unlabelledView post →My love language is reading the phrase "love language", looking it up, discovering it's some American Christian thing, saying aloud "who am I, Billy Graham?" and watching the movie "Ronin" (1998, Directed by John Frankenhiemer) instead.

unlabelledView post →talking about Ronin recently, I was reminded of the best driving film ever made: C'était un rendez-vous, Claude Lelouch's 8-minute race through Paris. verifiably an influence on Mission: Impossible - Fallout's chase, but I'm also 99% sure it had to be an influence on Frankenheimer, too

unlabelledView post →Ronin is a movie that loves Deniro’s stressed-out driving face and hates uncrashed French cars
unlabelledView post →Watching Ronin for the first time and holy fuck these car chase scenes. This must be what it feels like to watch the simpsons for the first time as an adult and start connecting all the pop culture homages bc i feel like basically every city car chase in every spy movie since this were 'doing ronin'
unlabelledView post →Mate of mine was admiring my Audi A8 and started talking about Ronin to which I replied I’ve never actually seen the film. Much to my surprise this got delivered today 😂
unlabelledView post →there's a bunch of examples of this, of directors who would keep the entire 4:3 film frame clean so they could do an open matte for the 4:3 home video release instead of pan and scan. e.g. RONIN and EYES WIDE SHUT are both like this iirc bsky.app/profile/pepp...
unlabelledView post →We had a bunch of people over last weekend for “adult Shamrock Shakes”—grasshoppers. (The recipe is in the movie Ronin.) The eggs are in the shot as a flex, admire my wealth.
unlabelledView post →Been thinking this for a while but I'm convinced there's a certain kind of movie GM's could greatly benefit from watching and Ronin is one of those films; maybe I should make a thread of movies like that should I do that, if ppl are interested I could lol

unlabelledView post →Ronin, 1998. Dir. John Frankenheimer. I teach blocking and framing for film and would recommend my colleagues to understand why it is so important to establish not just location but the geography and position of actors within a scene. Thanks: Vashi Nedomansky @vashikooon for original post.
unlabelledView post →Re watching the classic Ronin 1998 and noticed at the 1 and half hour mark you can spot the film crew getting real close to the very fast cars and also hiding in the arches of tunnel and clearly not the safest of places. You’re making a racing game? hide the camera crew for the cinematic cameras!
unlabelledView post →Ronin (1998) 🎬💙 Directed by John Frankenheimer
unlabelledView post →Hot take incoming. Ronin is my generation's French Connection. An okay cops and robbers film that by virtue of it's car chases somehow got elevated over time to the level of "important cinema" among the dad audience, much to the confusion of future generations.

unlabelledView post →I revisited John Frankenheimer's RONIN for the first time since the theater and man, that is a *movie*. Incredible car chases, yes, but also such a beautiful simplicity in its depiction of professionals using every technique they know just to fight over a metal case.

This is a rare Katei Toki paper film print that included a soundtrack to accompany the film. We still have work to do on this film but excited to see the results!"

unlabelledView post →Let's go chasing cars...two car-chase movies today, first up, John Frankenheimer's stylish but rather empty Ronin, in which Robert De Niro, Sean Bean, Stellan Skarsgård and more chase a missing briefcase around Nice and Paris in expensive high-end BMW's. 3 out of 5 film-authority.com/2026/07/20/r...

unlabelledView post →According to Variety, a new R-rated live-action film is in development inspired by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin. If I could make one wish, I would return to the turtle suits. The 25-year-old film still looks so much better than the most recent films.🐢

unlabelledView post →Is Ronin a dad movie?
unlabelledView post →It's funny even though I think Ronin is a darker film in a lot of ways, MI1 might be more cynical and despairing. Ronin is about personal loyalties and bonds holding together when ideology and patriotism have eroded, and I think the MI series *becomes* about that. But I'm not sure MI1 is as hopeful.
