At first sight Hard Reset Redux (Redux, since it's a somewhat improved version of the [url=store.steampowered.com/app/98400/Hard_Reset_Extended_Edition/]original released in 2011) appears to be an ideal first-person shooter: set in a rainy, neon-lit textbook cyberpunk metropolis we have to fight off murderous robots who have taken over the streets. Unfortunately, as we quite soon find it out, the streets are literally empty, or rather devoid of any life - and no, not because the robots killed…

Hard Reset Redux is incredibly mediocre. The gunplay feels super boring—you're basically just unloading tons of ammo into wave after wave of robot enemies, and they don't even react until they eventually explode. It's not satisfying at all. The levels are also pretty bland, with a dark urban cyberpunk vibe that doesn't really change much each level. Everything looks the same because of the reused assets, and there's no real sense of place in the city. If you're after a solid FPS with fun…

Hard Reset commits the FPS cardinal sin of making enemies have more health at higher difficulty levels, instead of adjusting their spawns or AI. Enemies become RIDICULOUSLY bullet spongy at higher difficulties, which coupled with the fact that the majority of them don't stagger and don't show any visual indication of damage, quickly makes every encounter feel like a chore. Level design actually starts off strong, visuals and gameplay wise, but gradually falls off, with the latter part of the…

Unfortunately Hard Reset is a middling first-person shooter that has a pretty fun first half before it turns into a repetitive slog. If I wasn't obsessed with at least finishing every game in my library I would've dropped the game after the Atlas fight. The enemy variety is low, and the main gameplay loop is clearing a room of increasingly more enemies before pressing a button and walking 30ft to the next room where you shoot more bullet-spongey enemies. It gets old pretty quickly. This…

Overall, a pretty good package. To start, the game is a shooter with two weapon slots, an energy weapon and a ballistic weapon, these slots can be outfitted with different weapons (for a total of 12 options*) and changed on the fly which makes it easy to experiment and try to combo/alternate during fights. Albeit with a couple second delay in between switching no ability to select a weapon, instead having to roll through all of them until you get your choice, which is not that bad if you keep…

High adrenaline cyber punk sci-fi shooter. The world reminds me of the Matrix movies. I bought this game for very cheap....I still can't figure out why was a game this good...so cheap. It's not very long....but thankfully it has a good story and action. The redux version has an upgraded visuals and it sure shows. I recommend it very much. The game was so cheap....that a cup of coffe costs twice as much. Crazy world we live in.

This game is great, with others accurately describing it as a cross between Doom and some sort of cyberpunk iteration. Although, not having cloud saving capabilities is really annoying considering I use both a PC and a Steam Deck. I have to choose....not cool man.

I played a little of this a few years ago and felt it was, meh. I read an article the other day that over hyped this game. "It's the Doom you never heard of." After a few hours, It's still, meh. I don't know why I am doing all of this. At least in Doom, you have the soundtrack. This is just aimless without any hero music. To clarify, there is music every now and then, but it sucks. You can't crouch, but there are all these missing sections of fence at crouch level. I took it as there was a…

This is the third game I’ve played from that developer (the first ones being Evil West and Shadow Warrior), and it's probably the most fun one overall. Mostly because this one doesn’t overstay its welcome to the absolute breaking point. It just starts, shows us some gorgeous cyberpunk levels, allows us to murder some robots for a while, and then promptly ends. It is absolutely nothing special: the combat loop is just a little more involved than something like Serious Sam, the story feels like…

It's a shame that I have to give this game a negative review, even though it can be an average/decent time on normal difficulty there's a lot of things holding it back from being viscerally satisfying as a shooter, I'm convinced the devs didn't even playtest the harder difficulties because everything is so impossibly bullet spongey it saps any fun that can be had out of the experience. Platforming and jumping is weird and floaty and doesn't feel good, many times leading to pitfalls and instant…

Played the game for about an hour. Ran great on Linux. Gameplay and enemies were pretty boring. I've encountered only 2-3 kinds of them. Weapons and upgrades seem fine, but my interest of the game vanished after the first hour due to the repetitive and boring gameplay. A pity, because the cyberpunk atmosphere is well done.

Hard Reset Redux is a "remaster" of Hard Reset Extended Edition. While it improves on certain things, changes are either minimal, nonsensical and implementation of new features is questionable at best. Let me expain: New features: dash move, new enemies and a new weapon. Dash move is great, makes traversing the map and dodging attacks much easier. It also completely breaks the game. It's supposed to use stamina, but it's either bugged or broken and it actually doesn't, no matter how many times…

I wish this game would have branched off into a whole franchise with a multiplayer component. Over the top destruction, awesome weapon system, just an overall fun experience. The story is a little difficult to follow and not that interesting, but the gameplay makes up for it tenfold. Recommended for fans of Quake, Doom, and Serious Sam.

at first i thought kinda cool but it gets boring really quick and i played it for longer than i should've. You fight through endless hords of robots with mildly interesting weapons. The story is boring and the main characters voice acting sucks. Hard Reset Redux had a lot of potential, but it overstays its welcome half way through. About three hours in, it turns into a serious slog. The game isn't horrible, but it relies on a lot of crappy ideas that were already past their prime and not fun in 2011. The only thing it has to challenge you is cliched boss battles where you circle strafe in an arena for seven minutes hitting glowing spots and tons of endlessly respawning trash mobs. Riveting stuff. At a certain point the upgrade system…

Hard Reset Redux needs a hard shutdown. Story If there IS a story here, it's utterly unfinished and lost in translation. Set in the year 2436, players take on the role of a man named Fletcher who describes himself as a soldier for the unironically named "Corporation" who defend a city called Bezoar from a horde of robots that threaten it. That's the most concrete information you'll get for the rest of the game. It'll spout several unexplained terms like "exterior AI" and allude to all sorts…

Very fun shooter with a short lenght but very replayable, the improvements and changes from the original to Redux make the experience a lot less frustrating and feel like a fair challenge. I beat the game in hard, insane and heroic mode and I thought I was going to struggle a lot more. The cyberpunk setting is fantastic and the encounters feel chaotic and fun. Quick switching weapons is very important, trying to keep them stunned as long as possible helps a lot to deal with the biggest threats.…

Trash game. Good trash but trash nonetheless. 5/10. -Bugs/Performance: This culminates all the problems with this game. There are just so many janky movements, AI getting stuck in debris, Doors being locked which requires reload save, Missiles disappearing. It is just a mess of design. I did not find many bugs but when I did, they were absolutely infuriating. Most fixes to my problems was reload save which made me be an expert at pressing F5. You then have very awkward movement that crashing…

While not absolutely bad, but pretty dull. Shooting enemies is just sparkles glittering on them until they explode, without any oomph on it. This review is purely from a gameplay standpoint, as the story is the exact same in both games (and barely even exists to begin with). You don't even need to understand the story to have a good time anyway. Hard Reset is a perfect 5/10 experience, originally releasing in 2011 in the modern day the Redux plays similar to Doom. This does try and mix up the formula introducing enemies that react to limb shots, a focus on environmental damage and a weapon system where your guns transform rather than having several different weapons with some really nice animations. However the charm eventually wears off with these enemies taking just 9 hours to beat it honestly felt twice as long as the enemies…

The problem with this is that shooting robots isn't very satisfying. It means there's no blood, there's no gore, & there's no gibs.
