negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy IV (3D Remake) takes one of the defining adventures of the classic Japanese role-playing era and rebuilds it around fully three-dimensional characters, voiced story sequences, revised combat balance, and additional customization. The result is not merely the original game with improved graphics, but a distinct interpretation that retains the central story and traditional RPG structure while introducing systems that can make the journey considerably more demanding. Developed by…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A high-difficulty, 3D reimagining that trades visual polish for the most tactically rewarding version of Cecil's journey. What is it? This is a 3D remake of Final Fantasy IV ported from the Nintendo DS. It intends to be the "Expert Edition" of the classic story, replacing 2D sprites with cinematic voice-acted cutscenes and a redesigned battle system that prioritizes strategy over grinding. Who is it for? Tactical Strategists: Players who want to treat JRPG bosses like complex puzzles that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The second best RPG after Crono trigger, yes this version DS /3d remake on hard mode is the only way to play the game at its full potential.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would buy expensive PC to play games that would run on a calculator again! 10/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great Final Fantasy game, and surprisingly challenging at times. Has the most epic boss battle music ever. (If the intro has choppy sound, go to your audio settings and disable spatial sound or audio enhancements. It should be fixed immediately)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Local edgelord Cecil and his dragon therian best friend Kain got tricked by a false king into genociding a village of furry stand users. Cecil then adopts one of them, and goes on a roadtrip of self-discovery, takes HRT, and becomes a femboy. He then join forces with his friends, challenges his brother, and then saves the world. A+ 10/10 roleplay experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A story about a man who mucks his life up after blowing up a little girls village, With Character arcs and retribution through life lessons it's a fascinating tale of light and dark staring Patric Donahue and Stanley Heubric, It's no Brazilian drug Lord 3 but it's still a fine game, three and a half stars.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i didn't realize my pc is weaker than a ds
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first real RPG I played as a kid. My Aunt gave it to me because she was big into games and gaming. I played this game and beaten it a dozen times. It reminds me of her and the joy she brought to my life. This makes the game better in so many ways. I hope everyone has a game like this in there memories.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a mostly-faithful remake of FF4 for the DS. However, as anyone who played that version knows it had some multiplayer stuff connected to a new summon for Rydia called Whyt. Whyt was a cool, customizable character who gained stats based on the performance of a bunch of touch-screen minigames and you had to do some multiplayer stuff to get everything out of the game. That has all been removed and replaced with a sidequest to go around talking to NPCs. It's an unfortunate cut, but I get…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buyer beware. In short, this is a fine game, but this release is horribly outdated and a complete mess. If you have the DS version, play that instead. If you haven't played FFIV at all (or any other FF game for that matter), please just play the 2D version first. The Pixel-Remaster is fine. The good: This is an excellent title. It serves as a much more challenging version of a classic title, with some exclusive content to spice up the deal. I must stress that this game is HARD,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Having to mod just so the games combat can run higher than 15fps is just unacceptable. Theres no reason this could not have been done when porting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a decent FF game, i could see it having some potential with a full remake like FF7 received. But only after FF10, 6, 8 and 9 get their remakes. It is old, it is annoying, it can be unfair, but the plot is alright. And when the game becomes unfair, you can grind a bit and curb stomp the unfairness thrown at your face. I've googled many of the unfair fights, some of them required luck and know-how to counter specific attacks, but overleveling is usually a solution to most situations that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid Remake. Harder than the OG version. You actually have to use buffs and debuffs in battle!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy IV (3D Remake) is a solid modern version of a classic RPG, bringing updated visuals and added depth to an already important game in the series. The story is still one of the strongest parts, following Cecil’s journey with more emotion and character focus than earlier Final Fantasy games. The voice acting and cutscenes help make the story feel more impactful. The gameplay keeps the Active Time Battle system but adds more challenge. Boss fights and mechanics feel tougher, which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game looks like ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I bought FF3 and FF4 3D Remake at the same time and its 100% my fault for not checking both (only looked at 3). After finishing FF3 i started FF4 and everything is bad. The graphics, the UI is glitching, every NPC and character looks like 0 love was put into it. Especially if you compare it with FF3. Its too late for me to refund it. But i hope my review helps other people from avoiding this or at least look twice before buying it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Get the Pixel Remaster instead. This one... adds some new funky useless gimics, but the 'art style' is.. well it looks ugly and does not do the original justice. The story is mostly similar, but the original story beats this one too. And considering price(unless u get it on sale like I did) the pixel remaster version is more true to original and is just a better play. NOT saying this is a bad game, just the original version is a better game hands down.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I genuinely cannot fathom how this game runs so poorly on PC's. Avoid at all costs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing this after playing the original Final Fantasy IV was very enjoyable. I loved the art, scenery, and even voice over sequences and adding augments into this game was a great idea. I did not have to grind as much (except of course finding the missing summons and getting all the Onion gear made it turn into a very long, boring side quest) and I love that there is a hard version of the game. I am looking forward to replaying it on hard since I was able to get everything in the normal…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite version of FF4 I've played 4 versions of this game (PS1 / DS / GBA / PR) and I like this one best with the GBA a close second. Normally I prefer the pixel remaster versions but the PR version of this game is faceroll easy. This version has a good difficulty mix and I like the unique added content (e.g. the Augment System and Map Unlockables). The Augment System grants replayability to a game that originally had none. A guide is pretty much required though or you'll miss most of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy IV follows Cecil, a dark knight who turns against the kingdom of Baron after questioning the orders he has been carrying out. His journey brings together a changing party of allies as they fight to stop Golbez from gathering the elemental crystals. The 3D Remake retells the story with voice acting, cinematic scenes, an Active Time Battle system, and Augments that let characters learn additional abilities. Pros ✔️ The party feels important to the story - Most party members have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is awesome, but the 15fps lock on the battles makes everything feels too slow, specially when the rest of the game is an acceptable 30fps. Going to play the pixel remaster instead.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →More of a dungeon-crawler than later Final Fantasy games. Still worth it, but challenging
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love that they went back to the absolute classic that is FFIV with a more PSX gen mentality. This is the definitive version of the game for me, and I grew up loving the original. And thank the gods the Steam version turned down the insane difficulty of some of the fights in the DS original.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A great remake of the original classic. My favorite Final Fantasy game with unforgettable characters and an emotional storyline. I can't recommend experiencing Final Fantasy 4 enough!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Needs the Battle FPS fix by Greger in the Steam Guides to make the combat bearable, otherwise it looks jittery and too slow. The initial premise and roughly the first 3rd of the story was very intriguing since classes were now tied to actual characters but I strongly disliked the latter half about Cecil's backstory. Hard mode was fun at least as it provided a challenge outside of mindless grinding (which you still need to do).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An interesting version of FF4 with ds graphics which don't look bad. Nicely done voice acting and some interesting extra stuff. But the weird difficulty spike that comes from this version can be annoying at the worst of times. But it isn't too bad. I could recommend this definitely, still a fun time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a really bad port. The graphics and sounds are not improved from the original and there are severe framerate stutters that can last for several seconds which seem to occur for no reason.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Apparently I never reviewed this one. Thought I had but ah well, no time like the present. Final Fantasy IV 3D is a very mixed bag. It started out as a DS remaster and quickly gained a reputation as being positively brutal in difficulty. There are dedicated guides to how you should level up your team so that you can even beat Xeromus at the end. The augment system at first glance seems like a good addition that would allow you to really customize your team to play how you want to play but the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This version is very slow to play through due to slow combat without fast forward so get the pixel remaster if that doesn't interest you, but it has a hard mode for those interested and its cute.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The graphics are worse than the original 2d spirits. Cecil starts off as a weak coward doubting himself and the king instead of a loyal solider who wants to justify his nation and his king. Kain started out as someone who has goals to undermine Cecil and a working relationship but Cain(original) he seemed like a best friend who possibly had a hidden agenda. ♥♥♥♥ the After Years(main reason I got this version), stick with the Pixel Remaster. I'm dropping this game before I really start it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I went into this riding the High of Final Fantasy 3 (3D Remake) and Final Fantasy 2 (4) is where I got my start in this franchise. With Cecil, Kain, Rosa and crew. I wasn't disappointed. Once again I have to say this easily beats out the Pixel Remaster with its enhanced graphics, new story beats and the augment system which is woefully absent in the Pixel Remasters. It has new gameplay features, enhanced graphics, and even voice acting in certain scenes which is a little jarring, I wasn't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FF4 is a great, if dated game and this 3D remake is a fine way to experience it. I like this version but whatever you do, don't try to 100% it. The game is about 40 hours long, the other 70 hours is grinding 0.4 - 0.8% drops off specific enemies.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got Final Fantasy 2 (Final Fantasy 4) along with a Super Nintendo for Christmas in 1991 and I have loved this game since, this 3D remake is hard as nails but I wouldn't have it any other way I fully recommend this version of Final Fantasy 4, it a great game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i hated this FF. the lack of anything relating to an RPG besides being able to level up and what equipment i can use everything else come as part of the story which honestly made me rush through this game as fast as i could.. no options to pick any skill or magic as its all learned by set non-customizable characters which by the way most die off making all the leveling and and even equipment a waist..wanna build a party? ♥♥♥♥ that ♥♥♥♥ you'll get a limited number of party members to choose from…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great version of the game with great newgame+
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the worst and most obnoxious FF game I've played. Augment system is a hassle, the party is a revolving door of people you never really give a ♥♥♥♥ about other than a select few (Rydia, who's missing for a large part of the game).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite simply, one of the best ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ games of all time. Tight story, engaging battle mechanics, and relatively quick to get through if you don't care about min-maxing everything.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sylph cave is annoying as ♥♥♥♥. MULTIPLE enemies casting SLEEP ALL on your entire party while the battle chugs along at 15 fps is just pure insanity Missable content is bad game design. bestiary, items, all of it. bad game design. Forcing players to replay the game multiple times is bad game design for a story based game. the story is also trash and shallow. it attempts to make you have feelings for these characters but some of them have 5 minutes of screen time. the story also just…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my personal opinion this remains the definitive version of FFIV. Gameplay changes and additions as well as voice-acted cutscenes make this a fresh experience, while still remaining mostly faithful to the original game's story and gameplay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FFIV has one of the most enduring stories in the entire franchise. In my personal opinion, it ranks up there with VI, VII, IX and X, and as unforgettable and masterfully told. This 3D port of the DS remake is not perfect. I think some of the elements brought over from its phone releases don't look good here, but it's also understandable why the corresponding DS components couldn't translate either. I think with Fan Mods, this title could eventually shine like FFIX does with the Memoria…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A worthy remake of one of first super-famicom entry of Final Fantasy. This version's cutscene, music and graphics are so charming, while retaining the classic gameplay and story. I finished it on hard mode, definietly challening, but not ridculous. Highly worth your time. The new end credit song also hits so hard and makes it feel so satisfying.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an amazing game. My only real complaints is the cutscenes before bosses being mandatory to watch every time you die and some of the "hard" enemies are just RNG on if it decides to spam the same raid wide that deals 90% of your parties health two times back to back. Other than that the story and gameplay are amazing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is bugged out. Abandonware. Glitchy. Constant sound glitches. Save corruptions. CTDs. Dead game. Zombie Steam listing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Evry time 1st half fine, 2nd half poopman come i
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Esse é o port mais porco que eu já vi, a UI é horrível, o jogo não tem opção de alterar a linguagem ou a dublagem, a tradução em PT-BR é uma abominação (e você não pode trocar).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game on hard mode! Loved it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bad port aside this version doesn't hold up. Battles feel slow and drag on a bit. The voice acting doesn't really sell the story and the chibi-ish artstyle is not good fit for this entry imo. The difficulty scaling can get a little obnoxious but not impossible if you're wiling to devote more hours into grinding or finding helpful weapons or gear by exploring all corners of the maps. Over time I grew weary of the reptition due to the slower battles and these days, I appreciate more quality of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy IV (3D Remake) is a classic JRPG story presented with a more cinematic, fully 3D style, turning a foundational entry in the series into something closer to a playable drama. You follow Cecil, a dark knight forced to confront what he’s done in service of his kingdom, and the game quickly expands into a globe-spanning quest with crystals, airships, betrayals, and cosmic stakes. Even today, the pacing feels surprisingly brisk, with major plot turns arriving often and pushing you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →STILL my favorite Final Fantast story since i first got my hands on it renting from blockbuster when it first came out decades ago as a kid! It is literally bringing me to tears to see the story in 3D still my personal favorite Final Fantasy period along with 6 and 9 followed by 1 and 7, this is definitely a rare case of a game remake being done right!OK well for the most part, the jacked up the balance on the enemies there are some noticable spikes in difficulty that shouldn't exist after so…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've been playing jrpgs sice early 2000's and ff4 has one of the most childish story ive ever seen. This game is not for adults, more like a cheap cartoon network project.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is not an issue with the game itself but rather the Steam port of it. This very well might be the slowest version of the game Final Fantasy 4. Even with the "battle speed" at it's fastest, combat is so slow that I've just resorted to running. Even running is slow. I've had times where during Preemptive strikes, all enemies got at least one hit off before my team could finally run. I REALLY wish Auto Battle sped up the fights like it did in Final Fantasy 3's Steam port.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story telling doesn't age well, but the characters and story are timeless. Great classic JRPG
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A wonderful dose of nostalgia. The 3D remake of Final Fantasy IV manages to stay faithful to the original in terms of story and gameplay, but with a few tweaks that make it more challenging (though still a bit grindy at times). The graphics are generally fine and give it a fresh look, but they do lose a bit of the old charm — there’s something about the classic sprites that just hits differently. Still, it’s absolutely worth playing, even if you’ve already finished FF4 in the past.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a terribly visual version of this game holy smokes. Couldn't bring myself to play it after the first 15 minutes or so. It looks awful and super zoomed in. A shame as the game itself is good, but this version is just atrociously done. I have other copies of this game and started a run with the Pixel Remaster version. Get that version. Don't get this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In order to play on steam deck you'll need to adjust the track pad to function as a mouse so you can click Play on the first menu screen. After that I haven't had any problems so far. I loved this game on DS. It's great to play on a modern handheld with a larger screen. The game had a ton of random battles but the story is worth it in my opinion.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Updated December 2025 review: Ahh, I went for the Pink Tail, but after 496 sirens and obtaining 6 Rainbow Puddings, I still don't have it. I'm giving up for another few years. September 2025 original review: I don't recommend this being someone's first Final Fantasy game, but it is a very good game. Try FF 5, 6, 7, or 10 first. FF 9 and 4 feel the same to me. FF4 remake feels a bit easier to get through compared to the original pixel art one. (Not sure about pixel remaster). If…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall I enjoyed playing this game, maybe because I haven't played one of these in a while. I don't regret playing, but if I had to do it again with the knowledge of what it's like, I'd probably skip it. - Story is ok - seems similar to the last game and mostly not bad, but sometimes the characters act like children and some parts feel almost like fan-fiction. Specifically the relationships between the characters and some parts of the story are a bit abrupt. But parts of the ending and…
