Hard Reset Extended Edition
Developer Flying Wild Hog
Hard Reset is a 2011 first-person shooter game developed by Flying Wild Hog and released for Windows in September 2011. The game features a cyberpunk plot within a dystopian world, and draws inspiration from the works of William Gibson, Neal Stephenson, and Philip K. Dick to create its story, setting and atmosphere. In 2012, Hard Reset received a free expansion titled Hard Reset: Exile, and was then bundled as Hard… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

The content lenght is the same, it is just 20% harder. The DLC, that is included here, is also included in Redux. This is a very good game, I'm putting this under negative review only to warn potential buyers to buy the Redux version, and not this one. Why? Because Hard Reset Redux is the refined, enchanted version of this game. They fixed…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got baited into buying this game by my friend because he said we can play the multiplayer together Not only did he never install the damn thing but this game does not even have multiplayer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Maybe too fast paced for my taste, it really requires fast reflexes and me at my 50's I don't really do that anymore. Its pretty and has decent sound design. The aiming is wonky, jumping is odd, overall it feels like a meh, experience. There are all sort of upgrades in the game but I am not even sure if I have used any of them? I mean its ok. But not something i would recommend at least in 2024
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a litany of all the worst design decisions of the 2000s. The weapons are either laughably weak or ridiculously overpowered, have underwhelming sounds, and look like free assets someone slammed together; the enemies are oddly-shaped, blend in too well with the cityscape, react to being hit by either ignoring it or tumbling like a novice pro wrestler, can melee the player from much farther away than seems reasonable, and sometimes take a few seconds to actually die after you kill them;…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not worth playing in 2023 unless you're into the old-school arena shooter. arena style shooter, boring bullet sponge enemies, floaty movement, and low impact guns. i liked shadow warrior reboot, but this one was a pain to get through.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR runs great on modern hardware (Win 11 4k240p), a vintage style game which is fun, but bad combat due repetition and a lack of feedback and cues. Redux does not fix my issues. Go play Painkiller: Black Edition instead. I agree and disagree with other reviewers. The Misunderstood Jumping was clunky, movement was sluggish, level design was weird – that’s the point. It's probably one of the biggest selling points of Hard Reset: a (then) modern retelling of vintage fps. I didn’t feel…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I return every few years to replay Hard Reset, mostly nostalgia because it was one of the first games I played once I got my first PC. If you enjoy the work Flying Wild Hog has done with the first Shadow Warrior, then I'd say give this cyberpunky dystopian a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard Reset (Extended Edition) is a fast-paced old-school FPS with fantastic cyberpunk visuals full of neon lights and explosions. It's challenging, focused solely on movement and nonstop action. The world is also reactive, full of destructible environments, and the enemies visibly fall apart while you're fighting them. There are some difficulty spikes, and the checkpoint system doesn't always work in your favor. Also, the story is forgettable and even confusing, but that isn't why you are…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simulator of running backwards
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you're sensitive to screen shaking - don't play this game. The reason is the developers' decision to not add recoil to weapons in their game, but instead make screen shake violently when you're shooting. And because it's a shooter game, you'll be shooting a lot. There is no option to disable it, nor there were ever made any kind of mods which would add such an option. As a result, I can't play it for more than 20-30 minutes without getting strong headaches. That's a real shame, because…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good graphics for the period it was released and still looks good after 14 years of its release. There are some minor graphics glitches I have encountered during start of some levels, where restarting the game fixes it. Can be completed within a few hours, it is a good shooter set in a cyberpunk story line. However, the focus is not on story line and its all about shooting and boss fights. I have played the Extended Edition with all the DLCs included and it took less than 10 hrs to complete it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A flawed shooter with great non-stop action, made by a talented team that's still finding their footing. Beautiful to look at, but suffers from a lot of visual clutter during combat making it hard to make out what you're seeing. Writing is absolutely horrendous, which renders the comic story scenes between levels useless. The game is hard. You will die on normal if you're careless or don't utilize your weapons properly.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros -Beautiful future dystopian setting -Fun and fluid level designs(only a little backtracking through certain levels) -lots of achievements Cons -About a 5-6 hour campaign(Too short) -Cut-scenes are in a comic book style Overall If you like boomer shooters than this is a fun and pretty one you can beat in a day or two. if you can get it for cheap even better
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Abysmal dogsht. Even serious sam was less nagging with its arena battles, at least it had effects on enemies spawning in your ass. Most unreal engine 3 looking game imaginable. Looks disgusting with all the post processing, blur you cant turn off, terrible lighting that somehow makes all surfaces and object glisten like a diddy party room.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It get boring because all you do is just shooting the swarming bots.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There isn't much of a story and it gets straight to the point, you shoot your way around in Quake style, the game is kept quite simple and you shouldn't expect a blockbuster title here. It still plays well and is definitely quite nice for in-between times. The only thing that bothers me is that I had the bug twice that the whole level was displayed without any wall or floor textures, so you wander through the level and have to guess where the invisible walls are, unfortunately the only thing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's nothing wrong with the game it works fine, just found it boring. I don't care I only spend three dollars. If you like something when your standard are low does that make it good. If you're hungry is cold pizza good?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty awesome game! it's an oldie? hell yeah but it rocks. You've 2 guns, the assault rifle aka (CLN Modular Assault Rifle) and plasma gun aka (N.R.G. weapon). You can add nade launcher, zoom, change the range, more magazine, more power for the blast of your plasma gun, etc. Smth excellent is that you don't need to reload at all, when you kill the enemies that are plentiful such as, robdoggies, gorillas, some mini bosses that run at you lol and one of them looks like the ED-209 from the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played it from start to finish at least twice, maybe more. remember the original version and the remaster with additions and better balance. always was a worthy successor to Painkiller. at the time of release, when everyone else was trying to make their own Call of Duty, Hard Reset was a very brave, surprising game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →boomer shooter. too spammy and pointless for my taste. and it's really old. combat isnt satisfying enough to make the shooting worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played for the first time in 2025. A great first person shooter with tons of style and very pretty visuals. Closely resembles Doom in terms of the gameplay. I had a great time with Hard Reset. The gameplay was exciting, the controls were enjoyable, and the weapons were interesting and loads of fun. The level design is somewhat linear, but is very well laid out with few invisible walls and such. Those who enjoy secret hunting will be well satisfied. While I'm not a die-hard secret…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not GREAT, but not BAD. Classic old school FPS. Unload bullets into targets. Rinse. Repeat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Derivative, dull, slow and boring, but nice visuals for an old game. The player character bobs his head too much and moves too slow. There are too many screen effects and switching between weapons takes too long. The maps are linear shooting galleries. It's not a bad game, but I found it difficult to enjoy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a fun, low-impact boomer shooter with just enough story to keep things moving along without feeling stale. I think the negative reviews are from individuals expecting this to be cyber-Doom, and it's not. It's not GOTY; it's got some rough edges, but it's a beautiful world and fun game to dive into for a couple missions here and there of dumb shooter antics. Grab it on sale, don't expect the world, and it'll be a fun dopamine reset.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've tried to give this an honest go on three separate occasions over the past 10 years. There's just only so much patience I have for bullet sponge battering rams and corridors full of suicide bombers. Shall I use the blue trapping gun with AoE or the red trapping with AoE?- so much weapon diversity!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't know why people are saying it's a "bad game". This is a Boomer Shooter, thru and thru. It's only "bad" if you expect anything else out of it. The story is there, it does its job. Nothing Shakespeare levels, but it settled the mood. Then again, you're here for the action. Shoot things. Use the eviroment in your favor. Explore the maps and find secrets, usualy, more currency, to enable you to upgrade/unlock new weapons. Rinse, repeat, next area. Watch some cutscenes animated to look like…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Robots go smash; repeat for however long you feel like it; happiness.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The first impression was that the game is an unbearably boring and monotonous corridor shooter. But after completing the first few monotonous levels, it gets a little better. In general, the game is not bad, considering that there are not so many cyberpunk shooters now.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is fantastic! It's gorgeous, cyberpunk setting, alright story, and a pure-breed shooter. Most importantly, Easy mode is a breeze for a casual gamer. Especially if you learn how to make use of the environment. I cannot recommend this game enough!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As good looking and nice that game can be, it is fundamentaly flawed, the encounters level design is not good and doesn't feel suited for this kind of gameplay, this makes the overall game experience mediocre, the game has interesting ideas and is not waste of time if you're the curious kind of guy...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What Is a City Without Its People? I paused for a moment after the fray with the Machines in the city of Bezoar. It had been a restless night, yet the scent of white steam rising from the sewers still clung to the air. Down here, the city resembles a scrapyard; far above, I glimpse flying cars and vast, soaring motorways. People once lived here. Now they are gone. Neon lights still wash the streets and narrow alleys in colour, but I cannot tell whether those above remain, or whether they…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fun challenge that gives a unique kind of experience between the weapons and game play. You basically have to use the environment to your advantage and sometimes that involves dying a few times to learn where things are. Hard mode is hard and insane mode is indeed insane. Not for the faint of heart but definitely give it a try if you like FPS games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like Serious Sam or Painkiller set in a dystopian cyberpunk world. Game has nice graphics, upgradeable weapons, nonstop action and lots of achievements. However, it can be a little messy and hard sometimes. But overall, it is a really good and solid game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun shooter, nice backstory, too bad there's no sequel. It's one of those game that you enjoy because you don't have to think about it, it all kind of happens and flow, run shoot boom boom story shoot boom , and it does that well :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing a bunch of older FPS games, and i cannot enjoy this one. I was hoping for something like quake, turok, doom 3, or one of the modern boomer shooters. But i just find the enemy design and the aesthetics to be off putting. My major gripe in the 45 minutes i've played is that it is hard to see anything whilst firing. The effects are all obnoxious. The muzzle flash of your weapon, combined with the levels being saturated in explosive barrels and various electrical effects…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The smallest games are sometimes the most rewarding. Pretty graphics. Nice shooting. Classic FPS. 7.5/10 - Old School Reboot Shooter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Negatives: - Not much in the way of real sex appeal. - No character customisation, no ability to play a female character. You play as John Redux. - You mostly be shooting robots. The problem with this is that shooting robots isn't very satisfying. It means there's no blood, there's no gore, & there's no gibs. Positives: - Low price, especially if you grab it on a deep sale. - Characters aren't deliberately ugly. - Explosive barrels. Notes: - The games narrative & setting…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gave it a try but did not keep my attention. Drab locations, monotonous combat, this one is just not for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Hard Reset and I can recommend the original if you re curious about it but after playing it and compared to redux...its not good, Redux fixes the most important issues of the original game making it a challenging but fair experience. Play redux.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome game , if you like Serious Sam games the you will love this one
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →SHoot robot and blow ♥♥♥♥ up Good old fashioned shooty fuycking ♥♥♥♥ up Umm don't think theres much story or stuff but you can shoot stuff I recommend playing while asbsolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sloshed so you can be a t peak performance shoting those robots Trust me ♥♥♥♥♥ bag
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old School game but cool game. Being old get it on sale. Some Tips: - The story isn't that interesting. Unless you really care about it you can skip every "comic" sequence without missing anything important gameplay-wise. - Forget everything you learned from shooters in the last decade (except Serious Sam). This game is all about hitting the enemy with overwhelming firepower while dodging rockets and gunfire. - Get the grenade launcher and the gravity round upgrade ASAP. After that go for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't seem I can get the Redux version at all, even if I have a key for it. Fix the issue or give us Extended owners a free Redux already...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Underappreciated boomer-shooter. Runs fantastic. Looks Fantastic. It's pretty hard. Lots of cool gun mods. All the effects look cool. This game is great for if you only have 15-20 minutes and want to shoot and blow stuff up. Lots of particle physics and explosions and lighting. Nothing too deep tho.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Hard Reset for the simple fact that its a fast paced shooter with loads of enemies. Also, robots and all kinds of explosives items in the game go boom boom when you shoot them. Always fun to blow stuff up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →80/100 Hard Reset is nothing more than a fun and challenging old school fps developed by Flying Wild Hog. Fast gameplay, great cyberpunk environments and levels, great weapon design (only 2 weapons but each with 8 fire modes!). Moreover you can jump into the new game+ (ex mode) keeping all your upgrades or test yourself in the survival mode. Lack of enemy variety, repetitive environments and its short campaign are holding it back from being a truly **great** game, and personally I'm not a fan…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard reset is a fun shooter with a decent background story and great visuals. The fun of environmental destruction really brings this game up more, as explosions and EMPs wreck havoc on enemies.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One day my friend the evil ifrit was scouring the wasteland of my Steam reviews. Stumbling upon my Hard Reset: Redux one,he said: ‘Uh-uh. You know B-shooters? This is the gold of B-shooters. They ruined all the balance in Redux’. Well, sure, why not. The game looks attractive enough. Going in on extreme difficulty. Should have known better given that having beaten the two remake Shadow Warrior games I’m aware of Flying Wild Hog’s propensity to morbidly bloat enemy health on higher…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hard Reset is basically: kill ♥♥♥♥, get better weapons, kill more ♥♥♥♥, and occasionally question why the enemy designers hate you. It's another one of those DOOM-style FPS games where the objective is refreshingly simple: run around, shoot everything that moves, collect better weapons and gear, and try not to get blown up by the enemies that apparently have no concept of self-preservation. Speaking of which, the kamikaze enemies are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hilarious. They see you and immediately decide that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't bother wasting your time on this. This was a game of quantity over quality. After spending almost 2 hrs trying to get past boss battle (Atlas), this game just proves (by its own stupidity) it's a pointless endevour. As for the achievement.......going right into a garbage can. (I'm so glad I didn't waste more than $1.69 buying this game - and the programming/mechanics/level design/story/music/menus ALL prove how really bad it is.....just imagine, there are "hidden object games" FAR more…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not the worst but I don't see myself playing this again. The game was made some of the guys who made Painkiller a wonderful FPS from the 2000's. So my expectations were high. This game has a lot of hard spikes even normal, some areas will take multiple attempts till the enemies and your aim line up just right. I get the concept your a human taking on enemy machines so of course your at a disadvantage and they take way more punishment than you, but it makes for a very maddening gameplay loop.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Old school FPS, think Serious SAM, but with robots... pick up on the cheap for a solid 8hrs of scrap metal making!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's worth it on a sale I'd say. The 2010-2015 era was full of uninspired singleplayer first person shooters. Thankfully, this one actually stands out. The enemy design is solid, it's not just humans with firearms, but they're all rather unique and fun to face. The weapons we get are fun to use, even though there's a "meta" to them, it's still fun to experiment with them. The story and characters are rather bland, but still, it's a fun game to play through. My only major complain is, what…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worth a play, even in 2025. It can feel a little clunky at first, but plays well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get it on discount , good nobrainer, just total destruction
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A FPS with the weakest version of Serious Sam/Painkiller's design philosophy. But is still fun in it's own weird way. Hard Reset is a FPS game developed by Flying Wild Hog and prides itself as a "Old School" shooter. Being it was released during a time where the modern military shooter was king. And games like Rise of the Triad 2013 and Wrack weren't out yet to start the spark of the "Retro FPS Renaissance". Hard Reset stands as a interesting time capsule where old school FPS games more or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Funny fast shootiing game , but story campagin feels unfinished and end game credits came like some face slap. But otherwise, game is good one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty unusual game for its non-typical enemies in an FPS—no humans or humanoid enemies shooting at you from cover—and an inventive weapon system. Basically, you have only two weapons, but you can switch different modules for various purposes. I can’t count this as a big plus because I’m more used to classical weapon systems, but it’s definitely clever. As for the gameplay, at some point, it becomes tedious and tiresome. On Insane difficulty, you pretty soon end up only using two weapons—the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an ok game, 7/10 Shoot em up, gets pretty intense on higher difficulty
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm not a huge fan of shooters but I really enjoyed the whole cyberpunk-dystopian robot hell vibe of this game. There's not much to say, you shoot robots, you dodge their attacks... The graphics are pretty good and don't require a great gpu. I really liked that intro menu music btw. I just wished there were more bosses, there were too few and far between, which makes the game seem a little bit repetitive and the scenarios can be very samey at times. It's still a great game though, specially…
