Developer Reverie World Studios

The year is 1510. As wars rage across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, it is the age of gunpowder and mercenaries - that changed the course of history. You can do it as well, going from a leader of men to the ruler of an empire in this unique mix of RTS and grand strategy. From the Steam store page

What people are saying

Mixed reception: praised for ambition but criticised for reusing assets and bugs.

Many players enjoy the game's mix of RTS, city-building, and grand strategy, calling it a fun throwback to older titles. Some highlight its historical accuracy and engaging gameplay, with one fan noting it 'brought a smile to my face'. [1][15][13]

However, a significant number of critics allege the developer reuses assets from previous Kingdom Wars games and fails to fix longstanding bugs. Some call it 'copy and paste' and accuse the company of abandoning games after release, with one stating 'this is fake early access, pump and dump TRASH!' [27][28][30][31]

Dont buy anything from this company, they just copy and paste the same games with a few tweaks and a lot of promises and they have NEVER completed a game before wanting to sell you the next one, this type of company makes you understand the lay offs on the tech industry and so many going out of business. JUST LOOK AT HIS RECORD! He makes the same game over and over, HE WILL make another game and release it at fullprice in 2025, its just what he does.

This game series, from Medieval II to now, has experienced a Renaissance, but they haven't made many improvements. They haven't even done proper research or restoration of basic Renaissance-era technology or armor. They've only added two so-called iconic elements to represent the Renaissance: firearms and cannons. As for other unit types, there is no visual change at all. Renaissance-era soldiers are still wearing mid-medieval armor and clothing. The AI is stiff, and there doesn't seem to be…

Another copy and paste Kingdom Wars game. Heavily reuse art assets of previous game. Although the game claimed to be set in 1510, all melee infantry and cavalry units, along with characters, have 3d models look like in 13th century, they all wear mid-medieval era chain mails and nasal helmets/great helmets. This is a clear evidence of reusing assets from past games. And "early renaissance army are medieval-ish" is not an excuse, people in 1510 just don't look like this. Yes, compare to…

When is the "2000 retro look" excuse going to stop being used? i very much like the idea of your games and that's why i keep buying them, but i will take longer and longer to buy the next version and buy at a cheaper price every time. You have not done a proper improvement to your "in-house engine" first iteration of the game, the same bugs, same glitches, you added a few features here or there but nothing i would call an improvement. If you are unable to improve your engine just use one of the…

I barely have any time or any joy left to play games these days, but this brought a smile to my face. It is a clear labour of love and elaborates on aspects of warfare that are seldom explored, like building, setting up a camp for a siege, pike & shot dynamics, among others. The developers are sincere, and history fans will just scream at the monitor, "Why don't you have a conquest of the New World DLC when this gmae would perfectly represent its dynamics?!" I definitely recommend. It is a…

Renaissance Kingdom Wars is a very welcome addition to the Kingdom Wars franchise. I have only played 40 hours or so, but have been involved in countless battles -- for expansion and for survival -- and am still learning what the best mix of forces for my armies should be. In the previous Kingdom Wars -- Kingdom Wars 4 -- my favorite armies consisted of 8 Templar Knights and 8 Cavalry, along with a Battering Ram, 2 Horse Carts and a cow. I could have used Hospitaller Knights and the…

Played for roughly over an hour and I must say it definitely looks promising. It is still very clunky, animations look weird, sound is a bit bugged sometimes but if they keep at it they can make this a very fun experience. It is a bit of a mixture of Mount and Blade and Total War. You can capture settlements with your armies then build up those settlements in real time too! In terms of graphics it is probably not very everyone as it gives of a feeling akin to older early 2000s strategy games…

Settlement gets attacked, have main army outside to reinforce. Game decided to give control of main army to AI, which proceeds to lose my best units with retarded actions (putting hand cannoneers on the front line while pulling melee troops back to the map border) and even kills MY OWN GARRISON with MY OWN F-ING CANNONS. Manage to somehow wipe out the entire enemy army despite this and capture their entire camp, even survive until the timer runs out, but the battle doesn't end. "Guess I have…

The concept is okay, but the rendering, especially of sprites is three generations behind. The cut scenes would have you believe that this is not the case. City management is not an improvement over earlier versions and adding 'Renaissance' doesn't make the game any better.

I love the concept of this game. I love playing as Spain. I love the idea of water battles. A few days ago I tried a water battle....HORRIBLE, truly horrible. My cannons could not move at all, and didnt even fire at targets in range. Cav also could not move, so over 50% of my army was immobilised and sat still until death. I reloaded the battle multiple times to see if it was player error....nope just bugs. Today I saw that the update fixed a lot....so I decided to give it another shot. NOW…

These guys are basically the Soldak Entertainment of RTS games. They make these retro-looking, iterative games, each one building somewhat on the last, probably on their own wacky proprietary engine. Very distinctive look (I actually really like it, but it is NOT modern), and an even more distinctive approach to the genre. It's very siege-based: each battle plays out like a compact AOE match or something, with walls and various buildings for production, recruitment, etc. that can be built and…

This is my first time playing this game, and overall, it's decent. However, there are several issues and features I'd like to see addressed or added: • Unit Pathfinding Issues: Units sometimes refuse to move or fail to attack enemies effectively, leading to unnecessary casualties. • Siege Battle Problems: Lack of control over where artillery spawns can result in them being placed in vulnerable positions, such as in front of walls or outside defensive structures. Playable area in defensive…

The actual gameplay is fantastic. Like a cross between mount and blade bannerlord and mannor lords. However, the game runs very poorly. Several stutters, no resolution options, and worst of all, the game will constantly crash. Definitely wait for full release on this one, or at least until they fix the performance issues.

Very cool game. Once I was able to set up a borderless windowed setup the graphics stabilized (full-screen was a bit problematic w/ motion blur) and things became very enjoyable. I'll echo what the other positive reviews have said; you might be into this game if you're into Mount & Blade, Total War, or even Age of Empires... but especially if you're into the Early Modern era (1500-1600) with its matchlocks, pikes, galleons, and floppy hats. The game is still very unstable though -- it booted up with the wrong resolution and even crashed out of the tutorial without a save (which means I lost all of my progress). That's fine though, since I hope stability is top priority.…

I can definitely see constant iteration and slow improvements over the years, but still this is a super niche title. Good game, nice and smooth gameplay so far, it's only just released to early access so we can expect some hick-ups: If you are using multi screen I highly recommend sticking to windowed mode. About the Game: The game is based in the 1500's, there are a lot of factions you can choose from to play. You have lots of options on how to play, including playing as Pirates, conflicts on both Land and Sea. Graphics/Visuals: The game has what I would call dumbed-down graphics (despite when I…

At the title screen, the devs are very upfront that this is an indie game by a small team. With that, there's always little quirks that come with that, but none that bothered me in the overall gameplay. I grew up playing games like Civilization III and V (I missed a couple in between), as well as RTS games like Command and Conquer of various iterations. For a early release game this shows alot of promise, though it has its flaws. This game is rich in story an offers a variety of strategy. This game seems to itch that need for kingdom building, army training , farming mayhem. Reminds me alot fo older titles like Age of Empires and Civilization. Enough nostalgia to make ya day dream , yet enough new age ideas introduce to bring you a new way to play strategically.
