Still, it really nailed a creepy atmosphere, scares, and a much darker tone. It's an effective horror game and deserves more attention.
unlabelledView post →I just reminded myself of around 2001, when I saw grainy, early screenshots from Doom 3 via the university internet, and I dreamt about what the game was gonna be like for weeks. I'm single and I want that kind of exciting nocturnal action again. 😅
unlabelledView post →a while back I made a mod for Doom 3 as proof of concept for "this game would be better without cutscenes" in this scene the player walks into a room with a window behind which people are talking, and we get a cutscene of the player watching through the window. just let me look through the window!
unlabelledView post →Huh, interesting. GOG have done a standalone repack for Fallout London, along with some other major mods like Doom 3: Phobos. You need to own the base game there, but you can then just download and play the mod as if it were just a regular retail title.
unlabelledView post →Google's overview just told me DOOM 3 was a PS4 and Switch game released in 2004 in case you needed an update on how that's going But it also says it was, "designed by id Software and Tim Willits", which... If that's meant to be a dig at Willits then incredible work, Gemmy, keep it up.
unlabelledView post →Aha! I've been waiting for the new version of The Dark Mod! For anyone who hasn't tried it before, it's basically a free Thief fangame platform based on the Doom 3 engine, with every mission made for it downloadable in-game. Some of the missions are extremely big and impressive.
unlabelledView post →This post isn't about the ending of Mass Effect 3,btw. It's about the kowtowing to a group of people after they started harassing developers associated with the game and how that was bad. Similar to the DOOM 3 example. For thoss that can't read the subtext.
unlabelledView post →Nu Doom 3 and that Louisiana swamp game looked cool, but sadly Xbox had zero, I repeat, zero scrimblo games. Total failure.
unlabelledView post →its really cute when zoomers 'back in the day' about stuff from before they were born. saw someone do a 'back when game devs didnt have to worry about the graphics arms race' vis a vis early 2000s. sweetheart we went from GTA3 to Doom 3 in less than 3 years
unlabelledView post →Mappers (especially those familiar with the Doom 3 engine, or The Dark Mod), please descend upon this game like a horde of locusts and produce endless funny cat rescue scenarios for me.
unlabelledView post →Welp, cant think of a better deal-sealer on DooM The Dark Ages being in the top 3 of my DooM games then shitheads giving it the DooM 3 treatment. Worthless criticism like this about franchises changing up the formula is why COD has basically been making the same exact game for like 20 years now.
unlabelledView post →This total reinvention of Doom leaned hard into the horror aspects of the series. Dark and atmospheric, but also fast-paced and intense, Doom 3 redefined what a horror game could be. It also didn’t hurt that the visuals were absolutely mind-blowing. Fun Factor: 5/5 Vibe: 5/5

We talked about F.E.A.R., Lost in Vivo, The Evil Within, how horrorvisuals came to be, and why Doom 3 is the perfect survival horror game. 😈
unlabelledView post →As somebody who hadn't played a newer DOOM game beyond DOOM 3 until now, I am absolutely IN LOVE with The Dark Ages so far 😭 Thank you all for your support while my mental health was a lil poor. Y'all + ripping and tearing cheered me right up ❤️ Thank you again @keymailer.bsky.social for the key!

unlabelledView post →So tired of the "DOOM 3 had a mixed reception" takes that crop up every time a new DOOM game comes out. It was, and remains, one of the highest rated DOOM games if we go by the original 2004 PC (and 2005 Xbox) release.
unlabelledView post →Since Splash Damage kind of abandoned Enemy Territory Quake Wars, it is getting harder and harder for the mod community to support the game and continue playing. The Doom 3 engine is already open source, so just like the OpenMOHAA project, I decided to start an OpenETQW effort.

unlabelledView post →Been playing OG Doom 3 and it's really cool so far. I kinda like the idea of the flashlight being a weapon. It makes you genuinely pay attention to the lighting and gives the game opportunities to catch you without a weapon. Ammo is also tighter too, so it's not braindead like BFG edition.
unlabelledView post →I keep wanting to replay the new DOOM games but I said to myself I would replay DOOM 3 first and getting hung up on it. It’s not the best game unfortunately.
unlabelledView post →Before his passing, Jason Busby of 3D Buzz released all the site's tutorials for free, including an excellent intro for Doom 3's level editor and scripting language. It's what I learned from, and with a new idTech4-based game releasing soon (Skin Deep), it's good to know idTech4 is still an option!
unlabelledView post →I think the Doom 3 assault rifle might be the worst feeling weapon in any Doom game. It doesn't sound or feel like anything and it's not fun to use, but it's one of the better weapons so you use it all the time.
unlabelledView post →I remember scaring the pants off myself playing Doom 3 I think it was (I was in a weird place) and just got a give me all the guns hack from somewhere. Because I knew I wouldn't play it otherwise. Unmet user need, desire line/path, whatever; jfdi game people. I bought a game not a belief system.
unlabelledView post →It was Doom 3 for me - Romero wasn't there to take Carmack’s insane tech and make a cohesive and interesting game with it, but for Daikatana Carmack wasn't there to push back on or make Romero’s wild ambitions actually function
unlabelledView post →Separating Doom 64 and the Lost Levels is weird. And also I don’t much agree with the rest of that ranking. Except that Doom 3 is a game I’ve never really liked.
unlabelledView post →You know what my favourite Doom game is? Doom 3.
unlabelledView post →Finished 10th game of 2025, DOOM 3 including both expansions. DOOM 3 was definitely a bit slower compared to its predecessor, and leaned more into the survival horror aspect. But nonetheless, once I got used to its pace, the story and gameplay loop was quite enjoyable. Onto DOOM 2016 next! 🔥🔥🔥

Like the originals are classic and 2016 was good [couldnt get into eternal im sorryyyyy], but doom 3 was sooo unique and im so glad its become the retroactively-appreciated gem for standing out

unlabelledView post →Doom 3 This is genuinely one of the coolest FPSes I've played. The art direction, presentation, and worldbuilding genuinely haven't been matched by any other game I've played. It's still impressive to look at, and it's criminal how bad the BFG Edition remaster is. Give it a shot.

You see, for some baffling reason, the devs at id decided Doom 3 needed to reinvent itself... as a survival horror game. Oh, dear.
unlabelledView post →Been playing more Quake 4 lately for inspo, and am sad I slept on the game's multiplayer. It's amazing what mappers created with a tweaked Doom 3 engine, like I feel like some might have passed on the game because of the perception it was still a grimy corridor shooter engine, but it's got range! #quake4 #doom3 #leveldesign
