Before I go into a lengthy critique, and I assure you it will take a bit, let me say this for myself, for you the reader and also for the developer. This red thumbs down is all too easy to confuse with hatred and anger. I promise you, I'm not screaming into my computer as I write this. I don't hate this product or the people who made it. I…

In Imagine Earth you play as what feels to be no one while simultaneously controlling the levers of an entire private colony operation company (or... small private venture funded by the state). You are made to feel like nobody because your existence in constantly having the limelight taken away by other characters which you are dragged along by for the sake that you get to work in their next operation like an unpaid intern. Your name is shown in some of the dialogues,…

Initial Review Thanks Valve for giving me the opportunity to get a refund and allowing me to write a review. These kind of shady practices should not be supported in any way by Valve. 3rd party analytics on-by-default (or "opt-out") should be part of a 3rd party EULA posted on the store page, so the buyer knows their data is sent to another entity before having the chance to opt out. Here's the post I made on the game community forums.. That…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had wanted this game for ages and finally got it for a decent price. It really isn't what I thought it was. It's not really a colony builder as such it's more of a plunder the planet as quickly as possible before your competitors do it first. You build "cities" and the people generate income in the form of taxes but the main aim is harvesting resources and selling them for profit. The problem is that you are doing exactly the same thing over and over and over, there is no depth to the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine Earth game. This game is Anno in space. You get to settle a planetoid. Its a real-time game, not turn based. There are four speed settings and pause. It is a single player experience. With the Galaxies DLC (recommended, infact the only way I have played the game) you get to do a run of 5 or more planets (you decide) versus three other "Corporations" (this game's civilizations). Each planet in the galaxy is played and you finish with a certain number of victory points compared to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a strategy game more than a "make it look nice" colony-builder, I think if you just want to build a beautiful city, this is probably not a game for you. If you're more into the strategic side, it's great! There's a demo you can try out. The art is beautiful, voice acting is okay, enemy AI is good. The campaign didn't convince me personally (although it's good to start there, at least the first 1-2 planets, because I think it contained the tutorial), but free game and weekly challenges…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well developed but no real substance and feels empty and unrewarding, also boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slow, limited, grindy city builder. Clearly they put a big effort on it, but the game itself isn't fun for much time. While I don't mind graphics being cartoonish, all buildings look kind of similar. The game becomes too repetitive and your screen late game has so many notifications that it just becomes overwhelming and not fun.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's okay. Reminds me of Offworld trading company. They really shove the Capitalism = bad, sustainability = good down your throat though. Especially when your goal is to rip resources out of the ground as fast as possible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →tl;dr: Worth a solid 20 hours of gameplay if you're into city building/management/terraforming games. It's very laid back compared to similar games, but has some minor UI issues. This game is REALLY well polished. It's very pretty, and once you're used to the endless triangles and the art style, everything looks great, whether you're building a green paradise or have had a nuclear meltdown. All biomes have their own unique vegetation, every building has a couple of upgrades, and even if it's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is serviceable, but it’s buried under relentless, kindergarten-style moralizing about sustainability and anti-capitalist themes. This heavy-handed approach completely undermines what could have been an otherwise enjoyable experience—and is by far its biggest flaw.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a colony sim it's open ttd alpha-centauri. They could probably sell more copies marketing the game as what it is.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the end result if you put together Spore with Rise of Nations (low-key, though). Imagine Earth is a visually pretty and very interactive planet-building game with customizable planets, tech research, city advancements, aliens and even global warming. Random weather events, drone attacks, and other events keep it interesting throughout. The game play is pretty good if you like strategy -- I was sold when I saw how you could just turn the planet and build multiple cities, harvest…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is a ton of fun, from a chill and build perspective. Lots to do on the different campaign missions. After the campaign though there isnt a lot besides like setting up custom planets and challenges on single planets. I'd love to see something like an open world to play to. Like lots to do like the campaign but just from lots of planets and other corporations. Be cool to pick from multiple planets and sort of upgrade your corporations as you go. The visuals are pretty nice and not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a difficult one, but ultimately I can recommend Imagine Earth, at least for a campaign playthrough (which, looking at my playtime, takes about 16 hours). Why is it difficult? All in all I think the game is naive in many aspect, like the fact that your starting technology level feels like mid 20th century, the depiction of corporations and the overall "morale" of the game, which is pretty blunt. Also, everything that is even slightly more technologically advanced than what we have today…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kind of like a happy medium between Civilization: Beyond Earth and Terraforming Mars. It's easy to pick up, but hard to master on harder modes (mostly due to lack of advanced tutorials). There's some threat from outside your colonies, but they're mostly natural and non combat, and there's a little politicking but not so much you'd get annoyed. The versus mode is very replayable, and the map editor leaves room for the imagination if you enjoy designing your own levels. I enjoy the balance…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice graphics, and it runs smoothly on macOS, but the user interface is complicated and seems to be designed mainly for console gamepads. The game mechanics are quite simple and repetitive, so it’s not for seasoned city and colony builders.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine Earth is one of the best city builder strategy games I've ever played, ESPECIALLY when it comes to using a controller. It is so hard to find a strategy game that has good controller support and it's clear that the team put in the time and effort to get the controller support right. It works like a charm on Steam Deck and it's buttery smooth on desktop. I can't recommend this one enough if you like city builders or want a strategy game you can relax to and enjoy with a controller.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love how much the devs love their own game. This is the type of development company I wish were more common; such attention to detail, continuous updates and improvements, very polished game. I would gladly purchase DLC's just to help keep their updates coming. Will be fun to keep watching this game evolve. Thanks for being awesome, dev team.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I started playing this game when it first became available and I must confess, I never got through the second planet. It just didn't grab me. Decided to try it again after several years of neglect and WOW! So much depth and new stuff to play with has catapulted the game into one of my new favorites. I'm really excited to continue through the campaign and see what else is ahead of me. Really looking forward to the DLC and I plan on purchasing it the day it comes out. Keep up the good work!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First things first. Game is planet builder. Combat is almost non-existant. Most focus in on optimization and outperforming your competitors and trying to not f!@k up the planet Game is really easy to pick, yet it does have enough depth to be engaging. Difficulty is mostly chill. Campaign can be somewhat challenging at the best. There are ladders. Permanent and seasonal if you wish to compete against others. Climbing ladder seems to be more about time then skill. Graphics are rather simple…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine Earth is something like a Civilization-light, with a strong focus on environment. It is a great game to play Especially the campaign, which offers enough variety in game-play challenge to keep you hooked on. Despite my recommendation, the game has two weaknesses: - It puts environment and climate change in your face, while the game mechanic itself is rather weak. It is hard to get at the point where you ruin the planet (usually it is ruined by you competitors) and once it goes, it is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty meh colony sim. Not bad per se, just meh. All the coolest parts of this game have been done better before by other games (Surviving Mars, the Anno series, Before We Leave, Offworld Trading Company, etc.). My biggest critique of the game is probably the characters that pop up frequently to give you quests or advice or when you interact with a competitor colony. The voice acting is very poorly directed and the dialogue is clunky (I see the developers are from Germany, so this is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first 4X game I can actually see a point in playing. Ill revisit those other ones and see if I can get into them after understanding and enjoying this one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: it didn't hook me in any way Imagine Civ/4x game except on small, unreadable and triangular based map. Triangular based and adjacency requirements/bonuses for buildings don't really play nice with each other. I think this one could be actually better if it went with hex+turn-based.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Plays and looks great on Deck on high settings and HDR at 60FPS. A lot of thought went into input design for playing with a controller. I'd say it's perfect for Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this for only a few hours several years ago and was not satisfied. Recently I saw another review from someone who had done the same thing but then played on through to some of the later planets and was impressed. I tried as well and am also impressed. I'm glad I'm back.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoy games based around a zombie apocalypse but I don't believe this is something that could happen. It just happens to be a great setting for a game. I don't believe in aliens from outer space invading our planet but again, it makes for a great premise for a computer game. Climate change? I honestly don't know enough to have a properly informed opinion on the matter but regardless, I still think it makes for a very cool premise for a space colonisation game. I'd describe myself as…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was excellent in 2017 when I first brought and played this. It's also one that was never abandoned before release by the developers, and one that continually provides quality updates with new features that makes returning to this game more rewarding and adds to the replay-ability. The planet management is something I dreamed of when I played Spore's space stage long ago. I can return to this game for either a challenge, or a relaxing time. The ui and reporting tools for management…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game. Some bugs on the missions make it so you can soft lock yourself out of 100% the game. Easy to master the game in <50 hours. Plenty of content, worth the money. The devs just released a new update, squashing a bunch of bugs and fleshing out the game more. If you haven't played the game in a while I would give it another go.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the game. It's neat and chill. Here is the playthrough without much comment so just some good old gameplay https://youtu.be/c7696h655vg
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a calm and fun game, if you create a planet with no other competitors! I have played several games with other corporate competitors who are terrible polluters. So, while I am very careful about protecting the environment, they are destroying it. When the planet passes a certain point, the USN steps in and closes the planet down. You lose. I am very happy to report that unlike many other similar world building games, one can create a world with only you managing it. There is a lot of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's good! It has a slow start. At first I thought it was boring. By the 3rd campaign mission it starts taking off and I just finished the 4th one in a single sitting. I was glued to my screen. That said, it could be a whole lot better. The main issue is the game's UI. It depends heavily on icons which go unexplained (as far as I'm aware) and even 16 hours into it, there are still some icons I don't understand. Most I figured out by some context clues but many were not obvious even with those.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice, chill city builder iv seen grow these past 5 years or so. Always a pleasure to see indy devs put real work into their games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It has all the depth of a puddle, but somehow it works. Very laid back/chill. I do wish there was an icon legend somewhere.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The regional pricing for this game is absolutely borked. 'Seriously bro' have you ever heard of regional buying power? EDIT: To repond to dev: Only a third of American prices, you say? WOW, amazing, /sarcasm. Did you know that the average wage in South Africa, is 11 times lower than In USA? So... why doesn't your game cost 11 times less, if you wanna use that logic? In India, it's 32 times lower than USA, so why doesn't your game cost 32 times lower than USA? Just because Valve suggests you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not expect this game to be such a dystopian image of the future where corporations own everything, access to basic technology is gated behind ultra-powerful patent trolls, the concept of government oversight is apparently nonexistent, and vast trading companies are let loose en-masse to pull an East India company on entire planets, privately owned colonies never transition to a proper government or anything they're privately owned by a megacorporation forever. Truly, the future is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game honestly the campaign is surprisingly fun for someone who doesn't like city builders it's short enough to not feel like a drag but long enough to keep you entertained
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a great game! I really got submerged into the atmosphere!. The game is great looking, I really like this kind of graphics. It's a real shame that the main campaign has just 6 missions. It took me 13 hours to do it and just one try. With engine and settings like this game has it wouldn't be hard to design several more missions (it wouldn't need to have such a thrilling story - something simple would be enough). Then it would make a real great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really good game, challenging, creative and fun at the same time. I wish it was longer ie. more galaxies and more planets for the campaign. However thumbs up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game. It is a strategy-based game which feel rare these days, and challenges me all the time. I found the campaign short but difficult in normal mode and feel it was great value for money. It works on my laptop with the same res settings as my gaming rig which is great as I get to play this while my partner plays RPG games on the rig. I am obsessed with fusion energy, planting trees of every variety in every part of the planet based on regional temperament. In addition I love taking…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game, optimized for Steam Deck
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent city builder with completely customized difficulty options, you can truly tailor your experience to suit your interests if you like building alone and fighting the environment that's an option if you wanna do that while competing with several other corps you can do that too! The moment to moment game play is also very satisfying the loop of population > food and goods > power > population is an incredible time! 10/10 would recommend to anyone who likes city builders!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While you certainly can play Imagine Earth as a colony sim, it's not just a vanilla base-builder. I like the corporate approach to planet development and it does the climate collapse side well without being offensive or becoming an annoying or punishing mechanic. You can min-max colony building if that's your thing, or optimise your play style for maximum efficiency going after mission objectives in a time strategy. There are enough variation in game mechanics that keep this game interesting…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Somewhat similar to Terra Nil (tho more complex) Frostpunk (arguably better than frostpunk, just because of length of campaign). Tho ultimately this is quite a distinctive unique game. Not sure why the ratings for this game are as low. Im currently 50% through and enjoying tf out of it. Its a space management/synergy game with a good number of factors out of players control that make it perfectly challenging yet relaxing experience. The UI is pretty great for a 13 bucks game, makes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you are looking for a casual planet building like game, this is it. The difficulty is learning the game at first but once you get the mechanics (pretty simple really) then you are god and can't lose. Played the whole campaign, haven't touched the bonus galaxy yet. Gonna play the endless play type just to see how far i can go in without breaking it. Had fun the whole time. Obviously some things were not as fun, like when you are broke and waiting for the money to get in (seller ship or…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun little planet colonising and city builder. It is a very polished effort from the devs. I enjoyed it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game starts out very, very slowly. If you can get past that, then it becomes quite fun. Once the player gets past the first few planets, which act as tutorials, the game opens up. Yes. the first few planets in the campaign are very slow, and somewhat uninteresting as a result. However, this is one of those games where persistence truly pays off. Ultimately, one will be competing with numerous other companies for land acquisitions on a planet, along with stopping invasions from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →so far feels like work in progress. But its really laid back game if you want to chill.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →HELLO developers i thank u for this master piece of work. i think this game didn't take its share of positive review because of the fascinating idea and unique game play and developers constant updating and fixing . to show my support to the developers i did put the upcoming dlc in my wish list . in my view , didn't see any con except when the AL drive the planet to destruction through emission
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game! It is a challenge for me as a strategy fan. Impressive that new features and DLCs are made regularly years after the release and that the indie developers take care on the active community so well. They responded quickly to my question in the Discord support channel. After starting the game, I was initially a little overwhelmed by the many options in the user interface, but the tutorial explains the most important things. The tech tree is very extensive and I gathered…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My game crashed trying to play the first mission of the campaign
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not for me but I know this is cool for the brain that it tickles. Just make sure to watch gameplay videos, just do this for every game. It is pretty cool, I did a few worlds and enjoyed it but didn't want to go on.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You can loose yourself for hours in this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a very fun city builder where you build sustainable colonies on new planets. In the campaign you sometimes compete with other corporations to build a sustainable and profitable colony. The game play focuses on meeting goals that typically have you build up your population while meeting their needs for food, energy, and goods. New buildings are unlocked at a nice pace making it easy to learn what the strengths and weaknesses of various buildings are so you can make a strategy that works…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like thi s title. Ive been playing it off and on for a while and never had a bad time (except the backwards speech lol). Def a game worth picking up if you like colony sims, space sims, and city builders. And as usual if you dont like it you can refund it, but i doubt you will.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent colony sim. It has easily made the list of colony sims I like to replay occassionally. Development is based around tile and building synergies, these are almost always easy to read and plan ahead. My only complaint is the occassionally messy maps which is especially present in procedurally generated maps for the "skirmish" gamemode. The game supports and encourages playing maps from the workshop, but the number of players making them and the quality of these maps is lows. If you…
