Last year, I bought Stellar Interface on sale around Christmas, thinking it looked fun. I was disgusted, bored, and refunded it with less than an hour of gameplay. This year, I see it on sale again and see all the updates. I figure that I should at least give the devs a little bit of what my broke self can afford to give for their dedication. I did not expect to enjoy myself. This? This is not the Stellar Interface I refunded. Is it still flawed? Yeah. It's not perfect - swaths of…

It's not fun. It's just not fun. What I once experienced in a game called Tyrian, I haven't found anywhere ever again. Everything seems so incredibly difficult, and so much information seems to be hidden. I saw someone start a game with a weapon available I've never seen. My starting weapons have never changed or gotten better. Half of the end-of-stage/consumable upgrades don't even tell you what they do. Reading the description for the Fool's Double Projectiles makes it hard to take even…

Game is pretty cool, indeed. Runs pretty good even on an old desktop computer. Good music beat (although real repetitive), good game action (like an action rogue-like), and lots of weapon and ship upgrades to unlock. Might be tough to sustain interest, as only 20% of owners obtained the "played for one hour" achievement. Frankly, I enjoyed the game a lot more once I lowered the difficulty and explored the entire whole map. The action gameplay is good, but crafting weapon combos and unlocking…

Really interesting concept for a Shmup game, you see a lot of rogue-like / rogue-lite games, but rarely applied to this genre. Everything is pretty much randomized and in each play-through you get a wide range of random weapons and upgrades to use on several different types ships. You then go through a random course, with random levels, that have enemies with sort of random patterns. So its easy to assess that no gaming session is equal, each having a different feeling of progression and…

Stellar Interface is one of the most underrated indie games from the last decade. Developed by ImaginationOverflow, a studio based on Portugal, this shoot ‘em up is full of surprises, some great ideas, satisfying gameplay and lots of humor. It’s its own thing Unlike traditional SHMUPS, Stellar Interface is a shooter with heavy random elements and a non-linear progression. The player only have one life to beat the game, or better put, to finish a run. I’m temped to say that this game is a…

Just based on reading some of the older reviews, Stellar Interface has apparently come a long way in terms of balance, content, and fun. If you enjoy Rogue-lites like The Binding of Isaac, or shmups like R-Type, then you will probably love this. This is an addictive sidescrolling space shooter that has dynamically generated level pathing (think FTL, if you've played that) and enemy patterns. After every stage on a playthrough, you get to choose a single ship upgrade that can range anywhere from…

Since my previous review primarily dealt with the horrible instability, which I'm happy to say has been fixed, here's a completely new review. If you have a thing for rogue mechanics, upgrading and progression, as well as Shoot'em'Ups then Stellar Interface should prove to be great fun to you. Gradually unlocking more and more content by defeating bosses, turning them to mid-bosses, as well as the high amount of ships, weapons and upgrades give the game good replayability too. I personally…

I love this game. Everything from its art style to sound design and just its concept is great. A rogue like space shoot, but its random choices is what makes this unique. Each spaceship has a unique style as well as atributes like health, mobility, slots for how many weapons it can have on hand to use, and ram. Ram is the most important aspect since it matters on what can be selected from for weapon choices. The weapon sytles are missiles, torpedos, machine guns, and blasters. Depending how…

Get it on sale for $2, but I can't recommend paying full price, here's what I wrote on the forum- Okay for one, set the controls to WASD and shoot to the mouse and dash to space and change consumable to shift. For two, the game needs a better rougelite system. Currently I don't understand the point of how it works, we kill a boss, then are thrown out to the main menu, just to start another run to kill another boss... Why? Just let us keep going killing bosses. Once we die, THEN throw us to…

I've had my eyes on this game since it was green lit, I've played the demo and I've been expecting this release for a while. The game is fun and addictive, like any indie game should be. It seems that they've built the randomization system in a way that you hardly get tired of it, each run seems like a whole new game! I haven't played it for very long yet but I suspect it will be in my top3 most played game in Steam.

Random generated levels that spam dozens of enemies at once towards your ship without much flare or distinction. 2 ships to choose from and 2 weapons to pick for starters. On the plus side plenty of weapons and ships to unlock. Dash to avoid projectiles, lasers and obstacles. After each stage get opportunity to grab new perk or power up that can effectively improve your ship. There's some choice to make when selecting stage but generally they all play the same. After some killing spree you…

Note: I bought this on itch.io and have some playtime outside of steam. REVIEW GAMEPLAY Stellar Interface is a shoot em up roguelike. Its a 2d sidescroller where each level takes about 5 minutes. Dont get the impression this is something like Gradius, or Raptor or Jets N Guns. While its a shooter, its a different kind of shooter. The gameplay is very similar to RISK OF RAIN and i would say the devs did drew a lot of inspiration from that game. Basicly, while there is technically an end…

I was very surprised to find rogue-like concepts applied to a space shooter. It all works out very well. I almost love this game. It has good replay value. After each level, you can choose one software to install. These software cartridges make each run unpredictable. Well, your success deeply depends on a combination of software. You can either fly through spreading destruction or die on the first boss encounter. You can dash through obstacles and bullets. There are many ships available, with different characteristics - means different playstyles. Bosses... Well, some of them are like from…

Stellar Interface isn't your typical game. First is odd enough having a shmup with different pacing throughout the game. At the beginning of each run the game is kinda slow, but after some runs you start to understand that it has a purpose, it serves so that you can build your spacecraft to the end levels. At the end the game is frenetic and a little unforgiving, you only have 1 or two chance to make mistakes, pass that and your are dead. What I really love on this game: The software, you never…

Simple. Bright. Punishing. This game is a lot of fun. Reliving the destruction caused by a high power space ship from back in the early years of gaming has never been so easy or satisfying. Rougeliek elements are overall a positive, as power creep keeps even 'bad' builds fairly powerful.

Shoot. Die. Repeat. "OK, just another run and I'm done for today", I told myself. Some minutes later, "OK, this is the last one, and now it is for real". And just like that, I kept lying to myself while playing Stellar Interface. A solid cross between a shoot-em-up and a roguelike, crafted by a dev team that care and keep adding improvements, well after the game's release. It's not as hard as say a Japanese style Bullet Hell Shooter, although raw mechanical skill can carry you a long way, and the game can be challenging, with procedurally generated scenarios per stage, and you only get one life per run. No two stages will be the same, but there'll be enough familiarity to reward remembering how the last time an…

My recommendation is not for everyone though... It's good enjoyable arcade fun in a box, and every times you think you cleared it, you only expand the game a little and step forth in a new level of arcadey fun. Quite repetitive, but feels right for the genre. While it is an enjoyable game I feel that for the type of game it gets too easy most of the times. In the end, I could clear every runs I started without fail, except some very rare cases of bad luck. The difficulty SHOULD be MUCH…

Stellar Interface is a smart blend of the rogue-like and shmup genres, with a fabulous arcade aesthetic and musical score to boot. It's good fun for a shmup fail like me, and I suspect that even talented players will find ample challenge in completing the missions and achievements with finesse. Whether you're just looking for a change of pace from more "serious" titles or to add yet another shmup to your library, you basically can't go wrong with Stellar Interface.

Everytime I need to go afk I feel like I just want to get one more game in. Music is grating after only a few minutes. Controls are floaty and slow. Game throws sprites at you -- it's not bullet hell, it's bullet mess. Hard to tell between your own drones and their projectiles and everything else. Outcome: you float around the screen dashing amongst projectiles that cover everything while firing your own peashooters. Sadly it's just not fun.

Runs can be so broken if you know what are you doing, it's very fun tanking bosses, with caution tho, they are still bosses. Absolutely recommended if you already have some experience with space shooters, can be annoying at times if you don't, I never bothered changing the difficulty. This is the most fun game I've played in a long time. The retro vibes...it's just aweeome. With so much to customize, and many boss fights, I love it.
