The graphics are simple, but actually fairly nice given the cost. The controls are a mess. I do not have a gamepad, but a mouse and keyboard suck. You map specific keys to use in the main menu, and then you can swap around between those for your ship. Stranger than it sounds. Some key mapping that works for a ship with many manuever abilities may not work for the kind with 6…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat mix of space shooter and RPG features. The story is a bit weak but what really sells this one is just how much you can customize the ships. The stages look nice though a bit simple some times. Mechanically sound and tight controls. Some parts of the UI seem kind of basic but looks nice otherwise. It starts off kind of slow but if you wait a little while eventually you will have a ridiculous space death machine that completely stomps the enemy. Honestly it's more fun coming up with crazy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages is a game that I recommend because: - it has a good price - it is a good indie - it has multiplayer mode - it has controller support - it has a good soundtrack - the graphics are acceptable - it is relaxing - it is decent enough for its price - it has trading cards Enjoy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't usually like this type of gameplay, but with the ridiculously low price and awesome reviews I gave the demo a try...and fell in love with the writing. It's so humorous and the world it builds is great. I might be running into walls and doing a terrible job at piloting, but I'm enjoying every minute of it.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was recommended to me and I decided to give it a shot despite it seeming like a bit of a bland upgrade to the old school strafe-and-shoot asteroid game genre. My inital prognosis of this game couldn't have been more off the mark. First of all, I don't review many games, but this one really had the perfect trifecta of what any game (regardless of genre) needs in my opinion. The story alone would've earned a recommendation from me (you actually get a novel version of the story with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages is a top-down space shooter where you can choose from a rather diverse set of ships, each offering different types of nodes to be filled with weapons, combat parameter enchantments, skills and various other goodies. There are multiplayer elements for those inclined to test their mettle against others and a full-fledged campaign. Make no mistake, I definitely enjoyed the game, and I do think that it is worthy of a recommendation. However, there are several…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like sci-fi, this game is an absolute gem. The attention to detail is maniacal, the storytelling and humour are so great that can be compared to legendary games like Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle. The gameplay and the progression are perfect, those guys (and the gal) are game design masters; I'm at 18 hours and the quality is constant, there is so much passion here that I'm speechless, no wonder it took 5 years of development. I got this game in 2014, played 2 hours and then…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The writing? Awesome, fun, amazing! The gameplay? Literally, you fight against the controls every step of the way. The enemies aren't terribly impressive - the continous boss battle of "You vs the Controls" kills the enjoyment of the game. For me, at least. I tried mouse, I tried keyboard, I tried gamepad - no joy on any of them. Excellent writing, but ♥♥♥♥♥ controls. Edit: If you read the forums, there's apperantly some editing in the options you can do to "ease up" this difficulty - but I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You may not be wowwed by state of the art graphics or a bazillion hours of gameplay content. But they really put their heart in soul into this one and it shows across the board. There is far more then a satisfying amount of content here. The opening stages alone if you are not a mega fast speed runner may take you 10+ hours alone. That is before it opens up beautifully. Please if you are reticent to take risks on games, this is one you wont be sorry for pulling the trigger on.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, what can I say about this game. The perfect analogy is that, I felt this game , as Collegue homework... that nobody want to do, or even know how to do, then, each member got frustrated. Suddenly, one of the group got the great idea that any member must work individually, and then will talk how to merge it properly. Several time later... When the last line was near, everyone pick the "thing" they did on their own, and in the end they just merged it, no matter what. Like... f*ck the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages is a tremendous amount of content and playtime for the price of the game. If anything there is too much content here. As with most games, your first missions are in essence tutorial missions teaching you the different ship types; their strengths, weaknesses, and learning which playstyles you prefer... but there are so many different ship types and mechanics to learn that it can feel like you will never get past these "tutorial" missions. My only advice is to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I knew this was my type of game when I had to "sell" Dvorak keyboards to a school and ended up in a Deathmatch with the PTA forcing them to make peace with their clerically-handicapped children. (This was after I enshrined a flail without the help of the 'Artisanal Space-Flail Shrine Builders'). Top-down space shooter with lots of depth and an epic soundtrack, even at full price of a large sum of £3.99 it's worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An amazing game. They really undersold it on the steam page, when I was looking at it there I was expecting another standard arcade-style shooting game. But the story is beautiful, the customization is a huge feature (They say "dozens of ships", there are 57), and multiplayer could be amazing if more people were active. Deserves much more popularity. If you like sci-fi stories, exciting combat, or even just the customization, this is a good game for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the most purely enjoyable games in my collection. If I'm having problems concentrating on my work, or if my manuscript has me stuck (I'm a writer), I can close the window and start Ring Runner. It's a lovely little top-down space shooter/RPG that only wants you to *think* it's small. Spend hours - or just a minute - customizing the build of your ships to take on the game's challenges in your own unique way. Your choices are limitless. I admit that the hangar screen looks complex…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can believe that, somewhere deep down, Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages contains a fun and enjoyable experience but I'm unable to adapt and enjoy any of its control schemes, neither do I want to struggle against its slippery mouse cursor issues when browsing the interface.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent variety of ships and missions. Interesting plot. Simple but funny humor. An all-around winner!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fun game but it is extremely reliant on M$ crotchware (XNA, directsound, etc) and won't run on WINE at the moment due to the official download locations of most Win7 packages all being moved
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ring Runner is a 2D spacewar/asteroids game with an extensive story campaign. The game uses some 3D graphics but displays "top down". You can upgrade your ship and so on, so there's a fairly deep progression system. The game also features co-op and PvP modes as an added bonus. I have to say the effort that went into the story and game mechanics is exemplary. For the amount of effort that went in, the price isn't too bad. The game features full graphics and control customisability,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit of a hidden gem of a game. I've played this a long time ago, and couldn't get to the end since it has so many cool missions but I never get to the end, which is something I have to rectify one day. It ticks a lot of boxes, has some co-op and multiplayer, ship customization and lots of really weird builds and abilities that just make the game a lot of fun. Terminating your enemies using weird or overpowered combinations is just awesome. The non-traditional themes and unfamiliar…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've had this game for years and I really regret not giving it a shot all this time. You awaken on a space station with no memory, a chunk of your brain missing, and in its place, a snarky Neuro-HUD with a hankering for candy. You steal a small ship and escape just before the station explodes. You barely escape your pursuers and start your journey to figure out just who you are...in an antique ship you found floating in a space landfill. Despite the way it looks in screenshots, Ring…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so much fun!! I was hoping for a game I could play casually, and was pleasantly surprised to find that this could be played either casually or more seriously, and best of all had a hugely entertaining story. The ship customization can be as complicated or as simple as you want it to be, and the main story line walks you through everything you need to know. I would highly recommend playing it with a controller rather than a mouse and keyboard...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not quite for me; the controls are very floaty and not a fan of the humour. The build-your-ship components are also no very clearly explained. I just don't have the patience to work out how it all fits together.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game might not look like much... But it's bloody amazing! There's amazing humor, writing, and gameplay that will Entertain you for Days!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game went under the radar for the most part. If any indie game deserves the title of hidden gem it is this one. There are already a lot of reviews that go in depth with the features and aspects of this game so for this one I am going to forgo my usual analysis. I just wanted the opprotunity to let any prospective buyers to know that this game is worth far in excess of the asking price. YOU WILL get your enjoyment out of this game if you enjoy any of what this mash up of genre's have to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Read more of my short essays on video games at [url=strategineer.com] strategineer.com Nowadays, I lower my expectations as low as they can possibly go before playing a new video game. Maybe I've been disappointed one too many times or maybe I'm a pessimist to the core. Either way, because I set the bar so low, when an amazing game falls into my lap, it gives me energy. In the short time I've spent with it, I've fallen in love with Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages. It's a real tragedy that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite of all indie games. When I bought it, I actually thought it was 3d, but not willing to let my money go to waste, I continued playing. Years later, I am still "all smiles". I will give this game a detailed review. If you want a short one, skip to the concluding paragraph. I will first explain the basic concept of the game. It is a space shooter, a game in which you control a ship and fly combat missions. It also has very good rpg elements. As said before, it is 2d, think space…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this. But between the horrid steering controls, the camera zooming in way too close way too often at inoportune times, it's just a messy chore to play. And the soundtrack is pretty grating too. If you're in the mood to play a retro style game you might love it. Just not for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game feels like a mixture of asteroids and geometry wars
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is more than I hoped for The game is the best and most frenetic 2D space fighting game I have ever played. The magic that brings out this quality is the complex environment and customizability that drives these fights. There are a lot of Hulls and tons of Accessories and Weapons you can equip your spaceship with. Every hull has its slots and its CLASS. The game gains a new meaning with these classes. You can build a Warrior ship, or an Archer ship, or a Mage ship, or a Rouge ship, or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice Game - its fun. Nice Soundtrack. The story however is very, very good... and long too. Let's go rainbow!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →These are the worst controls I've ever seen for this type of game. For example, you turn your ship with 'A' and 'D' instead of your mouse, which feels absolutely terrible. Moving your mouse around does nothing. I plugged in an Xbox 360 controller and the controls are just as bad (and you can't even change them on a controller from what I can tell).. The menu controls are sooooooo terrible. It's hard to explain, but it just feels so bad. Also, borderless fullscreen mode didn't even do anything…

This is the first I've played this in well over 9 years, but I'm having quite a bit of fun with it this time around. #ringrunner #videogames #indiegames #spacesim #gameplay

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome. How is it $5?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent, underrated game. Great story and gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a little hard to understand as a newcomer. The incredible variety of ship combinations is staggering, in both a positive and negative way. Customization is awesome and normally I am a huge advocate of having many options. Yet somehow, the interface of this game felt very confusing. The campaign does try to ease you into some of the different ship types, but it just felt overwhelming anyways. The soundtrack is awesome, so i have to give these guys props there! I can't say the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: +++Amazing dialogue writing ++Gripping story with great twists I didn't see coming ++++Amazingly versatile ship designer with a bajillion possibilities +++Great balance despite the above ++Lovely music +++Will run on almost any PC without slowing down Cons: -Tutorial sequence is long (necessarily so, and it's very enjoyable thanks to the fact that it's part of the story, but if you're looking to play multiplayer games it may take you an hour or so to unlock that functionality)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a fantastic gem of a game. It's all been said in many of the other positive reviews, but I think it's one of the best couple of dollars I've spent on steam. The real draw for me is the depth in the ship customization. It reminds me of EVE online in that way, except obviously it's a little more stripped down without the MMO elements, and the only thing you're really building your ships for is combat. The combat itself is very fun, with a huge range of difficulty. I'm actually pretty…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is amazing. The cost of this game vs the gameplay, the story, the customization and everything else does not make any sense at all. There are AAA titles that could take a few chapters out of the book the dev's here wrote. I run games on my desktop and laptop. My laptop is an old asus republic of gamers laptop, so old i dont remember the specs or can be bothered to look them up. Plus it has been through hell and some parts changed out. I digress, this game runs real smooth on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best space shooters I've played in a good long time. Highly recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Criminally underrated gem of a game! So much depth and customization of ships, a huge campaign with plenty of variety, great multiplayer modes, and an absolute steal of a price for how much content there is. Obviously a labor of love. Really sad this game never got the attention it deserved, and I eagerly await what the devs will do for their next project.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have not played it much, but during the time I playde it, I enjoyed it quite a bit, I'll see if I'll complete this game some day.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really amazing hidden gem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game feels like shareware, that I got from a computer show on an impossibly big 5.25" floppy (yall remember those days, kids?). It's a top-down space shooter, a lot like Subspace, and even more like, uh, Solar Winds: The Escape (Y'ALL REMEMBER THAT HOT BANGER, FELLOW TEENAGERS). Anyway, if you like this kind of space action, you'll probably like this game. Everything about this game feels hand-made by people who experienced some early video games, and in addition to BEING a tribute to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Criminally under appreciated. Funny characters, detailed ship design, clear and beautiful graphics, catchy music, research trees, unique set pieces, just a whole lot of varied high quality content. Whole lot of fun too! Can be a bit slow to get started, and ship design can be daunting, but it's so rewarding if you stick with it. Don't be afraid to turn the difficulty down if you get stuck at a particularly diffcult boss (especially if you're Captain Hardcore like me and always start in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a space fan, I always appreciate when games make you deal with inertia, even if it makes gamplay harder. That's all I can say for this one though. A few missions in and I was utterly bored. Maybe it's only because I was early, but there were no interesting weapons or abilities. Combat was dull, there was nothing make environments look good, and the dialogue was annoying. Space Pirates and Zombies was a lot more fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a very enjoyable game, if the controls were improved a little bit more and overall gameplay then it would be good, storyline is a little annoying and requires to much reading
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is good has a great concept.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, I've played this for a few hours now, and it's probably worth the dollar I paid for it, but a lot of the design decisions that went into this game are, frankly, infuriating. For example: Combat is constantly being interrupted with inane dialog. It isn't even good dialog. Seriously, Devorak keyboard salesmen? There are *literally* THREE HOURS of tutorial missions before you get to customize your ship. The research system is mind-numbingly stupid. You can't buy new equipment, even if…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is an absolute masterpiece. Take the most basic concept of a 2D arcade-style space shooter, and then make it perfect in every single way, and you get Ring Runner: Flight of the Sages, plus the lore is good enough to be a book or series. You can tell that a lot of love, passion, talent, and intelligence went into this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An innovative space shooter with engaging gameplay, diverse ship customizations, and a captivating sci-fi story that keeps players exploring and battling through endless adventures.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game many years ago, but forgot to review it back then. I'm replaying the game, and having tons of fun again. The game has nice graphics, excellent music, an interesting story, and great dialog. There are many ships and they play quite differently. Lots of possible gear and setups. Still holds up well, and for that price, you can't go wrong.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very impressed by this hidden gem. Fun and surprisingly deep space combat combined with a lot of content. This game deserves more attention.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A tightly-polished singleplayer MOBA with five distinct classes: Fighter (traditional space shooter), Caster (huge AoE's), Grappler (melee combat), Arsenal (turrets and artillery), and Rogue (stealth and decoys). An amusing story and a huge amount of build diversity cap off a criminally ignored package.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best if not the best 2d space Action-RPGs.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to enjoy this game - and to an extent, I did. But reading the reviews and description I was expecting something stunning and surprising - not, in fact, a fairly straightforward space shooter that didn't do much to wow me in the 10 hours I played it. Perhaps I was doing something wrong, perhaps the good part was yet to come... but honestly after that amount of time waiting for something a bit more open ended I gave up.
