NPC's react differently according to how you are dressed, for example an early misson in the game reqiures you to get into a bandit camp to retrieve a stolen neclace. You can just go there and kill them all, or you can find the thiefs clothes and get in undetected. There are also elements of Sci-fi blended in but I have not come across that yet. I will update this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR: After 17 hours play time, the game does not live up to what is promised in the description. The gameplay is crude, even for an older game, the story has yet to develop any interesting aspects. The game may become more interesting later, but the last 17 hours it kept me waiting. And I'm bored, so I don't really feel like playing any longer. LONG VERSION: This game is a bit of an oddity. It's made by Russian developers who apparently had little experience in making RPGs or games in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was happy to finally find this game on Steam. Played it since it came out in 2007. This game is one of a kind: - Medieval setting with a few things that you wont see coming; - Unbelievable storyline; - One of the first with a good mounted combat system; - Good graphics and decent soundtrack; It is a bit glitchy though.. Save often! Seriously, give it a try!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →-First, this is THE most underrated third person RPG I have ever played. Everyone who likes proper RPG should play this game, I don't think it deserved to be buried under shovelwares. Normally, I don't write long video game review, except if it's really exceptional, interesting, novel, and underrated. -The game design in this game is fantastic, it doesn't hand hold you like a baby (looking at you Witcher 3). Every quest can be solved in many ways....some don't even need to draw your sword,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game with all my heart ! :) BUY IT ! YOU HEAR ME ? BUY IT RIGHT NOW ! SCI-Fi RPG, but still very true with the human thinking about this earth and this life. If u have questions, ask me ! I will answer all of them ! FOR REAL, JUST ASK! Add me and ask everything. I can make you understand this amazing game ! I want a second game like this one( A Part 2). If the developers can HEAR ME make another EPIC GAME like this for our boring lives and you won`t regret.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that needs English knowledge.(If you try to improve your knowledge '+') [Localizations sucks btw, it even causes some bug exploits] Pretty sure that a really good game in that times(I mean 2006~2012) Game actually came out in 2005 iirc There is only SinglePlayer so don't ask for Multiplayer (-) This game is cannot be finished expect playing more than 70 or 100 hours(It means you cannot be bored and finish easily/quickly :) '+') [of course if you are trying to finish the story, it will…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →don't let my playtime fool you. I played this from a retail copy in 2008 or 09. This game is a great old game for hardcore rpg fans. Has a brilliant story, a book adaptation in fact. But at the beginning, progression is rather slow. hence this is an actually long game to finish and with the adaptation aspects; slow progress isn't a negative factor for me. But even with that, from the certain point (after 4-6h playtime) it becomes very, very interesting. Gameplay is clunky, but isn't anything…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard to be a God is an oddly compelling, but in the end rather bad game, based on a famous Russian sci-fi novel. I've not read this novel, so I don't know how close this game follows the book, but I would imagine that the book has a far better paced story than this game (and the English translation of the book is likely far better than what this game got...) This game is a bit of a mess. It's buggy, it's poorly paced, the translation is sometimes so bad that the game ends up contradicting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent game ! Replaying it for the 4 time (throughout the years). Just as good as ever, amazing story. To get a nearer 3rd person view, lower camera angle, and more zooming in and out. Game folder, \ TBG \ TBB \ HardToBeGod.ini camera_distance_min 5 camera_distance_max 50 alias ai_camera ( camera_angle_min 20 ) ( camera_angle_max 70 ) ... alias game_camera ( camera_angle_min 20 ) ( camera_angle_max 40 ) ...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard to be a God is very hardcore old school rpg that has its moments. Mounted combat is fun, but normal combat is frustratingly difficult. The bad Borat-style translation makes for some hilarious moments but slows down the narrative at the same time. The story leaves you in the dark start off the bat and slowly reveals the intricate details.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard to Be a God is one of those lesser known gems that people often pass by. While it does suffer some minor issues, the atmosphere, soundtrack and story all make up for it - the latter especially. Just buy it, play it, LOVE IT!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I remember seeing this game in a gaming magazine and really wanting to play it back in the day. A bit of time has passed since then and now i tried this game and it's bad. Don't get me wrong, i enjoy myself an older game, heck i still play gothic 1 & 2 from time to time. The voice acting is mediocre, the combat is annoying and i couldn't be bothered to put anymore time in this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →reminds me of gothic which i absolutely love!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Game! with a great and interesting storyline! Really recommend! Hope there will be a sequel!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game play is decent enough for an aging RPG. The outstanding part of this game is the hilariously horrible translation and inconsistent voice acting. I've played more than enough hours and laughed enough times at the mess of a translation to easily give this game a thumbs up. Recommended for nostalgic fun, don't buy if you are looking for an RPG tat is high quality because you will be disappointed,
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game with a lot of glitches, but the plot is really good and gameplay is kind of okay, if you have a lot of patience and not really dead set on graphics or modern day high end gaming experience, you'll really enjoy the game...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game for its time. Loved playing it as a child and grabbed it again years later. Still enjoyed it as much.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard to Be a God is a deeply flawed but fascinating RPG with a memorable atmosphere and a world unlike most fantasy games. While its combat and technical aspects show their age and are rough-around-the-edges, if you enjoy old-school RPGs and immersive settings, you may find it a rewarding endeavor. Its unique story background deserves more attention, and it's an entertaining, niche, Euro-jank RPG experience through and through.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →**update3** im 35 years old now, and this is the best game i ever played in my life. It might be the ONLY good game ever made. And ive played them all. Check out my youtube of the same name if you dont believe me that ive played every 3d game ever made **update2** this is one of best games i ever found in 34yr of being alive! A grand adventure! The combat is awesome you can block with spacebar and rotate around with WASD while still blocking, blocking blocks 100% of damage, you can swap to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A clunky but interesting game. Got a few bugs, and spiders, but not too bad. There was this castle I couldn't get across the drawbridge to get in, so I got in by going under the drawbridge...? Combat can be very unforgiving, so stock up on food and improve your medicine skill. Disguises are a big part of the game, but once you start impersonating a noble you mostly just need the Don outfit to progress the actual basic storyline. This game may not be for everyone. There's a few escort quests,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't know you had a Hard To Be A God game ruminating! I wrote one and shelved it for various good reasons.
unlabelledView post →I was very interested in the story, but couldn't get past the atrocious combat mechanics. It feels like it was specifically designed to be frustrating.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don`t know. On the one hand it`s not bad simple rpg with not bad plot. On the other, linear, bit boring and without gameplay variety. I don`t regret play it, but can`t recommend
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best RPG with a great story, but unpolished and has some major bugs. Apart from that it's great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An old good gem. Best story
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My Hard to Be a God review. TL;DR: While it is pretty unpolished, it's a game I strongly recommend if you like a casual medieval RPG with a captivating story. Background: Hard to Be a God is a series, Book: The first entry of this series is a book under the same name written by the Strugatsky brothers, Arkady and Boris. (The same authors who wrote Roadside Picnic, which would later develop into the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, so yes, these 2 series wouldn't have existed had it not been for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An ongoing desire of mine is to play all the not Stalker game adaptations of the Strugatsky novels of which Hard To Be A God is one - store.steampowered.com/app/391030/H...

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is absolutely a masterpiece. I love third person rpg games and this is one of the best. I really wish that it was longer and more areas would've greatly helped especially since there are so many factions that you see for just a bit, but it is really worth playing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Possibly the most slept-on game in existence
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the game is owesome if inished it 2 times when i was little and now i love it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those games I played as a kid that I really, REALLY wanted to try again. Absolutely lovely game, except for the "impassability" - how you can't climb up small hills, which might be the norm for games as old as this? - and the ending that cuts the story a bit too shortly. (I really wanted to have another chat with Rudie and the gang) Another thing I've noticed is some of the dialogue text seems taken from the voice clips rather than the other way 'round. (The voice will be…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Started this after I searched for "Games like Gothic" While it has some similar aspects, the bad camera angle and the really small maps take a lot out of the immersion.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played it when i was little now i found it again and finish it rly nice game gave me chills :D
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lo recomendaría?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is cool with awesome graphics. I just loved all the scenarios, weapons, animals and enemies and friends..
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun to play, loading is a bit slow but it might be me. If you do play it remember to save often. Would definitely recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nostalgic game to say at least. Game was super good back in the day, one of the very first rpg games i have played. Combat system is simple, few buggs, but nothing serious. All in all 7/10. Cheers!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →clumsy, not polsihed at all. love the strugatzkis, but this is on the brink to unplayable
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →10 years ago when i was around 13 years old. We got this games CD from collecting coupons from news. And this was my first ever rpg. Then i woulndt understand anything and id just play whatsoever and i had beautiful memories of it. Now i actually finished the game completely and im shocked. This game was so good all the plot twists and the general story is crazy good. The game is a little bit buggy yet it doesn't make you not be able to finish the game itself. Also if u are bugged u could try…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super Fun If You Can Deal With Weird Old Games With Mediocre English Translations The game is quite old, so you have to be a little forgiving with the graphics and having to manually change the resolution every now and then. In terms of actual gameplay, I found it really fun! I like how the "disguises" work (even if the system is extremely simple), the story is interesting even if the translation is pretty bad in some aspects, and the world feels like something the devs had a lot of fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So many memories with this game. Feels great to play it again.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →one of my fav games. this game is def not as popular as it should have been
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great story and super ahead of its time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story for this game is quite interesting. It's just a shame that is has no balance, and it's frustrating to play. Between timed quests and the worst designed encounters in this game I find it a wonder that anyone even manages to complete this hot steaming pile of ♥♥♥♥.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first RPG I'd played, its indeed lovely that i have found it on steam; brought so many memories back from the days world was a better place.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game way way back when I had the disc, nice to see it here on steam. It's based of of a real novel book. I wish there are more games like this. give it a shot, it's totally worth it. -Not spoilers but glimpse of what to expect- you live in medieval times in (a planet). you get to dress some cool low-riz outfits forged in all over the continent, kill some high profile people, try to overthrow a city-state government and eventually get your own castle. it's basically CIA agent in…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game from childhood, this game is a hidden gem.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Underrated story line with witty dialogue and characters you'll get attached to. A bit buggy which is fine given the era in which it was made. Playing this game made me want to read the prequel and original sci-fi book this game is based on. Bit disappointed in how the ending turned out to be given the great build-up of it you get playing the game but it still makes for a fun time. Peh take that lazy ending scene tho with plot holes not answered for. Worth trying out if you like a historical…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a perfect game - it has problems with glitches and it definitely could have used some actual proofreaders checking the text before publishing it - but the story and the world are so intricate and engrossing that those issues barely bothered me. If a good story is what you're looking for in an RPG, definitely worth buying. The game seems to make a lot of references to the book (which I haven't read yet) but since you play as a new character completely unrelated to the plot doing it may be…
