It has a lot of serious flaws, like: - they cut half of the levels and sell them to you separately, and there's no edition of this game that includes them, except the anthology of ALL THE POSSIBLE PARTS, including sh**ty spin-offs; - previously certain levels had certain enemies that suited the style and logic. now every level contains a mishmash of enemies from…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In light of the recent announcement of the franchise’s return, I decided to open the dusty, rotting, cobweb-covered trunk of my library of almost-forgotten (but still dearly loved) classics and fire up the powerful and timeless Painkiller: Black Edition Painkiller is the essence of an era—a fantasy and tone that captures everything early 2000s kids thought was cool, in all its embarrassingly simple and cringe-worthy glory: Leather jackets and jeans, cowboy boots, guns, and a soundtrack that…

Painkiller Hell & Damnation: A remake of the OG and as a result, it is a solid entry worth playing, albeit similar. A lot of changes were made some for the best some watering down the experience, but ultimately if you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worse than the original in just about every way except for visual fidelity, but even then the original still looks from a visual standpoint way better. Missing loads of levels even with every DLC, pointless changes to level design and gameplay, controls and hit detection feel way worse than the original, some tarot cards just don't work at all; it's terrible.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ive enjoyed og game a lot, did almost every challenege etc, but this is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. i did everything here in 4 hours on hard. they cut out like half of the levels and the most remarkable ones arent present and they sell them as dlcs. graphics are ok but things like gore and ragdolls are somehow worse than in 2004 wich is hilarious, just stick with the orginal with fan patch tbh.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Painkiller: Hell & Damnation remains a timeless classic, delivering unadulterated gaming bliss. A refreshing throwback to an era where games focused solely on entertainment, free from extraneous distractions. A true testament to the power of straightforward, skill-driven gameplay, this title continues to captivate audiences with its intense action and uncompromising challenge. If you're seeking an unapologetically fun gaming experience, look no further.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →“This is how we bring about our own damnation, you know-by ignoring the voice that begs us to stop.” ~Stephen King The story of the Painkiller series is a sad one. It only had one game that was worth playing, while soon after, the IP became the victim of one heck of a mistreatment. DreamCatcher took it from its creators, People Can Fly; then JoWooD purchased DreamCatcher; then both went bankrupt and ended up being consumed by Nordic Games (now THQ Nordic) and disappearing. Lots of steps, huh?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Missing entire levels and removes some of my favourite enemies. The Orphanage and City levels now suck ass and fail to create the original atmosphere. Get the original.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am 32 years old. My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old. When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing the original and this back and forth, it's very clear to me that the original Painkiller comes together much better in terms of visuals, tech, sound, and overall feeling and implementation. Hell and Damnation suffers from a very generic Unreal Engine 3 vibe, clearly built on top with minimal engineering effort to adapt the engine to the needs, vs. the original, which had an entire tech stack developed and adapted just for that project and its vision & needs alone. How does this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its not great but its still better than Painkiller 2025 and thats enough for me.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing side by side, I would say that this game is the best way to experience Painkiller nowadays. It has good graphics and the best maps of the original and previous entries. Buy it on a big sale with all DLC and enjoy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rather play "Painkiller Black Edition". Even this game have slightly better graphic, but the FPS are all over the place, some where you can have 120, some spots drops under 20. Some weapon missing sound or have odd animations. Most of the content what is in black edition is under DLC... And some other DLC mods are absurdly stupid/broken. Time to Time you can get stuck in geometry when Bhopping. in some maps, game can randomly crash. and some wierd map scripts were not fixed in this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even for nostalgia it is bad this is just another serious sam, in hell. I mean they really are the same, nothing interesting just run gun and get the end, no enemy A.I no skill or tactics needed. Just not worth coming back to in my opinion. Some games are, this one is not.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is a frustrating attempt to resurrect a classic, and unfortunately, it never comes close to the spirit of the original. The fast-paced, arena-style shooting that once defined the series feels uneven and oddly hollow here, with encounters that swing between mindless and monotonous. Instead of the tight, skill-driven chaos fans loved, you get waves of enemies that often feel copied, pasted, and drained of personality. Level design is a mixed bag: some areas clearly…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a remaster of the original Painkiller in Unreal Engine 3 with 2/3 of the game locked behind paid DLC. The graphical improvements aren't that massive but the performance cost is. Sound is much worse with no way to enable HRTF surround sound which was amazing in the original. Animation quality is worse, game is even easier than before and you can beat it in about 5 hours on first playthrough. The levels that are available in the base game are repackaged in different order. The story is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Trash game. Don't buy. Lost progress and got stuck because they spawned an enemy clipped behind walls. Spent several minutes wandering an empty arena with dramatic fight music playing and couldn't trigger the next wave because one stupid mob was off map.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not great game IMO. Update to new engine removed old engine quirks, like bunny hopping on walls and etc. Only recreates few missions from the game, with more humorous tone than originals insane and dark tone. There is no replay value of the originals.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its like a fake game someone plays in a movie
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game, reminiscent of classic shooters like Doom and Duke Nukem with a modern twist, delivers a blast of pure, unadulterated fun – albeit in a short-lived package. While the campaign lacks depth and narrative complexity, the inclusion of massive DLC packs (albeit lacking narrative connection and replayability) extends the experience considerably. However, the slicing of content into DLC feels like a blatant cash grab. The absence of inventory management, resource gathering, quick-time…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's just a worse version of the original.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finished original Painkiller when it was released and loved it. Lately I had the idea of going back to it, saw this version which has better graphics and gave it a go. It is still really fun but the level order is messed up because they released missing levels as DLC which seems like a very bad idea. It wouldn't have that much backlash if they released all levels at release. Anyway it is like around $1.5 at sale so I can say massive value for the price.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not an amazing remaster. The performance is quite bad, the visuals look worse as a 2012 game than the original did as a 2004 game (Seriously, the post processing is atrocious). Some levels are just... gone now for some reason? This is most noticeable IN THE FIRST EPISODE. While this version includes controller support, it is quite bad with some awful sensitivity settings. Outside of this, there are some bad detail changes, like blood no longer leaks off walls and ragdolls no longer pin to them…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Serious Sam + doom = Painkiller Hell & Damnation
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Responsiveness, framerate and latency on my 3070ti feel horrible, compared to the original releases running on my old GTX 250; and no ammount of playing around with the graphical options can fix that. Maybe I'm a bizzare freak-case, or maybe other gamer don't care about the "floaty" and latent controls. In any case, SKIP THIS AND BUY ANOTHER BUMMER SHOOTER.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Smells more like helluva fart Not a big fan of the series still I think this one falls short despite everything. Some of the entries in the series where actually not bad considering old school shooting mayhem. Level design is worse and AI nerfed in this entry. Better play Overdose or the second expansion.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i made my gay friend play this now he wont p lay games with me
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is what a bare minimum looks like. It's prettier, the godawful bosses were somewhat improved. Some levels are a little remixed, I guess. The base game is also missing around 60% of its content and isn't complete even with all of the DLCs. By the way, these DLCs do not properly integrate the missing levels into the campaign; you just awkwardly select them from a separate menu. However, they found time and money to (very poorly) add a top-down shooter mode. Huh? Buy it with proper…

If you have difficulties in the walktrough, this guide will be very useful: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3561496240 MAX PAYNE GONE CRAZY Painkiller: Hell & Damnation is a game that somehow managed to run on my PC without instantly crashing, unlike the other games in the series. And that's pretty much the only thing going for it. Basically, it's kind of a remake or remaster of the first game, but it doesn't really make it any more thrilling. Structurally,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Showing it's age. Gameplay is being dumped on a map (in some cases just a large room) shooting a load of spawning enemies to a generic guitar soundtrack until you've hit your quota and the red circle appears indicating you can proceed to the next bit. For what it's worth the graphics are fine and the ways in which you're able to eviscerate your enemies can be entertaining but running round the same patch shooting waves of demons is a little dull. I do like the narrative behind it all (man in…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played and finished the "original" back when it was a game that fit on a single cd rom and "ragdoll" physics was a brand new concept. I really enjoyed it at the time, especially the stake gun, because nothing like that had ever existed before. But it is WILD to see how much these types of games have improved since then because this is so unbelievably barebones I'm almost embarrassed for liking it back then. It's just SO repetitive. Endless enemies and all you can do is just strafe and shoot.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Flawed diamond. Pros: + (kinda) Painkiller Black Edition, but with better graphics + new weapon + some music changes are great ! (yes, the one in Colosseum really slaps) Cons: - minor bugs still exist (bunny hopping can sometimes launch player into random direction) - polish dubbing is obnoxious K**WA bad - in cutscenes we can listen to some hmmm dialogue cut off ? I don't know maybe everyone in this game has dementia and they forgot what they wanted to say in the middle of sentence ? -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →overall decent. story is short, you can beat it in two days. Get all the DLC. This game is a nice remix of levels and some of the challenges are fun. The cutscene in the train station is funny. I think the decision to sell the original game levels as DLC was a bad move. There is also no connection to Overdose, Resurrection or the others. You may like it, you may hate it. It's cheap and not a bad spend for $15. Or you can ignore me. I like it though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game has put me in a weird position, where I did enjoy it, but I can't really recommend it. on it's own it's a fairly enjoyable if somewhat mediocre "go into room kill everything go to next room" style shooter. but painkiller black is right there and it's literally the same thing but better. this is supposed to be a remake, and it sort of is, except the story continues on from the later entries. so you're playing the same levels in a different context. and (unless you got the DLC…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game, the gothic theme and arena shooter aesthetic are interesting to me. The multiplayer is completely dead. Co-op simply does not work. The unskippable loading screen movies are extremely loud regardless of whatever volume setting the master volume is on, even at 0% volume of master volume the loading screen movies just are at max volume which is very fcking annoying. And lastly, the story, the cutscenes, they're just corny, like a less self aware serious sam. Also, to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hell and Damnation is a super underrated remake. It ropes in the best parts of the original while cutting the fluff it suffered from. That and fixing weird design choices like overly cryptic bosses. More than anything, it doesn't crash over a million times like Painkiller black does
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Painkiller: Hell & Damnation, developed by The Farm 51 and published by Prime Matter under THQ Nordic, is a modernized reimagining of the cult-classic first-person shooter that once defined chaotic, arena-based action. Originally released as a remake and partial sequel to the 2004 Painkiller, this version seeks to blend the nostalgic ferocity of the original with the visual polish of Unreal Engine 3. From the very first level, it becomes clear that this is not a subtle experience—it’s a…
