What people are saying
A short, emotional puzzle game that divides players on story and gameplay.
Many players praise the emotional story and creative puzzles, with one calling it "poignantly arresting" and another saying it told a story beautifully. The voice acting and artwork are also frequently commended. [3][23][24]
However, critics find the puzzles clunky and the story hackneyed. One player says the writing was "bad and another calls it diabetes-inducing. The gameplay is described as uninteresting" and "too basic." [29][36][28][30]

Something in my brain tells me that from a literary standpoint this saccharine monologue told within the dreams of a terminal cancer patient on her death-bed is shallow and driven primarily by the player’s emotions. But what I’ve come to find more and more lately as I’ve begun to take steps to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It seems like I've been choosing the games with the feels to play for a while. First Serena, then Cahors Sunset, and now Labyrinthine Dreams... This is starting to become a habit. I wouldn't like to seem like a tragedy junkie. I just wished to play an RPG maker game, and look what it has done to me: all teary eyed and big with the decision on Carpe Diem! In Labyrinthine Dreams, our protagonist is Beth; a young woman who is crippled with anxiety, due to the timeless death of her father. In many…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An A++ Game! Grandma Gamer here, I finished it in 3 hours with all achievies after just 2 playthroughs. But, the storyline is really something else. It is definitely poignantly arresting, in that it deals with serious issues like loss of health, dreams, family obligations, and whether our future is set in stone from the time we make those first adult choices after High School. Without spoiling the story, I think the most meaningful moments were the sky puzzle, realizing that my days were…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I suppose I'm not the target audience for this game. I didn't particularly enjoy the puzzles or the message/story. Positives: A few of the puzzles are neat, I enjoyed the final set of puzzles and the monster puzzles. Negatives: Most of the puzzles are uninteresting. Controls are laggy. Odd complaint for a puzzle game I know, but it results in inadvertant moves and since there's no undo you have to reset. Story was okay until the end, it seems to imply (end game spoiler) if you try hard…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As Beth you are left between life and death, you end up in a sort of limbo and must navigate mazes while you reflect on your life and try to escape a monster that seems bent on getting you. Labyrinthine Dreams is a pretty simple game dealing with life hardships and how the choices we make affect our lives: its gameplay is quite basic, as is the story, making it a decent game for those who enjoy these kind of puzzles. PROS: -decent story -while very cliched Beth is a good character and it's…

Difficult Achievement(s): No. Intro Labyrinthine Dreams is a puzzle game told in a narrative. Puzzles will match the setting and theme of the narrative, using a new rule each time. There are 5 types of puzzles in general, with 1 being used several times in between the other 4. Pros: - Different puzzle types - Autosaves - Nice storytelling Cons: - It's hard to tell…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(This game was a gift from a friend) A short but well-made puzzle game, Labyrinthine Dreams touches on some of the tougher and more emotional aspects of life such as the death of a loved one and terminal disease. The assets all seem to be original (please correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any of them are pre-packaged RPGMaker) and the music is lovely. The voice acting was a really nice touch as well to bring it all together. I can't say much about it without ruining the story, but…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →4/10 Review - It's got an interesting and moving story, but otherwise the game play and puzzles are too basic compared to other games out there so I wouldn't recommend this game. Achievements - The hardest achievement is completing all the mazes in one run without resetting. The game auto saves but if you really get stuck Alt F4 will reset without harming the achievement.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not going to write a lengthy review for a minor RPG Maker game published in 2015. However, I will say a few things. The writing was bad. Really bad. Mind you, that's not really all that surprising for an RPG Maker game. What is surprising is that they actually hired voice actors to deliver the bad dialogue. Ouch! A more economical use of the budget probably would have been to just hire a better writer instead. I'm a big believer in the idea that, when it comes to games, the gameplay…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short adventure, I didn't love that much the graphics in the artwork/cutscenes (especially people and backgrounds could have been drawn way better but maybe it's just my taste), but story-wise it's nice and it has a dozen of challenging puzzles :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've never played any games like this one before and I'll say that this game just blew me away... I loved the story of the game and made me want to keep playing (Even though it was short) I loved the puzzles in it! Made me think and retry quite a few times but eventually I got it! Beat it in 1 hour and 20 minutes so it is short but it was really fun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh. This is a marble rolling game with a character telling an emo tale. Like I said Meh.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Uninteresting puzzles and hackneyed story. completely secondary
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1. This game has a million problems in terms of gameplay, plot and dialogue but it's good, I say, it's good! 2. It's short but complete. This is a good choice if you have a free evening and aren't ready to commit to dozens of hours of gameplay and just want to drink a few beers and hold a controller. 3. The million problems I mentioned in 1, they are made up for by the actor who plays Beth, the main character. I can't find her name anywhere (it was in the final credits but I didn't write it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short and simplistic. Doesn't really bring anything new or interesting to the table.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ultimately, my biggest issues with this game come from two sources. First, the gameplay is just so clunky and slow. There was multiple times while playing that I needed to move in a straight line for a long time and ended up zoning out, since it takes about 1 second to move a single tile, and overshot where I needed to go and needed to reset the map. This led to me just getting more bored with the game and encountering this issue more often. I don't believe this is a limitation to the RPG…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Labyrinthine Dreams is an adventure puzzle game (maze, funnily enough) in which you follow and guide Beth, a young woman on death's door, through the distorted maze of (parts of) her life. These different parts are made up of different maze 'types', so the puzzle aspect remains relatively fresh throughout - it is only a 1-2 hour game. These puzzles are interrupted by the.. metaphorical representation of her disease/death and her trying to escape this in its own series of mazes. So, while…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun, relaxing puzzle/maze game with story parts keeping up with the puzzles! Challenging if you don't pay attention to the rules, however, so no skipping dialogue and zipping ahead! Well, still a challenge in places, but in a fun way, not a "zomg, I've headbutted a hole in my wall!" kind of way, like if you ignore the rules instructions. This is a short but enjoyable maze-puzzle game with trading cards and 7 semi-easy achievements. It needs at least 2 playthroughs, with the first to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Puzzle game with an involving story of how a girl overcomes her demons.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game wasn't really my favorite. It wasn't bad by any means, but the puzzles could be a little frustrating at times and the story wasn't engaging enough to make up for the frustrating elements of the game. If you really like puzzle games, then it might still be worth a try, but otherwise, this probably isn't a game you'll enjoy much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Other reviews have this pretty much on the nose. It's a good way to kill an hour or two. The puzzles are short and aren't going to leave you stumped for long. Voice acting is better than I expected for a game of this price, and overall it's pretty well put together. If you can pick this up for $1, it's definitely worth it. Hopefully those involved in the creation of the game will continue to improve their skills and put out better and longer offerings in the future, tl:dr; If you like casual…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →About the game +This game is reallly interesting: the scenarios are mazes!!You must get to the end but each maze have a different rule that makes them unique :)! Honestly, I think that's great, because it's challenging, fun and a really creative way to make you go on the story. About the story +It's all about Beth and,we could say, life itselft. Simple and well tell, this game presents a beautiful story that can make you think a little ;) About the music: +Really relsxing and nice :D! Cons…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know what I expected when I started playing this game, other than a regular JRPG game... That was not at all what I got. Instead I entered into a journey of someone "fighting" for their life. The rules change often (not in a bad way). There are multiple types of puzzles to work your way through, though nothing really truly original. The story was interesting enough, even though the pacing of reading through the story bothered me. I can say that the game was interesting to play, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine Sokoban, but you can't turn left. Аnd you can't turn on the spot. And there is no visible square grid. And some of the obstacle sprites don't provide clear shapes. And your character is two squares tall. And it's made with RPGMaker. And you are dead inside.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those games that like... It's kind of a mind ♥♥♥♥. It'll really make you take a moment to step back and inventory your life. May you not have the demons to unpack that I do.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Labyrinthine Dreams is a short puzzle game where, as the title implies you will be navigating labyrinths in various dreams. The different puzzles string together a touching tale of one young woman's life-or-death battle against illness. Summary The game begins with the protagonist, Beth floating peacefully within a bubble. The end of her life is approaching, and she has decided to take a few minutes to reflect on her life's journey. Overall Labyrinthine Dreams is a great short…

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I usually avoid RPGMaker games, because a lot of them tend to be rather amateurish on either the narrative or the game design front. I probably wouldn’t have picked this one up either if it weren’t included in a Humble Bundle some time ago, but I’m actually glad it was, since I enjoyed it a lot. The narrative is a bit overoptimistic, but I like the central message of not giving up hope. And what sells this is that this message is implemented into the games puzzle mechanics as well, so it’s not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is not awful, but there are several problems with it that keep me from recomanding it. The first set of puzzles were confusing (They said that these would change, so this may be fixed later), the art is less than impressive, and the writing is nothing special. The puzzles over all were not anythings special, but not awful either. Grab on sale only if curious.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are only a couple of mazes and they're simplistic, the storyline is infuriating, and the game options make it seem like they picked some random computer science undergrad off the street and asked them to make a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a cute little game. Some of the puzzles are difficult in the beginning, but after you get the hang of it, it gets easier. And the backstory is nice. Perfect for a lazy evening.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WTF movement does not work correctlly!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A wonderful example of the kinds of games that don't rely on twitch skills and tell a moving story. The perfect game and message for the holiday season.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Labyrinthine Dreams is truly a game that is well deserving of its “Very Positive”, as of this writing, review rating. The game has a story that a lot of people could relate to in one way or another, with a lot of depth. Don’t believe those saying the game and the story are disconnected, as they’re actually really tightly connected on a very deep level. I can’t get into it more than that without giving too much away, but if you wander around and use (Z Key) the random objects in the very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm going to go ahead and recommend against this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →oh boy. I was not prepared for the ride offered by this game. Going into the story not knowing what to expect, I thought I was in store for a light-hearted tale. I was immediately proven wrong, watching the story unravel as my heart sunk lower and lower into my chest. But in the end, I really enjoyed the message, which I interpret as "Sometimes, all it takes is one person to keep you going." Great job.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →PROS: - tradding cards to collect... - nice music - nice voice acting - good riddle design - very nice drawn picture - easy 100% Achievements CONS: - ...but you need to grind the last one - short game CONCLUSION: I would recommend this game for finishing once. The story is nothing special, but not too bad either. But the real strength of the game lies inside of the riddles. They\'re very clever made and you need to think really well, to finish each challenge. The game never get\'s too hard,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is based on puzzles, which are based on the story told in between the puzzles. I actually didn't give that much attention to the story but these cut scenes after every second puzzle gave me the needed atmosphere for the game. The game is not long. It's beatable in like 2-3 hours. Considering the fact that the game only costs a few dollars, it is really well made in my opinion. Conclusion: Good game if you like puzzles and want to try less popular games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Con: - DA quality art - Stale voice acting that could as well be Microsoft Sam, during the climax it's the same tone as the intro. - Going to menu to turn off the voice doesn't work, it requires starting a new game - Achievement for replaying game (that can be overcome by either dieing or alt-F4) BUT MOST OF ALL --- Diabetes-inducing story about overcoming an illness through sheer force of will. Nice gutpunch for all the people that lost a loved one *cough* lost twin to cancer *cough*.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short and sweet - I loved every minute of this one! *PROS* - Great voice acting - Wonderful artwork (Rye always does a good job) - Fleshed out, emotional story *CONS* - Puzzles were a little confusing at times (nothing you don't get a hold of - but there were moments when I was just like "what am I even doing?") I definitely recommend picking this up - it's only a few dollars and really satisfies if you're looking to connect with a game (or pull your hair out if puzzles frustrate you)!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastically beautiful game - one of those short and simple ones that you never forget. It told a story beautifully, and drew you into the character's experience with its creative use of puzzles. I thought the execution was perfect with how the puzzles helped to tell the story, and so it all blended together into one great gaming experience. It somewhat reminded me of To The Moon, so if you liked that one, you'll like this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game doesn't work on Windows 10 and requires updates. It looks for specific fonts not included with the game package and the OS and crashes on launch. Developers should not be publishing games for Windows that don't run on Windows, and they certainly have no right to be taking money for them.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some games just are not worth playing ... they are more frustrating than anything .... this was one of those games :(

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Labyrinthine Dreams is a very short but enjoyable puzzle adventure. It tries to be deep, presenting the player with a thought provoking story and, in some ways it succeeds. The story does get a little lost at parts but for the most part it is very well portrayed. Back this up with classic style graphics and a few different movement based puzzles and you've got a pretty good game. Get it. You'll enjoy it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very short, but straight to the point puzzle game. First of all, what beautiful graphics. I had little faith in RPG Maker as a game engine, but this game is aesthetically very pleasing. The puzzles are very challenging and are what drives the story 90% of the time, i did get stuck quite a few times but I just couldnt give up, I really cared about the main character. The protagonist is a woman struggling with depression after a lot of ♥♥♥♥ goes on in her life, this game can really get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice little game, story and puzzel driven maybe a little bit short... Oh and before i forget it, the soundtrack is very peacfull
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Labyrinthine Dreams is like dating someone who makes you cry but you’re still texting them at 3 AM like “u up?” First 5 minutes I’m lost, literally and emotionally, but the puzzles be dragging me deeper into the void. Every puzzle makes me wanna delete my life but then the story SLAPS me with feels I didn’t ask for. It’s like I’m in a toxic relationship with a game and I LOVE IT. 11/10 would suffer again and question all my decisions.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very short and sweet (took me almost 1.5 hours to complete due to some backtracking that I needed to do). I liked the audiovisual side of it as well as the story. The gameplay is very simple, although if you want the achievements painlessly, I highly recommend using a guide for the puzzles because some of those left me scratching my head at times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a surprise, this game may look boring and simple but the story is more than great (a good thought about life) and the puzzles mechanics are great. While knowing about our protagonist u must complete different scenarios by solving them in a certain way: u have direction restriction puzzles, another where the boxes u’ve walked on fall down, one like the pokemon games in which u walk on ice, another in which u can only move following some arrow directions and the demon’s levels. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love finding a good RPGMaker game. Some of the tilesets are default, some aren't. The kicker with this game is it is a puzzle game, not an RPG. The first puzzle you can't turn left, there are demon puzzles where the demon moves two feet toward you while you can only move 1 foot, so you need to strategize movements, there are puzzles where you can only go directions of arrows on the road, and another where you are on tiles that disappear after you step on them and you need to step on them all,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though made in RPG Maker, this is less of an RPG, and more of a puzzle game. Decent gameplay if you like labyrinth puzzles. Pixel graphics seems like generic RPG Maker stuff. There's some original "cutscene" art, though. Soundtrack was fitting, but forgettable. Story was okay. Nothing big or new in any way, but I liked the message of it. Playing through the story would probably take you about 1-1.5 hours without a guide. (I used a guide because I just wanted to get through the game quickly,…
