TLDR: I was eager to enjoy this game, but repeated and frustrating design elements have discouraged me from wanting to continue. [6/10] The good: - Animon look great. Fantastic designs for the vast majority. Was excited to collect all of them. - The "shinies" are an amazing take on what they usually are in games. Tweaking the forms on top of the color palette is an excellent choice. - The grind isn't terrible. The mechanics in place to mitigate it are pretty fair alongside of the animon…

This is the first time I will give a straight downvote to a game of creature collection genre. The game has its potential. Although the turn cycle is not suitable for this kind of game, this can partially be acceptable. The Animons seem to have their unique moveset and ability, which can distinguish the game from others on the store. However, it is heavily drawn back by a very clunky control and obvious bugs - like the game never went through a proper playtest before release: - Tons of…

I waffled on whether I wanted to leave this review. I know that negative reviews can really impact indie games and I don't want to adversely impact Beehive Studios. I did honestly try to give this game a shot and I feel like my play time reflects that fact. But, ultimately, if pressed to answer "would I recommend this game," I would have to say no. LumenTale: Memories of Trey is not a bad game. I certainly could not play over 50 hours of a game that was fundamentally broken or imbalanced. In…

I have never left a review on a game before. That is how strongly I feel about this game. Since I would not recommend this game I will start with the positives. 1. I think the creature designs are extremely creative. Some of the creatures have a LOT going on with their designs, but some are extremely simple. It's a good mix of overall well designed monsters. 2. The story (FOR THE MOST PART) is actually fairly interesting and relatively easy to follow. Especially towards the end things get…

Let me start by saying I really wanted to like this game, but after finishing the prologue/demo, I came away more frustrated than excited. The biggest issue, and one that affects almost every aspect of the game, is communication. The game does a good job explaining some mechanics through natural tutorials, then completely fails to explain other systems that are arguably more important. For example, early on you're encouraged to choose a starter Animon. Instead of presenting them by elemental…

Edit:They fixed the bug that was halting progress. I still can't recommend the game so I'm leaving it negative for now, but this might change as I play more Things stopping me for recommending: - 1 save file - no way of knowing information about the animons to make an informed decision to capture both in battle(even after scan, it doesn't show the traits and IVs) or before battle(no way of knowing if that battle has any animon with a hidden type) -already find another bug although minor, after…

I sincerely enjoy this game and its design, but I do not recommend it due to the substantial amount of bugs. After 110 hours and 93 out of 100 achievements, I've experienced equal amounts of joy and frustration. This game launched as a full release, but it clearly had insufficient testing. Two small hotfixes have been implemented, but both of them generated as many new bugs as they resolved. Puzzles exist to be solved in order to gain access to areas, but the puzzle mechanisms won't spawn.…

I tried really really hard to love this game, and its an okay game, I don't hate it, but I absolutely do NOT love it. Lumentale has been on my radar for years now as I was a big fan of the game Xenoverse: Per Aspera Ad Astra produced by the same developers, and the demo for the game that released approximately ~3 years ago now made this game one of my most anticipated Monster Catching RPGs ever. Overall, I liked the dev's previous work, I really liked the demo, so where do my issues with…

I really wanted to like this game but there are so many present issues that I can't with good conscience promote it, especially with the issues that could have been solved by more playtesting. Let me start with what I liked: The 2.5D art looks great, sure there are visual bugs sometimes that kinda ruin the feel but overall, it's a very visually appealing game. Music is alright, nothing too special IMO but not bad by any means. I didn't really find myself jamming out to any of the…

I very rarely leave reviews. I’m a married dad with two young kids who only really gets to game on my Steam Deck, and even then, in very short bursts. Having said that, this game is consuming every bit of free time I have. It very elegantly aligns to everything I used to love about the Pokemon series and finds solutions in places where more recent Pokemon games have gone wrong. Graphics are beautiful and the music is a bop. Whole game is drawing me back every time I pause it and I’m SO…

I've been around since the kickstarter and it's been an absolute pleasure watching everyone work on and grow this amazing game! I put a lot of time in both the kickstarter demo as well as the public demo and the updates between the two made the gameplay more fun and the environment more beautiful! Without spoiling too much already, the story is absolutely wonderful and pulls you in--better yet you can make different choices that actually affect the story and characters. The monster designs…

What a waste of time. Don't bother playing this game that doesn't value or respect the players time. A lot of people will tell you how buggy the map is and how lacking some of the Animon are and how many 2-stage evolutions, and the lack of sprites for "lost" variant Animon, which is something the devs got too lazy or ran out of time to finish and would rather have you pay upfront for somethings that should've been in game on release. My biggest problem with this game was the story; quite…

As a big fan of creature collectors, I was sorely disappointed in this title. The designs of the Animon are interesting, but that's about all I liked. The battles are long and tedious, and the aggro of the enemies on the map had me running away from so many encounters. Exploration is frustrating with a lack of useful fast travel tools--the one that exists is not explained in game. In fact, many mechanics are never fully explained, especially with evolving the Animon! A creature collector…

dont bother with this game. first off the update they just did ruined the combat system. they released an update for the game that cut the damage you deal by alot. at least 50%. overall damage was reduced by 50% and critical hits damage bonus was reduced from 1.8x to 1.3x. if an animon is a higher level then yours then you do far less damage. at 5 levels difference you do half damage to them and at 7 levels higher you do about 20% damage to them, its absolutely absurd. the devs did this…

I was going to just give this a quick review but there are some major issues plaguing this game, which really hurts because it's so close to being something that stands out in the creature collector genre. First of all it severely lacks QoL like text speed, skipping cutscenes (the game crashes a lot), and speeding up battles. After your tenth battle it begins to get very boring and tedious watching every battle animation play out in full. (Especially while grinding/hunting) The level curves…

One of the best "creature collection" game, made with a lot of love. I've played the demo and fell in love with the game, for the first time since Cassette Beasts, the gameplay feel fresh and clear. I struggle with rythm so the overworld capture is not for me, but you can also catch Animon in fight. Unfortunately this game falls under the "devs didnt get the cyberpunk 2077 memo" category. This is in all aspects an early access game sold as complete, evident from the "early adopter" pack that was given with the first month sales. I really think there's a lot of good in this game. And as a game developer myself, writing this review pains me. LumenTale: Memories of Trey just lacks polish and has several bugs that keep it from feeling like it's complete. A few big ones for me which kept me from recommending this game are: 1) Lack of performance on the Steam Deck. There are just too many things wrong with the game, and honestly, I haven’t been having the fun I expected (comparing this to Pokemon makes the latter seem creative). I’ve decided to stop playing because gaming is supposed to be enjoyable, not tedious like this creature collector. The game tries to make you believe it has a story, but every town follows the same repetitive formula. First, I’d like to say that the game isn’t all bad—the creature designs are quite inspired, and in a monster-taming game, that makes a big difference. The story seems to stand out from the “traditional” formula by incorporating elements of more meaningful world-building. Despite all that, I have to say that the negative aspects stand out… glaringly. Going to the animons, there was no reason to have different types of animon in my party; such as fire, grass, electric, demon, and water, in my opinion, ancient, aura, or digital would always have an attack that is super effective, and to be honest, those animons are the only ones that I really liked the designs and ideas for. I'm a glutton for creature collector games with hundreds of hours in this genre and have played them since I was a kid. Pokémon, Temtem, Palworld, Nexomon and more, and this seems like another great game to take a look at if you are a fan of any of those kinds of games. I vastly prefer double battles you can find in Pokémon and Temtem as it offers a deeper level of strategy and makes me feel more engaged. This game takes it a step further and lets you field up to four Animon at a time with a…

I really want to like this game but no way I can write this review and say that it was good. The designs of the areas and the Animon are stunning. There were even parts where I had to stop and admire the beauty of this game. But the UI issues, the overly-complex ways to evolve Animon, over-leveling that is abundant if you do not beeline for every main mission, and the repetitive climax of the game that culminates in a boss fight that required me to over-level to 15 levels over the boss to have…

Let's start with a premise: all things considered, I liked the game just enough (helped by its reasonable price) to be able to recommend it. However, I've decided not to. I've decided not to recommend it (and to advise against it) because I consider Lumentale a tremendously and inexcusably PRESUMPTUOUS and CLUELESS game. First, a small digression on the positives — the game does have some, not many, but some: Trey is not an exceptional protagonist, but he's definitely "alive" enough to stand…

Really cute and fun creature collector game!! Since I played the demo a couple months ago I became OBSESSED with it and I was literally counting the days until release. Even though the release was kinda bittersweet, everyone on the community was super nice and helpful and we managed to work togheter to overcome most bugs! And the devs response was also incredibly fast, nice and helpful as well. In less than 24h they released a hotfix and I'm really happy to see the reviews had changed,…

PLEASE NOTE THIS REVIEW WAS WRITTEN BEFORE THE MAJOR UPDATE RELEASED ON SEPTEMBER 29TH. A LOT, IF NOT ALL, OF THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED WITH THE UPDATE. I'm past the halfway point and I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews so I just want to say the following: 1. Seeing a lot of complaints about the self-contained plots in each town. The story is episodic in nature. That is the point. I don't see an issue with it. Pair that with the overarching question of who Trey is (which I will…

It is just really clunky with little explaintions. There are hidden types for everything that the game just doesnt tell you exist and some guys only evole if you have that type. I hate how the dex is, it tell is supposed to tell you how something can evolve but it only says level+, so you need level and something else, it doesnt say what that something is. It could be a hidden type, move, item whatever but there is no hint towards it. You also fight second stage animon long before you can…
