What people are saying
Overwhelmingly positive reception, praised as a fresh Kingdom Rush-inspired tower defense.
Players overwhelmingly praise Relic Guardian as a charming and innovative tower defense game, often comparing it favorably to the Kingdom Rush series. Many highlight the cute pixel art, deep mechanics, and the unique ability to reposition towers as standout features. [1][4][7][15]
Some players note minor issues such as janky quality-of-life features, a short playtime, and a few balance concerns with certain hero forms. However, these criticisms are far outweighed by the positive reception, with the game earning an 'Overwhelmingly Positive' rating on Steam. [23][28][35][36]

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →similar to Kingdom Rush (obviously inspired by it) but diffrent enough to keep things interesting, highly recommend if you like the genre
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good not gonna lie. Highly recommended if you are into Tower Defense games. Art style, sound, and general gameplay are very good and hidden easter eggs are funny and every map has a few. Every map/chapter has different mechanics so you can't use the same strategy everywhere, challange modes are challanging, All the towers have their uses/strengths and weakness It's one of those games where everything just fits in together nicely, nothing appear "extra" or "gimmicky", and the art &…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an extremely fun and creative twist on the Tower Defense genre. You're an active on the field commander, able to pick up and reposition towers on the fly, and have numerous stage hazards that make the threats as much of a puzzle to use the environment to your advantage as well as bringing the proper strategy. Both towers and enemies have a variety of strategies, tactics, and nuances that make crafting your strategy incredibly fun. The Hero system is really good for making your special…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I'm just 3 hours in roughly. And I noticed theirs no reviews so I'll post my thoughts I'll probably come back and edit this properly later with a more well thought out review. But my first impressions? It's kingdom rush but like 10x better. I never got hooked on kingdom rush but this game takes that formula and amps it up 10x. Theres a lot more to do as the rounds are going on. All things considered even on normal difficulty theres a good amount of mid round management to keep you busy and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the more complex tower defense games I have played, it can feel a bit overwhelming in the start, but once you get used to it, it is actually really fun. So, this is built like a classic tower defense game with lanes where waves of enemies run down and your goal being to defend the end of the lane from any enemies passing through. In order for you to defend your lane, you summon these towers at a summoning point and then carry them into one of the predecided areas to defend your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game takes inspiration from games such as Kingdom Rush games in its approach to the Tower Defense genre. The only thing this game really brings to the table is that it an anime style with cute girls, and thats enough of a change for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kind of just a janky game. Missing weird stuff here and there. Overall just an inferior version of the kingdom rush games, with a story that makes no sense. The gimmick of having to go to towers and move them around isn't used almost ever as an actual mechanic, and its usually just annoying because of the way its implemented. upgrading things you have to stand next to them, but you don't just click the thing, so you can click on one tower, but if your character is next to another tower, it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Came for the art style, stayed for the solid TD design. probably one of the few games for me that does not require itself to be hard/overly challenging to be fun. light but substantial, visually a treat, a great experience overall. would definitely pay for a small expansion :) Upgrades are narrow in scope but deep in variation, tower types is diverse enough to accomodate most playstyles. gameplay progression is always fresh with different things to interact with in between stages, and new…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →IMO heavily inspired by but better than the Kingdom Rush series. It's unique enough to stand on its own with lots of different things to do on the maps. I see a few people complaining about the mechanic where your character can manually move towers but I thought it was a unique touch and added some more depth to gameplay. I got really tired of other games like KR suddenly introducing a completely new path midway through a level forcing you to replay if you aren't aware in advance because it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love tower defences. Saw this, it's very cute. The main character is a redhead (like me yay). In the settings you can customize how much money you have and the enemies health/damage taken and it does NOT affect the achievements The achievements themselves are fun to get, randomly clicking everything will give you surprises, but be prepared, some you gotta fight! If you're a tower defence, this is for you If you're an achievement hunter, this is for you Very cute pixel game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok so why is this rated "Overwhelmingly Positive"? *plays for an hour* I understand now. (the cute artstyle, the depth, the mechanics, the world map, the menu, high fiving a hand through a portal which closes and cuts off the hand...)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Watching this game built from a small twitter Gif picture to an actual game is such a pleasure。 And the final game is not a disappointment. Its well developed and have a cute graphic though the whole game. lots of hiding details, too. Still need time to play more, but a positive review is well deserved.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to play this game but bad QoL just killing it for me They add main character which we use to buy and build towers and it is sooooooo inconvenient. Restart a level is literally a hell. Instead of spend like 10 sec to build the whole towers setup I have to spend like 2-3 min and a lot of extra clicks Upgrade is also inconvenient, because I can't see the total cost of a tower I want, and I can't upgrade in one click Also it fells like that I should be able to play that game using…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is great so far! It's like a cross of Kingdom Rush and Touhou Monster TD, taking the most game-defining aspects of these two games and joining them together. Only issue is that the graphics/sprites look crunched and a bit messy on windowed mode.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay Relic Guardian - Tower Defense is so cute and super fun to play. The pixel art style is so squishy 🥰 I'd love to see this have controller support on release. 💜🎮 store.steampowered.com/app/2064610/... #indiegames

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a certified Kingdom Rush enjoyer, I gotta say that this game slaps. The game is experimental in a good way, and uses most of its gimmicks in fun and creative ways.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Phenomenal tower defence game in the Kingdom Rush lineage. Gameplay is stellar, tonnes of fresh new mechanics and unique features on every level. The pixel art is adorable and adds so much polish to the experience. I think it's best summed up by two innocuous and unnecessary features I ended up having so much fun with: dancing and grabbing. I only found out about them from the controls menu, but you can do a little idle dance to generate coins while you don't have anything else to do. And…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent game on paper but the over-reliance on moving towers instead of just giving your character a way to interact with the battlefield feels really boring. Everything feels like it was bottle-necked around them wanting to have you play 'your part' while being in the field, but all it really does it drag out interactions. To place a tower anywhere i have to waddle back to the summoning circle and carry it somewhere every time. Upgrading feeling clunky and most upgrades don't feel significant…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the style of this game, those little goobi goobers are very cute and funny, it radiates personality, I don't know how or who developed this, but for me it shows that this was some kind of personal passion project with a lot of hours spend into it. Gameplay wise it also doesn't disappoints, the fact that you can move towers and sometimes the levels expect you to do that makes the levels more dynamic than in an ordinary tower defense game. You also can put your character to do cute dances…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish there was more in depth info about all towers and also generally a bit more depth to the mechanics. Besides -tower is fast but low damage- and -tower is slow but high damage- and magic vs physical damage, there does not seem to be much more to it. Seems a bit flat and makes me not care for what towers to use. I do like the graphics and the general design of the game but the lack of depth and the need to run around to place all towers turned me off. Ill have another look in a few months…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very similar to Kingdom Rush, which is a good thing! Great pixel art style, wide variety of towers, and the avatar character has different forms that act as your selectable "Hero" characters. This game also has a strong emphasis on repositioning your towers, which adds an interesting twist to the TD genre. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming DLC.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, this game is great, Despite only really having 5 towers, Each of those towers have 3 separate forms they can take and 4 upgrades for each form that can change the way that they play. Your "Hero" character has plenty of forms that offer a great range of gameplay mechanics. (And is exceptionally cute) And in my opinion the best thing of all, the art style is incredibly charming to look at, and almost every level has little secrets to discover.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just a pure joy to play. Definitely one of the best tower defense games I've played in my life and a more than worthy successor to kingdom rush. Also a huge high five to the developers not to hide everything behind a pay wall like kingdom rush. That's how it should be. For that reason alone this game deserves our support. Also the bosses are awesome. The only thing i don't like is how static the backgrounds look - one or two small animations would do magic (especially in the second…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really good tower defence game, enjoyed beating it only taking around 10 hours even with my relatively slow strategy. only issues I see is some of the version of Pani being just worse than others I used Lyris and MornMorgen once and almost never again due to how weak they were even at max the melee Pani's get outclassed hard, usually in the world after you get them, for example Asrai usually getting blitzed or solo'd by alot of enemies unless you get 120+ valor) which usually means a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very well made tower defense game in the vein of the Kingdom Rush series. You have infantry that can block enemies, a skill tree, and towers with abilities, hero units and towers, that kind of thing. Even has levels with a bunch of clickables and easter eggs. It isn't content to just retread that ground, though. There's a decent amount of content and variety here, and some fresh ideas. You have five classes of tower, with three varieties from which you pick two for your loadout between…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent cute game but way too slow. Levels are long but not a lot happens in them until the very end, and money generation is awful so you aren't really doing much for most the level. This is a super casual game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought the game because I followed the dev on twitter. It's very much inspired by kingdom rush, but also makes many innovations of its own. For starters, you have to physically move your orange haired gremlin to different spaces in order to build and upgrade towers; adding much more action on the player's part beyond sitting back and watching things happen. Which reminds me of another game called "Bish Bash Bots". Additionally, your "hero" character can be used as either a tower than can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very fun tower defense
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun, small tower defense with cute graphics, cool gameplay loop and fantastic secrets! Time to guard those relics (one of the relics is Stara Cedeta... this relic has no value, but it shall be protected) :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Underwhelming for the price off trying for a bit. Maybe it gets better, but enemies at least early on seem to spawn at a constant rate. Waves last a bit too long for their lack of variety, which is helped out a little by the speedup feature. Has some promise, just not worth the asking price imo. Might buy again for around $10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you love the older Kingdom rush tower selection and balancing then you'll enjoy this game a lot. Tons of customisable towers and unique hero choices in the game. Doesn't suffer from the meta picking as badly as the newer Kingdom rush games as each tower type has 3 specialty upgrades with 2 being used for battle (+ their own perks which modifies their playstyle) Really good pixel artstyle and interactive abilities of Fran. Repositioning towers is such a gem of a skill, not to mention the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10. Short and sweet. Gameplay is snappy, decent amount of upgrades and progression, doesn't overstay its welcome. Very cute artstyle and animation too. Music and Sound design is... serviceable at best but it is what it is. Got it on 25% off for MYR 37 and 100% everything in 11.4 hours, pretty good deal.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →been playing "relic guardian" for about 5 hours now and honestly it’s a really fun game. the pixel art is super nice, everything looks clean and you can tell the devs actually put effort into the style and design. gameplay is pretty addictive too. you gotta think about where to place towers and how to deal with the waves, so it’s not just mindless clicking, it actually makes you think a bit and plan your moves. overall it’s a really solid little pixel tower defense game. easy to get into…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am very short into my adventure but I am absolutely LOVING IT. The art is so cute, there's a dedicated dance button and everything is SO CUTE. Even if the gameplay was bad (which it isn't so far) I could just stare at all the art and interactions and be satisfied. I enjoy the tower moving mechanic and just being able to have my little character move around. I, personally, also like the full refund on towers. There's also a challenge/balance config where you can make the game harder or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun tower defense game. Love the towers you get to play with, alot of them have cool synergies. the sprite work is GORGEOUS! the flavor text for everything is pretty charming. the difficulty is really good, i always felt moderately challenged but never lost more than a few times. tons of fun little secrets to find in just about every level. my only real complaint is that the ost is extremely bland, but i cant hold it against the game too much with how polished everything else is. highly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really cute tower defence game with adorable pixel art. Awesome difficulty adjustment sliders for a lot of different parameters. Just sad I played through it already xD

unlabelledView post →It is a very good tower defense with original ideas. My main complaint is the difficulty not well balanced. The game seems easier as you progress and the Bastet avatar (hero) is clearly too strong. But if you like old school 2D tower defense games, then just buy it you won't be disappointed.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →just a good tower defense game, if you like kingdom rush you'll like this :3

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hit a strange wall in terms of being able to proceed, and given the progress system of the game I became disinterested in continuing. It was such a weird situation that it feels like maybe it was a bug. I tried about a dozen different strategies on a single level and nothing seemed to be able to get me through on normal.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best game, much more easter eggs than KR has, Can swap out towers for other, and adjust your strategies freely, I love that you can also adjust the diffulty even further by adjusting the income per death or the enemy , adjust how much health the enemy has, and what your starting bonus looks like and depending on the diffulties you set the level to it may or may not be as easy as you think the level may be ;) . Overall very fun, similar to KR but very unique from that series in their own way.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →please to make this playable,, interesting mobs, faster waves, more money for killing , reward for clearing stage depending how many didnt get through. Mobs have no strategy after the first area with animals. your away from keyboard so much because you get so little money from mobs it becomes so tedious. I really enjoyed the first section though with more engaging mobs and not so bullet sponge. But sitting here watch the fish waddle slowly across miles of screen to hit my tower…

I feel like some towers are hot garbage, it's sad that modifiers often nerf your towers in reward for a little effect. I would also prefer seeing the actual stats instead of a number of bars. However artsyle is cool. I love all the easter eggs everywhere, the things you can interact with are nice, tower variety is there, same for monsters.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a huge fan of the Kingdom Rush series who bought all of their little games on mobile and beat them allow me to say this: This is a fantastic game that is worth your money even at full price. I got 25 hours out of the game and I platinum'd it. I also played on the hardest difficulty hell just because I wanted a challenge and MAN was I challenged but it never felt unbeatable. This game's mechanics on tower defense are up there with Kunitsu-Gami?: Path of the Goddess in terms of fun for tower…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun Tower Defense game. Basic premise is somewhat similar to Kingdom Rush games, but Relic Defense has lots of own ideas and fun mechanics – and a lot of charm. Edit after finishing the game: it's super fun game. The further you go, the more unique it gets with map and tower mechanics, with some really cool bosses and lots of loadout customization. Also, it's just genuinely fun to play – warm graphics, various little details, funny animations, plenty Easter Eggs. It was just super…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a fun tower defence game. Some of the levels are directly from some of the Kingdom Rush levels with a small twist. It is a little unbalanced, the poison upgrade for the mage tower is a bit overpowered. The game overall is really easy as well.
