60 of 183 · most liked firstTL;DR: This is a mixed review mainly complaining about how the grinding ruins the promising parts of the game. Also, the game isn't in the categories it claims to be in, but you can enjoy it with the right expectations, given its core gameplay loop. I liked the core idea of the game and how it plays alongside its theme, but not certain design choices. After I realized the problems with the game that had been present in the prologue versions persisted in the full release, the game fell short of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game doesnt deserve mixed reviews. It is well made, thought out and I encountered no bugs beating the game. I think it all comes down to "this is impossibly difficult", which it isnt. It's no idle "the game beats itself and I can feel good about myself" games. If you struggle at a stage, switch out your troops, your equipment and mix up your strategy and you're usually good to go. I feel like I died around a dozen times, which honestly isn't much for a game of that lenght. Another…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, it is a mix of Plants vs Zombies style "Tower Defense" and action combat. What I really enjoyed was how you can simultaneously put up defenses and move your character while using character skills. In the first 30 minutes it became clear to me that the game had a lot of potential to really push the player later on by forcing you to very quickly juggle utilizing your characters and putting up on the fly defenses. I'm giving this a thumbs down because I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Flawed but fun. It's like Space Invaders reimagined as a Tower Defense RPG. If you are curious, try the demo version which is called "Arachne’s Trial" (the progress carries over) it is beefy enough to know if you want to buy this full version or not :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a lot of great things in this game, from thematics and music to overall systems. The issue comes in towards the middle of Act 2, where progression starts being locked behind challenges that run counter to those systems. If all these challenges were for legendary items or gold, there'd be no issue, but when skill points are being locked behind challenges like "Complete this level without fielding any units" in a game entirely built around fielding units to hold lanes, you start running…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boy the other reviewers weren't kidding. The difficulty ramps up suddenly and viciously a third of the way into the first act, and stays arbitrarily high. The only tool you really have to remedy this is to drop the game's difficulty slider down onto tiny baby mode, as there's no consequences for doing this and as you can't grind for progression---you get advancement points from clearing stages and from clearing challenge quests, nothing else. Equipment is also on random drop, and you have to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completely falls off shortly into chapter 2, where it turns into a repetitive grindathon. Theres no strategy here, its just gear checks and repeating levels until the game deigns to give you the actual level of loot you need to continue. The games claim of "minimal grinding" is just an outright lie, most blatantly when every now and then a level will "experience a sudden level increase". Stay away, literally any tower defense game is better than this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No response, no help nothing for bug that prevents New Mode + Completed Campaign Selected New Mode+ Chapter 1 Mission 1 Wave 7 stuck at end of Wave It never goes to Wave 8 Game is still running. Can still use Helm, Shield, etc... Stam still goes up but never progress after Wave 7 (end wave) Spacebar does not make it end and it just keeps "flashing" in perpetuity. I've left the game running for 30 minutes and still the wave icon in upper right is just flashing Validated all 305…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Written By Hidden Gems Review : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38624426/, Follow me! Legndary Hoptile is a Tower Defense RPG game. Not sure why so many bad reviews, I enjoy this game so much that i'm tryng do all the achivements. An original and very challenging game about defend againts the demonic horde invading Ithaca, each part of your equipment has a skill so there is a big variety for use. Not seeing a good replay value but i'm in the half of the game with 10 hours on it so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and challenging (I'm on insane) but unfortunately unfinished. Why? You got set items- Arcana with 3-4 items per set. You get just 2 until the last 5 missions or so...no way to complete the set. the game feels like only half the maps are implemented. So half a game, should ONLY buy if half discounted. Otherwise the game is enjoyable. Kind of
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Way too much grind for my taste.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fun and I enjoyed it for the most part. It just does not feel complete. I don't know if I am missing something but I can't seem to complete most of the pieces of set gear.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legendary Hoplite definitely has some issues with optimization. I faced some bugs but the hole experience was good!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A TD game with a twist! The introduction of RPG elements such as upgradable loot and skills introduces a unique and addictive hook. If you enjoy the TD genre (or Plants vs Zombies), Legendary Hoplite is a game for you. Category Rating Description 🎮 Gameplay 7 Plays much like Plants vs Zombies, opposed to a traditional TD, with the addition of upgradable items and skills 📷 Graphics 7 Enemy animations are rougher than I’d like, but the setting is executed brilliantly 🎧 Audio 9 Your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game takes about 40 hours to complete (in beta test) and it is similar to Plants vs Zombies. In my opinion, the game the game is fairly priced for the content quality and quantity it provides, without taking into account the promised free expansions. Currently, it doesn't have a lot of replayability because enemies do not level up with the player. The game challenges you to experiment with various combinations of perks, items, units, upgrades, techniques etc, and it lets you change them…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad difficulty curve where it requires grinding over playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →idk why the game gets hate tbh. for a non AAA game, cheap $15(or $7 on sale)- this is a very good game for 20 hours. Yessss, it's not perfect and improvements should be made. But it is a clean, very artistic, wide range of enemy types game. Again, if this game was $60 it would be a different story, but for the cost of a lunch or dinner- this is a pretty fun and worth it game imo. One thing that really is annoying tho is the arcana items... like how TF do you get the other parts/pieces of it?…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately this is not a good game. The idea is interesting, essentially Plants vs Zombies set in Greek Mythology. However the implementation is extremely poor, it is unbalanced, boring, and a chore to play. The enemies you fight are extremely varied and interesting, the units you fight with are the complete opposite.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, I was initially frustrated, but here's the deal – the first levels leading up to the first boss act like a tutorial. After that, things get real. You have to experiment with your build and armies; otherwise, you're in for a tough time
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a nice idea, But it is so unbalanced and extremely grindy. We are talking doing levels hundreds of times to get your upgrades. Boss mechanics rarely work correctly, The medusa and Hydra being stand outs. I wouldn't buy it until it is much more polished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very good tower defense for it's price
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like Tower Defense Games this is a no brainer here is the first 30 minutes: https://youtu.be/xPRvDItiJtA It's like a bit of Plants Vs Zombies but more hardcore, with a whole bunch of loot, way more action rpg control. I only hope the dev will tone down the micromanagement a bit further.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was released on the same day as Persona and Suicide Squad – quite a bold move!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ARPG TD + units + challenging = Action packed spear throwing with various skills Strategically deploy units to help defend. Upgrade stats, units and equipment. Fight bosses and barely survive. Solid. [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/35180752-3-point-play/] Follow our curator for similar games
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're into tower defense, you'll likely find this one enjoyable
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I usually really like tower defence games but this is pretty flat and repetitive. Difficulty curve is fairly steep and not enjoyable. loot progression is confusing, items are all of the map for attributes. Just didnt click with me at all.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do you still hear the main menu theme?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Damn, I've played my fair share of tower defense games, but this one is truly something else
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →𝕋𝕙𝕖 𝕘𝕒𝕞𝕖'𝕤 𝕒𝕟 𝕦𝕟𝕗𝕚𝕟𝕚𝕤𝕙𝕖𝕕 𝕡𝕣𝕠𝕕𝕦𝕔𝕥... 𝕦𝕟𝕗𝕠𝕣𝕥𝕦𝕟𝕒𝕥𝕖𝕝𝕪! Legendary Hoplite starts off quite wonderful... A great opening, a unique artstyle, a nice voice-acting, an ancient greek setting and great tower-defense gameplay, but once I finished it, I realized; the game's sadly not finished. You play as Dio, protector of Ithaca, who, being the commander of the city gates, yields the responsibility of protecting it with his own life. A lot of legendary…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →LH is a brave attempt to disrupt the tower defence genre by adding in a 'hero' player character who you directly control alongside action-RPG style levelling and Diabloesque loot drops, wrapped in a gorgeous naive art style. Lots of lovely components, they just don't fit together very well. Fiddling around with defences and units while at the same time whipping between vertical lanes to rain fire on the countless advancing nasties is a headache. Loot's usefulness is massively tied to the skill…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has potential, but right now it is boring and tedious. My main two problems are: 1-> you can equip a lot of different items in each inventory slot (you have four), but those items also come with a skill that is very important to use if you want to progress. Now, if you want to keep a skill that you like while improving your items without having to grind you just cant, there are so many skills (and some are pretty boring) that you either farm a lot or each "new defense" you use a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do like this game, but there are a few issues. Firstly, I love the art and the gameplay, the music is pretty good too. The 18 hours i've played have all been enjoyable. However, this game is clearly not finished imo. There are currently 3 zones and you play the final boss in the third area and that's it. I genuinely thought my game was bugged or I was blind and missing something, but no it was just a lack of content. There are huge difficulty spikes, gear sets that are incomplete and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow, where to start? This game in itself is really good! The artstyle, the music, the enemy variants and tower customisations are all really done right and well! That is why I have to recommend this game. The fact that You can turn of the heavy metal boss music is a very welcome feature! Thanks a lot for adding this! ;) Now the negative: This game is like the Dark Souls of Lane Defense Games. Whenever You think You might have finally figured out a good and working strategy the next level…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun but only worth it on discount 50%+, as the game is only half-done, like other comments said, half of the set is implemented, half of the map is used. I enjoyed it for around 10 hours play and endured the rest hunting for the last achievement which is totally RNG-based and require grinding (collect 20 rare items). The difficulty spiked and I was frustrated enough to switch to easy and come back after finished the final boss with decent equipment and upgrades.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is OK, I don't understand why it is Mixed reviewed, the gameplay idea is pretty original, there is a story there, system of upgrades. Naaah, the game is OK.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not in this current state.. Pros: Mythology setting Weapon sets Some strategy variability Cons: Limited content / journey - ends in 3rd act, after 10 hours of gameplay Starting anew on higher difficulty is pointless, as there is no challenge and no rewards Legendary/Ancient weapons are obtained (I assume) as reward only through boss fights Overall - it can do nicely for some hours, but in a long run devs must think of something to add replaybility, otherwise - there is nothing to do after…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a good, fun game. If you're curious about the game, go try out the free demo at Legendary Hoplite: Arachne's Trial. Here's a direct link: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2738430/Legendary_Hoplite_Arachnes_Trial/ The game ramps up quite a bit after the tutorial, and can feel like a frustrating grind at times. My biggest issue with the game right now is that it is definitely unfinished, but it is not marked as early access or anything. Therefore, I cannot recommend this game at this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was hyped after trying the demo, and I'm not disappointed about the game. The game is flawed and devs nerfed it after only 2 days but still managed to complete it in hard. It lacks of towers and except if you're interested by achievements, you will only use the same combination from beginning till the end. Bosses are well designed for most of them, even they were frustrating (chapter 3 bosses are horrible to fight for the first time against them). A lot of different enemy units, each chapter…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i was so hype for this when it announced, but to be honest my experience with this game is not so good at this moment. The first boss is kinda hard for the equipment and stats that i have, the power of troops and main character are not high, actually sound like using egg to hit a rock. I think dev should manage to have more suitable way to get better equipment or higher stats upgrade with the troops.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →These folks collaborating with a Greek charity – mad respect for that!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game for the podcasts
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gave it a shot despite the other reviews. It's as they said: very grindy. Which wouldn't be bad if the game itself was actively fun.. but it's also not much fun as the missions go from far too easy to impossible in a second.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is actual asscheeks
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →funny damge, but no update long time maybe deadgame
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slightly Under-cooked; Still Acceptable Legendary Hoplite is kinda of a hard game to define since its a little bit of a bunch of genres. Fairly strategy light, Action-RPG tower defense-ish with randomized loot drops. Unfortunately, its fairly repetitive and unfinished in some ways. I see a bunch of reviews saying the excessive grinding/replaying levels is required. I did not find this to be the case playing each level on normal difficulty (which you can adjust on the fly at level select if…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game starts off as a generic towerish defense game. You clear some levels, mobs start doing some abilities etc but you're leveling up you troops and hero blah blah. Then comes the Satyrs. They decided to put in mobs that don't move down the lanes...... but in the middle of them and none of your troops or yourself can hit them. Whatever absolute ham sandwich that decided that's what they were going to use to make their game different from plants vs zombies.... really needs to understand…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fundamentally, had plenty of potential, but the game felt very janky and imbalanced. Felt like the game wasn't tested enough to make sure the game experience was fun. This game didn't need an in-depth rpg stat system. This only made the UI unnecessarily convoluted. Most of the stats they present are things you won't even think about. Each stat you increase is a very small amount that you won't even feel any difference between levels. Going through your selection of gear and tuning your stats…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR - Great game with potential, the loot, item and gold management needs work... Tutorials for certain boss encounters I think should be more descriptive. Played the demos and enjoyed these to showcase the game, it can get repetitive but honestly you'd expect that from a tower defence style game. The dialog and music I enjoyed and loved the interaction between missions and during boss encounters, the UI for the most part is clean and easy to understand. On later levels the pacing gets…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game to chill with. Worth the price!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Holy crap what a bad game. There was absolutely nothing enticing about moving forward past the intro tutorial and level 1. I mean, the good news is, if you don't like it, you should know pretty quick to get a refund. 0/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Giving a player more controll on the field is awesome! keepin you in the process so good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →you can change hard level in setting if the game too hard for you, changing army for better formation is required to finish this game easier. Highly recommend using Rock Thrower ; 3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Legendary Hoplite is a fun and challenging game that pays homage to the ancient Greek warriors. The game features strategic battles, where you must lead your hoplite soldiers to victory against various enemy units. The artwork and design of the game are visually appealing, and the gameplay is both engaging and addictive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game incorporates Greek mythology elements, and the gameplay is fantastic
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →like the visual style, reminds of hades but different ofcourse
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As other reviews have said, from Chapter 2 onwards the balance gets screwed up and you just get frustrated with it. It's like they did the demo well and then it was just a rush to get it released without testing it or they grew to hate the players and got petty with the design, who knows. But, in their defense, if you like challenges, you'll love this because it does challenge the player - to keep playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game was actually fun. I enjoyed it, even the inventory management is buggy on using controller. But I end up getting the stuck bug on NG+ that the stage didn't finish even all enemies are gone The game idea is not bad, but the game is so buggy. The UX is bad on controller even it's full controller support. The bugs that couldn't let player progress any further are critical, but no support from dev
