family Plot (1976).

neutral · AI labelView post →We're watching "Rope" because it's Hitchcock and Jimmy Stewart but also because we found it while discovering that "Family Plot" is Hitch's last movie. Also bc it's 81 minutes long and that transitions into time for dinner well. (Á propos of nothing, #FrightClub.)
neutral · AI labelView post →Celebrating the Master of Suspense! This is a genuine promotional still from "Family Plot," showing Alfred Hitchcock with a reel from each of his 53 films. The macabre comedy would be his final movie. #alfredhitchcock #masterofsuspense #collectorsitem #moviestills #classicmovies tiny.cc/219l001
neutral · AI labelView post →The combination of Barbara Harris and Karen Black on the same movie just makes me ecstatic. Family Plot and Nashville are both high on my list 🎇
positive · AI labelView post →Hitchcock’s beginning as a Northern California regional film-maker, which would continue with Vertigo, The Birds, and Family Plot.
neutral · AI labelView post →I watched Dazed and Confused (1993) last night. The movie is set in 1976, the year Family Plot was released hence the sign. Apparently, not as many people enjoy quirkiness. I enjoyed both films immensely.🤓 7.6/10 IMDb vs 6.8/10 IMDb #DazedandConfused #FamilyPlot #Hitchcock

neutral · AI labelView post →I am glad Family Plot keeps it from being his last film. I don't think it's as good, but it's so much lighter.
positive · AI labelView post →It's unnervingly fine, and it's the only Hitch film that (I'd say) truly hints at the existence of the paranormal. (I don't think that The Birds and Family Plot count in that regard.)
neutral · AI labelView post →My ex-girlfriend, who was not a classic film buff, loved FAMILY PLOT (1976).
neutral · AI labelView post →I recently read her "The Family Plot" and was sufficiently creeped but not freaked/grossed out. Would totally make an excellent movie :)
neutral · AI labelView post →Watching Family Plot for the first time. For being his last film, it's darkly funnier than his usual suspense fair.
positive · AI labelView post →His last movie "Family Plot" starred Bruce Dern and Karen Black, the 70s-iest cast ever. youtu.be/YVazwgLDFvI?...
neutral · AI labelView post →When I saw this movie as a kid I did not find it scary in any sort of way. I did find Janet Leigh's fate surprising though. Now I watch it as a work of film art. Later Hitchcock films, "Topaz", "Torn Curtain", and "Family Plot", were disappointing - entertaining but were definitely lacking.
negative · AI labelView post →Again you took my first choice. Here's Hitchcock's last film: 1976's Family Plot.
