60 of 175 · most liked firstI must say, that given the reviews I did expect much worse from the game. Instead, while the learning curves is not super easy, and it might be a little limited on variety after a while, it's actually a pretty nice game. It's a bit of an economy manager and a grand strategy game in one, but to be honest it's pretty pleasant to play. A lot of reviews mention the need for micromanagement, but I managed to automate most of the functions (merchants and caravans) that keep my kingdom rich and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i guess this game is alright. when i looked at the time played i already put 18 hours in it but the longer you play the more you think how stupid this is. the start of the campaign is pretty fun as you follow the story getting through things pretty easy. then it suddenly starts to get a little grindy and long. it may be because i was doing it for the first time but i lost interest in it because of that so i jumped over to free mode. there you get to use everything you learned in full glory with…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an Medieval Economic Simulator If you're looking for Total War action, this is not it. If you're looking for spreadsheet like economics in a bland world, go for it. After two hours of this game, really trying to like it, I came to the eventual conclusion: This is an amazingly boring game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game should be called Spacebar and Left Click simulator! Do you like Crusader Kings 2? Well, this is not it :D This is a super mega lite version of that game. It's not a bad game, but it's very basic and after 5-6 hours of playing it I managed to reach the maximum level cap and expand like a pig over the map. The AI is retar-ded beyond belief. Diplomacy is a sick joke. Oh, and combat is a thing in this game!? The Pros: + it's a relaxing game to play, the music is awesome and even the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →incredibly boring game, way too much micromanagement. The screenshots and videos seemed really intriguing, i was very dissapointed with the final game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kalypso really bit the bullet on this one. The game has so much potential and they just gave up on it completely. They didn't even open the game up to the modding community. So much potential lost. I'm disappointed.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →THE WORST CASE OF MISMARKETING EVER (but still an OK introductory game for under 5€): Short Opinion: bought for 4€. It's a simple Patrician style game with a war twist for that price. I would reccomend it to any fan of the patrician series for UNDER 5€. DO NOT BUY AT FULL PRICE. Long Review: I did originally buy this game when it came out, for over 30€. Returned it after 15 min. It had been marketed has a grand strategy game à là Total War with a focus on trade. Absoluterly not that. This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They had good ideas... but none of them seem to have gotten into the final product.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do not understand why the rating of this game is so underrated. I guess maybe some people misunderstand the meaning of trading in this game, and find it difficalt. it is not a simple merchant thing anymore, since you are the lord of the land. Trading become :flow of the products, so called economic in nowadays. If you can build your empire stragictly and well manage, then you can then think about all the other conecpt of the game(such as diplomacy and war).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Follows Kalypso's® tried and tested formula of re-skinning another game they've put out, and in the process either breaking or stripping away anything of interest (likely because the skeleton crew of developers they've assembled for the task can't figure out how things work). This game is genuinely bad, and replete with bugs. It takes the economy aspects of Port Royale/Patrician and mixes it with 4X...except everything, including the economy, has been stripped to the barest of bareness. For…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its mainly a trade and economy based game. Its from the developers of port royale series, patrician series and railway empire (which i love). So if you like those kind of economy based games then you would like this one too. The war elements of it are weak so dont expect it to give you a total war gaming experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I tried this game, came back, tried it again, etc. Each time hoping I would find that it could grow on me. And each time I found myself bored with it after only a mere hour or two. Like others have said, it's a decent concept but executed poorly. It's the same products over and over again, with a scant selection of buildings and things to do. It COULD be made into an enjoyable game, but they haven't done it by now, and I don't think there's a real chance of it happening.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grand Ages: Medieval I don't usually write reviews for games - however since I think this game's rating is way out of wack, I wanted to clarify some things. This is all my opinion, don't @ me. Rating: Solid 7.5/10 TLDR; This is not your typical Empire building game. It focusses heavily on resource production and trade networks. There is less focus on the military/war aspects of the game, although still present. Diplomacy is weak for such a trade focussed game. In-game map can get tedious…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slow paced and lacking originality, this game is a disappointment. It is not a total wreck, far from it. It is merely an “ok” game, without much to distinguish it from many other games of this genre. Any game from the Anno series is much better.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The main focal point for Grand Ages: Medieval is trading and economics. You get to build roads to new cities, upgrade them so that way the caravans move faster, and to make trading that much faster. You get to build multiple resources from grain to beer to salt to meat and metal to tools. Certain resources are needed to make an item. An example being, you have to have wood to make salt and then salt to make meat. Another example could be you have to have coal and metal to make tools. You can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quasi-historical game about essentially building up a trading empire & nation. There are combat options, but that is not the main focus at all. The mechanics take a bit of getting used to, with some involved intricacies that don't quite function the way you might expect but makes for an interesting and unusual challenge.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was waaay overcomplicated for my taste. If you are a micro-manager at heart, then it might be for you. Honestly, I thought I might be considered a "micro-manager" in my gamer's heart, buuut, this game showed me I don't have the patience for this kind of thing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i should believe the bad reviews. Economy 5/10 fun at times Warfare 3/10 waste of time Politics 1/10 a disaster AI 1/10 makes you cry that being said, i bought this heavily discounted (under 5 usd).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game so much but it is just so frustrating. I've played strategy games for decades, right from early 90's CivNet, played all the big titles and a lot of the smaller ones too. This game looked to have bags of potential, but here are the problems I found and the reasons I would not recommend it to other players: Trade income is the game's life blood - one of the things that attracted me was this aspect, the thought of securing resources either by settlement and development…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a fan of econ simulators, especially in the middle ages. This game is **exactly** what I wanted.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →what i love about this game is that i can build the cities where i choose, and decide what resources to harvest. I like that i can develop large armies and also play anywhwere in europe. It is really cool that one can look at he lay of the lands resources prior to building your town. I do wish that there were more resources that i could build in each town other than a maximum of 5. also it wouldbe cool if i had the option to build stone walls at key choke points over the lay of the land. This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't buy. Could have been good, but too many bugs and totally broken mechanics that make the game unplayable after the first 45 minutes. No support or plans to fix, zero care for this game from day 1 when I bought it. I remember being very disappointed with what it could have been.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game if you're slightly older. I feel an adult like me in their early late thirties, maybe their early forties— will appreciate this game for what it is. Anyone in their teens and young adults-I feel they won't. Youngsters want high graphic, hold-your-hand type games. Maybe even a good story and plenty of action. Trading will bore the young gamers. I could be wrong though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The mechanics are about as deep as a wading pool, and it's not even that rewarding to see your treasury get bigger since there is only one way to play the game. If you don't adhere to the strict "guidelines" the devs have put out, you are actively working to put your empire in the ground. Boring as hell as it isn't even difficult to figure out the special balance as it is literally just keep all businesses at the same level. watch a 15 minute video on how to not lose and you're now a master of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is expensive and boring, it has a beautiful story, but it's too short. This is nothing like Grand Ages: Rome. Good idea but bad work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It alright, but it gets boring fast.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is nothing like Grand Ages: Rome. Avoid.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Personally I really liked this game, infact I have spent a lot of time playing it. It's really addictive!! Also I never experienced a bug or a crash while playing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For someone who is not very good at these type of games like me, don't worry. The campaign helps you a lot on what to do and what to click so you can progress on your empire and story :) I noticed that when managing your empire, its crucial to have your traders trade themselves automatically through throught routes defined by you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has (had?) potential, but it isn't fully satisfying. For more details, read some of the top-rated reviews for this game. Here are a few of my opinions that come to mind: * I expected this game to be a mix of trade/economy and combat. Well, I've spent 46 hours in the Campaign mode, and I have not had one single battle against any AI ruler. The only combat has been occasional skirmishes with animals, bandits and pirates from time to time. Otherwise, it's been essentially Medieval…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →enjoyed it, for 1 hour! Never play again. Played in 10 more hours, The Dynamics of this game are complex, however, just put everything on Auto and it will be fine. I assume after the main mission it will turn to crap. it more about accounting then actually game. Combats a joke. It is worth about 4.99$ usdollars.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For me this runs stable... but honestly... it's boring, plain and simple: Boring. If one want to compare this game to another one I'd suggest comparing it with Patrizier (the Hanseatic Leagu Game, don't know the english title) but not with ships instead with carts. You connecting two towns, you see what resources they can provide and than you start a Trade Route. That's almost all you do... surely you can build a few extra Bulding (e.g. Church) in the towns but ... I find this boring. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Day 1 - Installed, played for just over 2 hours. Happy Day 2 - wouldn't load, tried guidance which failed, asked for money back but got advised I'd played it for over 2 hours so wouldn't be refunded. Angry It's not a game, it's a bug ridden con. DON'T BUY THIS GAME.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →|The ideo of this game is really good. But it deffinetly needed more developer support. The game seems like in early acces format. And im serious. It seemed that this could be the only game where i could be okey with resource managments. And even worse. Combat is in really bad shape. Like it seems that 1 unit can combat only another one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly, this game is under appreciated based on it's current reviews. Though, Grand Age : Medieval is a bit repetitive and requires a lot of micro management in the long run like most of good RTS nowadays. It's awesome features of economic that needs knowledge about supply and demand, a unique military style unit system, and organically town development characteristics when being zoomed in is one of a kind. Although, it's a bit boring at the mid and end game of the campaign, because lack of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is it just me, or does this game shut down so suddenly for everyone else?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed figuring out the economic system and how things hang together as you expand, and at the sale price it's a bargain for this recommended experience. After about a dozen cities I adopted a more efficient cookie cutter grind (being sets of 4 mostly self-sufficient cities at a time), and while I finished the campaign I think the time required for this would have been better spent elsewhere. If you like figuring out systems and are into trading and building with some OCD/micromanagement…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a bit of a soft spot for me. I love these sorts of economy management games (Rise of Venice, Patrician etc.), and I love that you can essentially build your own empire. That being said, I would love for there to be other scenarios, other maps, another campaign or something else to flesh it out. A lot of the hours spent on this game for me have been restarting scenarios, trying to find ideal places to start up the crux of the empire, finding areas with okay harvestable resources -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good economy/trading management game. Reminds me of games like Port Royale or Patrician but with a more medieval flavor so if that sounds interesting to you then you'll probably enjoy this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having spent a great deal of hours in Grand Ages: Rome which I loved every second of, I was super excited to learn that Grand Ages: Medieval would be released, so it was an insta-buy for me, thinking it would be a sequel. However, I have only played it 1.2 hours, which is all I could put up with it. What. a. letdown. compared to Grand Ages: Rome. It's incredibly bland and uninteresting. Build cities, set up trade, gather ressources, rinse and repeat. I do not recall seeing this part of "ABOUT…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Grand Ages: Medieval," developed by Gaming Minds Studios and published by Kalypso Media, is a real-time strategy game that ventures into the grandeur of medieval times. Released in 2015, the game attempts to combine city-building, trade, and warfare elements to create an expansive empire-building experience. Here's a review of "Grand Ages: Medieval": Visual Presentation (3/5): The game's visuals are serviceable but fall short of delivering a truly immersive experience. While the landscapes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Equivalent to a Broken mix of Patrician and Civilisation, and my preference is any of the other two rather than this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so bad compared to PR3 or Patrician or Rise of Venice. Towns look the same and evrrything is generic. This game is without any dedication or love.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the worst games ever made. some reasons as to why: 1- first of all, the game's title is very misleading; one would think the game is a successor to 'Grand Ages Rome', the Roman city state building/management game which was itself a successor to 2 fantastic games. It's not. It plays like a medieval 'port royale' (the colonial trading game), a watered down version of it anyway. 2- Game mechanics: 2.1 you have to pay people to trade with them! you need to construct roads to send…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →- Unbalanced and dead community - super repetitive - The UI is useless, - No depth
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Grand Ages: Micromanagement. This doesn’t hold a candle to Settlers or Patrician or A.D. The on-rails quests and requirement to schlepp building materials across the map make it a very tedious game. The bad zoom controls (why won’t it stop when I release the zoom key?), poor performance, and missing resolution controls just make it worse. Sorry devs, better luck next time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game does not have a big community and does get old after a while but it is fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There is no embarking of troops in the game. So as Britannia you can not invade Sweden. Warships are pointless.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't explain why the hell I bought it or why I even played it for straight 30 hrs. Maybe got fooled by the trailer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good game, bad marketing. It's a good game! Slow paced, grand strategy in mind. ask me why lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is an ancient, 11 year old game from Kalypso with a slew of problems that will never be fixed. Taking the promising concept of a cheap, dumbed down ripoff of Total War: Medieval, Kalypso gave up on this 9 years and 6 months ago, despite knowing there's balance problems and other issues with the game. But they're still trying to get paid for this without doing any work on it. The game has some defects around a weak end game, so this isn't one of those games that works well when you build…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only get this when on heavy discount and only if extremely simplistic, tedious and monotonous micro management supply chain economy games without any joy, fun or excitement are really your cup of tea. Best way to describe the experience would be to imagine playing a day one release version of any Paradox Interactive game without its 10+ years of free updates and not owning any of the DLC but that's probably being too generous. Or to put it another way after playing the campaign for a couple…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's one of those hidden gems
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →dope ass way in-depth trade system. very high learning curve. mostly economic competition rts with a pause button. you can and eventually need military however that is late game IMO. played this for 3 weeks straight while laid up with a back injury
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game, endless hours of fun, maybe not for everyone, but i love it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FUN till your money go down, 100 hours of trying to get my money out of negative and not being able to use my troops, this games pretty ♥♥♥♥ i have tried every thing besides uninstalling, Traders and to glitchy and wont do what you want on manual idk i am getting pretty mad and frustrated, TBH it is a fun game if you understand it i guess but i have watched the developers and like 30 you tube videos and everything they say don't work, so unfortunate i am done.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There isnt rly much to do. Gets broing very quickly. Waste of time and money!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is buggy, unbalanced, and unfinished. Don't expect any fixes as the dev's last update was under 2 months after release.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was really looking forward to this game. Seemed like patrician/port royale but with more possibilities of building your own resource producing buildings, and with the same awesome trading. But it fell totally flat and is so boring and lacks depth.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great medieval economy, city-builder and war simulator!
