16 of 16 · most liked first34k in Colorado, this is a movement and shows that people are fed up already. I would say that this is “game on”. Viva la resistance #Liberte

Finished grading 10th graders papers comparing Revolution, my Rhetoric & Revolution, & Liberte as abstractions of French Rev. 1/ 🗃️ (amplifies appreciated; I love dialogue)
unlabelledView post →I love a janky but interesting game. Currently playing Liberte, which has English voice actors for French characters and a slashing animation for what looks like a rapier, but absolutely stunning art and an interesting take on a card equip system. Oh, and goopy, fleshy cosmic horror!

Certainly helps manage the game & its various phases to decide on faction control, votes, VPs etc. Great work bringing a great game by Martin Wallace onto Vassal to get more plays. boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/25... #Liberte #Vassal
unlabelledView post →Note this judgment from students NOT abt play. Revolution and Liberte are, orders of magnitude better games than my Rhetoric & Revolution prototype. It's just my eventual solution to game designing in the French Rev was to start w/ very specific point: the National Constituent Assembly 1790-91 8/

unlabelledView post →Liberte! Wait, nope sorry France don't pretend to play that game except within their own borders. Cheap petroleum still trumps basic human rights for all.
unlabelledView post →Now having parsed Liberte myself, I suspect it will work well with that GM system (btw solo playing a game as multiple players at once is FANTASTIC preparation for running a game in class), and that game is about a 3.3 on boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/25..., higher than I've really run before 2/
unlabelledView post →Playing a 3-player solitaire run of Liberte to learn it so that my Modern World History classes can play it during our French Revolution Unit. Now we have 3 French Rev-ish games to play and critique. Revolutions; Liberte; and my 1790-1791 card game prototype, Rhetoric and Revolution #gamingthepast

unlabelledView post →Have you tried Liberte by Martin Wallace? More political than military, but an excellent game.
unlabelledView post →Rhetoric & Revolution had, apparently, a goldilocks amount of historical specificity students responded to. When time is short & we can't even come close to covering all of Fr. Revolution, Revolution the game received as too NOT specific; Liberte as better but too expansive rather than specific 7/

Board games Liberte & Brass Lancahsire (trying out for first time) Heart of Africa (to criticize). Video game Through the Darkest of Times.2/

unlabelledView post →Several editions. I prefer the [I think] first with the tall cards and not too many extra cards. I have a greater liking for a game if it really evokes its theme - like this does, or Liberte - rather than the theme being a veneer around the mechanics.
