55 of 55 · most liked firstPoint and click adventure that takes inspiration from Swedish folklore. I'll be honest, I played free games, similar to this one, that were better. If you're really into achivement hunting you will be happy to hear that this game can be finished in about 30 minuts as long as you follow a guide, without a guide you can still beat it in an hour or so. I wouldn't buy it for more than 50 cents, that's all I got to say.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In brief: Midvinter is a short point & click adventure based on Scandinavian folk lore. It has a fun and original storyline as far as games go and about an hour of content. Midvinter is a curious one. Folk lore of Scandinavian people with gnomes, trolls and other fay folk is a rarity not often explored in games. As a Finnish gamer (and our folk lore shares a lot with the Swedish one) I found the theme refreshing. Taking the role of a house gnome, you are (as per the folk lore goes) a…

This is why I love indie games! I've had to choose between watching Fear the Walking Dead and playing this game. I've choosen the second option, and I don't regret it at all. The game has a very intriguing story that takes you deep into the culture of an Sweden fairytale. It may be a bit short (between 20-40 minutes) but the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately I can't recommend this. There's just too little substance for the price tag, even half off. There's practically only a dozen scenes with only a handful of interactions. The whole thing is completely beatable within half an hour, getting the happy ending without doing anything more than logically following the clues presented by each interactable item. There's no challenge, and there's very little exposition about the actual folklore, and I wasn't sold on the art work. Think…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This adventure game is really short and can be completed in less than an hour. This shouldn't necessarily stop you from playing though, the puzzles might be far from complex or challenging and your chararcter might move as fast as frozen molasses, but the setting is quirky and original, the voice acting isn't half-bad (especially not considering the fact I think they're not native English speakers) and there are a bunch of different "paths" and endings you can get. EDIT: The developers used…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is clearly a labour of love, with lovely artwork and haunting music. Temper your expectations otherwise though, Midvinter is very short, although it seems to have a few different endings. Point n click mechanics are very straightforward, the story is fairly basic and voice acting isn't great. I'd say it's worth a shot for a short, relaxing game session, and it's a good achievment for a sole developer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short but sweet atmospheric point-and-click adventure game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cozy game, backed with good ethic values. Short and sweet, will play through a couple of times to view all endings!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game description says this is a "cozy little point-and-click game". At first glance, it does look a lot like a classic Point & Click adventure. You can point, you can click, you get comments on everything, you have an inventory for all kinds of items that you're supposed to solve puzzles with. Charming 2D graphics and a fun little character, check. And yet... Cosy in my book means low stakes. Having to prevent a baby from being abducted into slavery is... something else. It's also…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The UI is awful. Animations are sllloooww. Very little exposition about the folklore. You can complete the game in 30 minutes. Very little replay value unless you want to see all the endings and get all the achievements. I 100%ed it in 87 minutes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This charming, feel-good game is based on Scandinavian folklore, which was compelling enough reason for me to try it out, as I find gaming to be a great way to learn about various mythologies of interest when incorporated into this medium of story-telling. It's of the Point and Click genre, with rather delightful art (see screenie link below) and adequate voiceovers. The game is short, but there are 3 different possible endings, each of which give a different Achievement/Achievements,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, this is a short point&click adventure based on Swedish faery tales. The gameplay is simple and short but the developer made some effort to make his/her little gem different than the other p&c's. Our hero is a small gnome which helps&protects his farmers. You have to do little home tasks to make happy your farmers, protect them against the troll etc. You need to solve the problems in 3 days. Each day splitted into time slots and each action takes one slot. If you run out of them, you need…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Errrmmmm, wtf ?! The game was ticking along nicely ,not perfect but interesting in that quirky way that some foreign made games are. Then.. it suddenly ended and so here i am thinking ,was it meant to end like that ? Methinks it needs a bit more content ,just saying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little point and click game ! As a scandinavian I loved the setting as its not often I get to experience a game that is set close to where I live! I did a playthrough of the game if anyone is interested! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiIzNn1ucYo
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story (if you can even call "Monsters threatens to take child, you bring your big sister with you after doing groceries for her, monster leaves" a story) and the puzzles are all very straightforward and uninteresting, the art is bad, and the game is extremely short and absolutely not worth the price. And it's not even necessarily about the length, when I completed it I was left wondering "Is this really it?", because it's so shallow and unsatisfactory, it feels like something that should be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pointless quest. You save the day regardless of choices or opportunities missed. Game design and story are fine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an interesting, short game based on nordic mythology. The pace is slow, but in a good way. you're given tasks to complete and as you do, the world around you unfolds. I love the voice work in this one. It really adds to the atmosphere. There is nothing too challenging about this game, but it is fun and relaxing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very charming and cozy point-and-click adventure with a take on Swedish folk lore. Recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a cute little game that doesn't take long to play through, but it leaves you with a warm feeling. The story is nice and your choices in the game lead to three different endings, which was fun as I am always a sucker for games where choices matter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was a really sweet, quiet game with a great soundtrack. The snow-covered farm was beautiful. I loved walking the gnome around the farm at night, setting things right for the human family, and negotiating deals with the wilder fae in the woods. I wish it had been a longer game, I enjoyed it a lot and felt a lot of sympathy for the gnome and his friends and humans. My only regret is that the singing from the trailer is nowhere in the game itself, not even in the credits. I would play the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very short point-and-click game based on Swedish lore. I picked it up for Christmas Eve as the scene felt appropriate. Beautiful for those with an interest but not fully familiar with Swedish folktales. It shows how they were talked of in daily life with the casual mention through the humans. The song in the video sums up the game beautifully well, I just wish it had been throughout the game. It has an old charm to it and the gnome guardian feels so pure hearted. Be forewarned, once you finish…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was super charming! It's simple and a quick play, but the characters are awesome and the music was beautiful. I do wish the gnome walked a bit faster and that some of the voices were louder, but that's okay, I can't wait to play again and take a different story path! Huge props to the ONE person who created the game, she's a rockstar!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you love this game u can love any game. i finished it in 30 minutes and i literally did nothing. i said to the troll to stop and he said that i was right and it was the and of the game. seriously what the ♥♥♥♥?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredible game, definitely recommend for people that just want a nice chilled out session of game time and enjoys learning about folklore. Will have to play it a few more times to get the rest of the endings. So worth the small amount of money!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game probably isn't for people who are in a hurry, aren't familiar with Swedish folklore and/or the language, or who just don't like cozy point-and-click games. I happened to check all three boxes for about an hour and a half tonight and got some sweet, sweet cheevos and a little more Swedish practice. Two thumbs up, would double-click my little friend around a Swedish farm again (three times, in fact. Cheeeeeevos.)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good game to play if you're looking for a puzzle you can solve in a day. The story is surprisingly good and kept me interested throughout. Art style could use some polish but doesn't affect too much from the overall experience
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming and relaxing point and click game with interesting folklore. I played through about four times to see the different endings and achievements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphics aren't all that great, and neither is the voice acting. But it's a fun, little adventure based around creatures from Norse mythology, and they're portrayed fairly well. Get it on sale. 1 hour for 100% completion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is wonderful. As someone who loves Scandinavian folk lore I had a great time. The game is very short, and can be played in under an hour, but in order to get all the achievements you need to play it multiple times and for the cheap price, I was more than satisfied with it. The soundtrack was soothing, and the voice acting, while not great was fine. I cannot speak for the English voice acting but the Swedish wasnt bad my only complaint was a few glitches that happened along the way,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute and very short point & click adventure introducing some figures from Swedish folklore. The graphics are okay, but the controls need extra clicking to forward dialogues and exit interactions. I liked the background music, it gives atmosphere, though becomes a bit repetitive over time. Sadly the voice acting is really amateurish, I ended up just reading most of the dialogue and skipping the voiceover itself. Get it on a sale or discount, it's worth a playthrough (or three for the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For being the first game of Talecore studios, it's a very nice and warm experience, still fantastic to think that it has been made by one person alone in such a short time. It seems like there are very few games today inspired by nordic mythology, especially the very small and mundane, that was very common in countries like Sweden, when people were still very superstitious and afraid of the dark. Images like Näcken, the fierce but beautiful portrayal of a man, said to drown those who come close…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Deer had philosophers as well, ancient beasts with antlers like forests who thought deeply on the meaning of hunger and the need for wolves.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Midvinter is a short Scandinavian Point & Click fairy tale by a Swedish indie studio. The game is translated into several languages and has voiceovers that can be combined.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The achievements almost provide more content than the game itself, but sometimes I just want to kill some time without investing many hours or days (or weeks, or months) in the experience, and for that, Midvinter delivers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is hard to say a lot about a game this short (approx 30min), however, I must say that I loved the artwork and the music expecially - Very soothing. If you are into scandinavian folklore and music you are going to love this! The downside of the game, except for being insanely short and extremely easy, is the voice acting (Sorry!). Almost made me wish the dialogue was read-only. ____________________________________ Play this game if: - You love scandinavian folklore - You love traditional…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun setting and puzzles. Concept reminded me of those old browser games where you would chose the order to grow things in order to maximize the level of everything (bad description, but I'm sure someone knows what I'm talking about). It's worth keeping in mind that this game is extremely short at under an hour to 100%. If you are into nordic mythology or just enjoy easy point and clicks then I would definitely recommend this, but maybe wait until it's on sale. I think $2.50 is where it is worth…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An enjoyable little point-and-click adventure about a gnome living on a farm with some newly-arrived humans. I picked it up for 2 and half euros from what my receipts say, and I'm happy with what I got for the price. It took me about 40 minutes in total to get all the achievements, including the hidden one. There's a foundation here for a nice little farm managment game, with the added interest of enriching or ruining the unwitting human tenants, not to mention the prospect of dealing with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short - 20 minutes tops - and extremely simple point-and-click experience based on Swedish folk lore. The soundtrack is beautiful as well as atmospheric, but... it's 20 minutes straight-forward point and click, suitable for perhaps a child, and its full price is 4,99€. I realise and respect that this game was made with love, and by someone with a genuine interest in Swedish folklore, but I can't see past the price versus its content. I wish it at least could have gone somewhat into depth of the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tags: Adventure - Sidescroll Additional Tags: Delete Local Content & Remove from Library TLDR: Amateur art. Lame animation work. Short. Feels like a showcase more than a game. Horrible voice acting. Very short. Go through three day cycles trying to identify little chores with hints from the observation feature. Use the interact feature to perform tasks. Did two tasks and identified a potential two more when the game abruptly ended in a success. I suppose the game tallied some kind of score.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I thoroughly enjoyed this little game. I've read reviews complaining that it's too simple, that the movement is too slow, that it's not "action-oriented" enough. But that's not the point of the game. It's an attempt by someone from one culture to teach at least part of the myths and legends from that culture to the rest of the world, in a form that is accessible to many people. Also, take into account when you play this that the game, while put out by a company, was actually designed, drawn,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cute, short game. It's a simple point and click that can be finished in less than an hour. The art style reminds me of some old fairy and gnome encyclopedia's that my grandmother had when I was growing up. Very suitable for children.
