positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How to Survive was the first game my first love invited me to play together. It was exciting—surviving on an island filled with zombies, scavenging for resources, and crafting weapons side by side. The game itself was fun, but what made it special was playing it with her. Unfortunately, we only made it through a few chapters before she disappeared. Just like that, I was left to finish the first half of the game alone. It was a strange feeling—continuing something that was meant to be a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the context of How to Survive, the games inventory should be based on weight and not on the allocation of inventory slots. The game has inventory stacking, a common QoL feature so I can add 20 of this and 20 of that but I can't add a 5 oz plant because there isn't a slot for it. Annoying. Otherwise the game, though over a decade old, has many positive features like seeing the tombstones of your friends who played through the game previously and met their bitter end so to speak. This…

unlabelledView post →A somewhat janky zombie survival game. Combat is mostly boring. After I accidentally crafted a boomerang, I had no real reason to use anything else. At first, I tried to craft a flamethrower, but it was too hard for me to track all the ingredients randomly thrown around inexpressive islands without a proper map of transitions. The story is neither immersive nor entertaining and the "sudden twists" have no real weight to them. Sadly, I can't find any features that would let me earnestly…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"How to Survive," developed by Eko Software and published by 505 Games, is a top-down action-adventure game that immerses players in a zombie-infested archipelago. Released in 2013 for various platforms, including Windows, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and later for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as the "Storm Warning Edition," the game offers a blend of survival mechanics and crafting elements. The game's narrative begins with the protagonist being shipwrecked on a remote island, forcing them to…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →good lord. feels like a sh!tty flash game with (comparatively) better graphics and it shows. Level design feels like it was done by an 8-year-old, sound design is none-existent - chokefull of the most overused stock sound effects, graphics are rough even by 2013's standards - other indie games that came out that year include The Stanley Parable, Gone Home, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs which is to say there's really no excuse how this game looks so 2003. Combat is meh - controls are *just*…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really mediocre. I would give it a neutral review because it is not actually completely bad. But honestly it is not enough to give it a positive review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like a lot of this game. But the game becomes incredibly annoying later on. Combat is very shallow and becomes repetitive as zombie waves get bigger The longer you play the more annoying it is. The damage feedback and the stun locking on the player character is awful. The final showdown on the beach is so cheap that after almost 8 hours I was like. I'm done. It could have been a sun little game but ultimately buckles under it's annoying padding. Sad to say I can't recommend it. Hopefully part…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Reading ‘How to Survive as a Maid in a Horror Game’ the title is pretty self explanatory. The protagonist of the game (the ML) is satan reincarnated in a noble guy’s body… due to a curse, his goal is to kill people. MC wakes up in the game as one of ML’s maids.

Going back to it feels like visiting an old friend. I still remember the stress of trying to find food and water while dodging zombies on those islands. It’s got that classic, top-down arcade feel that’s just so addictive, especially with Kovac’s quirky survival guides. It might be an older title now, but it’s the game that totally hooked me on the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game turned out to be much more enjoyable than I thought, especially in co-op. It is really nice how you can work together, share items and everything. The different modes are also cool. Only thing I could wish for is an endless mode with your fully geared up char.

unlabelledView post →How to Survive is a surprisingly fun little zombie survival game. The crafting, scavenging, and survival mechanics are simple but satisfying, and I liked having to actually keep an eye on food and water. It's nothing particularly deep, but it knows what it wants to be and doesn't overstay its welcome. I had a good time with it, and I'd recommend picking it up during a sale.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember when I first came across How To Survive on the Playstation many years, I loved it so much. It's such a great zombie survival game. Fantastic gameplay coupled with a great story that doesn't feel repetitive or boring (unlike the sequel to this game). I love the crafting system. It feels so fun and refined. The map design is fantastic. It's actually an archipelago, i.e. a group of islands, that you travel between. A true hidden gem of the gaming world. Worth a try at least…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it’s an okey pick for short co-op sessions or fans of survival games looking for something else to play. The game gets stale after a few hours and boomerang is too overpowered. Voice Actor of Kovac delivered a fantastic performance. The base game is still good enough for a positive review, get it while it's on sale though. I highly recommend Kovac's Way DLC to make the game more challenging

unlabelledView post →How to Survive is not even close to being a shovelware title, but it's also quite far from being a good game. It's short, unbalanced, monotonous, and your character feels stiff as a dried stick. If you're looking for a good survival game, or a good action game, or, god forbid, both, then look elsewhere.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've spent quite a bit of time surviving on the zombie-infested islands of How to Survive, and I have to say, this game is way more fun than I expected. At first glance, it might seem like just another top-down zombie survival game, but it manages to mix action, crafting, survival mechanics, and co-op in a way that's surprisingly engaging. The story is simple: you're stranded on a series of tropical islands after a shipwreck, and your main goal is to survive while uncovering the mysteries of…

unlabelledView post →How to Survive is not a bad game, but I can't recommend it. If I had played it at launch I would likely feel more charitable towards it, but games like this have come a long way. Small scale zombie skirmishes are enjoyable, and the Kovak character adds a lot of charm to the game. Unfortunately there are a number of design issues that really drag it down once you hit the mid game. The game's UI is, frankly, awful. You don't have any good organizational tools, and you often have no idea if a…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had hoped I would enjoy this one, but, well, here's my video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxC2H0yRseg The character select was a touch bewildering. There were alternate costumes, but no way to tell what they actually look like without loading up the game. I rolled a D4 to decide which character to play, as there was 4 of them. You also cannot rename the characters, but that's okay, Nina is my middle name, so that worked out. It started off okay, pretty basic zombie survival game. The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/folfZvdJjNw Slower pacing than typical action RPGs with very minimal melee combat backed by a single skill tree doesn't offer a lot of creative space for players to engage in.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did not find this to be fun. Tutorial prompts constantly cycle on the screen.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just very old and outdated obviously, hell even back when this game released it was lacking a good crafting system, a good story / world / characters, shoe horned survival systems that become basically nonexistent, poorly balanced skill trees leading to infinite ammo as soon as level 4 which kills any hope for "survival horror" or "intense moments" this game tries to create, it was middling back then and its borderline a snoozer now
