Edit after 1.0 Release: Unfortunately the gripes on slow combat is still pretty much there on top of unavoidable encounters that mostly punish you than reward you. On top of that, I've also come to realize that this game has a vast amount of cards, equipment, consumables etc which seems to somehow cripple itself more than it helps. Normally variety is a selling point but i find that in this game it's just needlessly complicated to the point that it's just so tedious having to read through…

Don’t Know What I’m Doing, But Doing It Better Now Draft of Dankness is like a haunted life coach. I come in cocky. I leave humbled. Every. damn. time. I used to think “healing” was for the weak. Now I know it’s also for people who aren’t bad at math under pressure. This game didn’t just punish my bad habits... it taught me. Slowly. Through pain. And the vibes? Sublimely rancid. VHS rotcore aesthetic with deliciously crunchy mechanics. If fear is the mind-killer, this game is the gym.

The game as a true charm to it, and it's being supported by the developers to this day which is a great thing. After playing three hours of the game upon purchase, I don't actually want to continue playing, I think about it but something turns me off from the game. I think that thing is micromanagement. The game is a mix between card battle rogue like and survival turn based RPG, something like Slay The Spire meets Stalker. This is where the big turn off comes from, every card you play has the…

The game has some balancing issues but the devs are actually willing to hear you out and talk about their game. Very passionate people and I think I gave it too harsh of a critique when it's still being worked on. Balancing a game is hard and I was just on the afterburn from the huge dissapointment that was Inscryption so I think I was just embittered. *For those unaware that was before they added the mode to continue the first chapter of the game. Like the game AT release was very…

It feels unfair that this game's total reviews are as low as they are. Easy addition to my roguelike deck builder repertoire. I don't feel like going too deep into it, especially since I haven't seen everything it has to offer. What I can say with certainty is that this game will challenge some of your notions about deck builders and pressure you with elements you haven't likely seen in deck builders before. If you're far enough that you're reading this review, then you're far enough to at…

Written By Hidden Gems Review : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38624426/, Follow me! Draft of Darkness is a roguelike and a card battler game. Finally is out the release at 1.0, for me this game is one of the best roguelikes games I ever played and the card battle stuff, has a interesting gacha feature with booster packs, which are several ones depending on the type of attacks with your weapons. There is also a RPG part where you can recruit new members and give them stats and level…

I would recommend this to Traditional Roguelike fans but not Roguelike Deckbuilder fans if that makes any sense. If you're looking to scratch the itch for something like Slay the Spire this probably isn't going to do it for you.

Draft of Darkness has a killer concept – what if Slay the Spire and Resident Evil had a grotesque mutant baby? It’s a shame then that it seems to have slipped under the radar, as it’s an extremely strong realisation of that idea, especially considering this is the work of one dude. In terms of looks and atmosphere it’s pretty spot on to that PS1 era of survival horror, and if you find the default filters a bit too much there’s plenty of customisation options to get it to your particular optimum…

I respect that there is a lot that this game offers. But that is also the reason why I didn't enjoy it. You can check my game history. I've played all the roguelike deckbuilders. None of them are this busy. There are simply too many things to keep track of. You have to manage equipment per character, relics, currency to play the cards, stats for characters, decks/cards for each character you recruit, cards that only work with certain equipped weapons, and keep track of the characters…

This is the first game I have ever reviewed on Steam. If you look at my Steam account you will see that I played most games tagged with Roguelite Deckbuilder. IMHO the only game in the genre that is actually better than Slay the Spire. This game is a masterwork in thematic unity. I am a big fan of the art style. The interplay with survival horror mechanics and character building tells a lot of the story in the way that so many big budget titles have missed: through the game-play. To give…

This is an excellent game. It finds very clever ways to integrate deck building, party building, and resource management, all while using a minimalist art style to convey a creepy, if not downright scary vibe. I'd love to see the dev(s) get more visibility and support to expand the game further. It just needs a bit more content across the board and it could be one of the absolute jewels of the Spire-like genre.

Amazing game, incredibly underrated, best random buy I ever did. Looked cool, sounded cool, bought it. My expectations got blown away, amazing deck building and customization, can craft pretty complex strategies and synergies with companions which have their own separate deck each, the weapon and ammunition system is very unique and adds a really fun extra layer of strategy and resource management to combats. Excellent visuals mixing real/hyperrealistic pictures with pixelart giving it…

Hesitant recommend. There's a good amount to like here, but the jank and overall feeling of lack of balance feels off-putting enough to me not to play further. + Good ambiance + Strong theme + Intriguing story + Multiple playable characters to unlock + Can speed up animations/walking in settings (heavily recommended) + Custom run/challenge runs available * Meta-progression of sorts, you can use resources in one run to send a good card/trophy back to be used in another one. EDIT: My original negative review was primarily because it was not possible within the game commands to exit the game in any fashion while in a battle, you had to CTRL+ALT+DEL to close out. This was particularly annoying because some battles you could totally tell were lost, but it would take ages for the enemy to actually finish you off. The developer fixed this issue within like a day. So, thumbs up for quick response to feedback alone. Beyond that, the game is pretty solid. It plays…

If i only had one sentance to describe the game, it would've been something like "Unique charm and gameloop, and both are REALLY enjoyable" You'll quickly fall in love with this game, even though it's unbalanced AF. At first, you'll think the game is unbelivably unfair to you. Then you discover all the good stuff. Like the backpack build, courage-cycle, finisher-Cara, Acid-chainsaw, overzealous+queen; The list of those goes on and on. You can make a broken build with just two cards and an…

Even accounting for all the big named ones like slay the spire and Griftlands, and even other smaller games like Dicefolk. An Exotic, one of a kind, horror game tl;dr: I recommend this game if you like an actual survival-horror vibe in games and/or if you enjoy exploration and fighting beasts without feeling too powerful. This reminds me of a nice survival horror game series, (said game series has a "pyramid guy") yes it made me think about S.H. Your character got a stat point to choose when you level up (Str/Vit/Dex/Int,etc). There are weapons, armors. They all have different stats. I feel like cards in the deck does not matter much as long as I'm careful explore and conserve my resources. The game is RPG first Deckbuildng second. This game is a steal right now at $10! Moving around a map in a cyberpunk dystopia, finding loot stashes, and using cards to battle during encounters - This game pulled together everything I didn't know I wanted in a game. It works very well as both a deckbuilding card battler and a roguelike. The pixel art and atmosphere are top notch too. Very grim, very gritty. The notes are a nice touch too. Great and highly original little roguish deck-builder. The arguably genius move of making a mash-up of old-school Resident Evil style survival horror with the card-based combat and perma-death of Slay the Spire, Monster Slayers and everything of that genre that has come since really works. What makes it work, is the fact that though the graphics are spot-on in their lo-res pixelated, grungy beauty and the sounds are similarly apt, the head on collision of two said genres doesn't just end with…

It's rare for me to hit games with this appellation, but Draft of Darkness is a total hidden gem. A "survival horror deckbuilding roguelike" crafted by a solo developer, it knocks it out of the park on both the "survival horror" and "deckbuilding roguelike" fronts and creates something surprisingly unique in a totally saturated field. Draft of Darkness is what happens when a deckbuilder and Resident Evil have a baby, but Resident Evil kept smoking and drinking while pregnant. I like this game alot. The visuals, the combat, the enemy design, are all dirty with muck and grime. Very enjoyable, I just wish it was much bigger. Theres a demon that appears with 400 health, I think its impossible but not sure. Am I supposed to just run instead? Not a fan of fights u cant win in RPGs. Still has a great game behind it. Turn based explore in a dark nefarious world. Some crafting available, and chances to remove cards...but not enough if u screw up.

After giving this game some more hours, I wanted to edit my previous negative review into a positive one. Despite some flaws and personal irks, DoD nonetheless manages to deliver an engaging package combined with a very novel take on the deckbuilder genre. This game is the love child of a deckbuilding game and survivor horror. It's an outstanding roguelike that masterfully merges the best elements of risk/reward with really tight deckbuilding mechanics. I really love that you can buy booster backs and build your own starter decks for each character. One thing I don't love about some other deckbuilding games is the way every starter deck is the same. The story, even before Part II is cool and you learn more as you collect pieces of lore and talk to characters, the art style is so unique and memorable, and the combat is so satisfying and leaves you craving more. A diamond in the rough. The premise alone is enough to perk one's interest: survival horror mixed with a turn-based deck builder. The atmosphere is oppressive, filled with radioactive cities, moldering apartments, grungy sewers, and decaying hospitals. This is a world that's verging not in collapse (That's already happened), but with human extinction. Everything looks grimy and dirty, seen through a grainy, pixelated lens. You did not take a turn during this combat. Sometimes Draft Of Darkness is like this, and I can absolutely see people bouncing off of that. That said, if there's anything Draft of Darkness is good at, it's ambiance. It's the visual equivalent of a late 80s/early 90s cyberpunk horror movie.
