Kung Fu Hustle
It's the 1940s, and the notorious Axe Gang terrorizes Shanghai. Small-time criminals Sing and Bone hope to join, but they only manage to make lots of very dangerous enemies. Fortunately for them, kung fu masters and hidden strength can be found in unlikely places. Now they just have to take on the entire Axe Gang. From TMDB

60 of 173 · most liked firstMovie recommendation for tonight, Kung Fu Hustle I'm always adamant that the best parodies have a love of what they're parodying, and nowhere is this more evident than Stephen Chow's glorious and manic send up of Kung Fu movies. It's impossible to not have fun watching this.

unlabelledView post →Everyone knows about Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Hustle being absolutely full of references to classic Eastern and Western cinema. But no one really talks about Stephen Chow directly referencing the game Asura's Wrath in his later movie Journey To The West, so I edited this together.

unlabelledView post →More fan art with Turkey's Yusuf Dikec. (That film reference meme is the Kung Fu Hustle landlady, such a great film)
unlabelledView post →I might just be an idiot, but I find the whole dramatic climax and conclusion of Kung Fu Hustle genuinely moving. Like, the movie is definitely a bunch of goofy comedy adventure shit, but I sincerely believe it's also profound.
unlabelledView post →you know how directors have trouble with endings, they roll through the first three reels in fine form but then the landing is a little wobbly? Not Tarkovsky a film can be wobbling along in a discursive way, then the ending hits u like Stephen Chow landing the Buddha Palm in 'Kung Fu Hustle' 📽️

unlabelledView post →This list sucks so badly that it’s almost not worth commenting on at all, but I’m just going to say that as a rule any global “best comedy movies of all time” that doesn’t include Kung Fu Hustle, a single Jackie Chan movie or *any other film from Asia* is obvious bullshit variety.com/lists/best-c...

unlabelledView post →This is a fun action film on its own, but if ya versed in martial artist films, and more specifically Hong Kong action films, you're in for even more of a treat. Will never not recommend Kung Fu Hustle.

unlabelledView post →Kung Fu Hustle Possibly my new favorite movie. An awesome blend of intense martial arts action and slapstick humor. The fight choreography was insanely good, too. It's like a live-action Looney Toons episode, and it's every bit as fun as that sounds. Def recommend

unlabelledView post →Does it have to be strictly a Kung Fu film? Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is right there with Kung Fu Hustle. But Black Belt Jones and Enter The Dragon are sublime. However my favorite film to WATCH every time is Raw Force, which can also be a zombie movie, and a Cameron Mitchell movie.

unlabelledView post →TRIVIA: ‘Shaolin Soccer’ was referenced in Stephen Chow's next film ‘Kung Fu Hustle’ in 2004. During his first appearance in that film, Chow encounters a few boys playing a game of soccer. He stomps on a soccer ball after doing a few tricks, deflating it, and yells, "No more soccer!" (IMDB) 🖤
unlabelledView post →Absolutely! I can't remember where, but I once heard someone say that a good parody is still a good example of the thing it pokes fun at, like how Kung-Fu Hustle is both a good martial arts film and a good parody OF a martial arts film. Scary Movie doesn't like nor understand horror, and it shows

unlabelledView post →This movie came out before mo lei tau was fully a thing, but the basic elements are here, like they are in Fantasy Mission Force, which I showed years ago. Steven Chow's film Kung Fu Hustle is full of mo lei tau and also features the star of this movie: Siu-Lung "Bruce" Leung. #riffotronic
unlabelledView post →Kung Fu Hustle is such a friggin great film. The choreography, the humour, the music, it all just works together so well. I don't know much kung fu, and I'm long out of practice, but I at least know the feeling of entering horse stance, making the bridge with your hands, and doing the forms.
