The puzzles are simple but fun, the stages offer many different opportunities to use your abilities, and the dark setting of the game adds a nice touch. It's short but relaxing and another great score for cheap!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has a good premise, and the game itself is quite pretty and thematic. The platforming is fun, your ability to turn parts of the level into warp strips, jump pads, etc., are all really neat. Jumping is kind of floaty, but it's serviceable. But this game gets a 'no' recommend from me entirely due to the game's wonky way of moving along the level. Each screen is static, so rather than the camera being pinned to your character, it's pinned to environment. Hit the edge of the screen, there's a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nihilumbra is a free mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a paid product, as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This mobile app is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. It's a puzzle platformer, it's plodding and slow, with an uninteresting high school art class theme that will be quick to deter serious PC gamers. It's no wonder this was more…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Underrated indie game.. maybe graphics and gameplay looks clanky but game design is cool with those colors and "abilities" also story is too deep that you will understand when you get to (near) the end of the game. Cool short little game. Very recommending this indie puzzle/platformer game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll be honest, I don't understand all the good reviews for this game. Maybe its just not my thing, but I found this so horribly bad and unpleasant. Reminder: below is my opinion, you can like whatever garbage you want :) *yes I'm combative after this experience* The voice acting is just awful, but the script is even worse. If you enjoy being spoken to like a toddler for hours and told the same things over and over again, A+. The narrative story telling just grates on and on, giving you no…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very deep game about existing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is for a different kind of a player than the average modern gamer, it reminds me a lot of the clumsily put together games of the 2000's. It's slow, the message confusing and writing laughable at times, but the background art direction is nice, sprite work solid and music fine, if repetitive. I do not understand the reason symphonic cover for the main theme unlocks only with beating the story mode. That surprised me in a weird way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are looking for boring and very casual puzzles you should buy this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a simple but interesting puzzle-platformer. Some parts can be frustrating, especially when you get stuck, but figuring things out is fun. 👁️ What I like most are the messages that appear during the game. Some are kind of rage bait and criticize you, but others are meaningful and can teach or motivate you. Overall, it's fun little game with some good messages. 🌌
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very complete and holistic game. Beautifully designed, quite forgiving in the story mode, probably a little naive with its message... it is nonetheless shares a kind perspective and gives you something.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this a decade ago because I liked the idea of playing a little shadow creature and the melancholic theme appealed to me. However, after going through most of the second/forest zone, I just cannot get into this game. The puzzles are far too simple, the camera is irritating, and everything the narrator constantly drones on about feels so painfully banal. I wish the game showed more and told less. Just play LIMBO or INSIDE. Also, I am surprised the reviews are so positive. I guess I am…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game many years ago on my phone and loved it. Picked it up again on PC and it is still as good as I remember. A beautiful blend of story and puzzle game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game ages very well; The character is super cute and it has an amazing art and music/SFX! Loved the story and the puzzles (some took a bit longer but got the hang of it in no time); Really liked it! Recommend 100%
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first game I ever bought on Steam. I got it because I saw my sister watch a gameplay video and I LOVED the narrator's voice. I enjoyed the story, the locations and the puzzles. Using colors is such a great idea!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nihilumbra is still a good-looking platformer for its age. There are a good amount of levels and it didn't feel repetitive, so the price is okay for me. After you finish the story, you can play through the game again, but on increased difficulty. This is where it really picks up and where you really notice the age of the game. You're more likely to die because of the controls. But since you only have to play this part for achievements, you can ignore it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A successfully eerie, lonely, and sad platformer, whose eerie sci-fi premise speaks to my own inadequacy and the difficulty of escaping a sense of worthlessness that seems to engulf whomever or whatever you come to care about. Gameplaywise, it's been a while- and frankly I can't brush up, because on this laptop of mine, the mouse gets stuck and I can't switch to the game to play proper, a minor heads-up if you, too, are using a non-gaming laptop to try this out. However, the puzzle solving,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nihilumbra is a quiet game. It's got plenty to do, but the puzzles are kept simple for the story. The thematic use of color-powers in a game named after a philosophy of nothing is no coincidence, and I really love how it explores that philosophical side through some soothing narration and fantastic writing. Once you're done with the game, there are harder challenges to face if you enjoy the mechanics, and an extra bonus that warrants a third playthrough all on its own for me. I can imagine…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better than Elden Ring
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nihilumbra is a weird game. I mean that in quite a literal sense - you play as nothing. At least at the start. Allow me to elaborate- In Nihilumbra you play as Born - An entity created from the void, from. Nothing. You are nothing, you are empty. Born takes on the shape of a scarecrow he finds. And the void, missing part of itself, chases you down destroying everything in its wake. The narrator makes sure to drill these concepts into your head at the start. That you are indeed nothing, that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The mechanic using the colors is a good idea, but it just is an awfully boring game with platforming controls that do not feel all that tight. The monsters are super boring and the narrator says things you already know most of the time. And tends to repeat himself. The whole campaign feels like a tutorial. A tutorial with TOO MUCH hand holding, at that. There are just so much better puzzle platformers out there.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely left limp by some of the worst narration I have ever seen in a game. It is insipid. You enter the desert level and the narrator bellows out with gravitas "This place is hot" Main story levels are so basic, feels like I'm playing a 2 hour long tutorial.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't say I enjoyed Nihilumbra, it's not engaging nor challenging. More clunky and simplistic than anything else and as far as being a "puzzle platformer" I'd have to disagree.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was today's years old when I discovered that Nihilumbra is actually a love story. A mysterious being called the Void follows you all the way to the end of the world because it loves you so much that it never wants to let you go. It just wants to hug, kiss, and marry you until the story ends in tragedy and it suddenly doesn't want you anymore because you've run out of money. Life lesson learned: there's no house without a mortgage. But seriously, this game is absolutely worth buying. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You are a voidling that successfully escapes the void into the real world. Now with all these new experiences at your feet, you run for your freedom from the ever encroaching void. An alright little puzzle platformer that has a nice puzzle mechanic to it. The puzzle mechanic is that you gain colors to use on the world around you augmenting movement or abilities. This includes things like faster movement, slower movement, bouncing, etc. You’ll use these colors to traverse the world while…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nihilumbra is a musically & artistically beautiful, puzzle platformer, that has a simplistic story to tell and an equally simplistic control scheme to go along with it. While my time playing this title was short, I found it a charming and visually interesting enough experience to leave it on a positive note. But understand that positive note does come with its own caveats. For one, all my game pad warriors out there be forewarned... this game is just straight up mouse & keyboard . While…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good puzzle platformer. I don't think it's a groundbreaking game or a game that puzzle lovers must play, but if they do, they'd probably enjoy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nihilumbra! It really has the energy of like, an old armor games flash game, but I love it, genuinely. It's very gender, in an esoteric way. It's a puzzle game, but it's really more of a storybook. After you beat the game and learn all the mechanics, the real challenge begins

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →100 / 100 death while trying to beat Pacifist achivement, totaly recomended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely NOT recommended, broken game achievements don't unlock, levels broken and unplayable, horrible controls. Avoid this broken mess, and lazy ♥♥♥♥ dev fix your game if you gonna ask for money.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A puzzle-platformer that reminds me of the good old days of stumbling upon diamonds on Steam like Braid, Limbo, Vessel etc. (I know it is from the same era as these games, but I played it in 2023). Pleasing presentation, solid puzzle design - it really shines in Void mode - and it doesn't overstay its welcome. You really don't get this kind of games that often anymore.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A small hidden gem with simple and not-so-simple puzzles, a interesting story and a beautiful art. I played the game through and enjoyed. Most of time at least. Sometimes I wanted to throw my computer out of the window because I was stuck in a puzzle. Still worth. I'm a huge fan of puzzles and problem solving, but if you aren't you might want to skip this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nihilumbra by BeautiFun Games is a puzzle-platformer that manages to feel both mechanically inventive and emotionally reflective, blending traditional side-scrolling design with a quiet, philosophical narrative. It follows the journey of a being known as Born, who emerges from an all-consuming void and begins moving through a fragmented world while being relentlessly pursued by that same darkness. From the outset, the game establishes a tone that is more contemplative than dramatic, using its…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game from 2013 in a somewhat limbo style about escaping the void and using color powers to interact with the enviroment through a series of puzzles. was pretty fun if a bit fiddly at times. good narrators voice work, artwork and story beats. would recommend,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute masterpiece. I've played this for ~10 years on mobile, it's so nice to finally play it on pc and have better graphics, audio, and less bugs with better controls. Absolute worth every cent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty basic puzzle game that I bought as a child. I didn't enjoy playing it for the 100% but it was easy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent enough little indie platforming game. Mechanics were easy enough to grasp yet offer some complexity, that being said you'll finish this quite fast. Narration and music was top notch, graphical style not my thing but that's personal preference. Would of gotten a 8/10 if it was even possible to play with controller (it's not). 6.5/10 After finishing the game, you unlock the void mode. It's here that the controls sort of start feeling really clunky (mostly cause of the bouncing puzzles).…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loved and had a lot of rage moments with some puzzles in VOID MODE. Recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is ok-ish... but boooring. The gameplay is original and it's nice at the beginning, but becomes repetite very soon. And the obstructive and creepy voice over, with cheap nihilist sentences, doesn't help. Luckily, the game is pretty short.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved this game more than I thought I would since I don't normally go for sidescrollers. Less than halfway done, but the vibes were good so review is here. Well worth the $1 I got it for. Pros: +Melancholic, peaceful soundtrack +Cute character (watch its idle animations) +Beautiful and eerie backgrounds +Puzzles are fairly easy and the game isn't too punishing for failing a puzzle. It's pretty easy to catch on after it gets you once or twice +Very fitting voice acting with a nihilistic, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short and simple platformer that is very easy that isn't doing anything new or unique. Little to no replayability with a 2 hour completion time. A "deep" story that is painfully basic that I would say hardly qualifies as a story at all. Played this on the Steam Deck and it was a bit clunky with the requirement for mouse controls. In addition while the game has Steam OS/Linux support, I was not given any achievements during my playthrough.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 Nihilism and Darkness Nihilumbra is a fun platformer where you obtain five elements, and use them to get through certain parts of levels. The style reminds me of Hollow Knight, A Walk in the Dark, and Limbo. It has a very nice soundtrack and voice acting. A few levels have hard parts, but once you get the hang of it, you can get through them easily. A must-play when it comes to side-scrolling platform games! Niilismo e Escuridão Nihilumbra é um jogo de plataformas divertido onde…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pretty bad attempt at being deep
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not big, cute, interesting puzzle platforming game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slow, simple, and uninteresting. I'm a fan of 2D side-scrollers/platformers (growing up with NES), so I was interested and got this game on a steam sale. I'll list my Pros and Cons now, since for me this game is just very sub-par even for a flash game from the early days of the net (or something you'd find on Newgrounds). Good: Interesting idea of using elements to manipulate your environment. Different colours can help you manipulate the environment to navigate obstacles. Bad: That first…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, sorry to say this, but I enjoyed neither narrative nor gameplay. Couldn't bring myself to finish this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This feels like a game made by a single person who didn't really know how to make a game. The idea is there, but there is no real ability or talent to execute it. Nihilumbra is mostly a puzzle game with some light platforming where you use your mouse to paint textures on the map that change the physics. And it's the most basic version of that. The maps are made in what feels like a level builder that you'd buy from some software and you'd go on to post it for free online somewhere. Everything…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An excellent action puzzle game with a side of existential thought a light horror trappings. My playtime is for the main story mode, but when you win, you unlock Void Mode, which essentially doubles the amount of content. I'll have to come back to finish those later, as they are really tough, but the core puzzle elements are really fun and inventive, and often give you multiple ways to approach a situation. All in all, highly recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unpolished core mechanics, endless hand-holding and attempts to convey a theme with pretentious hollow lines of monologue. Hardly overpriced, it did not deliver on the most basic levels of entertainment, especially when again and again faced with insufferably uninspired lines about our inner selves - though I cannot overlook the competent voice acting. NG+ crystallized the gameplay issues through difficulty; as well as presented brand new mechanics with no introduction. What little money it…
