60 of 210 · most liked firstI’ve always loved „walk around in and interact with your ship” games ever since silent hunter 4 so this is right up my alley. It has the makings of a really good game and I’m excited to see where it goes, but I’m sorry it’s just unplayable without time warp. It’s not uncommon for a trip to take 30 minutes or more. 30 entire, real-life, actual christian minutes on autopilot with no decisions to make and my GPU slurping down a few hundred watts tracing rays and whatnot. It’s brutal. I have kids,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is beautiful. I love the concept, the atmosphere, the boats, and the overall idea. But there is one HUGE problem. REAL-TIME SAILING. I started a trip. Set the autopilot. Got up from my PC. I went into town. Did some shopping. Came back home. Had sex with my girlfriend. Made a barbecue. Ate. Relaxed for a while. Basically lived my life. Then I suddenly remembered: “Oh yeah… my ship!” I went back to the PC. THE SHIP WAS STILL SAILING. 😂 Seriously now... REAL TIME??? Have you guys lost…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →IT'S EARLY. A lot of y'all are a bit too harsh on such a new game. The roadmap looks very promising and so far the update frequency shows a very active dev team. So here are my thoughts. 1. My biggest issue is the waves/physics. They certainly are not bad, however, the ships all seem way too light as if they did not have much mass to them. Even smaller waves rock them back and forth much more than they should. Even with the biggest ships in the game. They should pitch roll and yaw a bit slower…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of the negative reviews are unfair or from very early on during the development. The game is EARLY ACCESS - you're not buying a polished game (remember that). I held off buying this game for months due to the flood of negative comments. Today, I finally bit the bullet... I've had 8 hours of fun already and plan on continuing to play. 10/10 - would purchase again. EDIT - 30 hours in and I'm still enjoying it :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought a boat and accepted a contract that the game indicated I could complete with my new vessel. After spending about an hour sailing to the destination port, I was informed that my ship wasn't allowed to dock there, making the contract impossible to finish. At that point, I quit and requested a refund. This feels like a very basic gameplay issue that should have been resolved long ago. After two years in Early Access, it's hard for me to be optimistic about the game's future if fundamental…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: People have been mean, but this is an EARLY ACCESS game with a good gameplay loop and promising framework, at least in my opinion, so don't let the mixed reception stop you from the purchase. I've played on the open beta test, so I've had access to more content, but not all stable content. Right now, there's a very basic gameplay loop and not tons of variety with contracts or industries to go down. Fishing is the 'main' industry easily the most valuable, making the mid and late game…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've stumbled upon this game by an accident. My expectations were quite low to be honest, because I don't have much trust over sim creators (a lot of studio release a game and then abandon it half way to release of 1.0). It was a very pleasant surprise. I know the game has been through a lot of changes an improvements (just take a look at YT videos from 1 year ago vs today). Runs great, very stable. Ive encountered some bug but nothing major or very annoying. The world is big and it has some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm enjoying it, quite a lot actually. The critical reviews DO bring up valid points, so keep those in mind, but I'm finding the game checks a lot of my boxes. I guess I'm recommending this to those who are looking for the same things I am: Lots of open water to traverse, with some pretty good swells Lots of ports for cargo deliveries, utility repairs, or selling fish Good variety of jobs to complete No forced narrative (just take contracts, complete jobs, get paid) A decent career progression…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After about 5 hours of playing, I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised by Ships At Sea. I was a little worried it would be a hardcore ship simulator, but thankfully it isn’t. For me, it feels a lot like Derail Valley — but wet. 😂 The gameplay loop is simple: take a job, load your cargo, leave the harbour, sail to your destination, deliver it and get paid. Yes, you’re basically doing the same kind of thing over and over, but that’s exactly what I enjoy about games like ETS2 and Derail Valley.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't recommend this in it's current state. Not really because of the gameplay itself. Is it slow? Yes, but I guess that what it's like out on the sea. The issue is the payments. You get payd literally nothing for jobs. If converted to dollars, a early job will pay you $100-600, and some takes ours, not in game hours, literal hours. There should be some kind of travel fee on top of the standard payment. Traveling is slow as it is but with the payment being as low as it is the games progression…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Updated Review" 06/07/2026 Again I still cant reccomend this game yet, version 8.7, theres many bugs they need to work through still, the Devs are heading in the right direction somewhat but still have a very long way to go, The in game content is still very bare bones and early days, they need to give players many more tier 1, 2 and 3 fishing boats " or at least an addtional boat per tier theres no where near enough variety, ive also noted theres no AI boats and the oceans and ports seem…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →havnt played this since launch when it was a hot mess in multiplayer. cpl friends and myself came back hoping its better. no surprise that its still a mess. pls pls fix ur multiplayer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: Pretty good simulator, lacking some key gameplay features and is very much still Early Access. If thats not your thing, I wouldn't recomment it for you. For what it is though, I love it. To start, I personally really enjoy this game. The cargo system and transporting freight and passengers from one location to another makes this a really fun game to play in the background as I listen to a podcast or movie, and I enjoy the ability to really walk around every part of my ship without much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have such mixed feelings about Steam's early access program, because on the one hand, it's a fantastic way for developers to be able to fund the development of their game while also working closely with the community to build what people want. On the other hand, Steam users see some shiny game footage, buy the game without thinking, and then get upset when the game is in EARLY ACCESS. So many of the reviews here fail to take into account the fact that this game is clearly still in development…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs to cook for a few more years. Disheartening is that the latest beta takes a few really basic steps forward and a ton of large steps backward in overall progress. They added some rudimentary ui and inventory improvements and basically scrapped and re-started on the map, weather, and sea, and didn't really tackle any core gameplay mechanics or incredible jankiness. Overall it's a major player experience downgrade. Even if behind the scenes it's better tech or whatever. A lot of times you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried multiple games of this kind lately... none of them do what this one does so well. I really hope they release 1.0 soon, but so far it looks very solid. The best highlights in my opinion: - Realistic but not extreme simulation. Weather effects, sea currents etc. are key and play a major part. - The immersion is GREAT: The game does this very well. When you do cargo jobs for example, you need to pick up each box for each destination, and place them in the ship in a way that makes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The keybindings in this game are an absolute mess. If you need to remap controls do NOT buy this game. A brain damaged giraffe could have devised something more useable. Not even using AHK will save you from this mess. There are some hardcoded keys, some keys that aren't even in the list to rebind, but if you change other keys it will wipe out the original binding for it (so now it's just blank in the game - looking at you, crane), and there are some keys that are listed up to three times for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update: 05/01/26 There is a roadmap for the game that looks good, and as of late is being delivered on BUT there many many underlying QOL and content issues that are lagging well behind where they should be after this long in development. I would still recommend cautiously.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even in the early stages, this game is great. While there are visual glitches, among other gameplay ones, it doesn't detract from the overall experience. It is made very clear that this game is in early access, so I don't understand the negative reviews, personally. Ships At Sea brings much more variety to the gameplay compared to its predecessors, and it really ramps up the replay-ability. You can play game for hours at a time without realising. If you do consider buying, just remember that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lame arcadey pseudo "simulator" that can't even get their longline-fishing prices corrected after 6+ months for newcomers aiming to give fishing career a try. let alone providing hotas and controller configuration support for sim veterans that sit here stacked with lovely and immersive hardware and gear. on the other hand... with super-simplistic, heavily scripted water and boat physics that bore you after mere 5 seconds of "gameplay" who needs hotas and controller support anyways? just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am writing this review before I have tried the other current ship sim seafarer. Please keep that in mind while reading this review. I play this game a few hours here and there as a relaxing ship simulator. I only do cargo runs at the moment as I have not earned enough for a larger ship. This game is very fun, but very similar to actual boating. A lot of open ocean and not a whole lot of action. If you want something more intense, this is not the game. That being said, as a person who grew up…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2/10 What a freaking BORING game. Twelve hours in and most of it has been the autopilot. Why isn't there any fast travel option like in "Fishing the North Atlantic"? Same company, why didn't they add the function? Lazy development? They need to make some major changes before I play this again. See you in about two years I guess. Graphics 5/10 - Landscape is lifeless and lit up with an odd brightness to it Locale (location) 2/10 - Sick of this company only making games in the Norwegian…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall this game has a great concept, however the game feels very half baked as an experience. The visuals do help sell this game but the mechanics, missions, and overall feel makes it seem like this is an unfinished draft. I really hope this game improves as its one of the few ship games that seems to have the right goals.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've owned this since it released into Early Access, and out of the countless times I've tried to play this, single player and multiplayer, even the new dedicated servers, I have yet to have a shred of an enjoyable experience. It has a very very long way to go. The only positive I can say is it does look nice.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mainly play this to run cargo, and repair things. On that side of stuff alone its very enjoyable,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not recomended Currently not much of a game at all with several core mechanics not working and very little player challenges. Stay away until it fundamentally changes (ie: maybe never)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has come a long way. Its actually really fun now. I'm playing this over the other ship sim that just came out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good enough game. relaxing sailing simulation. I do wish the cargo could be loaded for a fee or something as that is very tedious. Docking the ships also needs work.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely love it. Very realistic looking sea. Getting better with every Update and patch now. Looking forward to future updates of class 5 and more class 4 ships. Would highly recommend if you have a high spec PC
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Price on this game is ridiculous Anything over $4.99 is money wasted. Boredom drove me to reinstall the game and see what has changed. I see there is a bunch of DLC to pay for and those purchases will likely never happen. As the money already spent seems to have been a waste. I was playing, generating money and leveling when the game randomly decides to lose all evidence of progress. In an instance I went back to 0 with no way to recover.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been wanting something like this for years, like what they have, excited for what they bring. Small boats right now, bigger ones to be added later, simple and nice, easy fishing, cargo runs. You can have multiple boats and have NPCs crew them. I mainly want to see the big cargo vessels and fishing ones, but the small stuff they have now is still fun, I recommend fishing after a few cargo runs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently the game has a disclaimer but the tutorial or instructions are non existent. They put what they could in the game and said good luck everybody! This is really really early access and half my games are EA so I am no stranger but this should not cost money in it's current state. If you liked Fishing North Atlantic you won't like this, it is a downgrade.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve played about 5 hours so far, starting with the 0.84 public test version. Ships at Sea offers a cozy and immersive ship simulator experience set in the beautiful Norwegian Sea. The atmosphere is great — from the sound of the waves to the slow, steady rhythm of sailing, it really nails that relaxing maritime vibe. I haven’t had the chance to try multiplayer yet, but I’m looking forward to it since I usually enjoy co-op games with friends. So far, the single-player experience feels smooth,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best maritime simulator made to date. Heaven is a fresh pot of coffee and a long trip to deliver some cargo.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still needs time in the oven. I don't want to call the game jank, because that doesn't quite fit, but it's just clunky. You can't even jump into the water to swim, invisible walls prevent it. The games default music is not good to me, it swings from generic exploration/discovery movie music to youth church vibes music. Now I am no stranger to "boring games" but it would be very appreciated if there was some sort of busy work I can do while sailing in the ocean. At least in Sailwind I am…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought Ships at Sea yesterday and already have 10 hours played. Before purchasing, I read the reviews and was a bit hesitant, but after playing it myself, I’d definitely recommend it. The progression feels rewarding, the game runs great on ultra settings, and it’s a really relaxing experience overall. That said, I'm looking forward to future updates and will update my review as I progress through the game! :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →⭐ Game Review: Ships At Sea By a player who loves a good storm and a stubborn engine Ships At Sea is a surprisingly immersive maritime simulator that focuses on realism, teamwork, and the gritty day‑to‑day work of running vessels in rough northern waters. If you enjoy games that reward patience, planning, and attention to detail, this one hits the mark. ⚓ Gameplay & Mechanics The game leans heavily into simulation. You’re not just steering a boat — you’re managing engines, navigation systems,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played this first when i saw it on youtube was maybe a few months ago. loads of glitches and bugs but steadily the devolopers are working to make it a better game. i played both barents sea and fishing north atlantic and i must say that this one is a way more immersive upgrades game then those other 2 games, the roadmap shows lots of promise and i am looking forward to it. for my own experience it can be a bit slow in the beginning stages in the game and would like to see some more accurate…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I know it's EA but 25 bucks for this is crazy, it's worth less than 5 as it sits now IMO. Biggest gripe is that the update erased my saved game, I put hours into getting a boat and fish farm and.....it's gone. Start over. So I figure, sure I'll try again...Fishing barely pays anything so I resort to cargo hauling. Guess what...cargo disappears. You get to your destination and no cargo = no $ = no xp. I will revise my review if these get fixed but I'm not going to hold my breath, EA has…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ehhhh its a decent game with a ton of potential pending the devs. BUT the latest update has been a negative impact for the game. Controlling the boat is harder in close quarters. It feels like its glitching instead of realistic physics a boat should have. Also, get ready to put in a ton of time doing missions if you're working to buy bigger boats. I'd love if they'd put in easy, medium, and hard levels to have the option of making much larger amounts of money to buy bigger boats sooner. I dont…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun, relaxing game with extremely good graphics and realism. progress is a little slow at times (more like delayed), which is expected for an early access game. it seems like the devs genuinly care about this and are putting a lot of time and effort into it. pretty pleased with this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very realistic, but everything takes so much time. Travelling from one location to the next in the early delivery missions can take twenty-to-thirty minutes with no option to increase game speed. You basically set auto-pilot to take you to the next location, then just watch and wait. I understand that this opens up the possibility for multiplayer, but it's just not a fun gaming experience. At least in real life you get to experience the actual water.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs controller and steering wheel support yesterday! The game is good, not without bugs but still quite enjoyable. As a long time simulator fan, i cannot play with a keyboard and mouse. Steering wheel and joystick/hotas support is a must even in early versions of the game. Delaying this will only result in more ships not working properly with said controls... The review will be changed when the proper hardware support is introduced.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately, there is still no fast travel. You can set your boat to travel automatically according to the route you plot on the map. You can even sleep. But you cant do both at the same time. You have to pay a lot to fast travel to ports. So, 90% of the gameplay is just you sitting hoping to play the game when you get to the spot you want. From 2024 to 2026 Im still seeing the same comment from the devs, the fast travel feature will be worked on in the future.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its a good game but..... crabbing is what im waiting for. i get bored with cargo and and the fishing as of right now. but i love sims and this one is for sure a good one. i cant wait to see what more they bring to the table. its come a long way since day one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been having fun with Ships at sea. Thanks Devs. I'm looking forward to the updates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On max settings, this game runs smoothly. Have yet to encounter any performance issues. Boat handling is good, I don't know enough about real boats to know how they're supposed to handle, but from a gameplay perspective it's not difficult at all. There's a good variety of boats to choose from in each class, giving you different options based on how much money you have or what type of work you want to do. I enjoy the varying career options: the ability to do cargo hauling, fishing, passenger…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very bad game. Lots of bugs and hard to play. Foscuses on everything and nothing at the same time. Very few boats and options.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game "Can" be fun if you really really try hard enough and waste away like a corpse, travel takes forever, there is no Time skip feature or way to get around the map other than a Sea Taxi which just takes you to different islands The A.I is also terrible, Overall 2/10 but the graphics are the only reason its at a 2
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is making steady progress over the month/years of early access. Driving the boat is actually fun and working now, the lightning and the weather are great, the cargo gameplay loop is working and very relaxing. Fishing on the other hand was pure frustration for me, because for longline fishing there is no indicator, where the hook will hit. If I have to learn a mechanic, give me feedback what I have to correct - without feedback about my actions, there is no learning, only frustration.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Development has been really nice, dev support is quick to respond. The game overall looks amazing with the new Unreal engine update, if you have a high end rig, max out all the graphics settings and enjoy :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoying the game waiting on full release, The future of the game looks promising Tutorial helps a lot Its a fishing game starts off with grinding but pays off upgrade your ships and enjoy the fruits of your labor adding crab, lobster will improve the game even better. Try it out
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its good, not a lot that you can doo for now, and game is a bit empty no bots, and there is no players to play with... but hope they add more stuff soon
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is absoulty no way I can ever recommend this game to anyone at all...... They keep saying they improve the handeling of the boats and literally everytime i go back to the game to hope that is true,,,,, its simply not... They Lie to get you to come back to the game.. The handeling is simply stupid.. I really wanted to like this game but I guess thats just gonna be impossible do to this.. If you cant drive the ship, what the point in the game?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't waste your money. This game is a total cop-out you start with a boat which is utterly useless, can't be used for any of the available starting missions, fishing can't be done without acquiring "skill", and above all else there is no apparent tutorials or anything to get you going. This game is a complete and utter waste of your money and a joke, honestly, certainly a drop in quality compared to Misc Games previous releases, god knows what they're playing at with this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →well the gameplay is fun but repetitive and can cause boring, the feature was less then i expected the ships gameplay is kinda boring, well i think is mid game. i hope the early access can change game more intresting later
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A promising fishing, passenger, and cargo job simulator with a rewarding game loop. It reminds me of Stormworks and other similar sims - both feel very devoid of life, in the sense that AI maritime traffic and online capabilities are afterthoughts. This detracts from the game more than anything. I enjoy listening to my local radio station on the in-game radio, the simplicity of the auto-pilot systems, and the overall ambiance. Great "living my fishing life" game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excelent game. For a Early Access is really very good. Fine representation of the Lofoten Islands with a good number of boats in 3 main areas: transport, fishing and services. The sea is very nice and many times a challenge to sail. Waves, yes are vigorous, but must remember: that is the Norwegian Sea and most of the times you are in a small boat with speed by the 10 knts. Already, after launching the game, remember to set the desired waves by the Log/Weather.(Key tab). For me is ok with 25%…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me say this, I would HAPPILY give this a positive review if only.... THEY WOULD LET YOU SKIP TIME!!!! Here's what I don't understand, and its something that drives me absolutely crazy, when ALL of the negative reviews of a game have a singular complaint and yet that complaint is never addressed by the devs. By addressed I mean either by implementing it or telling us that you hear us and that you'll work on it. The one thing keeping your game from very positive reviews is not being able to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cant recommend this ship sim enough. Its very relaxing to cruise from port to port, delivering cargo, people, or the fish I've just caught. Its still in early access but this is the best team of developers I've seen on a game. They have such a passion and give progress updates all the time. In the year I've been playing there has been so much time put into the map and updates with new boats, fish species, and so on its worth it in my opinion. Looking foreword to many more hours spent on the…
