The witchy wandering game Withering Rooms has a demo now, and I was immediately sold on it by its clever curse mechanics that have no downsides whatsoever.

Withering Rooms is a REALLY interesting game. Like... what if the original Clock Tower was also a Souls-like and roguelite? Reductive, but it works Moody side-scrolling survival horror with stealth, but you're encouraged to push your luck a lot and get increasingly aggressive as you explore deeper.

God this game is good. Criminally underrated. Saw Jerma play it, turned it off to buy it. I hope others do the same! If you're unsure, the demo was crazy long. - Story + world building SO good - Combat feels great + good enemy variation - Lots of build variability - Unique - Nice mix of genres while never being overwhelming one or the other either - The only game to get me to utilize switching builds mid fight because its so easy and actually worth it Difficulty/Combat - It's…

29: Withering Realms - Followup to the undersold Withering Rooms. A hack n' slash action-RPG set in a very haunted world, starring a modular puppet-warrior and a ghost girl. The previous game was a hybrid of 2D action RPG, survival horror and roguelite. This one's more open-world and overhead.

I 100%'ed Withering Rooms about a month ago now, and I still can't stop thinking about it. I loved the world, I loved the story, I loved the characters, I loved the art style. Most of all, I think, I loved how unashamedly weird it was from start to finish. This is one of those titles that simply doesn't get made anymore without the uncompromising vision of a solo developer who doesn't particularly care about mass appeal. If you can get past the "jank" (a fair bit of which seems to be an…

While it has action elements, this is not an action game! " Nonsense. There is enough combat to say Withering Rooms can be defined as an action game. Game is just so good it's hard to explain with words. The vibes are just great and the audio design is crazy too. Characters and story are well put together and the world design goes so hard. This game was my game of the year when I played it (And I played the hell out of Black Myth WuKong too), and is still my favorite single player game out there. I enjoyed playing this game more than I can say. The combat has enough variety that it doesn't get old trying out different builds. I would…

The solo developer of Withering Rooms put so much love and care into this game. Extremely impressive. Each aspect of the game, like combat, progression, story, music, and exploration are done very well. I just read an interview about how much the game is inspired by Welsh folklore. The developer didn't need to go THAT hard into incorporating cool history and folklore into the game, but he did! You can really tell how much love went into the game. Here is a Spoiler-Free critical review of Withering Rooms. Withering Rooms is a heavily atmospheric, and surprisingly well thought out game with layers to both its gameplay and its narrative that go much deeper than its 2.5D indie horror visual style initially lets on. It is not a perfect game, suffering from a slightly awkward game loop, an opaque level/stat system and the occasional technical bug. But the more time I spent with withering rooms, the more I grew to love it. Withering rooms is…

This is one of my favorite indie games now, I saw Jerma play it and instantly fell in love. The ost is amazing, the mood and story are great and there are homages to all of my fav survival horror games from Silent Hill to Rule of Rose there is love in every inch of withering rooms. Playing it multiple times and feeling myself get stronger just *feels* good and if the sequel has more refined combat it could really be something great. To me this is a modern classic!

A masterpiece, really. The lore, the animations, the atmosphere, the graphics, the mechanics, everything is just brilliant. So many times I had to stop and admire the cleverness of a story beat or a scare or a mechanic. Just when you think you've seen every new thing the game could throw at you, it surprises you again. Fun game until around the second chapter. After that the cracks start showing hard. Chapter 3 balance is a mess. Melee builds basically become useless and the game forces you into spells or ranged if you want to keep progressing. Combat itself is just awful. Most fights boil down to whoever fills the bleed meter or stun-locks the other person first. You’re constantly face-tanking hits while mashing the attack button. Blocking feels like an afterthought that barely matters. It tries to be a…

After having seen this game a couple times on steam, I finally decided to play it after seeing Jerma985 praising it highly on his channel. This game is magical in many ways, initially I was very unpleased with how difficult the beginning of the game felt. I absolutely love this game. I was drawn in when I heard it was a horror roguelite, but it’s honestly so much more than that. The game wears its influences on its sleeve beautifully and the sheer amount of things to do and weapons to try out is vast but not overwhelming. It’s like Silent Hill and the Souls games got thrown into a blender and the result was this overwhelmingly delicious smoothy. Definitely recommend it, I’m honestly amazed this game isn’t more popular.
