What people are saying
Mixed reception: praised for co-op and art, criticised for repetitive combat and balance.
Many players enjoy the co-op experience and charming art style, with some calling it a fun game to play with friends. However, others find the combat repetitive and unbalanced, with stunlocking and grind issues. [1][2][11][15][20][28]
The game is often compared unfavorably to Castle Crashers, with critics calling it a simpler or worse version. Some players note that solo play is particularly frustrating, while co-op mitigates some issues. [24][25][32][15]

60 of 191 · most liked firstPros: Good music, beautiful animation, the ability to play with a friend. Cons: boring gameplay, to kill the enemy you need to spam only one attack button, and to kill the boss you need to press faster and that's it. I would like the game to have a better level-up system and hero attacks. Overall, I liked the game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I meanwhile can see that I’m kind of repeating myself in my reviews, but upfront, this is actually again rather another neutral review that tipped my personal scales into this direction in the end, not a downright negative one. To be fair, I really would like to explain this, but oh boy, where should I start, mixed emotions all over the place. I mean, the basic premise, a coop 2D brawler for up to 4 players with quite a few characters, all with their own different skill set that you can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My Playtime: 11.2h (100% achievement, finished the game) Grindy Achievement(s): Yes (~8 achievements). Optional Achievement(s): Yes (~20 achievements). Difficult Achievement(s): No. Intro Paw Paw Paw is a side scroller beat 'em up that supports up to 4 players locally. It doesn't have an online co-op, but it does have remote play for online capabilities. It has 3 modes in total with 30 levels in the story mode. Pros: - A lot of characters to choose from with different skills and stats -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love and hate this game. It doesn't play like I expected it to, which would be like Castle Crashers. Why? Because after playing that game, every hack-and-slash game gets compared to it. It was pure gold. Anyway, Some characters are a complete joke until you level them up a bunch. Others are absolutely strong right from the start and only get better. The way it handles a number of mechanics are so weird. Healing is basically mostly just Health Potions. Food you pick up? Currency. You're…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had fun playing this game, but not because the game is good, but because I enjoyed the company of my friends and siblings. Honestly, the game has many issues in my opinion: * Extremely grindy for a local co-op pve game. You'll need to stick to one character and grind multiple times through the missions to be able to level it up and experience it to its fullest. * The noticeable difference between the balance of the characters. I was lucky I picked up a ranged character in the beginning, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paw paw paw is an interesting adventure game with high-quality implementation, a large number of modifications, intense bloody battles, amazing storytelling. I definitely recommend this game! Her style, music, mechanics are wonderful. There is always a possibility to change clothes to add variety to the routine at any stage of the game. Skins, twitch drops and gifts should be brought to a separate corner of my soul. Everything is perfect in it: from gorgeous soundtracks, to excellent battles…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are very few games that I've abandoned without finishing them, this is one of them. The game looks cute and all, but sadly it's the worst beat 'em up I've ever played. The main problems with this game are its awful stunlock-based combat system, and its complete lack of balance. The game has almost no i-frames whatsoever, they only exist during the rolling/dodging animation. The thing is, all enemy attacks are stunlocking combos, and the vast majority of them were able to permanently…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What is balancing? Baby don't hurt me. Sure I can fight one of the later bosses that looking at steam achievements less than 7% of the players have beaten, with one of the first weapons I received in the game, since all later ones weren't better. Sure I can kill the many enemies surrounding the boss so the fight is fair in numbers. Sure I can dodge all attacks until 75% of the bosses HP are down, to then be staggered by him and lose my remaining 80% of HP in one continuing attack. And sure I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →+ beat-em-up, fun short games + nice art style - repetitive gameplay, music, weird balancing issues - need more responsive fighting, gameplay loop - not great as a single player experience pick it up if it's a buck or you want a fun game for kids
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Animations are sloppy and controls are loose, music is super weirdly out of place. Most of the game is played grinding against meh characters waiting to get enough upgrades to finally make the game progress at a bearable speed. That said, this game is obviously made to play with friends and not solo. reminds my of crappy flash games you would find on kongregate or newgrounds years ago. meh gameplay and bad character models traded in for a semi-cute aesthetic.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’ve had a fine old time with this. I’ve carried on playing for far longer than I’d planned, and am about to carry on playing once I’ve finished writing this. Which is a useful reminder that it’s important not to dismiss games because they do what other games have done a lot, especially when they do it this nicely. Also, to remember that storylines based around the enforced wearing of trousers are always welcome.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is unbearable to play alone especially towards the end when mobs can stun lock you with a 3-5 sec stun.. you can only just put down your controller and wait to die at that point..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I have to not recommend this game. So will give you the gist of the game. This is Castle Crashers but a very dumbed-down version. You have tiers of weapons which you would think would be great but it isn't since different tiers might mean nothing, I can't really go into full detail but here is the pros and cons. Pros: Beautiful looking Smooth controls ... Can't really think of anything else. Cons: Stupid Chests: A single chest can take more than 36 HITS before it will open. At the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Discount Castle Crashers. Same basic concept, but with less depth, and Castle Crashers wasn't a deep game to begin with. I quickly learned to stop trying for combos and just smash a single button because that would perma-stagger enemies and lead to the most efficient win. The super moves are a nice addition but I still uninstalled before completing. If you want a dumb buttonsmasher this could scratch that itch, but that's all I'd recommend it for.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so imbalanced and badly designed that if you havent grinded for hours upon hours to be max level, the game is going to stuff a spike up your ass over and over. Even if you do the enemies do so much ungodly damage, cant be staggered, and will keep you stunlocked till you die
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No, I simply cannot recommend this game. It has nice cute levels and a nice gameplay, but the effin combat mechanics are simply ATTROCIOUS. Lets get the bad parts out of the way: - loot chests have boss tier HP. Why? I have no idea why - the game is tilted to give items for all the other classes except yours. If you play a certain class and defeat a boss, high chance that it will drop items for the other characters. Thus, you need to farm like crazy if you want to have a chance for later levels…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, I'm right on the fence on this one, but honestly, I just don't feel like I would recommend this one to my friends. This review is based on a solo playthrough, which doesn't seem like the ideal way to play this, to be honest. The good: Difficulty levels, though "easy" was still a bit too hard for me by the end. The meh: Playing with the archer seemed inordinately OP. So of course I played it. The graphics aren't bad for an indie game, but they aren't exactly setting the world on fire.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute idea and art but far too simple to remain interesting for long and gets repetitive and monotonous very quickly. It's a much simpler take on "Castle Crashers" with animals. I would have pressed on a little further but I got to a level that was shaking SO badly that it actually gave me a headache and I've never gotten a headache from shaking or flashing colors from a videogame before... There should be a setting to turn it down because holy crap it was insane. Even chat was saying it was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not worth a purchase. Very simplistic, uninteresting, and unsatisfying beat-em-up. Not much different from any random free flash game, might as well play one of those instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Verdict: Not recommended. The game is repetitive, uninspired, and boring. Get Castle Crashers instead since that game is better in every way. + Steam trading cards (3 drop, 5 to make a badge) Steam achievements (39, require co-op, full playthrough, and quite a lot of grind) 8 characters (4 categories - 2h fighter, 1h + shield, dual wielder, and bow) - 4 are from the beginning and the rest are story unlocks Small download size (216 Mb) Local co-op (apparently up to 4 players) Besides…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →simply amazing on the surface level it just looks like a decent fighting game with a quirky art style and cute animals but if you look into the deeper lore of the game it really dives into the sad cruel reality of nature and the food chain with poachers trying to kill out their race with over looming threat of commercialization and deforestation threatening the lifes of every being in the forest leaving you with new thoughts on the world around us
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hit detection is wonky. You can clear some stages by keeping one enemy alive and running through it. Breakables on the stage sometimes take around 8 hits for some characters to destroy. You can clear waves of enemies by spamming one combo. Jump, Attack, Attack 2. The animations are on par with flash games from 10 years ago. You don't get exp or level up until after the level is over or you die, so there is no real progression until you have to restart. Dialogue has such gems as: "Move out of…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Paw Paw Paw is a medicore, console ported furry friendly arcade brawler from a developer with somewhat questionable ethics (See below). But first, about the game. This is a pretty badly done arcade brawler, think of it as a ripoff of games like Golden Axe or Double Dragon, only much worse, and with furries. The plot involves around the king driven mad requiring all the furries to wear pants, which they don't like, so we can only wonder at the mental state of the developer as they came up…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basically a really bad Castle Crasher
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 CCCC Crappy Castle Crashers Clone it does have some interesting gameplay aspects, but its ruined by others + mounts + push the payload level, it was fun - Music - Combat, and it hardly evolves… - Item usage system, swapping is awful
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Are you searching for a game that is a slower, less fun, less witty Castle Crashers? Then you have come to the right place!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →0.2 hours and reviewed? Yup. Guarantee I spent more time on the review, and this review was the ONLY enjoyable part. I pity anybody who bought this game, but hopefully it took them less than two hours to see it was complete manure and refund it. I can see why it was bundled into Humble with all the other crap. No, I am not checking "received product for free" because I pay for Humble and even at 1/12 of the $12 monthly fee this game still feels like a rip-off. First 10 seconds were me…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An uninspired Flash-game quality beat-em-up. The fighting is beyond repetitive and shallow. The music is awful. The art and character design is boring. The story is braindead. Ain't even worth a buck.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I feel I have played enough to make a fair assessment of this. Please note this review is based off a single player experience, it may be more enjoyable with multiple players. at first I was having fun, then I got to the encampment and recruited my companion... this is where I discovered companion AI is absolutely terrible, the first mission I had was to push the explosive cart back to the enemy camp, I was a warrior so I had recruited a bow user... my all so helpful companion then camped the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game where you fight as part of the resistance that is against wearing pants? Seemed right down my alley! Unfortunately, the gameplay feels super clunky and it just isn't that much fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't say I recommend this one. The combat is just a bit off. The hits don't feel satisfying and the targeting seems slightly off. I played the first few levels as multiple different classes and none of them felt any better. It's not terrible, but it gives a strong impression that if I gave it a solid chance and invested my time into it, I would be rewarded only with mediocrity. There are much better games on the market. This just isn't worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- I picked one class and the drops are only for the other classes. I manage to get ONE new weapon after 6.2 hours because I bought it and clicked on "Like Us" button. - Boss fight difficulty arise from so many enemies surrounding you, that you can even see the telegraphed enemie's movements. - Dodge/roll that don't dodge nor avoid hits. - After a boss combo lands, you are on the floor with 5 enemies and the boss itself ready to hit you again as soon as you stand again (and you can't dodge,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played for .7 hours, and it made me feel like I wasted 3 hours of my life. It was extremely boring, and it made me want to play Castle Crashers, so I did.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was fun for awhile, a bit silly and pretty easy to get into but it starts getting repetitive and what finally made me write a review, the fight at the bunny king is long and just plain stupid against an over powered opponent.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love beat em' ups, but this is the worst one I've played in a long, long time. Flash graphics, furry theme, non-technical grind fest combat... Who thought any of this was a good idea? I'm pretty sure this is mobile port with the microtransactions ripped out, but honestly I don't even care enough to research it. The game is tuned for 4 player co-op, as you will be swarmed by braindead mobs from every direction unceasingly, but good luck finding 3 people willing to sleepwalk through…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really, really wanted to give this game a good shot. It started off promising. An amusing story, similar to Castle Crashers, furries, a funny name for my steam friends to see? Sign me up! Sadly, though, even on the easiest difficulty setting, a lot of things just felt... off. Everything felt like a slog, even on the games easiest difficulty. As someone who's playing through this solo, I feel that nothing was designed, or tuned down, for solo play. Here are some things I noticed in my few…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So first of all, I got this game in a Humble Bundle, I don't think I'd have played it otherwise. Now, it's not a particularly good game. For example the endless mode never ups the difficulty. I got to 1000 kills before I gave up and let my character die. With a level 20 guardian you can pretty much crush this mode with no real danger of losing. The story mode was fun and short. The cut scenes can be painful. For example, the last boss has several stages and in between each stage you have to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, Im sad to say but it doesnt feel good to play Looks like castle crashers plays like .. not as good. It feels very meh and thats why I dropped it so quickly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game started out pretty great. I was laughing at the intro, eager to get started, but the moment the game starts it all starts feeling very wonky. The fighting-mechanics are mediocre, but honestly, what truly kills this game for me is a thing that you don't notice until it is actually not great: the sound. Hits are unsatisfying, the music does not fit, and the scenery feels dead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like Castle Crashers but in trashy. Movement is trash, enemies are bizarre and trash on top and of course, the progression system is confusing and the player is let to hope, that there is more, while there most likely isn't.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was hoping it would be like castle crashers and the game really delivered. The difficulty is perfect, you have a few tricky situations, but it doesn't break the experience. Played the whole story in local co-op in about 10 hours, and we had a really good experience. Since local co-op games are hard to find this is much appreciated and I will be playing this with people many more times. Definitely recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is a bit challenging to play solo, but it is still fun. I think it is better for developer to add difficulty level. The music and style are gorgeous, and the game also has many characters and weapons.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't played beat em up games in quite a few years and thought it's finally time to jump into one again. To my sights came Paw Paw Paw, which right from the start got me hooked with it's slick animations and weird / funny short storyline. You start up the game really quick by quickly going into through the tutorial phase and right into battle. What makes this game really fun are the RPG mechanics that are present which allow you to level up your character of choice, acquire new items and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good game :) very fun although there are some dramatic skill curves
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfair combat (in single player). Enemies knock you down once and you are stun locked in the animation until death. Not only that, but the enemies have no tell for when they are about to attack. So you end up just rolling around and hitting them... but you can't stunlock them either, not really, so you just pray they die before you do. You can level up to increase your damage... by beating the same level over and over and over and over.... and over.... Grindy, jank mess of a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another game where the art has nothing to do with the graphics, disappointing, boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slightly soulish beat em up due to clunky attack speeds for your characters. Enemies have weird hitboxes but nonetheless good couch game to pick up to play with friends. Not recommended to play solo.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Art is ok, but unresponsive combat, repetative gameplay and music that gets annoying in 5 minutes (it's only one song) are all horrible. I don't know how a 'school project quality' game can get so many likes. I would avoid this completely.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too casual for me, not interesting/fun enough to keep me playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Play castle crashers instead. Poor balance, broken AI, super grindy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No idea how this gets very positive. The combat is clunky and the difficulty is ridiculous. I as looking for a fun game toplay with friends but refunded after dying repeatedly on an early level.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why would you not have online multiplayer for your coop beat em up?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Anything this game can do, other games do better. Combat is weak (my attacks regularly didn't connect when I appeared to be level with the enemies), stats aren't explained (what does stamina do? How does strength tie into my damage?), and to top it all off, after I lost to the first boss and retried the area, the game thought I'd already beaten it and didn't spawn it again. I got this through Humble Choice, so not much lost there, but definitely don't pay even the promotional cost for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm one of those people who don't really care about the audio design in games. I play on crappy headphones, and when I started playing games 20 years ago I had no speakers for years and I didn't really care. That being said... Audio design in Paw Paw Paw is utterly, unbelivabely ♥♥♥♥ and makes in ubearable to play. From the opening narration, where the voice actress CLEARLY didn't get the tone she was supposed to be aiming at, to the mind-numbingly repetetive and out of place combat music…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another one mediocre repetitive hack n' slash thing...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I admit I have to adapt longer to the controls at first, but it turns quite well and when you're feeling it, it turned out great. The hitbox on the enemies kinda tricky in my opinion especially if you're using ranged characters (at least from my experience, perhaps it's just me with my hit and miss attacks at first.), the only thing i'm worrying is the boss. Sometimes the boss is just standing and staring so I can get spamming arrows. I don't know if this is a bug that should to be fixed or…
