Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE
Developer Croteam VR
Serious Sam 3 VR: BFE is a virtual reality action shooter, a glorious throwback to the golden age of first-person shooters where men were men, cover was for amateurs and pulling the trigger made things go boom. From the Steam store page

60 of 184 · most liked first30 yo software dev here. last played serious sam in my teens. Last night i punched my girlfriend in the face trying to sledgehammer an AAAHHHH suicide bomber. She will be out of the house by noon so more play area for 2 handed badassery. 15/10 would punch her again. buy it!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A competent VR port. Controls nicely, has plenty of movement options. Utterly tedious to play, though. A swarm of 100 boring enemies does not make for an interesting or engaging fight. The enemies individually are quite weak, but a large swarm (of which there are many per level) is effectively just an enormous bullet sponge. Play the first few levels and copy paste the groups of enemies a few hundred times. It never gets any more interesting than that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was really excited when I saw this game on sale because I had heard so many good things about it. I had heard that it had fantastic movement, and was filled with great content. However, I experienced otherwise. The movement is clunky and stutters. Every time I select where I want to move it gets me there and then the camera shifts back a little bit. This doesn't bother you at first, but if you begin to move quickly it makes you nauseated. (I know this isn't due to my PC specs, it is just a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“This technology has peeled back a layer to reveal another universe. Virtual reality will grow, just as the telegraph grew to the telephone; as the radio to the TV; it will be everywhere.” ~Jobe Smith, The Lawnmower Man I said that before and I'll gladly say it again – like music, VR makes everything better. And here's a nice example of that. I mean, let's just admit it, Serious Sam 3 was far from being a dream game. Croteam just wasn't ready for their simple game to become such a big hit back…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really confusing and can cause really bad motion sickness. The building looks the same which makes you confuse where to go next and makes you boring so fast.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game for $9 and I saved ALOT of money. I NEEEVER have to visit Egypt now. I did the math. I saved myself $1,150 on a round trip flight to Cairo. I got the full desert experience playing this game in VR. The full tomb raider experience. The better your PC is the better the experience. Highly recommend.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would like to preface my review by commenting that I am a longtime PC gamer who about a couple months ago bought a Quest 2 and was amazed at the curated VR experiences in the Quest 2 store until I found a variety of ports of PC games, mostly older games but that were so amazing I have hardly played any of the little Quest 2 built-in store offerings (which mostly feel like Tech demos and phone games) since! Serious Sam 3 is one of the newest pc port games that still runs well wirelessly via…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the most fun a guy can have with his pants on.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hands down the most fun shooter in VR. It's difficult to explain the sheer exhilaration that comes from circle-strafing around an arena in VR, a shotgun in one hand and an assault rifle the other, shooting at distant enemies with the rifle while blasting any fool that gets close enough with the shotgun. I have played many VR games and nothing out there makes you feel like a certified balls-of-steel badass like Serious Sam 3 VR:BFE. Get it. It's good. Is it realistic? No. Does it take full…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was gifted this game in December, 2022. It has been a year and I still play 2-3 times per week. Truthfully, this game is why I enjoy VR so much. A must have for any VR gamer!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like FPS VR you will absolutely love playing this. I just got this for only $8.99 and feel like I owe someone a lot more. So Fun! Very customizable. Way faster game play than Alyx but in a good way. Until it gets too insane at times. But GET IT!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thought I'd love this in VR, but nah. Very similar tot he desktop experience. The guns have NO recoil, so they do not feel fun to shoot. It's just way too arcadey for me. Turn a corner, monster runs toward you and with no skill you blast him to bits. Repeat. Some areas have what seems like waves coming at you, which is also totally lame. I'll admit I've never loved this arcadey series, but I figured in VR for #12 it would be worth it. Definitely not. I refunded after 16 minutes of gameplay.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great content for VR. Brought these games back to life.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This makes a joke of games that were "Made from VR from the ground up". It turns out the best VR game out there is a conversion. It works very well and (unlike made for VR games) is full length. Having 2 weapons in hand feels awesome but makes it a bit easier. Even 2 pistols do a lot of damage. No problem though, just increase the difficulty level a bit. I was using dash teleport and there were occasional comprmises such as no jetpack to fight the final boss. I haven't tried locomation yet to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Action VR Game I have played yet. With comfort mode on, there is zero motion sicknes, plus for VR the Graphics are sharp you can actually look down the iron sights on weapons and nail bad guys a long ways off. Im playing it comfort mode off, as it makes combat on the move easier plus I have noticed little discomfort you can roll your thumb back on the pad and slow your walk speed. One of those games that makes your VR purchase much more worth while. Two Thumbs up and a big Grin.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On a technical level this game is well optimised with lots of gameplay and graphics options. However I wouldn't recommend playing serious sam 3 in 2025 as it has not aged well when it comes to gameplay and level design.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the last level of the game literally made my trigger fingers gain muscles, it was an experience playing the game in VR
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favourite VR games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels like it was made for VR. I absolutely love how BoomerShooters play in this format fast, action packed, and intense. If you’ve got a VR headset and you're into shooters, this is a must-buy. All the Serious Sams are a blast in VR, and this one is no exception. Pure adrenaline and chaos, it’s just perfect for that old-school shooter fix in virtual reality.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love how the trailer makes it look like this is a fluent shooter in VR when actually this is 2010 graphics published in 2017 that you get to look at up close and personal. No locomotion, teleport only and weapons will fire as fast as you can pull the trigger, removing pretty much all challenge in boss fights as you can dual-wield and shoot shotguns as fast as a minigun. So almost every boss encounter you have boils down to teleporting as close as possible to the boss and then just rapid fire…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is no way to rationalize not liking this in VR. While many VR FPS go for realism (i.e. slow, having to reload constantly, etc.), this one goes for just bada$$ fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8/10 A decent port of of Serious Sam 3 with some odd design choices that hurt the game. Duel wielding breaks it, as does the fact that shotguns can fire as fast as you pull the trigger and none of the weapons need to be reloaded. Still, while I prefer the base game, Its a fun way to replay a great game. I just wish they had put a bit more time into it and not based it off the fusion version.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FUN VR experience Serious
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Serious Sam 3, in VR! Exactly what it says on the cover. Same once-cutting-edge graphics, same big boomy engine, same dumb enemies, same cheesy soundtrack, same dumb and glorious violence as the OG release, but with VR handling. The sheer enormity of the original game's graphics settings has translated over, and have been expanded for VR controls, offering that same super-finely-tuned selection for whichever playstyle you want to try and aim for. I'm sad I didn't try this sooner, but…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is Serious Sam 3 in VR. Full game. Port is well done, no stutters, no motion sickness, no graphics downgrade, just you, a tons of weapon, aliens and explosions. A lot of explosions.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is it fun? Yes Is it worthy to put in your game library if you bought VR for Half Life Alyx? Yes. Is it worth $40? HELL NO Serious Sam 3 is fantastic, but it's an old game and is not worth $40 just to have the ability to play it in VR. $10 at least, $20 at most. But $40 for a nearly 9 year old game is absurd, especially when newer VR games like Boneworks are $30. Plus, as novel as it is to have boomer shooters in VR, and it's a great proof of concept, Serious Sam 3 in particular just does…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →well good to see this ported but im afriad its need lot work, i love serious sam games always have pretty hardcore. but when playing in VR you see lot times the image splits and doubled lined lot on everything from weapons to even lazer sights on pistol it so untill they fix it i would not reccoemnd till they patch
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you want lots of options to tune for best perf or quality? You got it here! dx11, dx12 and vulkan. There are graphics options you can change that i never even heard of. Are you one of those people who bought Doom vr and came away from it feeling unsatisfied? If your answer is YES, then this game is for you! A full vr game with loads of content and a story, Lots of bad A$$ gunz! Every movement option you would want in a vr game. Fully compatable with wmr thumbsticks from the start. All of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arena style chaos and mayhem... its a fast paced, run and gun brawl that I did not find fun in the least.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 What is there to say? It is like the Sam as before, lots of guns, lots of enemies. The 'story is... meh... but well, the series was never known for any compelling story. What actually bothers me a bit is that the world's, maps, all feel kinda flat, bland, a bit like actually playing new maps on an old engine. It doesn't look bad, but I think it might be because of level design and using the same buildings and textures a lot. If you played any serious Sam before like me, you can have an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Serious Sam gameplay in VR. Works very well with WMR controllers! (Acer ah101) Big Smile!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a rip off for the price that it's at currently. The graphics are quite bad and the gameplay is meh... I usually go into games with an open mind but this game is really terrible... There are WAY better VR games out there for even half the price of this. If this game was priced differently I wouldn't be hating on it as much but for it's current price it is just not worth it. To whoever plans on investing in this game: Please heed my words. Try it out if you want to, but make sure…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Garbage. You have lasers on both weapons that extend into infinity. This renders the game ultra easy. You don't even have to try. You can have your arms relaxed and have your hands by your pockets and you still can perfectly aim at enemies and kill them all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What can I say, it's Serious Sam in VR. It's similar to the regular Serious Sam 3 BFE, the biggest difference is the control scheme. There really isn't anything that makes this a must-play in VR, but it was a novel way to experience the classic, in spite of some issues. This review is more issues than anything, partly because this is more about how the game translates from flat to VR rather than BFE itself. For a review of the game itself, I'll be sure to post a link here if I get around to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Passed on this game the first few times it was on sale, glad I finally picked it up and wish I did sooner! Just over halfway through now, one of the best VR games I have ever played. Its got a mix of everything, blood, bullets, graphics that hold up, tomb exploration and some puzzle solving, tons of enemies, secrets to find, and massive enemies too. Little tiny fun things that are unexpected were thrown in too that make the game fun and surprising at times. This game pulled me away from Asgards…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got bored less than an hour in. Wasn't for me. The gameplay felt clunky and was not immersive. I refunded even with the 75% off because I knew I would never come back to it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to play this with classic movement didn't expect too be given narrow fov as a trade off no thank you im lucky enough not to get motion sick with fast paced games ill pass on this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great continuation of the series in VR. It's executed well and is great for VR veterans and serious Sam fans. Checks all the boxes on what good VR game is . Even if it was ported afterwards this is how you do it. Tons of fun and non stop action you will need a sweat rag for that VR headset 😂
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this and Arizona Sunshine as my first VR games. I refunded AS and kept SS3. This game is just mindless fun, I mean, it's insane, the whole VR concept and this game does it really really good. It is so satisfying, blowing someone's head off with a double barrel..... im not a psychopath LOL
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of the best vr ports its so fun and insane, I LOVE IT story is great, maps variety is amazing, bosses are super cool, lots of secrets to find and lots of weapons when it goes on sale get the bundle its well worth it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very boring game, both in vr and normal mode..uninstalled after 5 minutes of mental pain and boredom. Play Duke Nukem Forever MULTIPLAYER instead,a really fun game with good game mechanics: https://youtu.be/QgZhOyOtY8g?t=504
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best VR FPS still to date. Ive played 100 games over thousands of hours and this is in the top ten for VR for sure.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →VR BAM-BAM-BAM!!! In VR even much more funny then it was (yes, it possible) definitely worth each penny you will spend on the game Page with many other short reviews https://store.steampowered.com/curator/30758463-linegel-Reviews/
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Co-op play is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fantastic fun. Get some friends together and play this game!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first VR experience was PSVR and Farpoint. I sold my PSVR and have the Vive HMD now. I've always wished I could get Farpoint back. This game is pretty damn close to Farpoint, and a lot of fun to play! I love how some of the aliens are towering over you, it feels very immersive. Some of the sounds in the game are freaky and also add a lots of immersion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the most manly game ever made. It is a must have for people who like first person shooters and VR. It's only flaws are the graphics are a bit dated so don't expect a very polished experience but it makes up for this in fun. Also, you can't tell from the steam page but there is a small amount of nudity in this game that seemed unnecessary. But that's it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Same Game just in VR, perfect. I was a bit concernd if i get motion sickness while gameplay is really fast and i like locomotion. But i could get used to it quite quick and experience it just a little bit while palying 2-3 hours in a row. Graphics a great, sound too and gameplay yeah ...running backwards holding one gun forward the other backwards, thats weird and funny :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know how hard it is to make a great shooter for vr, but how crappy does pavlovs, war dusts, etc. look and feel compared to this? Great game, great fun. Keep em coming Croteam.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A truly terrible game. I've played shooters in mall arcades that felt better than this. Extremely generic, controls were terrible, gameplay had no objective. Also, the video on the store page shows you being able to run around, this is false, you can only teleport.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Serious Sam 3 in VR is my favorite just after Serious Sam 1 TFE. For one simple reason, the scale of the Egyptian theme pyramid building. In TSE, it's big but it doesn't have that feeling except at the end of the game. So yeah, the beginning of 3 is pretty lame, but the game start as soon as you blow up the Sphinx and then it's on. The part with the space monkey is pretty scary. The big monsters looks bigger than ever. Lots of part of the decor can be blown up like the pillars. And the scale,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Shoot, just shoot them all. Nice and easy. Performance is amazing for a vr game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really enjoyable from what I have played so far. The game keeps crashing for me though, every 15 to 20 minutes and it freezes the application so I can't access any part of the screen once I take off the headset.
