Grow up in the United States during peak 1990s. Information • 12 romanceable characters? (There a guides that claim they know each characters’ romantic preferences, but I keep finding conflicting info, and experiencing different stuff in playthroughs. I honestly have no idea what the characters’ official preferences are supposed to be. This is why, for game mechanic simplicity, everyone should be bisexual.) • 52 career endings. • Typical gender binary assigning at birth. No option…

okay, so, this game was decent. if we're using the rating system i use i would give it three stars. which translates to "there are a few awesome things about it, but there are also a few things wrong with it." to be clear, i played through the first main story, and got to the beginning of when the kid i grew up as had his own kid. the good things are: the writing was decent. i like the way they characterized people and the dialogue didn't feel offensive or emersion breaking, honestly all the…

Gets very repetative dont mind the simulation, but could do with more story.. College -> Adulthood. Its like it has the start, gets to the middle and resets. While the game will let you go through multiple generations there is little in the way of agency, and what you did in 1st gen, will essentially have zero impact on 2nd gen. In fact it practically is a repeat effectively time-warping backwards with random dice roll as to which friends will get introduced. The adults around town also are…

    - Was born - learned to crawl - face planted a lot - got older - made friends with the weird kid who got bullied - turns out I suck at math just like in real life - broke some stuff - set out to be an artist - got older - the quiet kid got a crush on me - helped a negging jerk with his aspirations - got older - dad told me boys won't like me if I'm too fat - barely balanced crippling school work and parental expectations with mental health (apparently playing catch is more important than acing…

I was hoping for a bit more after we finished school but there wasn't. I love the mind map a lot but can't help but feel there was so much that could have been done with this game or at least have the ending a bet more drawn out and layered based off your personality or something.

If your mental health gets poor, it's simply a game over as you are doomed to take antidepressants forever. Who the hell wrote this as an ending and why do you think this is ok? Beyond the ignorant "Bad End", it's truly a dice roll of events. Everyone person I met was not interested in my character romantically, so I ended up getting a wife slightly off screen and having a child to do it all over again. Best part is that your previous character becomes the same parent that was terrible to…

A bit of a disappointing game. Graphics are stunning and the concept is great. However, some parts of it got more frustrating than entertaining. For starters, I think that the mental health/parental support balance is far too unbalanced. The parents get so easily disappointed for things they should be happy their kid is doing (eg. going out and doing things, I understand why it removes some approval but -8 for skateboarding??? An outside activity that most parents would be pretty supportive…

Solidly fun. I won't pretend its perfect, as those looking for flaws will find them, but I've been having a lot of fun with this. The biggest issue that I've had is how it ends with graduating high school, and while I know why that is, it still leaves me wanting more. Which, if a game leaves you feeling like its biggest flaw is that you want more of it? It's why I'd definitely recommend it for anyone who's into life sims or other "playing with dolls" type games! (Tho, maaaybe wait for it to go…

The game isnt as fun as its colorful visuals might suggest. In fact, its very, very repetitive. The player simply has to find the perfect balance between happiness and relationship with characters parents, and stick to that strategy. There are other, more effective ways to improve characther grades and boost mood. Its a shame that once u ve exceeded a certain score on the final exam, u dont earn any more points. Finding the balance isnt that hard — u just have to constantly calculate and…

It was fun at the start but gets extremely repetitive, especially the puzzles. I wish there was more content with the player character's family aside from them giving you endless sidequests that also get repetitive. I would have rated this game positively if it wasn't for the disappointing ending. You just finish another puzzle for the SATs and then they tell you what happened to your character with a rushed time skip. If you also didn't feel like romancing any of your friends, the game just…

Growing Up is a life management sim where you guide a character from childhood to adulthood over 18 years, shaping their skills and relationships. A great pick for anyone who enjoys narrative-based life or raising sims. I’ve played through a few generations now, and while there are things that could be refined in a sequel, overall it’s a thoughtful and fun game - especially for the price. Visuals & Music The art style is honestly one of the best in the genre. It’s warm, expressive, and fits perfectly with the story’s tone. The soundtrack also deserves praise - chill, nostalgic, and really sets the mood. Customisation Being able to…

The art is fantastic. I just want more incredibly basic 'princess builder' style games like this. Raise from birth and put x points into y to create z outcome.

Growing Up is a stat-raising life sim where you raise a child from birth to age 18 by having them learn skills, organize their schedule, fulfill parental expectations, and manage their mental health. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to make friends with other characters, and ultimately unlock an ending based on your skills and stats at graduation. The gameplay loop is pretty simple. Each turn, you select which attributes to level up in a minigame called the brain map. Then, you're…

It is at times tedious I will admit that. But I love this game.. It's just chill. Every now and then I will play this game for a while daily, then not touch it for a while.. But will always get back to it pretty much. I really wish there'd come more to it tho, but sadly I don't think it'll happen. But I'd love for it to get a DLC with new stuff, new characters... Or maybe a 2nd game with new people. The achievements are decent enough to do, although some of them was a bit... harder to get.

While I really did find the mechanics of the game fun once I figured them out and the overall story can be enjoyable, I think the fact that one of the characters will kill themselves if you do ONE thing wrong is gross. It's basically saying its your fault as the player. Really doesn't sit well with me at all..... I also truly hate the fact that the final puzzle is what seems to determine your outcome in life; sure the higher your exam readiness is, the more moves you get, but it doesn't…

A really fun, addicting game. I got all achievements because I quickly got sucked into trying to see all the possible endings, careers, friendships, and romances. The gameplay is simple and super repetitive though, and I found myself groaning a lot toward the end when I was just trying to see the last few things I was missing. In terms of plot, don't expect anything too deep. The main appeal is watching your character age and grow as you develop their skills (or don't, and just slack off). The…

5/10 Had a lot of potential but is ultimately disappointing. Gameplay becomes repetitive after a couple of hours. Romances revolve around trauma bonding with romancable NPCs, which means that any resemblance of a story requires you to pick choices that please the NPCs because the player characters has zero personality or personal desire. I like the slow development idea for sure. It is enjoyable as a kind of strategy game. I'd like to have more interaction with more characters. Very limited interaction with the few other characters who enter the story. The game needs more characters, more personal interaction, more potential for conflict and struggle. What about bad parents? Like, really bad parents?

If you liked Volcano Princess, Chinese Parents or the classic Princess Maker series, you'll likely enjoy this too. I loved the different stories that you can have with characters! And it was an unexpected surprise that the npcs have canonical sexualities rather than folding for your mc regardless of what (I still can NOT believe that Felicitie is straight). You can really play this with any future in mind and get a different ending. I love the way you can play through lifetimes and play as your children. If you love cosy, casual, story-rich games this is for you. :)

This is such a fun game, I really wish they were still adding new characters and features. This reminds me a lot of Whimsel Academy, and I was a Teenage Exocolonist. I had a lot of fun throughout the 22 hours I played. I will say that after about 8 playthroughs, the game becomes very repetitive since there is a limit to the number of NPCs and future jobs.

This game is super entertaining! But, there's some clear bias towards LGBTQ & POC. I've played through 5 generations and have been going for a straight, white character the whole time. Because that's what I am in real life. A straight white girl. And this game almost DEMANDS that you're gay, or black, or both. That part is pretty annoying. The story isn't as rewarding or fulfilling as other games in the genre, though, especially after your first few playthroughs.
