Quake 4
Developer RavenSoft, id Software
Quake 4 is a 2005 first-person shooter game developed by Raven Software and published by Activision. It is the fourth title in the Quake series, after the multiplayer Quake III Arena, and a sequel to Quake II. Raven Software collaborated with id Software, who supervised the development of the game as well as provided the id Tech 4 engine upon which it was built. The game has an increased emphasis on single-player… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

In the end it suffers because it doesent know if its a military shooter or a boomer shooter but still, great game. Now, i'm going to play STALKER 2

It's amazing what mappers created with a tweaked Doom 3 engine, like I feel like some might have passed on the game because of the perception it was still a grimy corridor shooter engine, but it's got range!

I'm super into Quake 4 right now, but can I really ask people who didn't buy it on launch in 2005 to throw money at Bethesda today? I can't

unlabelledView post →I wrote a Quake 4 review on Cohost that I'm looking to re-upload elsewhere, the tl;dr was essentially "Quake 4 is okay for a Quake game." There were a lot of cool ideas being played with that I feel were held back by the pressures of expected mid-2000s mechanics. I see it as a gamedev time capsule.
unlabelledView post →Finished QUAKE 4 again a couple days ago and I'm pretty sure it's actually my favorite art direction for a game. I love EVERYTHING about it! The weapons look great, the marine armor might be my favorite looking sci-fi armor, and the flesh/machine monsters all look amazing! 👀

unlabelledView post →#30DayVideoGameChallenge HARD MODE Day two: an underrated game I’ve been thinking of id Tech 4 games a lot recently. Wolfenstein, Quake 4, DOOM 3… but Prey is great and talked about *so* little. It’s a super solid FPS that acts kind of like a bookend to the original golden age. #gaming

unlabelledView post →The game described here might actually just be Quake 4, if it had continued its late 2004 direction. 😅
unlabelledView post →Finished up Quake 4, this one was pretty good!, I think I enjoyed Doom 3 just a lil bit more tho, but this game has an amazing atmosphere, and the Strogg designs still slap as usual. There was a bit of difficulty spike there at the end, but it was mainly just me being dumb lol
unlabelledView post →I started Quake 4 for the first time on the new machine. That game came out twenty years ago. The new machine's video card has enough "texture memory" to run 30 copies of it simultaneously.
unlabelledView post →Awhile back (about 2 years ago IIRC) I picked up a used physical copy of #Quake4 for PC. I was originally thinking of playing it on my WinXP rig (hence why I opted for physical) but today I decided to set it up on the main desktop instead. #Debian's `game-data-packager` was able to auto-build a set of .debs from the original CDs and the last official patch and the game runs with no issues. #LinuxGaming
unlabelledView post →Quake 4 had the misfortune to be a Pretty Okay FPS that released a year after Halo 2 did, which was a game that had an absolute stranglehold on console FPS mindshare for a million years, it also had a lot of technical issues as well
unlabelledView post →this is not even me hating I think it's cool. well, okay. I think they deserve a better game, with better stewards. but I don't think they'd disagree. I pray one day we get a Quake 4 for fujoshi. that would be the best game ever made.
unlabelledView post →I'm thinking hard on what an alternate, non-infringing story and aesthetic would be for Doom 3 or Quake 4, like the whole idea of a libre game is the mechanics are nearly equivalent if not equivalent; just the assets are different. The "We have xyz at home" game that's Linux repo-friendly. Not easy!
unlabelledView post →Quake 4 terrified me as a kid, I wasn't even THAT young at this point, but still, I was terrified of that game so bad. I never even saw the stroggification part in-game, I looked it up on YT and was like 👁️ 👁️ I did however play Enemy Territory: Quake Wars which I had a whole lot of fun with.
unlabelledView post →sadly Ms. Cargie, the first actual game I played was Quake 4 at the age of like 5 or something i was really good at jumping around a space map in an empty multiplayer lobby because my dad wanted me to know what an actual video game is like
unlabelledView post →Quake 4 today. Hoping that installing the game improves the godawful framerate.
unlabelledView post →This game has a slow start, but really shines when it gets away from thinking it's a grittier, more gory Halo. The gunplay is solid throughout, and single-player Strogg-stomping is best done alone (or with a co-op friend, which unfortunately Quake 4 lacks). I really wish Q4 was open-sourced. :(
unlabelledView post →I’ll take a Quake 4 minus the first half of the game that plays like mid 2000s shooter campaign. Skip right to the stroggification pls
unlabelledView post →Quake 4 certainly was a game from the early 2000s. It has great body horror but boy is that wasted on a pretty mid shooter with a lot of samey metal hallways waiting for nothing characters to do a thing while you shoot a lot of the same enemy type over and over.
unlabelledView post →Quake 2. You heard me. It was bundled with Quake 4, but it is still a 360 launch game.
unlabelledView post →Quake 4 is a solid game, it does suffer from feeling a bit like “not Halo” but the gunplay is really solid and the neat twist at the halfway point was cool. I’ve always been a bigger fan of the Lovecraftian tone of the first game but the Strogg conflict has its charm
unlabelledView post →Replaying Quake 4 yet again to get a feel for what the level design is like has been interesting. Much of the game is dark, but nowhere near the level that Doom 3 is dark. One could use that darkness a lot more effectively in Doom 3, like the stencil shadows themselves are a strong design element...
unlabelledView post →That game is already available on modern hardware tho. What i want is a remaster of Quake 4.

unlabelledView post →idk why people act like id shunting Quake campaigns in favor of more Doom is anything new the last time id made a singleplayer Quake game was in 1997. Quake 3 had botmatches only and Quake 4 was a different dev entirely
unlabelledView post →You can also read Strogg, user their machines, and are generally tougher too. I kind of wish Quake 4 got an expansion or sequel game since the base game was pretty dam good.
unlabelledView post →Yeah, literally just made the same point in another post. Like... you own Activision and Bethesda now. Where is my Quake 4 BC? The Raven Wolfenstein? Every Elder Scrolls game? Singularity? The list goes on.

unlabelledView post →Having one of those days where I wish I could just disappear from life and play Mass Effect 2 all the time. It's not the greatest game of all time, for that I'd have to say Dragon Age: Origins might pip it, or Bioshock, or Resident Evil or Quake 4 or wow, so many great games over the years.
unlabelledView post →Quake 4 is a lot like Doom 3 if I remember correctly. Its a slower game and has a few cinematic moments that take cues from Half-Life. I remember liking it, but the game is often forgotten about for similar reasons to Doom 3, probably even more-so since Quake 4 hasn’t seen a major rerelease
unlabelledView post →I watch a moderate variety of game-related content on Youtube and in podcasts. I find it really weird how often people my age/older, who talk about games professionally , cannot distinguish the PS3/360 generation from the PS4/Xbone gen. Garrett Mega64 said Quake 4 was a PS4 game
unlabelledView post →I rant a bit in today's devlog about the story problems the Strogg created that impacted their threat level, and how that might've been avoided. https://adorablesergal.itch.io/moonrise/devlog/1675741/strogg-story-time #quake4 #gamedev

unlabelledView post →So really, I'd have to abandon Quake 4 as a platform for a Quake 4 fan game, and in a way this does make sense if the goal is a wild switch in art direction. It's not like any of the original assets would be useful anymore, so a fresh start built on something like the Dhewm3 source port suffices.
unlabelledView post →Considering Quake 1 was Lovecraftian, 2 was sci-fi body horror, and 3 was a crossover arena game, I'm kinda disappointed that Quake 4 went back to the Strogg as the main focus. Until 4 it was almost like an anthology series. As it stands it's just Quake 2-2.
unlabelledView post →I always loved Quake 4 (like much of Raven's games), despite its poor sales. I think it failed mostly due to its bad timing... going against F.E.A.R. and Call of Duty 2 (and not too far from Half-Life 2) probably didn't help. But hey... I, for one, am happy to get this "DLC" if it turns out legit!
unlabelledView post →Welcome to the world of competitive '00s arena shooters. You're gonna have to learn Unreal Tournament '99, 2k3, 2k4, Quake 3, Quake 3 CPMA, Quake 4, Doom 3 (lol), uhhhhh PainKiller? Some weird ass game named Warsow?
unlabelledView post →Thank you for the clarification, I figured it was an oversimplification since DOOM still has some weight behind it. Quake is the only surprise as I don't think a successful Quake game has been around since Quake 4 maybe?
