Kikujiro
Brash, loudmouthed and opportunistic, Kikujiro is the unlikely companion for Masao who is determined to see the mother he has never met. The two begin a series of adventures which soon turns out to be a whimsical journey of laughter and tears with a wide array of surprises and unique characters along the way. From TMDB

unlabelledView post →I think my favorite Takeshi Kitano is Kikujiro, because the film stops for a half an hour just to have the characters play with a child, and you don’t see many films in which the characters are just having fun.
unlabelledView post →fun little incident from this concert Performer: "We're gonna play a non-Ghibli song, this is from the movie Kikujiro, has anyone seen that film?" Me, loudly, expecting at least one other person in the building to have seen the film: "WOO!" *DEAD SILENCE OTHER THAN MY VOICE ECHOING*
unlabelledView post →Shoutout to the Avoca String Quartet for playing Joe Hisaishi’s Kikujiro score last night at St Andrews church, made me cry! Now if I could only get a vinyl and Blu-ray release of the film to stock in the shop! littledeercomics.ie
unlabelledView post →If anyone wants to see what this is actually like, watch the film NATSU NO KIKUJIRO. Tells you everything you need to know.
unlabelledView post →Winter scenery outside, not snowed in as some of you are, but watching The Summer of Kikujiro might be as anachronistically weird as me thinking putting in a modern movie, when it's from the last century and it's still been recorded from TV like in the ancient days. #NowWatching #FilmSky #Japanuary
unlabelledView post →I'm going with maybe an unconventional choice: Kikujiro. I certainly wouldn't say it's "the best Japanese film," but it hit a sweet spot no other movie has for me.
unlabelledView post →#pianoroo here’s a Joe Hisaishi song, from the movie Kikujiro here’s Summer youtu.be/GV2DMcHgZb4
unlabelledView post →What's a movie that you really loved while watching it, but it became an absolute, bonafide favorite by the ending? To me, it's gotta be 'Kikujiro'. I absolutely adore this movie, but the ending was what made it a perfect masterpiece. It stuck the landing, and tied the whole thing together.

If you haven't seen this whimsical film about a young boy and his unlikely friend venturing out to find the boy's estranged mother and the characters they meet along the way, I highly recommend checking it out. ❤️❤️❤️

unlabelledView post →This is the period that really cemented his reputation. Kids Return, this and Kikujiro is as good a 3 movie run as anyone can expect to have.

unlabelledView post →Yes, nearly rewatched that one last night. 'Hanna Bi' ('Fireworks') is probably his best gangster movie along with 'Kikujiro'. 'Zatoichi' is very good too if you've not seen it. He's such a uniquely different writer/director, plus has such screen presence as an actor.
unlabelledView post →Hey, @domkellywriter.bsky.social, @jakeparappahainey.bsky.social, @discodave75.bsky.social, @corporatecopout.bsky.social - did you ever watch a Beat Takeshi film called Kikujiro? Takeshi popped up on my timeline and I suddenly started thinking about it again
unlabelledView post →I also highly recommend Takeshi Kitano's Kikujiro, a completely different style of movie! Do them as a double feature!
unlabelledView post →Kikujiro was a great pick to watch while sick in bed today. Very sweet movie.

unlabelledView post →Such a good film! I go back to it whenever I can but my go to Takashi Kitano film is Kikujiro.
unlabelledView post →Kikujiro (1999) directed by and starring Takeshi Kitano, bringing his yakuza character skills into an adult-child road trip movie but with the sharp edges left on en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kikujiro
unlabelledView post →In the same way my shop never feels complete without a Laura Park comic, or the film section incomplete until I can stock Kikujiro someday.
unlabelledView post →For the second time ever, I have heard Joe Hisaishi’s Summer, the theme from the movie Kikujiro, played on a public piano today.
unlabelledView post →Kikujiro was once my absolute comfort movie and also Hana Bi was an all time favorite very early on. I have never watched A Scene by the Sea, don’t know why. Maybe I like this one even more now.
unlabelledView post →Know what? I'm gonna repost some stuff that I've made that I'm pretty proud of. Starting with the most recent, Kikujiro is a movie that hits my emotions every single time I watch it and this explores why. www.moviejawn.com/home/2025/7/...
unlabelledView post →Kikujiro is an easy pick for this selection — summer vibes, road movie energy, Kitano’s offbeat humor, and those wonderfully quirky characters. A personal favorite.
unlabelledView post →113) Kikujiro (1999, movie) i am a very smart person for making this and broken rage my first two kitanos but yeah this is pretty good, some lovely vibes but sadly for me it kinda peaks with 40 minutes of movie still left, beautiful ending tho and the joe hisaishi score is fucking spectacular
unlabelledView post →Yo so I've watched everything from Violent Cop to Kikujiro at this point do I watch brother despite people saying it's Takeshis worst movie also what's his post 90s out put like?
unlabelledView post →Kikujiro (1999) Could have picked a lot of Takeshi's movies, but this was my first. I got the soundtrack as a raffle prize, and it blew my mind. And then the movie was this thing where like if Kubrick made a heartwarming road movie that refused to lets anyone off the hook and you still love it.
unlabelledView post →Just so everyone knows how badly we’re behind on our foreign language film watching, the last Japanese film we saw was Kikujiro. In the theater. On opening weekend.
unlabelledView post →Omg and I have to say for music also Princess Mononoke and a non-anime movie he made the music for, Kikujiro.
unlabelledView post →It's definitely a good film man, would easily rank it in my top five movies by Beat. I prefer his stuff like Hana-bi or Sonatine for sure but Kikujiro does tug the heart strings like very few films do. But yes man, it do be like this when I'm asked to summon a DVD from my collection.

unlabelledView post →Kikujiro This film is beautiful. Every shot feels so intentional and impactful. I found the narrative a little rambling, but I think that added to the authenticity of the tragedy of the boy's summer. And, of course, Joe Hisaishi's soundtrack is incredible.

unlabelledView post →I highly recommend Kikujiro, a funny and heart warming film about lost summers and Japanese mafia.
unlabelledView post →Today we watched Kikujiro (1999) It's a jp drama comedy #movie about a young boy searching for his mother during summer holidays. In this quest he is looked after by a gangster like man who isn't the best at looking after kids. ^^; Along the way they came across all kind of bizzare situations. +
unlabelledView post →It makes me sad when conversations about Kitano's work start and end with Sonatine. It's a great film, but i would never want to live in a world without Hana-bi, A Scene by the Sea, or Kikujiro. I personally will hold Getting Any? amongst his best works, but I realize that is not the common opinion.
unlabelledView post →Kikujiro is THE yakuza movie masterpiece.
unlabelledView post →Kikujiro I've recently watched quite a few Takeshi Kitano films. While he's best known for his violent, absurdist Yakuza dramas, my favorite so far is ironically this very uncharacteristic dramedy road movie, about a boy traveling through Japan to find his estranged mother. youtu.be/EhUsQvoAeAY?...
unlabelledView post →One of my favorite Joe Hisaishi tracks (Kikujiro no Natsu) got reimagined as a short film. Pretty simple, sweet, and nostalgic! Also just another great reasons to listen to the track, if you haven't. It's beautiful. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d926...

unlabelledView post →Takeshi Kitano is indispensable when discussing Japanese cinema. While he is one of Japan’s top comedians, his work in the film industry is highly regarded worldwide. If you’re feeling emotionally drained, why not watch his film Kikujiro no Summer? #takeshikitano #JapaneseArt #movie #MadeInJapan
unlabelledView post →Omg a totally underrated Takeshi Kitano movie that gets kind of lost under the magnitude of movies like Hana-bi or the sweetness of Kikujiro but my god, what a wonderful movie
