The original devs coming back to make a legally distinct sequel years later? A childhood dream come true. Boy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ howdy was I wrong to get my hopes up. Where do I even start? The game being a roguelite for no reason? The uberhero being useless in this game? The levels being far shorter and way more boring? The gameplay loop being murdered? The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is a lot of effort put into this game, but its really in the wrong places. They wanted to make "patapon but with new stuff" - the roguelite aspect is definitely new, but its quite boring to play more than a few times. The art is extremely nice, and there are main characters who are really well made - but they are tied to classes, so if you have a character then your army is fixed, and vice-versa. Oh, and they give you no options what to bring with you, have 2 types of classes, and you…

And oh boy It's not disappointed me! Recommend this game to my friends to play together, and since then we, all almost 30 years old dudes all share one brain cell chanting…

unlabelledView post →I love Patapon. I played every Patapon game on the PSP and was extremely excited at the announcement of this game. This is not Patapon. And that's perfectly fine, but it's not a good roguelite either. The grind is necessary; it took me 1 run to get to the third boss and 6 runs to get past the third boss, and then I promptly died on the next world because of how little damage I was doing. Examples of why you have to grind you grind for weapons, both legendary and not - because upgrading…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I hoped for a patapon like campaign then I backed this game on a kickstarter. Now I’m just disappointed it is a roguelike. It has solid music but the pacing gets interrupted every time you complete the stage so you can select your reward. There is no good flow to the gameplay. You play your music, music abruptly stops, you stop, you need to pick your reward, go to another stage, repeat. Your „army” composition feels very limited. Instead of freedom you get small boosts in some stats. This game…

unlabelledView post →So, I heard of the game 'Patapon' about 3 years ago or so. It was the first time I heard or seen something like it. However it looked funny and unique in its own way, so I watched some videos on it. Through that, I found out Ratatan was being made and how its the spiritual successor to Patapon. I played this game for a little bit and I adore it. Its totally not something I would normally play. I tend to like strategy games or city builders or rogue lite games. Ratatan being a rhythm game…

unlabelledView post →I played Patapon during PSP ages. This is a nice one, but something feels wrong... 1) Meta progression. YEAH, i understansd that this game is rogue-lite. but you just can't beat a 3d boss on fresh character because it is a damage race which you will loose with stock equipment and without Ratatan skill, which is locked behind a quest. Upgrade for that ultimate skill is also locked behind grind. 2) Upgrading weapons is like in a typical mobile game feed 10000 other weapons to one you want to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I backed this game on kickstarter and I payed a hell of a lot more than I would have, if I knew what the end product is going to be like. Do not make the same mistake and expect to experience the new Patapon in this game. This is but a shadow of the Patapon games. Similar look, similar drum-beat commands but without any depth. Gone are the character building mechanics, leveling up passives from one class to unlock them for the rest, weapon crafting rythm mini games, story, memorable rivals and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I get why, it was really funny chatting with some of the team during SGF, hearing them stress they want Ratatan to be seen as a different game to Patapon... when the logo is very, very clearly designed to be read as "Patapon" in addition to "Ratatan".

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its ok, much better than the beta, but still has alot of balancing issue and tool tip is not very well descript. its like patapon but theres more micromanaging with very little gameplay mechanic to support that more involved gameplay, you are expected to position your doods but the only command you have is to make them all come to you, while the game discourage you from going close to the enemy with big hurtboxes. it would have been better if the game add more ways to control the minions like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Removing welcome mode was a kick in the teeth. Why can’t I just have ez mode on like before? I’ve got some short term memory issues that limits me from enjoying a lot of games. Why not just separate saves in locked welcome mode and not welcome mode instead? You’ve completely killed my enjoyment for this game with this change. I genuinely don’t see who it benefits.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun Many people not play enough and post the comment. Yes, The weapon class is restricted, but ONLY IN THE BEGINNING. DO THE QUEST TO UNLOCK IT. There is a hard mode with different boss. Don't give up after completing the first run. The disadvantage is it is time consuming and repeated to collect the item for updat and craft. But not a big deal, it is PC game. Looking Forwards to more content. Appreciate.

unlabelledView post →I loved the original patapons and I dont think experimenting with the formula is bad. Game is short as hell - it took me around 6h to finish all 5 worlds with a ratatan that I like. Now what? Just grind gear for sake of grinding gear and playing the same game but with additional modifiers to make it harder? Also I miss that there is not much to look forward in this game - usually in a roug like you see something you can't use yet - you need to unlock some skill or something to take another…

unlabelledView post →This game has a Patapon-like vibe, but the stages don’t give me the same excitement I felt playing Patapon 10 years ago. There isn’t much build variety, and the unit system (minions, I guess?) feels quite limited. Adding roguelike elements doesn’t make the game more engaging either, as the gate mechanics slow the game’s pacing too much. Being forced to play multiple stages in a row (even though there is a give-up option) feels quite boring compared to the Patapon-style grind of farming…

Please make the tutorial better other than telling the players on how to play the commands in rhythm, but also let the players know how the cards and element levels works. I'm aware most of the tutorial exist in the help menu but I still find it hard to understand until I play the game even longer, good thing I have the patients to learn how the game works and I'm…

unlabelledView post →WARNING: Do not go into this game expecting it to be exactly like Patapon 1,2 & 3. Read the description For one as it says its roguelike, lots of grinding needed for the other levels as those stages will absolutely wreck you. Its a great game, that uses the genre of roguelike well. With the different element left for you to experiment on and play off, every run feels a bit different than the last one. The multiplayer is good, both of you fight the same enemy but get different rewards at…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very poor imitation of Patapon without any of the parts that actually made Patapon good. No large armies, no real sense progression, controls aren't even really rhythm based, even the music isn't as good

unlabelledView post →A strategic rhythm game that expands on its predecessor in a joyful barrage of notes, spears and claws! Ever since I first played it on the PSP, I have always been a huge fan of Patapon, a civilisation game of sorts where you smash the drum of war leading your little eyeballs against all the creatures and tribes that oppose you. Ratatan is more or less an evolutionary rougelike side-step of Patapon (mostly due to copyright issues) yet keeps that distinct Patapon feeling intact while expanding…

unlabelledView post →Edit: Game is delayed again (shocking I know) and still no part 3 of the roadmap. Just plain weird to play. I can't get over how your character moves independently of your army, it makes the game feel so unfocused and disconnected. The bullet sponge bosses make stage segements go on forever and I start to get bored of constantly mashing out the same command while the boss or my own cobuns run behind or in front of each other forcing me to play the rally song just to recenter the fight only for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy this unless you are ready for the crack that this is. Coming from someone who loved Patapon 3 as a kid, it mixes the fun gameplay (which btw has an amazing OST, I love the vibes of it) with roguelike elements. Making each route unique, while it's not something I mostly enjoy, seemed to be a huge hit with this one. The art is also amazing, really damn cute and quickly fell in love with it. My only complain comes from the translation part, as I tried to play in spanish and there are…

unlabelledView post →I don't recommend this game in it's current state (early access). The gameplay leaves a lot to be desired, the gameloop is not very engaging (it was an open beta, but it felt like an alpha in some aspects), online is broken for a lot of people, the single-player mode makes me sleepy. The music, to be honest... gets grating after a while. I love Patapon 3's OST the most, so maybe that's why i don't really like the music in this game for more than 10 minutes. I know there's people that enjoy…

So: It's a good game, but it's also really taxing for me. I've got to lead off with something really important: This is primarily a rhythm game, and you'll be doing things in time with the in-game's music. If the music in the game's videos winds you up, well, while you can play this with the music off and be successful, it's kind of…
