Developer Love Conquers All Games
Let's spend the next three real-time days together uncovering the mystery of what went horribly wrong on a derelict generation ship, with the help of a spunky/more-than-slightly-traumatized AI sidekick! unlabelledView post →Unobtainable achievement coded in the game ON PURPOSE. It isn't just too hard or too long to do... it's straight up impossible. Looks like some devs don't get the concept of what achievements are.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like getting 100%, skip this game like a plague. For stupid meme reasons, one achievement is server locked and unobtainable, just because the developer decided to spit into the faces of achievement hunters to prove a point nobody cared about. If you don't care, then this game is okay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome Game. Just one thing: GIVE ME ALREADY THAT IMPOSSIBLE ACHIEVMENT DAMMIT!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The way it ♥♥♥♥♥ with your time irl is getting annoying. I liked the first title, hell I even like this one but this is seriously irritating. There are things that games can do that mess with you irl (like in Doki Doki) that are cool, this is not an example of that. I'm doing this review during the time I'm supposed to be baking a cake because the pixels on the screen are telling me to. You also cant get 100% achievements on this title on purpose. Bummer beecause everything else is kind of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Where Analogue: A Hate Story was about investigating a disaster and slowly piecing together the truth in an organic fashion, Hate Plus is about reading a bunch of walls of text while an NPC reacts to them and tries to tell you how you're supposed to feel. It's extraordinarily lame. Oh, and cake pictures.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A significant downgrade to its predecessor, and a slap in the face to any steam achievement hunters.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You should really just look up the log files online somewhere.First of all, this was not a full second game. It’s really an epilogue to Analogue: A Hate Story, and the internet tells me it was originally just going to be DLC, which makes sense because it’s not a full game in any sense. Presumably it was split off and called a sequel for dollar-related reasons. It’s also just not as good as Analogue for some pretty irritating reasons. First of all, you can only read 18 log files every 12…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Spoiler Alert!) The game is a good game. I love these two AI girls, especially *Hyun-ae. And I do agree with the author's idea that men and women are equal. But as a Chinese background player, the author's opinion about Chinese Characters makes me feel offended. I would never say something like this to any other culture or language. I think the author has some understanding of east Asian culture, but it is still superficial. Also, the 12 hours time restrict is not good either. It makes me…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the fact that there's a follow-on and that it tells you what happened to make things go so wrong in the first story, but the mechanics of the days, and then the cake have made me abandon this after two days. Just too annoying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think Analogue: A Hate Story is one of the best visual novels around. Hate Plus is pretty good too, but it falls short in a couple key areas. One weakness is the character of *Hyun-ae, who is cute and funny and all, but moreso than in Analogue doesn't really feel like she has much purpose except to make fun of visual novel heroines (hence the cake achievement and all). Since she is one of the three possible routes for the game, that ends up being a pretty big problem. She just doesn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solving the mystery left behind in the first game wasn't worth it. It'd be more fun to just read the log files minus the rest of the game. Pros: The mystery is solved! We get to read the events that lead up to Year 0 in the first game! You can use your save file from the first game with snippets of information (like costume, some random decisions, route ending, and which gender you were) The log files are massive. So much to read, so much story. There's an index of character names (only…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This series really is something special. This visual novel is a sequel to "Analogue: A Hate Story", and takes place moments after it. Gameplay remains similar while telling yet another story with dark and mature themes. The story has you managing your remaining power on your 3-day trip back to earth, while you uncover the mystery of what happened "before year 0" onboard of the Mugungwha. The game lets you pick your wai-- I mean companion AI, and even how they act towards you (If you have a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you care about 100%ing the game, do NOT buy this game as the developer refuses to write code to unlock a subjective achievement. Let me tell you it'll leave you heartbroken as it's akin to dangling a carrot in front of you, but after years of digging/bugging the developer, the final verdict is "hugs for those who bruteforce the achievement". Troll Conquers All Games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Has an achievement impossible to achieve
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great story that hits a lot harder in 2024 than I imagine it did when it originally released. That said, while the story is superb, the execution is lacking. Having the ability to read a visual novel in essentially any order you want means that there can be no real pacing, something that is only sort of addressed with the real life time gates and later game file unlocks. After reading the last file and getting my ending dialogue, I was left with a feeling of "that's it? there's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →broken achievement that is impossible to get. don't buy if you care. also not as interesting as the previous game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane. It's simultaneously 1. a tragic story about political maneuvering/political murdering/wealth disparity/having kids for the tax credit/the gradual tendency of society to get worse and worse until you give up and accept your fate and 2. an anime quasi-dating-sim where your virtual (girl)friend demands you bake her a real life cake (which I did not do because it was 8 pm and I didn't have the ingredients but I swear to god before I die I'm gonna bake that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cake…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1 Achievement you cant get
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I loved more the first game and the story than this one. Sadly the time gates just kill it for me. Wait 12 hours just to continue the story? As a person that loves reading, this is beyond annoying. (Had to use the hidden skip button just to continue playing). [ Minor Spoiler, a rather annoying spoiler ] The game even ask's for you to go check ingredients in your fridge... really? Look, stop telling me to go check, I KNOW WTF IS IN MY FRIDGE, I work as a bloody cook! Last, having to wait real…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Analogue has a great story, and so does this, but Hate Plus in particular bogs itself down with every step of the game's attempt to make the gameplay more interesting. You have to wait 12 hours between gameplay days as that's the time the AI takes to recharge itself. You have to entertain an anime character to keep reading the actually interesting story (and she can't keep herself from interrupting you every so often too), and what made me finally stop playing was how you have to keep the game…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately not as good as the last one. The storyline pales in comparison and it can be very frustrating to play. Only a certain number of stories can be played in a day. (This can be circumvented with a cheat.) The games prompts you to do IRL things (like bake a cake...) and won't continue until a certain amount of time has passed. A bit disappointed personally, but if you really want to learn more about the story then it would be worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I live in a dormitory. I don't have an oven, I don't have the money, yes, not even a microwave, and I certainly don't want to make a cake. Oh and yeah I *know* what stuff I have in my """kitchen""", I don't need to get up for that. Damn, I should be studying. Thanks, game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game that made people bake an actual IRL cake and go through all five stages of grief. Killer song in the end too.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game and continuation of the first. My only complaint is the unachievable achievement, as I've been trying to get 100% completion on my titles. I thoroughly enjoyed this different and fresh take on this genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like the previous game, the story is almost entirely kinetic but good, though not as good as the first game imo. Just as before, you need to play two endings in order to get all of the story pieces, which is tedious in a kinetic story. A new "feature" of this game is that it limits you to a certain amount of content per real-world day. I would much rather choose the amount that I want to play in a day based on my real-world schedule and my mood. This was not optional and it pissed me off. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game makes you wait literally 12 hours real time after you play the first in game day to be able to continue. I last played January 19, 2014. Todays date writing this is November 02, 2015, almost two years later. I just never continued playing. The game has 3 in game days, so I'm assuming it does the 12 hour wait thing another time. This is sad because the first game was so emotional I couldn't stop "playing" (reading) all day then some of the next day to finish it. Sorry, I can't recommend…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's even worse than the first one. The writing is still tedious, and this time it's absolutely surreal, with people writing down events in their personal journals by describing them as if they're writing novels. And, again, the completely juvenile and superficial approach toward sexism. The purportedly misogynous characters can't even utter two sentences without saying something unrealistically bizarre: "Oops, I made a mistake because I'm a woman, and everyone knows women are stupid! You…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Though less unique due to the natural storyline, Hate Plus is an improvement on the best visual novel I've had the pleasure to read, Analogue: A Hate Story. Both games are very innovative and have major replay value, and Hate Plus expands even further on those things in a very cathartic way, especially in a certain path. Also, the soundtrack is once again very emotive and beautiful. Another heartwarming and educational experience. Very unique in that it taught me to sympathize with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Screw this bollocks. This game is a technical disaster, low-ass resolution (ever heard of HD, Full-HD or 4k?), scrolling feels broken and non-smooth in a game about scrolling and reading texts. SPOILER WARNING!!! Then the dev added a fake achievement. Level four revive blablabla. I dont mind that i cannot obtain that, but because of that i wasted HOURS of my lifetime, THE ONLY THING I CAN NEVER GET BACK to save *Mute from killing herself or wiping her memory, however you wanna call it. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DISCLAIMER: ONE unachievable achievement. Not cool, dev. Not cool. Unfair.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game and a third of the way thru it i got kind of upset by people leaving reviews about some kind of impossible to achieve achievement. I now know what they are talking about. This actually makes it one of the best games i have ever played. I loved analogue way too much for my own good and somehow I love this game even more. I cannot recommend it enough. i have already said too much. Play Analogue then Hate plus. I loved both games so much I'd buy them off sale for as many of my…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Literally made me get up and bake a cake for a computer program in a computer program. 10/10, would reccomend.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Making gameplay dependent on time in the real world is cute, unless you have a day job and don't want to try and schedule game time around your real world schedule just to accomodate a designer's whims. It looked promising otherwise.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the plot isn't always my cup of tea, Christine Love has to be given credit for actually improving on Hate Plus's predecessor in terms of the graphics and music. Not only that, it's probably one of the few games out there where it takes roleplaying to the next level, requiring you to patiently wait in real life in order to access a new batch of emails or while you bake a cake. For those without patience, having to wait before continuing with the game will seem like an infuriating gimmick;…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heavily recommend playing "Analogue: A Hate story" first! While this game depicts events preceding the first game, it will have a very different impact if you play in the other order. The story depicts the events leading up to the cultural change that lead to the societal in the first game, much more of a thriller exploring trauma and how power structures can make themeselves fall in on themselves. Similar mechanics to the previous games with a built in reading limit for each day!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a mess. Maybe I'll explain if I decide this game is worth any more of my time to prevent the loss of anyone else's
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A visual novel that is a sequel to Analogue: A Hate Story. Do more of the same of what you did in that. Read portions of the story and fuss the AIs. Plot, stories, characters, etc are decently done. If you enjoy reading and liked the first game, you'll probably enjoy this. Seems about half of the negative reviews come from people that are upset that this makes you wait 12 hours to play it again at a certain point. Apparently these people own no other games or have nothing else to do with their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is almost unplayable due to interface issues. You spend most of the game scrolling through long text logs, but the scrolling doesn't work properly. I guess this is explained by your ship being "too low on power" to fully handle scrolling (despite somehow having enough power to simulate a pair of human brains 24/7), but that doesn't make it any less awful. Each of the text logs has a visible scrollbar that has no effect, and a pair of arrows that have about a 1 in 10 chance of moving the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not as good as the original due to the detachment of the characters from the story, but still very much worth the read if you enjoy culture, politics, intrigue, and a lot of reading.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Boring story told without continuity. Still leaves questions open. No real replay value like the first game. The GUI is slow and annnoying to control.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Heartbreaking and beautiful, this game pulls no punches and will gleefully leave you crying and fearful of the world around you. Christine Love once again proves her mastery of asynchronous story-telling, each step forward is a choice as to what you want to learn more about and each individual narrative weaves together into so artful a tapestry that the stories and characters within will be with you for a long time afterwards. This is a game about looking back at the little concessions, the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This cake is actually not a lie. The mug one I made was chocolatey, chewy, and delicious.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can feel a bit of a dissonance between quite serious topics covered in reading files and not-so-serious anime-VN-style elements (especially in *Hyun-ae route). Hate Plus might not be as deep as Analogue, but Christine Love's writing is still excellent and I've really enjoyed this sequel.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original game asked difficult questions that made me think about the world I was in. This one doesn't. Play the original and forget that Hate Plus exists
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game taught me how to make a microwave cake. So it had a long term impact in that! It was also... quite sad. And I loved some of the music. I managed to enjoy it even though I don't think I did the routes in quite the right order. *Mute - *Hyun-ae- Both is the reccomended. I also liked that I could chose to not be a man or a woman.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No, I am not going to bake an actual real-life ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cake because my oversensitive anime tour guide's feelings are going to be horribly hurt if I don't. What's that? Most of the story is walled past this point? Well ♥♥♥♥ you too!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →See all the degeneracy that happened BEFORE the crackdown on degeneracy and realize... really, they did nothing to reduce the number of gays and lesbians sharing their feelings.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Analogue : A Love Story was an interesting game, a visual novel that wasn't just focused on romance with a bunch of NPC. It had an interesting, original setting, and the goal of the game was to solve a mystery, rather than pursue a romance. Romance was there for people who wanted it, but it was definitely optional. Unfortunately, its sequel, Hate Plus, deals with what happened far into the past. Thus, you know the setting, you know how it ends, and it's just a matter of reading about the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have never knowingly platinumed a game. Except Hate Plus, but I don't think that counts really
unlabelledView post →If you love the first game this visual novel is a must play. Sadly miss the command-line minigame from the first part) I expected this, not a rather annoying real-time lock and baking cakes for a fictional character)) And yeah, creating an achievement that is impossible to get for player except for the dev themselves is an absolutely demonic move. I don't know why Steam even allows such intentional trolling of completionists and exploit of the lack of rules regarding achievements.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this visual novel. I love the story, I love the characters (*Mute especially), and I absolutely love the music. 10/10 across the board, I couldn't recommend it more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Watch an undemocratic aristocracy descend into a hyper-conservative, totalitarian autocracy! Get your heart ripped out by characters unable to cope with the discovered trauma of their lives! Have the game literally force you to bake a cake in real life and take a photo of you eating it with one of the characters!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This VN is the sequel of Analogue: A Hate Story. You can also import your save from the previous game to continue your progress. In this game you will find out what happened with the starship crew, when a modern society turn into a Dark Ages one. There is a LOT of text on this one and players that don't like to read that much will find this game boring. The reaction of your girl when you read a text is well done, they show what they are interested or not in their comments. Also for Achievement…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't try to be clever by having forced waiting in a visual novel. Answering honestly simply made me have to wait again so I'm just going to stop playing. (I'm not talking about the apparently skippable 12 hour wait between "days" in game since each session was boring enough that it took me two days to get back to the game each time.)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's really tough to play through a game as brilliantly written as Hate Plus and then try to put into words what makes it this great. To start with a couple facts, Hate Plus is the direct sequel to Christine Love's Analogue: A Hate Story, an excellent visual novel about the ravages of institutional misogyny, set in a spaceship in the distant future. It also serves as a prequel, because while the events of Hate Plus occur after you left the ship in Analogue, the whole game revolves about you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The mug cake was gross. Do yourself a favor and bake yourself a real cake.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great game with a great story, but what a kick in the ol' jimmies.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An absolute must-play. Top notch VN. Kino as ♥♥♥♥.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ok. So. Here's a checklist for if you should buy this or not: Have you completed Analogue: A Hate Story? Did you enjoy it and the Mugungwa's story? Do you like reading with no real objective or gameplay? If you answered yes to all three questions, then this is a great sequel for you. If you're expecting a dating sim, not for you.
