I am stunned of how terrible this "remaster" is. - The colors look totally idiotic, it's like the world is radioactive, everything is too colorful, even the snow - There is a aura around the units, they look like they are ghosts. Probably a crazy ambient occlusion? - No graphics options - They have replaced the varied tree textures with only 1 texture per tree. All pine trees look the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Introduction Years ago, the real-time strategy games consumed my time a lot, as I at least tried the vast majority of them. Praetorians, from 2003, was no exception, but it did not rank up among my favourites, so I was curious to see how I will enjoy this remastered version. Well, I got bored with the game during the first hours, but I still tried to find a way to like Praetorians. And while the second half of the campaign got my hopes up, it still was not enough for me to recommend this game.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Back in 2003, Praetorians blew me away. My old rig with P3, 16Mb RAM and Riva TNT2 was not able to pull off fancy new titles like CnC Generals or Total War, but Praetorians ran smoothly enough and, what's more important, it followed Caesar's steps on his way to power, and I was a long time fan of that guy. De Bello Gallico and Mommsen's History of Rome were my handbooks. But enough of that, let's get back to the game. As with all remasters, new generation gamers are not its target, it's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very low quality Remaster with little to no effort put into it. Cons: You cannot edit the graphical settings. The models look like the older ones but with 5% more polygons and blurrier textures. Villages look absolutely the same (1 pixel width fences). The in-game UI interface is a spit in the face when compared to the original Praetorians. The Kalypso client sucks and is criminally horribly designed when compared to other games. Mod support is garbage and only 1 feasible mod exists on the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lazy remaster, cannot even have custom keybinds, graphics are barely better and all that for 4x the price of the original?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll do my best to make sure this review isn't one bit biased, but for context, I'm Spanish, and this was one of the first strategy games I had on my PC back in the day, alongside Warcraft III, Age of Empires 2 and the original Stacraft. Back in the day, the gaming industry was at a bit of a renaissance era for strategy games and they were extremely popular in Spain, which lead to this small title that while good, remained obscure as all f#ck. As I usually do, I'll start with the negatives and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It needs some fixes. - Minimap. Praetorians OG didnt have this issue, but this one shows slightly to north from what you actually see. Say, if there is a unit on the center of your screen, it indicates on minimap that it is on the top of your screen. That can be very confusing, original Praetorians does not have this problem. - Achievements. There should be some achievement for completing all missions, and all missions with some challenge, like in hard mode or in hard mode with some…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is a classic RTS that I can easily recommend playing. It is quite fun, has decent strategic depth and the campaign has a lot of cool scenarios. The "not recommended" is purely for the remaster itself - in which they stretched new UVs over the models and called it a day. Fix the pathfinding issues, add description to the troops (can go through forests/water, their strengths, abilities, etc.), smooth out the unit movements, make it easier with construction placement, and then you got a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Praetorians was my first PC game ever, so you know what to expect from this review! The Remastered HD version of this game was a complete surprise to me. I never imagined that the game was so popular back in the day, to the point of developers deciding to make a remaster. When this was announced, I couldn't control my happiness! Speaking about the game, it's just like the old Praetorians! Here you will have everything that the original game had, and you will not struggle with performance,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →*Praetorians – HD Remaster* brings one of the early 2000s’ most distinctive real-time strategy titles back into the modern spotlight, and even two decades later, its identity remains refreshingly different from most RTS games. Rather than centering on resource gathering, sprawling tech trees, or base construction, the game focuses almost entirely on battlefield tactics, unit synergy, and territorial control. Set during the rise of the Roman Empire, it drops you into missions that span the…

I remember literally getting this on an old CD for my 7th birthday and I remember getting really excited to install it on a Pentium III desktop and hoping for the best, only to launch in atrocious lags and flicking white screens. Now that I'm 35... I can finally just log…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't deserve a negative (get on sale), but: - There are missing voice lines in some of the missions, which automatically skips the cutscene. I know the voice acting is terrible in these, but nice "Remaster" you got there kalypso - Needless, ugly kalypso launcher which only serves as their studio news information dump. I'm sorry kalypso I just came here for Praetorians, I shouldn't have to click 'Launch Game' twice
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PROS - Simple combat focused on squad - Simple unit structures and strengths and weaknesses - Elevation benefits for archers is good and realistic CONS - It could be described as too simple - not a lot of tactical decision making or base building. - Not a lot of individualised modifying of units - Unit responsiveness can be sluggish and especially so with the seige units (they are awful to control) - Not a great degree of unit variety
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm 51 yrs old and still an avid player, especially old school games. That being said, one of my all time favorites is Praetorians. Believe it or not been playing this particular game for a long time, 19 yrs to be exact. When Praetorians HD was announced I almost had a heart attack of joy. This game is amazing in all ways, I recommend it to anybody. This game is easy to play and it's fun. Thank you creators of the game.....
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a shame they didn't create any new maps for praetorians. Multi player levels with fort defence and assault would have been an awesome addition.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a pity, that such cool genre is dead...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there is nothing new from original praetorians, its just a same game, but with higher price
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game but Bad Remastered must be purcheased %50
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember when this game came out all the way back when I was in primary school, all the way back, before the Eastern part of the Empire separated it self and made it self into Byzantine empire. So since today running your games off the physical media is almost impossible because of the 32 to 64 bit systems I was happy to find this title and replay it. Good news even doughnut like me can get 100% so you should be able to as well. The point I am trying to make is that the game is pretty…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a tough upvote, and is if strategy isnt' your style I wouldn't bother. Even if it is I would be aware of the enemy AI's abilities. Praetorians is a rough experience that would be acceptable 20 years ago. The Remaster updated the visuals and from what I understand some of the controls, but largely is a rework to make it function on modern PC hardware. On the plus side Praetorians requires you to focus more on the tactics due to minimal economic factors within the game. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's my favourite game. A really fun strategy adventure. Excellent and very playable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been playing Praetorians for almost two decades. The biggest improvement for me, is the AI. It is much more challenging, which I enjoy. Well done.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game which brings back a lot of nostalgia. The campaign is fun and all, yet if you know the basics then you can pretty much steamroll through it. If you prefer a bit more tactical gameplay then you should play it on hard. Besides the main campaign which is lovely, but after playing it once, you'd pretty much seen it all, you'd likely want to go and play some multiplayer or skirmish. Sadly now we're getting to the bad part of the game. Skirmish mode, where the original game did great,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →after 17 years this game is still very fun to play. not much has changed other than graphics which is a bit sad. wished there was skill hot keys and some kind of unit encyclopedia. i mean learning what the units did back then was fun but i dont see people liking that now. For example praetorian unit is the strongest in the game and will beat any other unit 1v1 and yet it has no active skill or the highest hp.... how? why? the answer is in a hidden passive trait which is extremely high damage…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to play this game when I was 8 years old. I had gotten it as a disk from a gamer magazine ('PC Master' gods rest your soul) alongside many other Demos. I had no clue what I was doing (couldn't speak english) but despite that I had gallons of fun. Fast-forward a decade and a half later and a re-discovered this gem. Initially I decided to play it for old time's sake however what I discovered is an actually legit good and challenging tactical RTS that makes you think of your every move.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game play of this game for me is the best game play, pure tactic and strategy without worrying to gather resources. I think if the developer team want to expand and develop this game further, it would be GREAT!!!!. More kind of armies and troops from all over nations during that roman time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great to have this game back! Things that can improve. 1. Unit icons are so small and some units like alike a lot, making it difficult to differenciate. 2. Clothing on units are also very similar, again making it an extra effort to differenciate. 3. There is no longer an icon that lets you see what's inside defense towers, thats kind of annoying. 4. As in the old version, if you have order a unit to stand still, it may decide to wander arounds a few meters if there's any action, sometimes…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty big disappointment overall, there's barely any change from the original game. Guess I had too big expectation when you have game like AoE2 whose Definitive Edition is so amazing in comparison. :s I had great memories from the original but with no real update, this remaster feels incredibly slow and clumsy to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is remastered in 2020, the timing for 4k 120fps, but its still at limited 60fps that disappointing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really great game have been playing since I was young and never got bored, I wish they added more new maps!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Blast from the past, with somewhat modernish graphics. still a good game. fun fact, it was the first ever CD game i bought for pc. nostalgia for me. anyway its a good lil game even today
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having grew up on this game as a kid on my old XP laptop, countless hours played at the weekends! Still love the game and glad it was remastered.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great tactics game. The main attraction is the campaign, where you essentially are trying to outplay the AI positioning on the map and trying to lockpick the battles. Choosing where to engage with what and how wins the battle. Expect woods and highground to have enemies. Scouts are your best friends and the AI will try to snipe them. The historical accuracy is on the same level as in Rome TW 1. Battles are a little different than usual. Units in melee are locked until either side…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game of my childhood. I love the tactical aspect of the game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you wish to bring glory to Rome? Egypt? Or even Gaul? Within an RTS game that's heavily focused on fights and a minimum of resources management, then this is your game! Now with HD remaster!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HI, the game is still great - a bit refreshed wish is nice to see but was expecting a bit more details and clarity on units and maybe new maps ? new civilisation ? this is just a copy of the basic games would be nice to have a newer content to discover new campaigns or even have put egyptian or barbarians campaign would be awesome I love the basic game and its a replica with a refresh that does look good don't get me wrong just expecting better as our video game tech has gone along way (…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super nice and unique game, where Praetorians 2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Two words: Key-Bindings. This game does not have them. You are stuck using a preset control scheme where the camera is controlled using the Arrow Keys and you cannot re-bind action keys. Seriously its 2020, key-rebinding was a thing since Starcraft.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought Praetorians by nostalgia and I don't regret it. The game was great fun when I was a child, it still is in 2021. But I'm also a bit disappointed. I would have love more camera placement options, a better UI and new HD cut scenes. Also, I've experienced some CTD during the "Cold Treason" mission. I feel like the veteran players should stick to the original game with mods.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an old game but ever since it runs on HD it is a gem worth buying for the ancient rome fans like myself. During my hours playing this game there were NO errors and no crashes, this game is very stable and coffee friendly. I have not found any other game out there that looks like this game with its story line, important moments in history, calm music and player friendly since it is not too complicated to play. I wish that there is more of this around, it is really worth your money and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →awesome. old school
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GAME IS GREAT,once you get passed the learning curve! TUTORIAL: I believe an audio tutorial would be great! How to improve: Get a voice talent to instruct the entire tutorial. This could easily be implemented with some instruction avatar, that explains each lesson or objective. Label your tutorial with actual objective listings under the lore paragraph. NPC: Villager generation rate been increased or cost of units decreased. Unit production times too long for anything over scout. Enemies…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a real nostalgic strategy game that focuses entirely on field tactics, land advantage and unit harmony (with their formations) without the stress of building the whole camp or village, etc. Also, you may need to think like a Praetorian to do your thing on the battlefield, which is good!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game, which I played over 15 years ago, left an indelible impression on me. Despite its isometric and seemingly primitive design by modern standards, it's incredibly addictive and brings immense joy. It's a shame games like this aren't made anymore. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't experienced it! 🎮🕹️👾

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember playing this game when i was little. Found it again after like 20 years on HD remaster and i loved it, brought back memories. Fun game, pretty unique RTS in my experience.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, no mattter how quirky it is. However, it would be nice to be able to expand the unit limit. 500 is not nearly enough.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good quality and easy to use
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Childhood classic and a pretty enjoyable RTS
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The controls of the game are quite bad, mainly the visibility and unit management on forests...I returned it back after playing a couple of scenarios.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →changing the game resolution breaks the game permanently and causes it to crash at launch
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very different, but very nice RTS video game in remaster!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game and so very addictive - particularly when you're chasing the 'zero losses' game. The only reason I don't have 1,000 hours is total RPI on my mouse hand!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fast paced strategy game with enough "room" for trying out different tactics .
