Defeats the game if you ask me, part of the charm was playing as your own character and building yourself up and inserting yourself into History. Really missed the mark on that called.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →KOEI TECMO has not grasped the right direction of the Three Kingdoms series since the 10th and 11th episodes of the Three Kingdoms. I think Koei needs to scrutinize what users want to develop in the game. I would like to briefly point out two the biggest shortcomings of ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS XIV. First, it feels too simplified in terms of game content overall (especially administration and battles). Personally, I think the biggest advantage of the Three Kingdoms series is the detailed…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing RTK since the first one on NES and since them have preferred the versions where you play the ruler. RTK11 had been my favorite up until my PS2 disk was damaged. I considered buying a replacement but decided to try RTK14 since it was a similar game. Initially my impression was not great, it seemed as though there was very little to do each turn. They even took away the basic functions like training and recruiting. Although as I continued playing a decided this was a good…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Long time fan of this series here. I find that very objectionable to have tons of unnecessary DLC content. By unnecessary, I mean the edit function and the like. Literally I have to paid just to unlock those functions which are there just to get a few extra bucks from player.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not recommended. You no longer have the full version of this game as the full version is locked behind a new pay wall and is region locked and unavailable to English markets.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To be honest, the game is a good game, especially for those who're interested in the history of the East Asia empires. However, the price of this game is way too terrible, even the discount can't fix this problem. I simply don't want to support the way they decided the price of this game, so I made my decision and asked for a refund. Of course, I won't recommend this game since a gaming company who simply wants to exploit the players and refuses to give better service of optimization(you can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely disappointed with Koei Tecmo for making the ROTK 14 Complete Edition upgrade unavailable for purchase in North America. Long-time players have already spent a significant amount of money supporting this game, and region-locking the final upgrade is a slap in the face. Even without official English language support, you should make it available for purchase for those of us willing to play it as-is. Please lift the region lock and let your fans actually buy and play the content.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like officer play, this is not the game for you. This is more in the vein of RTK 9 and 11. (I think 9 was the one where you controlled the rulers with castles all over the map... it has been a long time.) You of course will need the DLC to make full use of the game, Koei Tecmo being Koei Tecmo, however it is a solid game overall. The turns are broken down into 10 days per cycle which I think was a bit of a mistake. They should have followed the awakening bit where you can manually…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played countless hours of RTK2,3,4, etc as a kid growing up. Almost every entry has some abuseable cheese that makes the game trivial. I think this is the first one in this series that really made me appreciate the finer points of the stories and strategies of this period. And the main mechanic that accomplishes this is: the concept of a supply line. All units on the field have to be connected by a continuous path of hexes in your color to your city. If ever that line is broken, by a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately I could not get the game to stop crashing, and could not even get into an actual battle or load up the tutorial. Tried many different things, seems a possible fix is to install graphics drivers from 2020. I'm not wiling to do that to play a 5 year old game. Put in for a Refund.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay Mechanics: 7/10 Narrative: 6/10 Graphics: 6/10 Sound and Music: 7/10 Replayability: 7/10 Innovation: 6/10 Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV is a solid, if somewhat stripped-down, return to form for the long-running grand strategy series. While it may not be the deepest or most beloved entry, it introduces some fresh ideas and delivers a satisfying “paint the map” experience for fans of large-scale conquest. Gameplay mechanics are simplified compared to earlier titles, with a greater…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finally got this during the KOEI sale, was surprised how much I enjoyed it after seeing the mixed reviews. It may just be my favorite ROTK ever as someone who's previous favorites are IX and XI. Pros: -Grid system means every piece of land is important -Combat is addictive, I personally love giving orders and watching it play out (not for everyone I understand) -Domestics is simple, but still has depth if you want to min max -Ability to randomize force placement, increasing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a GAME review, not a company review. This game isn't bad but it could be better. Pros first -Historic events. It has decent historic events to it that most of us enjoy, but are rather difficult to get all of them trying to do a long play through and is still missing a good chunk of historic events. -Character customization is pretty great. Customize your backstory, your skills, (if you pay) you can make items for your characters to give you an edge. Ontop of that you can even make…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been playing this series since NES. I understand the criticism, but actually enjoy the return to the simplification that reflects that era of the game. I am also looking into Nobinaga's Ambition as well because of how much I have enjoyed this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this after buying 8 remake... I needed my rotk XI fix, this is it. the battle are different, people described it best as chess. you cant react to what your enemy did. you can only react to what your enemy is going to do, because its a blend of turned base and real time (you decide by turns but the whole game moves at the same time), you have the predict where and what your opponent is going to do and react to that. sometime you get it right and sometime you get it wrong. its addicting.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didnt feel anyone was being particularly romantic towards me so :C
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While its still a good game, this version isnt the best anymore. Koei refuses to release the new complete edition with good improvements in the west and region locked it too.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have well over 200 total hours when taking into account my console play time. I have a lot to say: First, the positives: 1. The strategy, at it's core, is very solid. The turn-based element works fantastically, and the balancing between officers is unmatched. While some officers (Namely Cao Cao, Lu Bu, Zhang Fei, and others) are substancially better than the average officer, that should be expected. Koei has never shied away from giving the best officers overpowered stats and abilities.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand, as a Three Kingdoms game. You can't control any of the soldiers or generals in a battle. You can't control the details of all the others. The only thing you see is the change in numbers. Is this a game from 1980s or something?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I kinda like this better than ROTK XI. The biggest difference that is fun for me is the buff stacking concept. For example you use officer that can create a Ring formation and has "Defense" trait. Then bring another officer with "Steel General" to accompany him and make a camp. That single officer can reach 2000-2600 defense and will only take 1 damage per tick making him unbeatable even with low counter damage. ROTK XI is more a strong individual unit with 3 officers skill combined, while…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I literally do not understand how this has any good recommendations. It's barely an ROTK game that is completely absent of any tactical combat.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its bad enough they cant be bothered to localised to english, worse still they region locked the complete edition so even if you can speak japanese/chinese you stil cant play it. Scummy move from a scummy company. After 30 years, i will finally quit supporting this clown company. Buyer beware, terrible support, total disregard to customer, especially not recommended if you are in regions other than china or japan.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not recommended - total disregard of players outside Asia, when the new DLC is not available for no reason.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After seeing the Edition Comparison for the latest DLC, I have no choice but to give negative.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BEWARE!!!! Westerners!!!!! Do NOT buy this game New expansion Complete edition is not for Westerners to buy. Region Locking Garbage game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing so many version of rtk, i thought this might be fun so bought it. I tried for 7hrs on and off and i doze off serveral time clicking repeated domestic and march moves and then the play button letting the ai runs. some time u forget to do the repeated clicks and press play button. maybe just not for me, the clicks interface and menu also not so smooth like very tiring for the arm. i still prefer the rtk8 remake which is more close to the orgins of where i started from rtk2 and rtk1…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OVERALL: Very Good 8/10, maybe higher if you are into 14th century Chinese literature. While it is a masterpiece addition to the series, it has kind of a steep learning curve (the tutorial is not very helpful) but if you can endure the temporary frustration of learning by attrition, you will get the hang of it, and then there is a lot of very deep strategy to analyze and decide upon and enjoy in doing so. Additionally, the tactical warfare is very rewarding when applied correctly often…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great historical strategy game, great illustrations and fun game play, although like many strategy games very time consuming
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All of the charm of previous gen titles are lost here. I used to be immersed in the world now this is just menu screen after menu screen. Not a buy even at a discount.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIV is the latest in the long line of games centered on China’s historical period after the fall of the Han Dynasty called the Three Kingdoms Period. It is a turn-based strategy game where the player develops cities and fights in battles until they have conquered all of ancient China. As a fan that has enjoyed this franchise for decades, this game fails to live up to its predecessor’s reputation and I wouldn’t recommend anyone buy it. I’m going to start by saying…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have loved Romance of the Three Kingdoms through thick and thin, through every iteration, every era, and then came 14, which tested that love in ways I was not prepared for. The developers clearly had a deadline and a prayer, and delivered accordingly. A heartfelt plea to Koei Tecmo: please, I am begging you, do not make 15. Let the Three Kingdoms rest with dignity.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like ruler based ROTK games then Koei did a good job here overall. The most important parts like AI aggressiveness, battles and UI are all in a good state. The game suffers from a high degree of balance issues mid-late game as you'll have so much gold you wont know what to do with it as well as some trivialization of diplomacy and difficulty by forcing compliance with other AI factions via that surplus. I can see where some players may not enjoy the direction battles went due to the lack…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A phenomenal strategy game that more than lives up to the rich legacy of Koei's series of grand strategy wargames. ROTKXIV demands a significant amount of management skills (both on the macro and micro level) and thus may not be best suited for newcomers to the genre. However, once the player is able to grasp a hold of its many complex systems, it can provide one of the most satisfying and addicting strategic gameplay in the market.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game, but its almost nothing like I expected. Compared to its predecessors, it is much simpler and streamlined and feels much more like playing a physical board game with narrative vignettes than a 4k war strategy game. Instead of splitting into the dichotomy of kingdom building and war strategy, RTK14 splits the difference. There are no tactical battles. The big map is the tactical map. There is no build up and then strike, you are constantly at war and constantly defending…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played other versions The 11th (XI) was the best but IVX or 14th is good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't be scared off by some of the reviews you see. This game is fantastic for any casual strategy lover. The game by default saves progress so if you need to go back a few months you can. Once you get more advanced you can start worrying about Brotherhoods and marriages.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this game. Big dynasty warriors fan so being able to create your own force and conquer the land is great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot to like here but the endgame is a slog. It could use some settings to auto-fill vacant administrator and city roles with nearby jobless officers. Also while limiting supplies and troops per city is important to the game design, I don't think it would hurt anything if gold was a universal resource you could spend from anywhere.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →new dlc has no english version
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an entertaining game. The price tag is bs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome fun. I'm playing it on steam deck and PC, performs great on both, although steam deck I lock it to 30fps, but being a strategy game it doesn't bother me at all. I've had zero issues on both platforms, no bugs or anything what so ever. Heaps of people giving it negative reviews for such stupid reasons. Most of the negative reviews are people whining about either the price, or that it's not like rotk 13 and doesn't have rpg elements, bugs they are experiencing, or complaining about…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very finely crafted game, this is my first foray into Romance, while i have always played strategy games like Heroes of Might and Magic, Total War etc, this is a whole different universe. Very well done.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you played RTK 11 before. This is not as good as RTK 11. Otherwise this game is good. Very easy to get into the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish there was a middle thumb for a meh rating. If you want to play a better version of this game go buy the remake of number 8. Somehow the quality of life in a remade game is better than this, it also doesn't have the awful DLC problem this game seems to have.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are a real fan and you liked 11 over the repititve rpg then this will be a peek game for you. It is very deep mechanically and will reward thinking on hard scenarios. Playing a known faction is very manageable but someone like kong rong or zhang lu is where this will be a rewarding challenge. A definite buy for any real strat player ignore the reviews of people who dont even understand how rottk games release or work mechanically. THE BAD - Koei overpriced game with dlc of music/char…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just not quite as fun as the rest of the series but I got hope for the remake of 8 and eventually 15 when they start work on that.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, I like the supply path mechanism.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ROMANCE OF THE THREE KINGDOMS XIV is a large-scale historical strategy game centered on territorial expansion, officer management, military planning, diplomacy, and the long struggle to unify ancient China. Developed and published by KOEI TECMO GAMES CO., LTD., it continues the long-running strategy series with an approach that places the campaign map at the heart of nearly everything the player does. Rather than simply moving armies between major settlements, the game encourages gradual…

unlabelledView post →Probably my favorite Three Kingdoms strategy games (Including Total War), It has a great amount of detail to the map and the city building is simple yet decent. Be sure to use Suggestions by your generals to boost the city production. This is awesome would be even better without two season passes with TWO campaign setting PAGES locked behind a paywall. Seriously, who thought of that? Even the difficulty settings above hard are paid. Just be sure to be willing to get the top edition or spend a…
