What people are saying
Mixed reception: praised for depth and atmosphere, but plagued by bugs and reskin allegations.
Many players enjoy the game's blend of city-building, politics, and warfare, finding it immersive and satisfying. The tutorial and historical context are appreciated by some, though others find the tutorial lengthy. [1][17][15]
However, a significant number of players report frequent crashes, bugs, and performance issues, especially during the tutorial. Some allege the game is a reskin of previous titles from the same developer, calling it a scam. [4][25][27][32]

57 of 57 · most liked firstI bought this game to warn other users. This developer publishes the same game every year to scam people. They've never fixed the game, the barely put in effort to make it run year over year. Check out their published games and feast your eyes. The EA release to to give the excuse that its broken because its in early access. This is not the case. It will not be fixed. It will be abandoned and republished as something else next year. DO NOT BUY. Honestly, I don't know why Steam lets them…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is something super fishy going on with this developer and game. I felt like I recognised the game and was surprised to see its a new release. I purchased and downloaded it and could instantly tell this was a re-skin of an older game they released previously. They just rebranded the name. Now that's not where it stops being suspicious ... I only played the game for a matter of minutes but when I go to the refund page it says I have played the game for 45minutes ? I absolutely did not ..…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Early take on Civ 7 Like: -Artstyle shift back towards 5 vs the very cartoony 6 style -Barbarians and City-States getting fused like that one game mode for 6 I never played but thought was interesting -Navigatable Rivers, makes maps way more interesting and realistic visually and in gameplay

Due to the Character limit on comments this will be in 2 parts. This is Part 1 -With every game the Dev has put out, it is getting "better" -It is absolutely true that major issues exist in this game that break it from functioning or being playable. They have always existed. - The Dev has always been responsive across all of their games, which is a…

The level of the troop dont work a level 1 have the same stats than a level 6 execpt your main hero that does have more health with level. There was a bug that when the siege tower reach your wall the game crash when you load back the ennemy still there and when you fight its happening again i did contact support on discord and they said they will fix it and the fix was to disable the siege…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game just feels good to play. It’s easy to get into, but still gives you enough control to feel like your decisions actually matter. Building up your city is genuinely satisfying, and nothing feels overly complicated for no reason. Just a really solid, relaxing medieval city-builder that ended up being way more fun than I expected!

unlabelledView post →Played a game on TTS into my friend's City States. Really worked on my positioning to set up flank charges, which worked out pretty well. All in all, a really fun game #hobbystreak 1055

When it comes to PC/Laptop requirements I recommend only looking at the Recommended specs and ignore the minimum specs. When scrolling in and out with the mouse wheel (thinking it will zoom in and out) it does something unexpected. When scrolled out you have a top (ish) view, when you scroll in, the view does something weird (I've…

unlabelledView post →I do not normally leave reviews, but this is deserved one. This game plays like something from 2003 except the graphics are somehow worse. It is literally a reskin of their last 10 games that have a similar concept. Nothing is new. Nothing is different. All one has to do is look at the developers list of games and the pictures are almost all identical. Requested a refund, because this game does not live up what the videos and pictures promise.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →City States: Medieval revolves around building villages into prosperous medieval cities. Players gather resources, construct homes and production buildings, establish trade routes, and maintain a functioning economy. Unlike many city builders, every decision has political and social consequences. The population is divided into distinct classes—including peasants, burghers, nobles, and clergy—each with unique demands and expectations. Keeping one class satisfied may upset another, forcing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, even though the graphics, gameplay and mechanics are out dated its solid . BUT OMG THE CRASHES ARE REALLY DOING MY HEADING!!! you have had the same crashes in the previous games and they still exist even after the update you claim to have fixed.

And you’ve got to find them in the City-States they are residing in, as they would change location based on in game time. (Also don’t have it affect bonds)
unlabelledView post →In the Circle DC Day One debrief from our kids last night we heard raving lust about this game. Our son described it as the Italian City-States version of Here I Stand, which makes it very attractive to household. The debrief was about 90 minutes (soooo many stories). Very cool! 🔥

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a couple interesting mechanics like mixing the RTS and overworld grand strategy genres together. Ultimately though it is horribly bugged, clunky and unpolished which takes away most of the fun. To put it into better view, according to achievements 77% of people started the tutorial but only 7% FINISHED it. only 35% of players decided to load the game. Not even to do anything fancy, just start the game, save it and decide to come back to it and load it at a later time. This shows…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Usually not a strategy game person, but this one kept me interested. It doesn’t feel overly complicated, and it’s nice figuring things out as you go. Pretty chill game that ended up being more enjoyable than I thought.

unlabelledView post →This game will make you feel your decisions matters which actually don't. Even if it's still in early access the game already has a lot to give you. I've been playing strategy games for about 20 years now and I've never found a worldwide, economic management, economic dependent technology research system, city planning system and RTS battles. ps. Total War Troy was very close, but the game felt a bit awkward. But there are some minor problems with the game at the moment due being early…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great strategy game! Something similar to Total War, but with the added bonus of building directly in the city or from the city menu, a very interesting economy, diplomacy, and events. 1. If I had to nitpick, it would definitely be the visibility of units during battle. I understand that the Middle Ages are associated with gray and faded landscapes, but here, during battle, emblems and units themselves are barely visible. 2. Limited faction selection. I understand that this is Early Access; we…

It takes half an age to befriend them and there aren't envoys. I only saw like 4 city states my entire game. NO BARBARIANS!

unlabelledView post →This game looked great, reminded me of an old game I use to love years ago. It has a lot going for it but it definitely could do with a bit of UI and texture clean up. There are so many different mechanics that skipping the tutorial would be a nightmare, and yes the tutorial is a bit long but does help so stick to it! There is so much happening on screen at any given time so the graphics do tend to stutter if you are not playing with the right hardware or at the right settings. Honestly for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is exactly the medieval strategy game I’ve been looking for. Building a thriving city, managing trade routes, and defending your prosperity creates a gameplay loop that’s incredibly satisfying. Great atmosphere, solid mechanics, and plenty of depth. Looking forward to future updates. The one downside is that it doesn't work very well on steam deck. Needs more work
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Joan Didion once described LA as a tabula rasa. Rosecrans Baldwin comes to a somewhat different conclusion, tho not necessarily at odds with that one. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →City States: Medieval is a captivating strategy game that perfectly blends city-building, politics, and warfare. With its deep, yet accessible mechanics, every decision feels impactful, from managing resources to navigating complex alliances. The beautiful medieval world and immersive atmosphere pull you in, I started playing the tutorial and lost track of time I was enjoying it so much!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The bgm is cool, makes it feel more like in a medieval era. The tutorial is also very helpful and easy to understand. The story is also good and fun to follow. I think it's pretty accurate by history. The animation, the sound effects, and the voice actings are also good too, it's like im in this era. The game also has a selection of difficulties, making it easier to play for beginners. The diplomacy system is really interesting, making the players understand how a diplomacy in the medieval era…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is excellent, the voice acting is comfortable to listen and the graphic itself suit the game as a medieval theme game, I love the enviroment that you guys have in here like the snowy weather, foggy, and the animation on the character. I love the characther voice over and the idle animation for the NPCs like recruitable characters and some animals that wandering arround the map. The storyline is great and you guys really deliver the story well. Its a great game specifically for a gamer…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This medieval RTS is immersive, with detailed castles and solid strategy gameplay. It can feel repetitive at times and has a bit of a learning curve, but the depth and decision-making keep it engaging. A good choice if you enjoy tactical strategy games.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is an interesting and fun continuation of the Renaissance Kingdom wars game series.! Although, this time, the setting is the 12th century / medieval times, with historical contexts in place. I'm playing on a 1080p monitor and with medium to high settings enabled, and the game ran great for me, with some minor, graphical annomolies.
