If you wanted to like the series but was turned off by all the micromanagement and complexity of the battles? You'll probably love it. For the most part, it's Nobunaga's Ambition as you expect; building your provinces to provide exactly what you need to support your economy and troops, seeking out powerful ronin to lead your armies, managing alliances and…

Most of the series fundamentals are still here in recognizable forms, but everything must operate within the new emphases on automation and restricting agency, which I feel severely holds back the game. For…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very dumbed down variant of Nobunaga's Ambition Sphere of Influence... It may be better for newer players but it has no depth outside of you basically assigning roles to certain officers and then the AI does what it wants.. The strategy and city planing and a LOT of other features are gone in this one. If you are thinking on buying this with Sphere of Influence in mind BE VERY SURE you make sure it is what you want. Personally I just went back and bought Sphere of Influence instead…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you came here looking for a worthy successor of the masterpiece that was Sphere of Influence, sadly you will be disappointed. While the game introduces some great QoL improvements over its prequels, it suffers from major issues: The first being the terrible UI where everything is cluttered together to the point where it is difficult to even click the road nodes where your army should march. Certain aspects in the UI are oversized, others are just simply in the way, colour coding and chat…

But no, you get punished for supporting them earlier. They want you to pay $1,090. 3 times more than the later buyers. What's the logic in this except greed? Lesson learned. never buy this series until DLC is out. Very disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Note i'm a lover of the period and the strategy genre but also a complete newcomer to this series. I also have Sphere of Influence but I ended up drawn to this one and just got sucked in before truly cutting my teeth into Sphere of Influence. Both are good. But I will NOT make a direct comparison between both. Overal reviews indicate both are excellent with different strengths and weaknesses. From what I read I am SLIGHTLY more inclined to suggest this one of SoI on basis of interface…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game should be renamed as Nobunaga's Ambition: Half-baked. I have fun with it, but there are too many things that are weird imo. I reserve my opinions after the Pros/cons list, because there might be spoilers. Anyway, I will still give it a 7/10. Pros: - It is friendly for minor daimyos. You can recruit outside your settlements from suggestions of your officers. You can stack up your family members to make a better battle squad. - Stacking traits is fun - Battle is fun until it isn't.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my first Nobunaga's Ambition game. I haven't tried any ROTK games yet either. It is absolutely awesome. If you are new to grand strategy, there may be a bit of a learning curve, but as a CK3 player I understood most concepts quickly. The UI can be a bit confusing; it was designed for controllers, making it somewhat cumbersome to navigate, and in some menus it fails to show enough relevant information. Fundamentally, this is a map game with RPG and realtime strategy components. You…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a pretty damn good entry in the Nobunaga's Ambition franchise, and a worthy sequel to SoI which is generally considered the golden standard. The new battle system, albeit on rails and less freeform than previous entries, feels pretty fun and can get pretty hectic when doing large battles. Sieges are pretty great too, though once ya figure out the strategy for doing them they can feel pretty easy. The domain management system has been streamlined and revolves a lot more around your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nintendo should get Koei Tecmo to develop another Fire Emblem game but have it be the Nobunaga's Ambition guys for Baby's First Grand Strategy. I would buy it multiple times
unlabelledView post →Well... that's kind of odd: Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV SNES ROM has the Mouse Flag enabled...? It doesn't actually use it. Yet Nobunaga's Ambition, the one game of the bunch that supports the mouse actually doesn't?
unlabelledView post →I recommend this game because: Pros: + good music + don't have to micro manage every land + not too hard but complex to learn + performance smooth like butter +++ great art, specially women Cons: - dumb UI, hard to see or click on map because too many names - still don't clear when we can control battle - can only ask 1 ally to help with your war - still don't know how event trigger - so far not much female to capture

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starting up Pokemon Conquest tonight for DS Destruction! An interesting crossover between Pokemon and Nobunaga's Ambition, a Koei Tecmo tactics RPG series that has seen mostly Japan-only releases. I've played this game before, and it rules. Looking forward to this revisit! twitch.tv/Mr_Shasta

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is very bittersweet. While the whole idea is great and i like the various mechanics it offers, it's very difficult and annoying to get anything war related done. It's really annoying to go on the offensive because more often than not the game will give you several reasons to abandon siege and go back to your land, may that be enemy reinforcements, lack of resources or another clan taking advantage of you being away to attack you. Even when you have an ally to cover one of the sides…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, ruined by Siege Battles. Most notably: They are not sieges, they are assaults. You cannot actually siege a defensive castle an opponent fortifies, you are forced to throw your troops at them. If you could actually siege them down, slowly hammering away at their defenses and starving them? It would be fun. But because it forces you to go on the offensive against a number of powerful fortifications that rapidly lower both your troop count and morale bar, it just turns into a 'reload…

I enjoyed the game a lot with all of the DLC and updates included, but the lack of any upgrade path from Switch to Switch 2 sucks. My review: www.nintendo-insider.com/nobunagas-am...
unlabelledView post →Awakening is a very different game from Sphere of Influence, and in my opinion, better. This was not the case when the game came out, at first there was no Japanese voice acting, sieges weren't very fun, council and politics were unrefined, historical events were frustrating, and the simulations were a bit buggy. As of 1.1.5 the game has been improved significantly Already it was a nice successor to the gold standard, now I truly believe Awakening is an improvement to Sphere of Influence for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best entry in the series since Sphere of Influence. In general, it's 1 step forward, 1 step backwards so there might be differences in opinion on whether it improves upon Sphere of Influence. For instance, you have less direct control of your provinces (ie you aren't able to ask them to defend you if you're under attack or attack a specific territory unless the overseer suggests it in your march options) There's less opportunity to pincer units on the regular map but the siege and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don: I want to code a video game, but I can't decide what it should be. Leo: It should require strategy. Raph: But also fighting! Don: Sure, it could be a strategy war game, like Nobunaga's Ambition. But we could set it in New York. Mikey: Dude! Cowabunga's Ambition!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As others have mentioned, Awakening is different from Sphere of Influence. Sphere of Influence is a much more micro-managey, razor-brained type strategy game where you can easily get lost in all of the different decisions and ways to 4X yourself. SoI is an excellent game for strategy-heads. Awakening takes a big step back and looks at the entire concept of the Nobunaga series and changes some things. Whether or not its for you depends! - Overland travel is now done via roads, and units can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They enabled SNES Mouse flag in Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV Wall of Fire... that game doesn't support the mouse, like, at all. Nobunaga's Ambition (not Lord of Darkness) does support it though, but it's not even in the metadata for it for some reason, even if it would be unusable.
unlabelledView post →Very disappointed the game doesn't provide the option to select JP voices, the EN voices are unbearably bad. Will revise this review if it gets added. EDIT: Koei confirmed it's on the way via a future update, revision soon^(TM).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was watching @wolfborg.bsky.social play Nobunaga's Ambition for the SNES, and the box art for it went kinda hard? So I got an idea... and ended up making some fan art! Meet... Borgunaga, destined unifier of 16th century Japan. #drawBorg ❄️☕ | #myart
unlabelledView post →This practice exist even today. Nobunaga's Ambition sells to me and like the 30 people who care about that series, so the game rarely drops from it's $90 price tag for the full version. Compared to Nioh 2 that will sell millions, so they can drop the price down to $25 regularly.
unlabelledView post →Fantastic simulation/strategy game. Really addictive building your clan up and making moves, with really nice text 'cutscenes' with great art explaining the history and lore as it happens in realtime during your game. Fun stuff.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Writing this review after 20 hours in. I was initially pretty nervous about this game but in the end I was very satisfied! Coming in as a huge fan of Sphere of Influence, I know my own thoughts on Awakening were going to be a bit skewed, but overall Awakening does feel like a nice successor to Sphere of Influence in many ways, although I still can't say if I personally like it better than SOI or not. Awakening does have some issues and can feel a bit clunky at times, yet it does enough good to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This seems cool and reminded me that I REALLY need to get around to trying "Liberty or Death" the game that is basically Nobunaga's Ambition but American Revolution.
unlabelledView post →Even on Very Easy, this game is a significant slog, with enemy factions always somehow being able to grow their forces so much faster than yours despite having inferior officers, as if there are no limits on what activities they can perform compared to you, who will often be out of gold or out of labor. I wanted to like it, but I just don't enjoy it as much as I enjoy the games in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms series.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nobunaga's Ambition is a videogames series that always piqued my interest but never tried it till now. The game is by no means perfect, the UI is confusing, the tutorial poor and some of the mechanics poorly explained. But beyond that there is a deep game with great atmosphere, rich in history and full of character. I love all the historical events the game has and how unique the important officers feel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent strategy game. Exceeded my expectations and best title in the series yet. Nice graphics. Excellent music soundtrack. Awesome officer artwork. Clean accessible UI. Addictive gameplay. Runs smooth on my PC. Controls feel awesome with mouse and keyboard. I enjoy the English voice acting. Japanese audio was added by the devs which is nice. NA Awakening is a love letter to the fans. Thank you Koei for releasing the PUK version to the West. Job well done!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's also really, fantastically bleak that Capcom treat basic maintenance on their game as something to be timetabled and put on a roadmap. man this company sucks, at least there's a new Nobunaga's Ambition to soothe the soul.

unlabelledView post →Nobunaga's Ambition: Awakening is another solid game in the Nobunaga's Ambition series and this one would be up there with NA: Sphere of Influence for me in terms of fun. The major difference with this one is that the game takes on some aspects from Crusader Kings in that you have lots of land and you hand it out to different ranked samurai who level up their positions in your court by working initially as attendants to land in your capital then if you deem them worthy you allow them smaller…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A complex game that ultimately turns out to be shallow. You have to learn a lot to be able to manage your realm. As soon as you are proficient enough, though, it quickly becomes clear that the core gameplay is nothing more than waiting and watching different numbers go up and down. Meanwhile, the game is so unbalanced that even the developers seem to have given up on it. They just give you a lot of difficulty settings and outright cheats, which you don't even have to activate through obscure…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was a pleasant surprise. It reminds me of the old SSI games. If you played those back in the day then this is a must have. It has many layers and each takes a bit of learning to understand. Once you grasp what's going on then and how things work then it's much easier to play. Perhaps too much so, as I wish it were a little more depth at least there is a robust difficulty option. (There is still a hill to climb learning the game.) Ultimately what the game provides is hours of fun and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Koei just confirmed we will get Japanese voices! The English voice over was ok, but is not something i want to play this game with. So far the best entry in the series! You really can't compare it to something like Total War, even tho it has some similarities. The NA series existed way longer. Sadly it's still very underrated and niche for how good it really is.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arguably the best Nobunaga's Ambition game. The "Grand Battle" update also solved the endgame slog that these games usually have.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have played every Nobunaga's ambition game released in the U.S. I have enjoyed this game and it was much better than Taishi, which I believe was one of the worst in the series. I actually enjoy the realistic nature of assigning fiefs that the samurai retainers actually manage independently with or without guidance. If the strategy management system could ever be combined with battles similar to those in the total war games then Koei would really be on to something and would probably break…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda meh, Sphere of Influence is more fun than this product.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad logic, the castle battle is totally non-sense, can't even use 10 times troop to conquer a small castle with little troop.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sieges ruin the game. If they made it so sieges count as assaulting/storming a castle and I don't have to fight them, things would be different. defenders have a crazy advantage, you lose most of the time even if you outnumber the enemy 5 to 1, structures take a long time to die, units stamina is a stupid feature in this kind of game, this isn't total war, and in sieges ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ towers melt your armies and the ai spams towers in groups so have fun trying to take down 1 tower when it and another…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Total step back in the series, i cant understand the bosses running koei tecmo at all. despite every previous one of these games released in the west having the original japanese dub they stuffed up with this one by having the games settings only allow for english only or japanese only. THERE IS LITERALLY NO WAY TO HAVE THE JAPANESE VOICES WITH THE GAMES TEXT IN ENGLISH. This leaves anyone playing the game in english forced to suffer the utterly terrible voice acting with what appears to be 5…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PK Mode allows castle to be set as supply depots, that way, you minimise the need to move your base of operations, instead, just build a steady chain of supply depots to the distance enemy castle and bullet train your way through. Very well thought of for this PK mode

"Koei Tecmo is a joke. Your business practices look poorer than those in underdeveloped African nations.
