Intergalactic Fishing is one of those games where the gameplay has been trivialized so much that there's hardly any player interaction. The main story is fairly dull since all the events are delivered through plain text and you're mostly just clicking on the things that the game tells you to click on. Which would be fine if the fishing gameplay was good, but it's not. There's one cool idea with the lure building system. By arranging building blocks on a grid, you can manipulate a number of…

When what you think will be a fun little dither becomes a few dozen hours.... This is maybe THE most chill game I have ever played, and I don't even like fishing. Don't be put off either by the super low-fi graphics and feel, they belie a significant amount of depth and simulation in this aptly named fishing story-RPG. What seems initially as a set of simple mechanics soon sprawl into dozens of activities around a silly and fairly short main quest about saving fish in lakes across the…

So chill man. Put on some tunes, craft a lure and hook the dopamine. Definitely worth picking up for anyone who is a fan of fishing mini games, logic puzzles and proc gen content. Story-line is a tutorial but I'm happy just chilling in my boat and fishing the galaxy. Gameplay is: - Crafting lures to catch fish - Travelling to a lake and trial and error-ing your way to landing fish and scanning it's data (Environment etc) - Taking part in tournaments and fish bounties - Catching fish and…

Review after at least 30 minutes: Intergalactic Fishing (25 hours at time of writing.) Did I enjoy it? - Absolutely! Will I come back to it? - Without a doubt, there's a lot here to dig into. Was it worth my time? - Definitely! It's such a relaxing and engaging title. Would I recommend it? - This is definitely a niche game, but if you enjoy fishing and exploration/discovery this is absolutely worth checking out! Good times. Along with the low res graphics, the game can seem shallow early on with few controls and easy to catch fish at first, but the game has surprisingly deep mechanics, and keeps amazing stats. It's odd at first but fun to craft lures. Finding new lakes and researching them is fun. Trying to figure out how to catch each fish is engaging with many variables such as time of day, depth, multiple lure characteristics, reel speed, etc. And they are not all the same - each fish reacts…

I never thought I'd enjoy a fishing game this much. It looks simple on the surface, but there is a surprising amount going on under the hood to simulate each fish. Should run on just about any computer still capable of booting and takes up less than 100MB, so it's definitely one of the games I'm keeping installed to play here and there. My only "issue" is that so far, the fish just look like normal fish. Was expecting to see some weird alien fish, especially in the procedurally generated…

This game was reviewed using Version 1.4.7. Your experience on other versions may vary. Short Answer: A fishing simulator with some light RPG elements and a ton of depth hiding behind its simplistic appearance. It sets itself apart through its meticulous approach to tracking down fish and crafting lures, but this can understandably turn away players that just want to focus on the fishing itself. One of my favorite games this year, though it's not a new game. There's a learning curve at first, then a game story, then an endless mode where you can keep fishing, exploring, joining tournaments and leveling up. The simple graphics and sound scapes are effective. Lure design and very specific details about each fish species make for a surprising amount of strategy and variety. You can put as much thought as you like into your gear and where you fish and for what, then you can just fish…

I am very much a lover of fishing in games. This game satisfies that itch perfectly. While graphically the game is very simple -- this imo works well for it. It's a fishing simulation game first and foremost. There's an indepth lure system, procedural generated lakes, handcrafted lakes, and tons of different fish. I played around 5 hours today, and man -- this game rules. This games been sitting on my wishlist for a long time -- and I'm glad I finally decided to pick it up. I do think…

Intergalactic Fishing is a minimal graphics fishing game released by indie developer Boat Anchor Games in 2020. If you enjoy fishing games in any of the many games that feature them, Intergalactic Fishing is that fleshed out and given enough depth to stand on its own. The premise of the game is that the lake you call home is facing a mysterious problem. All the fish that live in it are beginning to die. In order to find out what’s happening, you have to investigate the ULT Corporation, which…

Somehow this is the only fishing game I know that manages to perfectly nail the feeling of being out on the lake or on the shoreline. Everything about the different ecology systems to the lure designer feels... It has an unexpected level of depth that makes it feel a little too real sometimes--dissecting the fish feels me with a little guilt I feel harvesting a real fish, but it's necessary for understanding and respecting a species. You can just really tell the developers care a lot about…

Two words: Character Creator. Dice-roll player portraits? What were you thinking? Choose your name. Now close your eyes and throw darts for your player's appearance. Does this matter as much as I think it does? I just want to cast a line. I can't assume laziness from a game of this depth, so is it a message? Maybe it's a hidden time-sink to inflate player activity. A+ for everything else so far, but please, remedy this! *Edit: 4-5 hours to roll about 4 or 5 acceptable player portraits.…

Not enough feedback on why you aren't catching fish -- I'd much rather there were integrated feedback systems so you knew why fish weren't biting, but -- at least at the beginning, I never got any further -- it just seems too hit and miss (and it is so very heavily weighted on miss). Feels too much like I'm trying to learn how to play darts while blindfolded.

behold: the comfiest fishing game on the market today and it can run on a toaster. or a steam deck, if you prefer. i was honestly really pleasantly surprised with this, despite the very simple controls and visual aesthetic, theres lots of little system at play to keep you engaged; of course theres the obvious things such as certain fish requiring you to use a specific reel in speed, or a specific lure, or to travel to specific parts of the map, but then you have more unique wrinkles such as…

One of the best games in my Steam Library, without a doubt. It takes a little bit of work to get into it, and we're talking about 20 minutes or so, and suddenly you realise how deep this games goes. Once you run through the brief storyline you end up with an end-game that lasts for ages, and you realise why you were so attracted to this game. Also, it's perfect on the Steam Deck with a few tweaks to the controls (use the mouse + wasd scheme and tweak it to your own playstyle).

I've been playing fishing games for almost 30 years now and consider myself a fan of the genre. But fishing games can vary greatly in both quality and entertainment factor. Some can look beautiful but ultimately not be a lot of fun to play. Some can look pretty rough but be a great time. Thankfully, Intergalactic Fishing fits neither of those descriptions. While it is a game with simple graphics, they are very effective and look really good in their own right, but what's more important is that…

It's ok but it takes too long for fish to bite. If you have a lure that is perfectly tailored to a fish and you cast in the right spot during high feeding time you should get a bite in a few seconds every time. You don't, it can be multiple minutes before a perfect cast gets a bite, and even then it's often the wrong fish. The lure crafting system would be cool but it's mostly annoying to interact with since you're trying to make a specific thing while solving a really obtuse puzzle. You…

Intergalactic Fishing, developed and published by Boat Anchor Games, is a unique and surprisingly deep indie simulation that transforms the quiet pastime of fishing into a multidimensional, data-driven adventure across the cosmos. Now that I've finished the main story, the side quests, and have all the best gear, I still love this game because it's so relaxing to jump into on the fly. I'm working towards stretch goals like beating the community records that are kept track of through the official discord. The largest of fish ever caught is also tracked by a leaderboard in-game. Don't let the top down 2d graphics fool you. This is an amazing fishing game that isn't like all the others. I've been looking for a unique fishing game that stands out from the norm, and I think I found it. It's an exploration fishing game with sci-fi thrown in. Deceptive in looks but let me tell you there is so much more to this game than meets the eye. Intergalactic Fishing turns the act of fishing into an art, each lake is a puzzle to be solved: do I have the correct lure? am I fishing at the right time of day? am I fishing in the right water depth? etc. Does it take itself too seriously? In the sense that IRL fishing is nowhere near as much of a puzzle to be solved? Yes, it does. Is this the best fishing game on the market hands down? Also yes.…

This is the procedurally-generated fishing game I never knew I wanted. So you hoon around in a little boat, through an infinite array of lakes, trying to catch the random fishes within. The game starts off with a satisfying "main quest" story, but eventually unshackles you to explore at your leisure. The RPG/progression system is really satisfying, like Terraria, where you catch bigger/rarer fish, allowing you to upgrade your boat and gear, which leads to more impressive catches. You can…

Cool concept, and fairly relaxing if you're in the right mindset, but I often found myself either frustrated or bored or both. Catching fish is just a stat check on your rod and lure, almost no skill involved. It has that release day No Mans Sky feel. Plenty of cool ideas, but none are fully realised and what is here feels bare bones. Except the lure customization, that's neat. It doesn't matter what lake, what fish, what objective, it all feels the same to play. Which is fine for a…

Great game with a friendly developer. This game does one mechanic amazingly well - a large portion of the progression in this game is purely informational: you learn more about what fish are in a lake and what might be required to catch them, as and you fill out your in-game log about the fish, your ability as a player to catch them increases, but only due to what you now know, not due to any statistical changes (e.g. you learn a specific fish likes blue lures, so you start using those to…

If you enjoy fishing in games, this is the best I’ve come across. It’s really engaging to experiment with different parts of a lake and tweak lures to try to catch fish you don’t know much about. If that sounds fun to you, you’ll probably love this game, but if you don’t like the idea of waiting a while to get a bite, or need the game to tell you exactly how to catch each fish, you’ll probably be frustrated with this title.

Back in my day, there was only START NEW GAME and you were ready to go. Nowadays, developers need to ABSOLUTELY explain everything, and, if that isn't enough, put long and long and long lines and dialogue choices with clever jokes that aren't really clever, and barely jokes. As a result, it becomes tiresome to play even before finishing the tutorial.
