60 of 178 · most liked firstI have played a lot... a LOT of gladiator-like games. Swords and Sandals. Sands of the Coliseum. Domina. And so on! I have played so many of these games because I'm kind of obsessed with them. I love the idea of fighting in gladiatorial matches. I love how many of these games feature RPG systems for upgrading your characters, and so on. I say this because, despite it's flaws, few and far between they be, Mortal Glory is by far my most favorite of any of the games I've played. It's also getting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game has 1 to many problems to recommend. Da Bad: No zone of control. There is no way to protect your weaker units. Creating a speed heavy meta where you have to kill all of them before they get to move, or you loose units. There are abilities which can sort of limit enemy movement... But they are so weak and late game mages are so unbelievably over tuned that they genuinely don't matter. Which would be fine, except the enemy teams do not play by the same rules as the player. Ai teams are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I went for 100% and I don't think I'd recommend anyone else do the same. It's fun in the early stages but as you play more it starts to get rather repetitive. Without writing an essay, many of the game mechanics push you towards a very limited set of builds to be reliably successful, and executing on those strategies (getting the right units, skills, gear, and other progress) is very dependent on RNG. Expect a lot of restarts to reach higher glory levels. I didn't even bother going past glory 5…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →there really isnt enough content here. Its very basic, with limited replay value. random difficulty isnt replay value. And there is really almost no tactical depth, not rock paper scissor but just rock paper..
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mortal Glory is probably my second favourite gladiator style game, next to Domina. It's a simple, straightforward roguelite where you recruit gladiators, equip them, send them into battle and wrangle with the various events and schemes set to put you behind or take you down before you challenge the champs. And god, it's so satisfying! There's a ton of races and perks that make each gladiator unique, along with the stats they get rolled with. They eventually get titles by proving themselves in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Game. Just a nice little time waster, and my go-to for an hour of guaranteed fun, however groan-inducingly hard it is. Truly recommend for people who played swords and sandals on flash growing up, as it's very reminiscent of those games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My background: I come from Tales of Maj'Eyal, boardgames and other games with classes and skills. I also like randomness in games, such as random loot etc, and I love indies and I don't want my review to lessen the enthusiasm of the nice developers or of players! My problems: The game does not have much in terms of construction around a class or race ; it is really more like a collection of random traits and equipment that you combine with the target of making quick matches. So it is fitting…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an unofficial successor to the classical "Areena"-series. A freeware game series from the 90's (and 00's), that many Finnish gamers look back on with rosy nostalgia. It's no surprise that the game developer is also Finnish. If you want a free "demo" of sorts, I recommend downloading the original Areena 5 or if your Finnish isn't that great -probably the most of you :D to try out the, in my opinion, somewhat inferior "Areena 7" online. Mortal Glory brings some new aspects to the game.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too easy. Too short. The heavy emphasis on RNG does not increase increase difficulty or add variety like it should. Instead it just adds tedium.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mortal Glory has meaningful tactics with a gentle learning curve. What it lacks is tedium. These fights go fast, and when you're not caving in skulls, you've got a bit of light shopping to set yourself up for success. No deep intricacies here. Just kill and keep moving. If you find Mortal Glory too easy, you can make use of its challenge toggles along with the additional Glory ranks (think Slay the Spire Ascension). Alternatively, there's a Relaxed difficulty for an easier time, though I don't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game! For the price, this game is a true gem; I've had more fun with this than some triple A $60 titles. For anyone that enjoys turn-based strategy, this game is going to be a great time. In some ways, Mortal Glory is a lot like a Roman gladiator version of FTL as it has random events, party member upgrades, a stat upgrade system, etc. I would also recommend this game to anyone who enjoys miniatures skirmish games such as Kings of War: Vanguard, Warcry, Arena Rex, or Warhammer…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh my goodness, this is so addictive, finally something that scratches my tactics and management itch. Thank you for making this charming rogue-lite !
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mortal Glory is a game that I have had my eye on for a while now. I am not sure why I hadn't picked it up before. It certainly wasn't due to the price point, which is a steal. As someone that rather enjoys playing ASCII Roguelike games like Nethack and Angband as well as the Ascii and Tile versions of DCSS, graphics don't matter a bunch to me either, so it wasn't an issue there. I think it just was one of those games that I always planned to throw in along with another purchase and kept…

unlabelledView post →TLDR: A solid turn-based strategy game set inside of a gladiatorial arena. It’s fun, and does a lot right, but there are some major improvements to make. Genre/Similar Games: Turn-based RPGs PROS: ✅Great foundation of stats, items, racials, and abilities ✅Some interesting after combat events CONS: ➖RNG can lead to some terrible scenarios ➖No form of progression carries over between runs Content (Game world/Narrative/Lore) – [3/10] In Mortal Glory (MG), you control a team of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my favorite indie game since FTL. If you love the self-driven narrative gameplay of FTL, this game is a MUST BUY. The gladiators have plenty of variety in their role on the battle field and enough flavor to make you feel attached to your roster. A death or two won't necessarily cripple your run. You can even plan ahead and overcome possible disaster if you develop some of your 2nd string gladiators wisely. But, when one of your little dudes bites the dust, it's impactful, it feels…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mortal Glory is team-based, turn-based tactical rouge-like, in which you will purchase gladiators, items (weapon, armor, accessory), skills/spells, and permanent stat-boosts in order to field a team of four fighters to progress through 16 battles (at which point you win in standard mode). The battles take place on a rectangular grid. The available gladiators are diversified by race (yielding a race-specific bonus) and random traits. These traits are typically of mixed benefit (+ one stat, -…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The problem with this game is that it has no reason to exist. When its sequel outdoes it by every metric, then what good does having a primitive, similarly prized, inferior version could serve? If I could provide any commercial advice, it would be that this game should be either the budget version, or a sort of advertisement for the sequel, sort of like a very cheap commercial. But, as it stands, I don't see why anyone should buy this. There's no story to begin from. Just get the second…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With the introduction of [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/2216660/Mortal_Glory_2/]Mortal Glory 2, there is little justification for purchasing its precursor; much of what this product has to offer lies in its replayability as the content attempts to stretch itself narrow with the unpredictable nature of events and challenges. The arena never changes, save for a few color themes and pillars, so all players will have to remind themselves of variety is whether a pillar is blocking their…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game some years ago. A gladiator management game sounded cool as heck (it's a genre I desperately love) and I just now got around to playing it. It's not really gladiator management. It's... Random stat roll management. Had two characters on the first run. One had 20hp and the other had 8hp. "Okay," thinks I "Low numbers. That's good." First enemy has 80+ and higher everything. I saw the kind of game it was going to be. Tried a second run. Thought "ooh, these two wizards are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this game and I hate the same time. This could be a negative review just as easy ... and the reason is that it's almost pure luck. I just won my first game after the 3rd or 4th try but I was pretty sure at least 3 times during the "run" that the next fight will be my last, where my party dies. Other reviews already mentioned the problems (no zone of control / attack of opportunity, etc) which makes the fights unpredictable. There's a good chance there will be at least 1 opponent with a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simple yet enjoyable game. Replay value through increasing difficulty. For what it costs, this is an excellent way to squander your life.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game here is 100% roguelike and I feel it's not ephasized enough in the description. I hate the genre mostly so that's obviously a big letdown. Second thing is, the game is actually not about gladiators, but some mercenaries just fighting in the pit. And the fights, well, are very, very bland. There's also no ludus of yours and you don't train these mercenaries in any other way - contrary to the description. You just upgrade them, or, to be exact, they upgrade themselves + you get some…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You build and manage a team of gladiators. You can upgrade your units, teach them new skills and equip them with gear. You enter a 5-round tournament. Each round has 3 fights and you need to win at least 2 out of 3 in order to proceed to the next round. There are also some random events between fights that can have an either positive or negative outcome. You win all 5 rounds, you go to the big final fight. That's the game. The RnG during the early stages of the game can easily put…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game with good progression. I like all the different stats, even though I mostly play magic builds. But I like that physical archery and magic builds feel distinct. Only gripe is it's hard to to predict what the opponent will do, as you need to manually check how many cells they can move, and what they reach are. overall it's quite addicting to buy new gears, fighters and skills. Simply and fun game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little game. May need a little bit more item mods. Also it does not make sense recruiting new gladiators as the original ones get very strong over time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat little gladiator management game. It's deceptively simple but the troop progression and combat strategy go surprisingly deep. PROS + Good replay value + Charming 2D sprites + Unique troop builds + Plenty of gears and spells + Each run feels different CONS - Endless mode should've been default - Needs more race variety in base game - Art assets are not cohesive - UI feels laggy or sticky at times Despite the cons, I had good fun and can see myself replaying it through the years. Pretty…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun game. Easy to pick up, but difficult to master. Appreciate that there's certainly a learning curve and enough elements to make it feel like a proper RPG or roguelike, but without being overwhelming.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played and loved the base game for 7 hours. Didn't even realise there was a Career mode. Though it's very light on map and battle variation, the combat is fun, the events are cool, and building a team feels really good. Second wave settings let you live your permadeath XCOM dream. The whole stats and equipment system is perfectly balanced. Simple enough to be understood, complex enough to make you agonise for 5 mins over whether to equip Belt A or Belt B.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mortal Glory is an interesting game with a ton of unique mechanics. It definitely needs a balance change for the higher glory levels. Many of the matches are impossible to win, starting with beast enemies with stats that are far too high. There should be a bonus for doing the higher glory levels, like greater luck or gold given. It becomes tedious with how many times a run has to be abandoned because they are so luck dependent. There should also be some minimum level to encounter beast enemies,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My library consists of many roguelikes, roguelites, unfair and utterly infuriating games, yet i have never seen a game like this one. This game convinced me that I have been living in a delusion, thinking that pure randomnes is good and makes a game more fun. Thank you for proving me how wrong I was. The game concept seems amazing at first, but is so poorly executed, that after 40 hours of playtime, I still try to find anything positive that might justify everything negative, but to no avail.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Brutal, Addictive, and Shockingly Rewarding." Mortal Glory is a turn-based roguelike set in a quirky fantasy gladiator world that will absolutely make you sweat. This isn’t an easy game by any stretch — in fact, it will frustrate you, punish your mistakes, and sometimes destroy your run in a single bad turn. And yet… it’s so well-designed that you keep coming back for more. One of the best parts of Mortal Glory is how much freedom you have over your team. You can run a single, hyper-geared…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/GFJCJZ9l9Yo Well considered setting and them but it stumbles on the execution with too much mystery meat in high variability in states and dice rolls.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended with reservations. There's good fun to be had, and it comes close to doing gladiator roguelike combat quite well, but it has issues (and there's a sequel so you might be better served with that instead). 7/10 Most battles are about one- or two- shotting things and drawing out your opponents so they don't have support. As such, there's not a huge amount of depth to the fights and higher difficulties are more about who can take down the other team quickest. There are "challenges"…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not amazing but it's a solid turn based rogue and there are plenty of options and upgrades to be had.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. It's a simple roguelike gladiator game and it might not have a ton of depth but it has a lot of fun. I feel like it always has you making meaningful decisions to increase your chance of victory and the random elements influence your decisions a lot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed my time with this rather simple game but it's hard to recommend at full price. The content is sparse, the UI is fiddly, and the stat variability often did not lend itself to interesting choices. Still, it's polished for what it is, and the core loop of "fight mans, get stuff, fight more and bigger mans" is compelling for a time. Grab it on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a lot of potential but the design feels overly simplistic and the gameplay doesn't have enough depth for the simple premise of fighting in the same arena each fight. Pros: Cool concept and it is fun to trick out your party Cons: There is not enough differentiation between the magic users, melee fighters, and archers. All of the skills pretty are super similar. There was a ton of opportunity to make more unique skills/abilities but the developer didn't take that path. For a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty decent way to kill an hour or two a day for a week. Unfortunately it is very much in the vein of all the recent Newgrounds type games that have popped up lately on Steam, almost no depth and bare bones everything but an interesting idea. You'll play it for a small bit and then most likely put it down for months if not ever. Can't recommend a game I never see myself playing again.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I find a bug that can get infinity money.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →fun game to play. I use it a lot to play just something thats quick and easy, but at the same time it keeps the brain stimulated.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A little hesitant in giving this a thumbs down. The game art is workable, but lacks the flair to really get the proper game feel in. There's not much in the sounds and music department. The gameplay is very functional, although a bit basic and slow. The game works on a fundamental level, but the overall gameplay is bit too samey for a rogue-like. What is there works, but it doesn't work well enough in conjunction with the rest of the game to be memorable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If there was a campaign mode, I'd like the game a lot more. As it is, it's just OK for me, and I'm done with it after just 1 tournament. The gameplay is fun, but I didn't enjoy reaching the end of a tournament and having absolutely nothing carry over. It's advertised as a roguelike, so it would be unfair to give it thumbs down for that but I wish there was something more to it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic small unit tactics and rogue-like game. I enjoyed getting to know all the ins and outs of the game and what works best in different situations.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Underrated
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Addictive gameplay, that gives you that "one more time" itch. Definiitely ruined a few sleep cycles over-playing this late night.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of the most enjoyable roguelites I have played. Although, it's not impresive in the visual department it compesates in gameplay. It gets random enough so that every session feels sufficiently unique both in adversaries and gear. Also, being able to tailor the difficulty of the session (like SYNTHETIK and Slay the Spire) adds points to replayability and necessary challenge to keep you hooked. Huge respect is also due to the creator of this game for producing such an entertaining…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty simplistic. Would be nice to have some variety in arenas. All that seems to change is column positions. However, it's easy to lose time on this game. And it's very enjoyable! Still not won a campaign yet. But, been close a bunch of times. Again, very simple game. One of the few games I don't bother to stream since, I mostly play it in bed whilst watching a film before sleep ha. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is simple, fun, scratches an itch.. It isnt a deep dive into everything gladiator with a steep mechanics learning curve. You start out with a limited amount of gold, choose roster and or items from store, fight then repeat with some cut scene like choices which buff, gift or take away. Worth it for some simple strat gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just want the game to have another positive review. It's good!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent gladiator management game!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so much fun! You recruit gladiators of various races to join your team, teach them skills, train them, buy then equipment, and there's even fun little narrative scenarios that risks and rewards. Since everything from the arenas, shops, characters, stats, items, rewards, and scenarios are all randomized, each playthrough is unique so the game stays fresh. Highly recommend for fans of turn-based tactics games!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mortal Glory is a tough, methodical tactical roguelike that places strategic thinking and long-term planning above spectacle or narrative flourish. Developed and published by Redbeak Games, it casts the player as a manager of gladiators in a harsh fantasy arena where survival is never guaranteed and victory is always earned through careful preparation. Rather than telling a sweeping story, the game focuses on the rise and fall of your fighters across repeated runs, using systems-driven gameplay…
