positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it at quite a big discount and I’m completely satisfied. This is exactly the type of game I needed, crafting, grinding, and the occasional adrenaline rush when I realized I’d left 20 oil canisters in the kitchen right before an inspection came.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only 70% of players have the achievement for finishing the tutorial, and that's the point where the game clearly became very tedious.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mr. Prepper is a side-scrolling survival, crafting, and base-building game set in a dystopian police state. The premise is straightforward: you want to escape, but the secretive government won't let you. To regain your freedom, you must secretly excavate a multi-level underground bunker beneath your house, craft an escape vehicle, and maintain the illusion of a model citizen every time the Inspector comes knocking. Fact: Unlike the bleak moral choices in This War of Mine, your main headache…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wasn't worth the $4 USD I paid for it. Game breaking/game ending bugs still present 4 years later. Discussion forums filled with other examples. Glorified Tablet game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mr. Prepper is the only game where I can spend 90% of my time digging a suspiciously large hole under my house and the other 10% pretending to be a normal, functioning member of society. It’s basically a simulator for living a double life, except instead of being a secret agent, I’m a dude who panic‑hides cabbages every time the inspector knocks. The game starts simple: “Build a bunker,” it says. “Prepare for the end,” it says. Next thing I know, I’m 40 feet underground, building a hydroponic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The kind of game you develop a special itch for that no other game can ever quite scratch. I'm not usually the type to really play post-apocalyptic games, mostly because I find them depressing. But Mr. Prepper does a lot more than similar games I've seen in that it doesn't force you into misery - just awareness. As long as you keep your stuff in order and don't do reckless things, you're just fine. If you start slacking, the government is on your behind faster than you can say "But there's a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dull and forgettable. The story and political setting are meaningless and artless, serving as little more than a thoughtless pretext for a base-builder. The gameplay is grindy, especially during the first several hours; it takes quite a while before you can begin automating certain tasks. To top it off, the base isn't even cozy. A decent concept, but poorly executed. I can't recommend it, and it isn't exactly a quick play, either. Time not very well wasted.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →honestly i thought this would be better. the template is really good and the building is better, the the problem that i have is how stone face boring this is. and no matter how much i force myself to play this game. it sucks. 1/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was really enjoying the game for a while, but the further in you get the more it turns into a grind that sucks any fun out playing it. Some of the late game resource gates feel like transparent padding. This is made worse by problems with the UI and combat system. The UI is often cumbersome, and the crafting UI is terrible (there are four separate sub menus for crafting, plus four for cooking. Each of these menus uses a small fraction of the screen despite having enormous crafting icons and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has all the basics. Basic Base Building Basic Fighting Basic Resources Managment Basic Crafting Basic Survival The issue is, all its just basic. The story is, neat not bad but not great. I had started the game like 3 times new since i had got it in idk 2019 or somthing like that because everythime i lost intereset in playing it. Now i have got throught it. Still... it would be such great game if: - The Core Bunker Building was not such a basic building system. You can not even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No idea what this game was trying to do, but it requested Admin Tool access.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is a buggy mess. Save files randomly nuke themselves, inventory will edit itself across other saves so you can't roll back, random world tasks will occasionally undo themselves. Not worth the effort tbh. Devs have most likely checked out anyway.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just really grindy i played a long time ago but didnt end up making this review, but feel like i should now since i remembered it it was kind of fun in the early game but by the end it just gets more grindy than i think its worth Buy on sale, if at all
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool concept but clunky. Needs QoL upgrades like cooking straight from the oven if the fridge is nearby, combining rooms after they're built, better tutorial, and reducing other tedious game mechanics.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My computer NEVER crash... Very stable rig, can run high end games like Space Marine 2 easily... But Mr. Prepper... It crashed, completely froze the machine 4 times ... During the tutorial!!!!!!! For this reason, I can't recommand the game... I know I know... I could have tried to trouble shoot... But I dont care anymore! If the devs of a game can't get it right, I dont want to spend time trying to fix their mistakes. Refund request in the following hour. I have too many unplayed games…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's honestly just an okay game. Stylistically this plays a lot like This War of Mine, but the UX is not nearly as well refined. Crafting and building feels cumbersome, with little oddities that just make the game feel unpolished. Resource gathering is just boring, and the fact you can't zoom out when outside the house makes navigating locations feel like an old-school point and click adventure (and not in a good way). As others mention, the time scaling is too high, especially with just how…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ui is absolutely horrible. optimization is horrible. gameplay and productivity are incredibly slow. janky. trying to disassemble something and if you accidentally hover your mouse over another object it selects that object. so instead of clicking on something then going down to disassemble you have to avoid every other object in your inventory. i like the idea but the ui is more like a mobile game than a pc game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot reccomoned this game its grindy, loopy soup. Takes forever to get going and once you are game becomes fun finally to why am I playing this fast. The bunker building is basically meaningless which I realised 30 hours in and farming or raising animals just becomes an endless loop. Story wise..... no idea, was there a story?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Positives: - interesting theme - getting new recipes and crafting is fun Cons - really bad UI without shortcut for most often used operations - story can stall and has only one way to solve it, so if you missed a small part somewhere you have no idea where or what to search for (example; raised relations with neighbours to max, but didn't solve the quest to get their approval .. ) - a lot of repetitive actions and losing time walking from place to place - cannot deconstruct multiple large…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A missed apportunity to make a sequel name Dr. Prepper
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The developer of this game misleads people into thinking this game is about a nuclear bomb and surviving it. This game leads you in that direction but it's literally the opposite. You escape in a rocket, leaving all your work behind, end game? There is no prepping needed. Trash game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →UI sucks, gameplay is awkward, tutorial is pain, the amount of time a click wouldn't register is frustrating. Couldn't even start the actual game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is gonna be lengthy, and contain spoilers, but I've hidden the most important ones. Now, you see, this game has a mechanic where the "law" says what you can have and what not. They even give you a checklist on first inspection in the tutorial. But: woe is me, the game has more forbidden things than given in the official checklist! Luckily, the game shows those things when you "inspect" a thing. Chicken? 0-2 are ok. Chicks? 0-3 are ok. Nothing of that on the checklist, but well, the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →needs a way to save mid day other than trying to travel somewhere. three times now I've tried to re-do my base, spent over an hour moving ♥♥♥♥ around in this inventory management hellish nightmare, only for the game to freeze when trying to leave my house, thus erasing all that progress. not bothering again, the game has no excuse for poor performance, especially given how long its been out.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun in the beginning but slows down to a crawl once you hit the progression wall and have to slowly grind money for materials to fix the inflated requirements to repair EVERYTHING
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cool game Reminds me of Fallout shelter a bit. But Mr.Prepper require more user input and has more activities thus making the gameplay more rich, fun and interesting. Looking forward to see Mr.Prepper 2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like many others already reviewed, its missing alot of QoL features. And it is extremely tedious. The controls feel clunky and not responsive and everything seems to happen in slo-mo. Yet the settings seems to be fun but the "feel" of the game is somehow missing. Also below 70% finishing the tutorial is pretty telling. Definately get this on sale only.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Desperately needs some quality of life improvements. There's no reason not to run during all movement. Menus are clunky and do not pause time so you can waste a lot of time looking at them. I can't make trades if there's something in the mailbox that I can't take out (inventory full/overweight). Each day is short, half of it is spent napping, and there's a long loading screen in between days. I didn't make it very far before setting this down. Could be a good game if they took the time to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Whenever I play Mr prepper steam goes crazy and try’s to log off and email change
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →thought it would be more fun, got bored after 15 or so minutes, feels clunky, not as interesting as I thought it would be, overall meh
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its pretty nice and long. Its not too hard and not too stale, just a bit slow. But i have two major problems, that really killed my mood. First the radio signal, In the glasses for bob you had at least a little clue of where to get it, but that you seperately have to use the antenna was really making me angry. Also the thing with the AI core. All the time you had to interact with things to complete them, but only here you have to manually grab it and drag it to the core base. This really made…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game keeps over heating my graphics card and it shuts the game down not even running it at high spec gpu hits 60' degrees and craps out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend this game. The game is not optimized so it's way to demanding given the basic nature of the gameplay. The UI is very clunky and not user friendly. Can't make shortcuts for actions. Lots of time just walking around to do different tasks. This normally wouldn't be an issue but the character has the endurance of a preschooler so they get fussy if they don't have a nap everyday. Yes, I'm serious about the need for a daily nap. Every aspect of this game is extremely basic. This…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the game can be a bit of a slog in the beginning, Mr Prepper offers a lot that provides a very entertaining experience. While I did not play the base vanilla version on its own, the DLC helps make your bunker almost entirely self sustaining. My only remaining hopes for the future DLCs (what few there still are) would be the ability to bring trusted members into the bunker that provide assistance, more decoration items and the ability to upgrade materials, like beds/couches being improved…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I took a nap, for today i was set on a TD bender! and boy was i kicking butt too, until i realised the gov, was at the front door... /sigh.. ... A brilliant game. Truly a diamond in the rough. i ignored it for some time thinking it would be shallow, a lot of these types are but Mr Prepper, is well made, it has character and depth. above and beyond and it's all nicely interwoven, with some flair. A great management game. ..Managing time is clever. Trade is fun, it's rewarding. Construction's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The whole paranoid bunker-building under a totalitarian regime is such a strong hook. Early on, the vibe and story really pull you in. Managing your shelter while pretending to be a loyal citizen is genuinely cool. But the time system is brutal. A simple walk across the house eats half your day. Try crafting, exploring, and keeping the inspector happy and suddenly you’ve accomplished nothing. It quickly turns into a grind fest with questionable balance and some janky combat. Great idea but way…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first, I wasn't sure of what to make of this one. Could a game be fun if it was pretty much only the base-building section of X-COM 2? And my initial impression wasn't favorable: it seemed to have all of the downsides of a slow, dull farming game with all of the downsides of a game where the combat is basically "spam the attack button". And as I got out of the early game and realized that sooner or later, I was going to have to farm AND go to the mine AND go to the forest every day or most…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game on Mac does not run by the time you get to the farm. Avoid for mac.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Linear game. A lot of grinding. Little to no replayability. And of course bugs. Right at the end of the game I get to the fort and it says leave all my stuff in the box. My inventory is empty, even stuff equipped is empty. Keep clicking on the computer with the same answer. Can't enter the fort. So I'm definitely not recommending a game I cannot even complete.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think I played for 5 minutes and the "Uhh, aaah" sounds the guy makes with every interaction makes me wish I had rather spend my money on 2-3 beers instead of this game. The game gave me an achievement for starting a game...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely clunky game. Even removing food from the fridge was such an unintuitive challenge, I decided to uninstall the game instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Two paragraphs - first positive, second negative (negative in quotes maybe, just a couple minor gripes) Very good overall. My 26.7 hrs was one full run on normal. I would say it's worth the full $20, and if it's on sale for less even better. Have not bought either DLC. I am not a speedrunner but I could see this one being particularly enjoyable for those folks since there is lots of room for optimizing and not a ton of RNG. Very pretty level design, it is mostly 2D but there is some 3D…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little bunker building game. No real desire to go back and get the speed run or year long survival achievements but I enjoyed a playthrough. Bonus points that you can decorate walls with your own images, more games need to do cool stuff like that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty jank interface. Collecting is tedious. Was gonna refund, but got it on a deep discount. Might play again off and on.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really grindy, doesn't respect your time. Game for the people who have too much time or a special interest to this subject. Don't buy unless on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What was the point of building a nuclear shelter if we never actually get to use it to survive a nuclear attack? I was expecting the final part of the game to be about surviving underground in the bunker we'd spent the whole game preparing. That would have made all that grinding and preparation feel worthwhile. Instead, we just leave everything behind and fly away in a rocket. Such a missed opportunity.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very slow the load, I have several games I play on Steam with high end graphics and they do not lag when loading. I purchased the DLCs and think they take away from the game. Getting the dog is a nuisance, maybe delay gifting the dog.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoy base building, grinding for resources and advancing through tech tiers, Mr. Prepper is a perfectly fine game. However, it's far from perfect, combat is very boring and clunky, the grind can be quite boring as there's not much variety of things to do in the base game, days feel awfully short so you're going back and forth to bed quite often... Nevertheless, if you think you'd enjoy it, you probably will.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a gem of a game. Micromanagement, survival, scavenging, building loops all entwined in a very pleasant and compelling experience. What seems on the surface pretty simple has a wonderful charm to it. Great quirky character cast too. The devs captured this strange retro timeline in such a superb manner. I rarely finish games these days but I'm glad to say this held my attention all the way through. Thoroughly recommended.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game's progression is very challenging, and honestly extremely annoying. Even on the easiest setting, it is still incredibly difficult to progress. The game is a bit too grindy and it honestly takes way too much time to play. I like the games lore, and the things in it, but the progression system is too annoying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The tutorial is God Awful.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Within the first minute (!) you are already pestered with communist propaganda, insinuating that the current president/government of the USA is in some way fascist or dictatorial and in a way dangerous enough that the situation warrants preperation for the worst. When the actual danger is coming from communism/socialism and islamism. And that is actually how the game plays - it is VERY reminiscent of the former German "Democratic" Republic which was a SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST FASCIST state. People…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Piece of Anti-American propaganda packaged as a game made by dumb Poles.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a fun game, very reminiscent of Fallout Shelter in some ways. Some parts are pretty unpolished - I had some bugs, two of which were game breaking and forced me to start a new game which was tedious, most of which were just mildly annoying. The story is cute, enough to give you some motivation and the end had me hooked for some sort of sequel. Overall a fun game to get addicted to for a few days.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wake up, check the mail, have a nap, eat breakfast, water the plants, have a nap. Stroll out in the woods, collect blueberries and twigs. Have a nap. "Normal" mode is being able to do one or two meaningful things and having to reset at home with a nap. It's ridiculous. - Edit: yeah the constant need for naps for the big baby is annoying for me, I just don't care for it. The base building, exploration, and goofy story seem pretty fun though so I'm giving it a thumbs up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tl;dr It gave me joy. With some balancing and pacing tweaks, it could’ve been great. I assume the DLCs add a lot too, but let's not encourage that kind of post-launch “improvement.” Review Mr. Prepper is fun enough — the kind of game that hooks you for a while before you realize you’ve been doing the same three things for hours. The start is slow, but before long you’re swimming in near-infinite resources. Eventually, the “gameplay” becomes waiting for traders to restock the one thing you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →what a confusing hot mess try harder
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For fans of the indie genre, this game offers a unique experience. At later stages, it does become somewhat repetitive and boring, but overall it’s still a pretty good game. The Farm DLC is decent too, though even without it the experience feels complete.
