I never knew until now that 'Resident Evil-meets-Puzzle Quest' was something I needed in my life. store.steampowered.com/app/2116510/...
unlabelledView post →While trying to get my thyroid levels back under control, a surprisingly helpful little game was one I'd all but forgotten: the original Puzzle Quest. $10 on Steam and it's still so damn good. It's like if you really enjoy Bejeweled but wish you could use your color-matching to kill your enemies.
unlabelledView post →I played the original game, and I don't remember it being so buggy. First, the graphics are better and worse. There is *less* portraits than in the old original. The overall quality of the graphics is better. Skills and everything look the same. Refreshed my original memories. Too bad I can't make a positive review as I just lost 25 hours of gameplay, because we have ONE save that is automatically overwritten. I had a quest to defeat 4 NPCs, and Captured the 4th. Guess what - now I can't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't listen to the negative reviews. If you liked the original, you're gonna love this. That being said, my review is targeted solely towards people who already played Puzzle Quest. A lot my love stems from nostalgia, so if you're new to this game/genre, maybe listen to someone else. I've sunken hundreds of hours into this game back on XBLA, I literally couldn't stop playing, it was always that feeling of "one more round". I'm having a VERY similar experience with the remake, having to force…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It feels like Sektori is the game my Steam Deck was built for me to play for years, like Lumines for the PSP or Puzzle Quest for the DS was. It’s a spiritual successor to Geometry Wars that is simultaneously more challenging and more forgiving. Beating the first boss feels like an accomplishment.
unlabelledView post →The ingredients to my game: - "What if the SNES had a CD drive?" - "Puzzle Quest was fun but also really long, can I shorten that?" - "It feels really good to catch like a dozen guys with one Fireball" - "I want a modern roguelike but, for the love of god, NOT a deckbuilder!"
unlabelledView post →This is actually a good modernisation of PQ that I would recommend, but it has a really annoying feature of highlighting the square you last moused over, or on a touchscreen last hovered anywhere near, it is completely distracting when trying to spot patterns, and if the devs bother to read this and add an option to disable it, I will update this to a positive review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game until mid to late game. Then every single enemy you start running into has a high chance to just make you lose your turn and there is literally nothing you can do about it in any way. This is frustration, not fun and frankly whoever designed this mechanic owes me a person apology.

unlabelledView post →I know all you match-three freaks (match-freeks?) are playing the Puzzle Quest remake, but also consider: Same mechanics, but a sharp, funny, survial horror parody story that's also a fourth-wall demolishing meditation on the very real horrors of game development. Now with a standalone expansion!
unlabelledView post →The core gameplay is really fun for a while, but the campaign outstays its welcome really horribly. By the time you're halfway through the game, you'll be sick of battling the same enemies over and over again, even when they can't oppose even a marginal challenge anymore. My character is basically untouchable by now, but I still have to grind the same gnolls, hill giants and doomknights who keep getting in the way and only serve as a waste of time. Additionally, the RNG sometimes feels off:…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →New blog post time! This week's game is Heroes Against Demons, a homebrew title that asks "What if Puzzle Quest was on the Sega Master System?". You get a smaller scale take on it, but you also get a game that's both a showpiece and a great example of how to make every tile and match meaningful:

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even if I don’t like the extra features, I am always happy to pay a sub to support dev teams building something I like. I’ve paid for Marvel Puzzle Quest and Merge Dragons, and bought games from my favorite indie devs even if I didn’t care for the specific game, because it means supporting them.
unlabelledView post →Oioioi I'm oneanah da pixel artists working on this game. It's a roguey thing, it's a little Puzzle Quest-y, it's a little bit tactical rpg too, there's a lot going on. Plus you're a very angry NB Cyberpunk hacker going and doing things that would get the discord subpoenaed to Mega Corp CEOs.
unlabelledView post →Game feels severely unbalanced. Tried out a rogue and struggled every fight, so I tried elementalist instead, now every fight was in my favour but enemies posed no challenge for the entirety of a first chapter, save for the fact they seemed to take way longer than they should. Health points seem meaninglessly inflated, I found myself dealing a handful of each damage each turn while enemy health entered triple digits what seems to be relatively early in the game. Some of the skills are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game cheats so much that you spend your time watching the computer play by itself and kill you. For every move you do, computer triggers so many random combos you just want to quit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Puzzle Quest: Immoral Edition - that's what this game should be called... Unfortunately, I am unable to play this "reworked" version of one of my favorite childhood games - the way this game looks compared to the original is a joke - the 3D models of the characters on the map look awful, the font resembles generic text written in Office, the icons on the boards were supposed to look better, but they are terrible (especially the skulls), the music, which was truly phenomenal for such a small…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really don't understand all those complains about the "AI cheating". I'm 26+ hours into the game. Finished 3 or 4 main quest lines with the bosses in the end and didn't encountered a single enemy cheating. Maybe those people were playing at HARD difficulty, but they shouldn't complain in such case either, cause it's supposed to be hard. I'm playing on normal. And just so new players would know, you can change the difficulty of the game before each battle, and can switch it back and forth as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In addition to The Sexy French Game, I have also been deeply enjoying Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3. A Puzzle Quest-style joy that manages to satirize every Resident Evil game simultaneously.
unlabelledView post →GAMES CHEATS, it's not even subtle about it. DON'T REWARD THIS B.S. 1) The game's AI when it's losing will make statistically impossible chains from the most simplest 3 matches. It will match 3 and suddenly the 'perfect' combos are set up from the supposedly random gems that fall to replace them. I've gone from 100% HP to 10% in ONE chain of moves of the AI so many times I can't even count. I kid you not, I've had the AI do a FOURTEEN in row combo while I just sit there and watch it get god…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pepole seem to complain about the AI getting several extra turns. But they forget about the extra turns they can get. Right now I am running a save where I can practically make my opponent unable to move. According to the enemies I'm clearly cheating.

unlabelledView post →The DS game crash count goes up 1 more tonight... Considering how half my playthrough has been one boss and grinding to beat one boss, which I'm thankfully past now, Puzzle Quest has certainly been A Time™ lol
unlabelledView post →My favorite exercise is to game jam through reproducing older games. Today I think I'll try and jam out a clone of Puzzle Quest based on KenneyNL's match-3 godot prototype. It'll be a fun #gamedev activity.
unlabelledView post →Too many of the problems with the original still exist: slow exploration, useless PC classes, absurd difficulty spikes (and bad balancing overall), bad RNG (I had a monster with a 1% chance of resisting a spell succeed in resisting it 7 consecutive times), tons of garbage powers. Tried several classes before I found one that could survive the low levels, then played for a good while (with lots of repetition) until I hit an absolute wall. Might be better for someone with more nostalgia for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very faithful, well-crafted remake/upgrade of the original game. That being said, it would be VERY hard to find a more repetitive experience. I usually play a stage or two and then close it; but that's about what I was expecting, having played it years ago on xbox 360.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Day 26: Guilty Pleasure Game Match 3 Games Not candy crush mind you, but I generally like a match three game with some extra mechanics and a bit more to them. Like Puzzle Quest was big when I was younger, I did the Pokemon Cafe game for a bit, Hunie Pop iykyk, the Monster Hunter one, Merge Magic..

unlabelledView post →Anyone who says the AI doesn't receive an obscene advantage through utterly ridiculous matches either hasn't played enough or is simply a glutton for pain. I've been wiped clean out multiple times in 9 hours of game time when the AI begins by matching 3 and suddenly gets multiple 4 and 5 skulls only from the new top drops. If i have to play a match game I'll go back to Gems of War. At least that game doesn't cheese out by simply making the AI cheat. I was excited for a remake of an original i…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a DS gamer from way back and I remember this game fondly. The Immortal Edition makes a lot of QOL improvements on the game. Here are positive ones that I noticed: A missed input no longer results in a turn loss. Mana Drain, from the original, has been changed to Mana Storm, in favor of the player. Some art has been enhanced and made for the better. Achievements make the gameplay feel a lot more rewarding. Here are the negatives: The new skull is dumb. I don't know who approved that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the original Puzzle Quest on PSP and PC, probably totalling hundreds of hours. Match-3 nowadays is a swamp of microtransaction hell. But this one is unsullied: brilliant core gameplay with an RPG coat of paint that you shouldn't take too seriously. On the positive side: Same great gameplay. Same music. I even fired up the PSP to double check this. Ignore the reviews which say the audio is all AI generated. While I can't be totally sure this is the case for all of the audio…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have always loved the puzzle quest games even went hard on the Gems of War mobile game that was made. So once I saw this remake I was pretty stoked. I thought they made some improvements but once I got to lvl 30+ I realized they hard NERFED all the great OG spells. Putting limiters on them. After I spent the time grinding to get the spells then realizing you guys destroyed all the good spells in the game I stop playing right after. Can no longer make strong builds. Won't touch this game…

unlabelledView post →It's remarkable that 15 years after my first encounter with Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, it remains the best match-3 title I've ever played. One might argue that you shouldn't try to fix what’s already perfect. ;-) Nevertheless, the Immortal Edition is here. Without overanalyzing every single detail of this remaster, I believe it's worth picking up simply for the bonus content that never made it to PC before. The graphics are solid, the sound is fine, and I haven't run into any…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Puzzle Quest remaster is the real deal. Runs great, looks great, and plays fantastic with a controller. Is the AI still cheap as hell? Absolutely! Starting tip, turn off suggested moves. The AI is just trying to lead you to your death. #blutoid store.steampowered.com/app/3236710/...

unlabelledView post →I canot think of a game that is more deserving of a "neutral" recommendation than PQ:immortal. "Puzzle Quest: Immortal" is an updated version of the 2007 original. It is an odd choice for an update, as the same developer also released the more recent offspring: "Gems of War". So PQ is both older and younger than its own son. How's that for time-travel ? The mechanics have remained the same, the plot is the same and so is the dialogue, but the graphics have been souped up. Like its…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I, like others, suffered a corrupted save file which meant I lost all my progress in the game. Devs haven't said anything about this or other bugs. Don't spend your money on this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can see why Puzzle quest had some success when it first came out in 2007 but it didn't aged well even with a full remaster. The gameplay loop is tedious, classes are irrelevant, battles are very long for no reason and rely heavily on RNG. Also, the griiiind is at every corner. The difficulty is also somewhat an illusion. Playing with the hard settings will only make the ennemy get more gems and skulls match. No skill involved whatsoever because you will get destroyed by a cheating AI. If…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Several character portraits are missing (including the amazing warlock who looked like he was going to tie someone onto train tracks). They added a mediocre new class, but nothing else. The computer still cheats as much as it always did. They removed multiplayer altogether. As long as none of the above is a dealbreaker, it’s great to have an official PC version of the good Puzzle Quest with all of the content across quite a few different releases. The remastered graphics look very nice and…

unlabelledView post →Played the original a lifetime ago, and always remembered it fondly. It is probably the most quintessential Match 3 game around, IMO. So, buying the remake with everything included was an immediate impulse buy. It's a perfect casual, save anywhere, highly addictive short burst, but easy to get back into, game that has become the mainstay on my Steam Deck when I only have a few minutes to play, such as in doctor's offices, waiting for shows or streams to come on, ect. Has a lot of very…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nostalgic. My sister got this when we both got a DS back in the mid 2000s and I borrowed it a couple times. I don't remember the normal difficulty being CBT though. Some people who have reviewed this game will firmly reject any notion that the AI cheats - it just "gets lucky" and so do you. Well, I think everyone is experiencing AI that is just a little bit TOO lucky then because ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the amount of times I just sat back as the opponent kept getting LUCKY MATCH, 5 OF A KIND, 5 OF A KIND,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More Puzzle Quest! This Puzzle Quest "Enhanced Edition" is amazing, so far. I am playing on a higher difficulty, and it is quite challenging. Having played original PQ1 and PQ2, I know how not set up the opponent, make match 4's for another turn, and wear down the opponent with combos. There are other difficulty settings, so it can be more flexible. So far, I am loving it.

The engagement of the match-3 is on par with OG Puzzle Quest, and y'all KNOW how much i glaze that game. Art and music? BANGIN. eagerly awaited!
unlabelledView post →The original premise is still excellent. It's a game not just about matching three colored gems but about playing the field of gems to enable spells and skills that beat up RPG opponents. Tons of ways to earn or create new equipment and spells and become an absolute monster on the battlefield. I've been looking for something to scratch the Puzzle Quest itch for years and usually it means just replaying the DS version of Challenge of the Warlords again. All the other similar games haven't…
