Frontlines™: Fuel of War™
Developer Kaos Studios
Frontlines: Fuel of War is a first-person shooter video game developed by Kaos Studios and released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 in February 2008. It was also in development for the PlayStation 3, although THQ canceled this version in January 2008, seemingly as a result of problems with developing for the console. Frontlines includes a multiplayer mode as well as a single-player campaign that uses the… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game foreshadows climate/resource conflict, with the usage of modern tech and drones. The campaign is great fun. It's a little depressing to see this play out realistically in Ukraine this year with the proxy war Russia has started; a land grab of resources. I wonder if that will also end in a march on Moscow, like this game does, whilst China rabidly froths at its borders to destroy other people and countries. I like that the story in Frontlines is about a reporter following the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even tho it says ive played for ~10 hours. I played this game my whole Childhood when growing up. If there was a "time played" section on this game like there is here on steam, it would be, for me playing this game, in the 10,000s for hours played. Really, ive played this game so much on the Xbox 360 I replayed the campaign like 600 times and still continue to play it. Yes it's a short campaign and not the most creative, but the game itself is really funny with the AI ragdoll death animations…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played countless hours outside of steam, back when the game first came out. This game was my life for more than a year. What a nostalgia trip for me it is. A portal to simplier times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frontlines: Fuel of War Positives: + Very realistic and interesting storyline + Cutscenes + Quite big and open maps + You are part of a squad + Not so linear + Good sounds and music + Acceptable graphics + Some cool gadgets and vehicles to use + Good checkpoint system + Ok length + 2 Bonus levels (quite challenging) Negatives: - Mission objectives are more or less the same and have a more multiplayer focus - The textures are not the best close up - Low FOV - Mouse acceleration and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the nearest future, wars for fuel and oil refineries
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frontlines: Fuel of War is a large-scale warfare FPS much like Battlefield’s multiplayer but in a singeplayer setting. The short campaign revolves around the 125th Strike Division nicknamed "The Stray Dogs" fighting against the evil Red Star offensive in the Oil Wars. The gameplay is straightforward: Shoot the bad guys, capture and destroy objectives. It trades the lone-hero narrative for an interesting feature: When you die, you simply redeploy as another soldier, keeping the momentum of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want an old-school Battlefield solo campaign without the obligatory annoying EA account, this is your best alternative. Frontlines is the standard seventh-gen FPS type of game you've already played a hundred times. After you beat this, you'll never come back. Multiplayer is dead, and there's nothing to the singleplayer campaign. Though this at least runs flawlessly on PC unlike most other titles.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an older game but an excellent game. It was the first battlefield type game to come out with destructible environments, drones, moving battlefield lines, etc. It was ahead of it's time. And for some reason it just didn't do well. But its an amazing game. After this game came out Battlefield Bad Company came out with all of the features this game had.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frontlines: Fuel of War feels like Battlefield. On each mission, you can choose between different classes and you need to conquer several bases. There is a big con though. When you run the game for the first time, many people are met by an error message that goes along the lines as: ageia physx error. can't run the game. In order to run the game, you need to install an old nvidia legacy physx driver. Still, performance was never perfect, but it got significantly better when I disabled "Maximize…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bought this game to relive my childhood, spend two sittings and two cups of tea to finish the entire game because i remember everything like the back of my neck (i have no idea what i am talking about) not the best game in terms of gameplay and mechanics, but has an amazing soundtrack and sound design (i love you whoever made the sounds for both the M1B and blackbear's gun + autoloader) and is the only game i know that has a stage where you fight tanks under an ongoing nuclear strike 5/10…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →too good a game for this time, it’s a pity that they will never make a sequel, it was such a thrill, thanks to the developers for making my childhood :(
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →interesting story plot, fun gameplay. A game that awakened my childhood nostalgia!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was an awesome game when it came out. Combining FPS with drones and vehicles in a very fast paced game. I spent countless hours in it. I really wish someone comes out with Frontlines II
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It actually isn't bad. Even back when this was released, you know it wouldn't have avoided the bargain bin for too long. Go into it with that mindset. You're in Blockbuster, kind of broke, it's 4.99... from that starting point, it's fun. It does have a lot of issues. It's a sort of open-world adjacent thing where you're dumped in a large open level with the option to tackle objectives in any order, but it leaves the levels all feeling like MP maps with bots... which I guess they basically…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty odd and fun military shooter- a bit too on the nose politically especially now in 2025 - The mission structure is open and long- something that is sorely missing in today's military shooters- Not a bad way to spend $2.00
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Literally predicted ww3
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got it for nostalgia and for it being from 2008 I did not remember it being surprisingly great to handle this many years later.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun solid game. Loved it when it first came out and still find it fun. Fighting in a tank as you battle through a nuclear detonation was definitely the unique aspect of the game. Still play it and plan on playing with the difficulty ramped up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game hasn't stood the test of time. Game is short, the locations are small, it takes 3-4 hours to complete walkthrough Online doesn't work The last 3 levels are torture at the last difficulty level, where you are killed either sniper or grenade launcher in windows or buildings Dump AI Enemies always see only you and only shoot at you, spawn out of air in one place Your bots are invulnerable but there is no point, Forget about bots, you must kill all enemies yourself No weapon impact,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frontlines: Fuel of War is a large-scale military first-person shooter developed by Kaos Studios and published by THQ. Released during a period crowded with modern warfare shooters, the game sought to separate itself from competitors through its ambitious depiction of a near-future global conflict driven by dwindling energy resources. Rather than focusing solely on traditional military rivalries, the game imagines a world where oil shortages, economic instability, and environmental decline have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid game....solid story with the backdrop being 'energy crisis' and it works well here, good gun play ,good mix of gadgets you control ( gives you agency ) the FX in Weapons sound etc is good, great mix of on foot and in tanks ,from memory you get to blow ♥♥♥♥ up in an attack helo...i first picked this game up on retail disc 2010 or so ....for reasons i bought the digi copy,,,,overall my experience 'bloody fantastic! ...highly recommended.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i played on the hardest difficulty and i've quite enjoyed what the game has to offer. the overall game design is quite solid with no real complaints in how the weapons work, it even has a weapon selection which does come in handy, there are also quite a few ways to complete the objectives within levels, its a semi-linear experience in that way, and the game describes itself as open world as well. despite playing on the hardest difficulty and considering this game is about a war of resources i…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Since apparently the multiplayer is shut down you would only be considering buying this for the campaign and I'm here to tell you DON'T. I bought this for $5 for the nostalgia and even that couldn't save the campaign experience. The story is about as generic as a military shooter could possibly get. The writing is pretty bad, the gun play has not aged well, the missions are super cliche and boring, enemies are braindead, your allies are braindead, terrible enemy spawns sometimes up your ass,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A few hours of entertainment revolving around a war with Russia/China, which still has some truthfulness to the current world of politics. Obviously, comparing it to the standards of 2022 is idiotic, so I won't. Played it as a kid, bought for nostalgia even though I still have the physical copy in my closet. For a game from 2008, it's not bad. The spread on weapons is pretty stupid, but I got 4 hours of shooting and running around out of it. The theme was definitely something that gave…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Entertaining, action-packed campaign that pits Western forces against a Russian/Chinese army. The story objectives play out exactly like a Battlefield game such as holding a capture point or planting C4 on a missile launcher but the environments are varied enough to keep things interesting. The Russian and Chinese enemies actually speak in their own languages instead of broken English, so props to the devs for not taking a shortcut. The weakest part of the game is the lack of a proper ADS. Most…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty solid shooter, all things considered. The enemies are all quite spongy and the weapon accuracy is probably the worst I’ve experienced in any game I’ve ever played, but it has some vast and incredibly dense levels which allow for a ton of pathfinding options, excellent audio design, and smooth gameplay. The multiplayer servers have long since shut down, but as is the case with most multiplayer shooters, there’s a community workaround with a few servers for those who are truly dedicated.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have so many good memories of the multiplayer is was BF3 before BF3. I'm saddened by the shutdown of the multiplayer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After finally getting this game to work and fixing that Agea physics engine issue, you actually have a fun shooter. all be it a little dated by today's standard but where it lacks in some areas it definitely makes up in others.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: You usually have AI teammates that actually get kills and follow you, so you're not just a 1-man army. Cons: Environment is not really destructible. No more than most other FPSs. Time to kill is low and enemy accuracy is high, so you can die in what feels like 2 shots. Which is frustrating when your guy can't aim a gun for his life. No V-sync setting. I couldn't get a controller to work. I finished in 5.6 hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Info: if you have issues opening the game check the community guides, you're most likely missing a legacy nvidia driver. There is also a guide to get multiplayer to work. Review: This is such a great game, it was so far ahead of it's time. I would really like to see these guys attempt at a new battlefield like game. It's absolutly crazy how this game has a better take on future wars than battlefield 2042, (though story is only in 2024, which is soon) It still has more awesome tech/gadget and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That game was an interesting Battlefield like. It has a solo mode with a story. This campaigne is rapidly completed since it's purposed is to introduce the special items, weapon types, features, and the overall background. Missions are incredibly repetitive and the guns are wildly inaccurate. The main experience is the multiplayer and it is dead. T he main menu browser does not work anymore. There's a guide on steam explaining how to join a server in this game, but there are only 3 servers…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay FPS game in which you fight alongside a squad and utilize a bunch of RC equipment. Pros: +Nice SFX +Gritty visuals +Slower paced than Call of Duty +RC gear +Land vehicles Cons: -Inaccurate guns -Terrible helicopter controls -Short main campaign(does have two nice bonus levels)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty fun shooter that isn't Call of Duty or Battlefield, MP was really fun back in the day, don't think it's active anymore but you can still play a couple of maps with bot support.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Note: There's no multiplayer for the game (as clearly stated on the Steam page). If you're looking for a classic Battlefield style FPS game with decent graphics and somewhat destructible environments, this may be for you. The campaign missions are essentially multiplayer levels with some structure but as the game goes on they actually do a pretty decent job of trying to make them unique from each other and not simply fall into the trap of "mp map with bots". Bought for 5 bucks on sale and can…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have nostalgia for this game, its still a solid game and a good shooter and still looks great for its age... Give it a try if your looking a fun battlefield like game with a interesting and fun campaign.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bit old style, but brings back good memories. Can't recommend it with nowadays expectations, on the other hand for it's time was a fun game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game when it first came out. I loved it and the online as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love the crap out of this game, its a bloody classic
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Actually it isnt THAT bad. Multiplayer Servers are offline. The Singleplayer Campaign is objective multiplayer with AI. Around that is wrapped a very simple story. Just make sure to install "NVIDIA PHYSX LEGACY SYSTEM SOFTWARE 9.12.1031", otherwise the game wont start
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I knew that KAOS made Homefront 2011, but what I didn't know was that they made something else before it, and I found out that Frontlines Fuel of War is that game. I decided to give it a shot and was honestly pretty surprised by what a studio other than DICE and EA could deliver back when this game came out. Yeah, this game takes huge inspiration from Battlefield and it even had its own Multiplayer, but that died along with the studio. So now you can only play it over LAN or if it's even…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Brings back old memories. But yeah game is too damn short. Would recommend on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Multiplayer doesn't work but the single player campaign still works. Its not a bad game, sorta your generic battlefield type shooter. The two neat elements are drone combat being a thing in this game and the game being primarily around shifting frontlines. Both of which were neat back in 2008 when this game came out....not really anything new or unique now. I played the whole game without sound because I didn't want to wear headphones and there's no subtitles....sooooo don't ask me what the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frontlines: Fuel of War, conceived and developed by the legendary team behind a highly ambitious mod for the original Battlefield:1942 at the time, is set in a dystopian world in the distant year 2024, in the midst of a global energy crisis. Following the usual generic end-time scenario, the Western world, which is morally beyond reproach, goes up against the subhumans from the Eastern Bloc under the natural leadership of the USA. The game contains some political commentary, albeit few, in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →yeah this game is good :) nostalgia hits different
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A six hour long campaign that is mediocre with no real take away moments that would bring you back for more. It isn't terrible but nothing to write home about. This was an average arcade shooter when it released and time has not been kind to it. The gameplay itself is non-linear open level, like Kaos' other title Homefront. Visually it could hold it's own with a 2012 title, good for 2008, but a little rough for 2021. This title was on the cusp of ADS being fully implemented in FPS games. So…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The reason I recommend this game is for two reasons. 1) I got this on sale, less than $5 dollars. 2) The game isn't as bad as people say, however there is no longer an online mode keep that in mind. The game had the potential to be something special, it borrowed elements of similar FPS shooters at the time. i swear you'll feel like your playing a mash up of COD, Battlefield, Ghost recon (soldiers outfits and eye wear) Hell, even the Sargent looks like a poor man's version of Marcus Fenix. If…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is good, really good and I love the result that Kaos Studios achieved with gunplay, gameplay and Unreal Engine 3.5 graphics. But, for now it's have no reason to be purchased, because the online is dead, level design is weakest side of game, story is boring and full of cleche. Wait for 85% discount and get pleasant with the well made FPS game experience. It's really funny to operate with drones and it's the good idea to use these in the multiplayer game. Sadly there's no an official…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Recommended. A concise near-future oil-war shooter with a front-line system that literally redraws the map as objectives are captured, casting the player as just a grunt in a 2024 last-oil-war documentary framing. Tanks, a recon drone, an RC rocket helicopter, airstrikes, sentry guns and a self-lethal railgun carry the mechanical highlights, and the music is unexpectedly good. The redeployment life system keeps the punishing health asymmetry fair, and seven missions across Turkmenistan,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game used to have a very fun multiplayer mode with massive battles on large scale maps, futuristic equipment, ground and air vehicles. I remember having the chance to try it out in 2008 through a PC Gamer magazine disk which had a demo that included the whole multiplayer mode. It took a while for my 12 year old self to get used to the massive recoil of the guns but eventually I had a lot of fun. Unfortunately the game servers are shut down and the campaign doesn't offer enough to be the…
