unlabelledView post →I feel like this merits a follow-up—from what I can tell, the in-game in SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered "upscaling" is a simple bilinear filter that softens the pixels, and which can be turned off to restore the original look. I should have known that my beloved SaGa Sickos wouldn't let me down 🥲

unlabelledView post →High Quality remaster, with a couple sore points For first timers, we get many QoL additions such as : + Better comprehensive gear stats breakdown, + Access to the digger minigame + LPs recovery at the Inn (can farm tough fights like griffins forever now) + Stats inheritance between characters, so you don't have to leave your Axe lvl60 Tyler behind like he never existed + Ability to store items and break them down into chips from there + New events and scenarios, i'm not there yet but…

unlabelledView post →The upscaled 2D art looks atrocious and has been applied rather lazily. I submitted my refund after entering the Gustave Exiled chapter and saw that not only were the background portraits completely mangled, but the static soldiers weren't re-rendered onto the background of the ceremony scene. It was just a smeared mess of shapes vaguely approximating the soldiers they were supposed to represent. I cannot recommend this game to anyone given the lack of care demonstrated in just the first few…

unlabelledView post →this game has occupied space in my mind and heart for over 20 years. it was purchased for me on the original playstation by my grandmother when i was no older than 5. i was too young and dumb to really understand it or get very far then but i was enraptured by the visuals and the music. the remaster was released a couple months after my grandmother passed. today, i am 28 years old, drinking her favorite premixed margaritas while playing this game in its entirety for the first time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →We got an announcement and a day 1 release on the same day?! SaGa bros continue to eat good. SaGa Frontier 2 holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite SaGa titles, right above Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song, Unlimited SaGa and Romancing SaGa 2 remake. The story, gameplay, characters, the gorgeous watercolor art and the music.. oh man the music, its so damn good! One of Masashi best composed music imho. I'm not sure why Square treats this series with so much with love, but I'm not…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →🏆PLAT GET! #109🏆 SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered What a beautiful remaster. The QOL additions turned this game from good to great. The Parameter Inheritance feature really alleviates the entire grind. Lowkey prefer SF1 to this one, but Gustave and Wil's story is a bonafide classic.

unlabelledView post →A real pleasure to find back this game. A true work of art. One of the greater SaGa games. On top of that, I'm very pleased with the way the remaster was handled. I like that they kept the original sprites. As for the backgrounds, they are higher resolution. The text fonts are superb too. There's also lots of cool additions, my favorite being the ability to speed up battles and the new game+. I hope that they are now working on the same treatment for Xenogears, Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really nasty AI-upscaled illustrations throughout. Extremely poor.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a SaGa Fanboy, this is an obvious recommend. Also, as a SaGa Fanboy, this is a tough recommend. A lot of what I love about SaGa is here, but in such a different form it almost feels like not a SaGa. I know plenty of people who find this their fave because of how it, among the others, manages a cohesive, impressive story. And I AGREE! The story in SF2 is so rich, so simply plotted, so smoothly interesting, and wraps up so perfectly, there's really nothing I can hold against it. But…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cracking open Saga Frontier 2 Remastered Overall the backgrounds survived being upscaled shockingly well, but whenever there's a portrait on the wall it uhhhhh doesn't work so good on that part

With all the slop that surrounds us in this genre and gaming industry as a whole, this will continue to be my breath of fresh air from it all.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm going to recommend this game because I love the Saga games and this one has some neat unique things about it, which I'll cover in the review. But, spoiler, the last dungeon is complete bs. This area has the first fights in the entire game that requires a protection against a status effect. The final boss will use a petrification spell that will wipe the party unless you've killed the Stone Lord. The Stone Lord can also cast petrify. So, if you removed or scrapped the 3 items required…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →God Bless Square Enix for bringing this back. With new features?!?!? Loving the fact that we are getting these old PS1/2 remastered games coming. Game still looks like beautiful, at the time it was made - not many games used watercolor drawings. The music was always awesome like first Saga Frontier. I know most people complained because this game was linear compared to how other SaGas worked, but damn it was still amazing to play. When playing this as a kid, I always though this game was a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been waiting for this since they mentioned shortly after the SaGa Frontier 1 resmaster that they were working on this I wasn't expecting them to add anything beyond the pocketstation stuff to the game, and yet they went above and beyond If you liked the original on PS1, you owe it to yourself to get this. If you like PS1 era RPGs, you owe it to yourself to get this. I can't wait for the story to gut punch me again just like when I was younger <3
