Final Fantasy III is a 1990 role-playing video game developed and published by Square for the Family Computer. 60 of 174 · most liked firstI recently finished the Pixel Remaster, and I have to say for veteran JRPG players, this 3d version is the definitively better option. The pixel remaster reverts a lot of excellent gameplay changes that were added with this version. In particular, the class balance in the pixel remaster is mostly scuffed, as it reverts back to the original Famicom game's job balance where later game classes completely invalidate previous ones. Knight is better than Warrior, Ninja is better than Knight... and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why put any amount of time into this game? Why spend 41 hours grinding for the Jack of All Trades achievement? Because I have an addiction to RPGs and trophys. This isn't a review it's a plea for help.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy III's job system is genuinely one of the most satisfying party customization experiences in the classic era of the franchise, and this 3D remake adds real personality to the protagonists that the original Famicom version completely lacked. That said, I can't in good conscience recommend this port without a serious warning: the save-wiping bug is real, it happened to me, and losing hours of progress to a glitch that Square Enix has never patched is infuriating in a game that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried to give this another go recently. no luck. Broken Audio on Windows 11. Vista compat + 48khz\16-bit stereo mode force no longer works. Some audio tracks will not play and Volume levels for the other tracks are all over the place with GAIN being out of control causing alot of the audio to screech. Square doesn't fix just like their other PC ports they forget about them and let them break as they age, you should avoid the game. Audio It's broke now and the games gfx run at 30fps anyway. Oh…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd recommend the Pixel Remaster instead. The pros of this version are that it's easier to get onion gear, due to the new cavern that contains just dragons (superboss aside). The cons are the ridiculously increased difficulty, tough enemies and bosses having two or more actions per turn, the necessity of hardcore grinding, and the molasses speed of the game overall. A cutesy coat of paint over a flawed classic does nothing to fix the inherent flaws in the original game, especially when the…

Recently, when i decided id try to play through all the Final Fantasy games, i was faced with the choice of whether to play the 3-D remake or the 2-D Pixel remaster version of FF3. I had just played through the first 2 games (PR version) so it took me a minute to choose since i really didn't want to purchase or play through them twice. In the end i decided that the 3d version must be the superior version of the game based on which one "LOOKED" better. I was wrong and ill tell you why.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FF3 is an amazing game. Don't play this version under any circumstance. This game has the most jank save system for some reason, you can save at any time on the world map, but when you're actually in a dungeon or where ever, you are unable to save at all. If you full quit the game, the game will make a quick save for you that you are able to load 1 time. What this means is say you are 2+ hours deep into a dungeon, you have no way to save unless you go all the way back and save on the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Steam Deck performance review for Final Fantasy 3D Remake. This game is listed as 'playable' but there were some problems. Here is my steam deck performance review after spending +60 hours grinding for all the achievements. The first 30 hours or so was strictly on the steam deck and that was how long it took me to complete the game. The other +30 hours was grinding and achievement clean up on the PC. This was strictly a steam deck PERFORMANCE review. If you want a full review of the game,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The 3D remake of Final Fantasy 3 is a great, challenging, visually stunning (for the Nintendo DS) video game that actually outright DOES NOT BOOT UP on Steam if your system is modern enough. If you can somehow find/afford the original DS cartridge, definitely play that version (or take to the high seas). But don't waste your money on the Steam port unless you have a surefire way to make the executable actually turn on in the first place. If you're into older, moderately stricter RPGs, and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I highly recommend no one buys this version of the game. My save data gets nuked every single time I try to play. Not worth the time or effort to keep playing. The only way to fix this is to completely turn off cloud sync and look after your save data like the good ol' days. Extremely annoying and unacceptable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I went into this game expecting it to be pretty bad based on what I’d heard, but honestly, it wasn’t that terrible. That being said, unless you’re a die-hard Final Fantasy fan, I’d highly recommend going for the Pixel Remaster instead of this version. The grind here is much heavier, and aside from some minor story and mechanic differences, you’re not missing much. I did enjoy seeing the world brought to life with the 3D models, but overall, this version feels like a downgrade compared to the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy III (3D Remake) is a turn-based JRPG built around the Warriors of Light, elemental crystals, and the job system that lets your party change classes throughout the adventure. This version gives the four playable characters names, designs, and more personality than the original release, while keeping the core structure of exploring towns and dungeons, unlocking jobs, and building a party that can handle whatever the next area throws at you. Pros ✔️ The playable characters have more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy 3 is the weird-headed stepchild I didn't play until much-much later in life because my journey started with Final Fantasy 4, or as we all know it as in the west, Final Fantasy 2. I replayed it first as a Pixel Remaster and I have to say... I prefer this version of it. I'm aware that this opinion is one that could get me pelted with stones and detritus but this particular version with its enhanced 3d graphics and a more vibrant and open world (seemingly) was a much better…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy III (3D Remake) represents a fascinating chapter in classic Japanese role-playing game design, combining the foundations of an early Final Fantasy adventure with the personality and presentation of its later three-dimensional remake. Developed and published by Square Enix, it preserves the traditional structure of exploring towns and dungeons, fighting turn-based battles, collecting equipment, learning magic, and strengthening a party of heroes. It is unapologetically…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Could not launch this game, no matter what I tried. Kept getting repeated errors about missing files, amongst other things. Reinstalled and "verified" with Steam tool multiple times, but still no luck. I have been told this isn't even the original 3D version that was on the DS. It's a subpar port, of the mobile version. The game was excellent on DS, so if you really want to enjoy it as intended, go find a physical copy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i have no opinion on the game because i can't play it because it deletes save data.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Currently a music/sound effect bug that will pretty much ruin the immersion of the game. Can't be resolved on Windows 11 currently. If you want to experience FFIII, go get the Pixel Remaster instead of this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely adorable game, but an equally rough experience. This would be a huge MIXED Review if Steam had that. Overall, it's kinda nice so I'll hesitantly give it a thumbs up. Quick Play doesn't function in a helpful way that you might be used to from more recent ports/remasters and I can tell that this is one of the first ever executions of the "Auto-Combat" feature, because it is designed atrociously. Even with attempts to make use of it, the grinding can feel glacially slow. I really…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT CROSS-PLAY!! Cloud saving will erase your game. I just lost about 30 hours of gameplay after playing on my Steamdeck and then trying to play on PC. You can find posts online about the same problem and there seems to be no solution. You just lose your data.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pretty good! I prefer these graphics over the Pixel Remasters. They add more charm to the game and some more story, too. Everything about the game is good. Great music, fun jobs, decent enough story, a sense of direction on where to go instead of wandering around aimlessly like the first 2 games mostly were. Squeenix added some QoL features that weren't there when the game first released on Steam (only added in 2020) like an auto battle/speed up system that makes grinding A LOT less tedious…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →6/10 - The 3DS style doesn't work too well on PC, and the game feels clunky overall. While I love job systems, this is one of the worst implementations in the series, in my opinion. Also - prepare for one of the worst achievements in history. "Get all jobs to level 99 for all characters". This menas the following: get into an easy battle in the first area, defend 4-6 times (depending on the job), repeat for all four characters, then defeat the enemies and win the battle, gain a job level,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Screen stretching across multiple monitors in borderless, audio is completely muffled, game capped at 30fps but battles feel 15fps. Just play the FF3 pixel remaster instead you're missing nothing with this 3D port.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is one of the bests and a personal fav but on steam deck my save deleated itself after death. thats not a mechanic
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very charming game, honest to the original port on the DS from what I remember. I feel like there's a bit more QoL features though, but could be wrong. I like the way the auto battle works, which I don't recall on the DS port, but it is godlike! It bases your auto action on the previously selected ones by the user. Makes grinding a breeze. The game itself offers what you want from an epic RPG. Never played the original 2D game, but this fits the bill from what you want in an RPG experience.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the first Final fantasy that released in the US remade in 3d.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if i was asked to describe this game on a small sentence, it will be "what FFI wanted to be". the combat is really satisfactory, the job system is probably its biggest virtue, letting everyone play their own way the same exact game. yeah, it has a bit of necessary grinding at the final dungeon, some bosses are a bit unfair, and every time you enter a dungeon you're playing scared because if you get killed, you lose all the dungeon progress, you cannot save once you're inside of them.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love FF3 as a game. It provides a balanced challenge which is something no other Final Fantasy game really does. Personally I'd recommend the Pixel Remaster over the 3D Remake... Especially if you want something more closer to the original game. The 3D remake features number of changes to gameplay, story and visuals. For example 3D remake replaces the warriors of light with proper characters and the job system has been reworked. (Just a note that the Pixel Remaster also features number of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game, level scaling is a little off but i prefer the 3d models over the pixel version.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A strong classic deserves a better version than this Final Fantasy III is a traditional turn based JRPG whose biggest strength for me is still the job system, because it gives the adventure variety and makes party building feel flexible without losing its old school identity. I enjoyed the sense of progression, the simple but effective structure, and the charm of this 3D version. There is a solid game here. The problem is that my overall experience was seriously damaged by technical issues…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The ending of the game has no "continue" function to put you near the final boss to try again or any type of save locations and it's a never ending dungeon that takes a minimum of an hour to complete. This also involves a gauntlet of 6 back to back bosses with your progress being wiped which makes you start the dungeon over again. Oh and bosses and enemies will hit you multiple times instead of once like the original game or pixel remasters. This is throughout the entire game. It's not fun when…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy III (3D Remake) is a solid remake that brings the original game into a more modern style while keeping its classic RPG roots intact. The gameplay still centers around the job system, which is one of the best parts of the game. Being able to switch classes and experiment with different setups adds some variety, even if it doesn’t always feel perfectly balanced. The 3D visuals and updated presentation make the game feel more alive compared to the original. Characters have more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FF3 has always been the most forgettable of the early FF games. I was hoping this "remake" would fix some of core issues with 3 but they're all still here. The sections where you're forced to get the whole party mini or frogged to progress and the boss fights that scream at the player to switch to specific classes for just that one fight are still just as annoying. The second point is even worse in this version which how much they're beefed up some of the boss fights. The story and most…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't go to the mythril mines after getting Arc, worst mistake of my life
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite some archaic game design, this game still holds up if you're looking for a simple and straight-forward JRPG. I often thought as I was playing that I would have enjoyed this remake if I had bought it for DS back when it came out. Just be warned that the final dungeon WILL require some grinding to beat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy is an RPG
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →they should really not have the quick save feature. all it did was lure me into a false sense of security thinking that im actually saving my game. as soon as i met that first skeleton, it kills me in 2 hits, no problem ill just load the....non existent save. im not going to replay all of that over again. ♥♥♥♥ that. i not only rage quitted, I got the game refunded. there shouldnt be a quick save if it doesnt let you use it after you die. so what the hell does it do?? When I hit escape, it says…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its good, basic oldschool Final Fantasy. No bugs to report but im on windows 10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While this game might be great I can't recommend it due to 30fps limit, and the movements sometimes are stuck behind a delay. So those directions you pressed half a minute ago enjoy going there even if you don't want to anymore. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ After completing the story here are some additional thoughts, the movement speed in the over world is dreadful and slows the pace way down. Sometimes following the story gets complicated…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I opted to play this version simply as this was the version I initially attempted to play when I was a kid, and it's a decent remake speaking from not playing the OG tbh, I the stuff they added for the story of characters and such really was little or it was all show at the beginning but I think some of the design decisions definitely made the game slower so I definitely used the auto battle function for alot of the minor battles and grinding which saved me time. it was a decent way to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the Pixel Remaster before this and it kind of ruined my experience with the 3D remake because the battles in the remake are very slow from start to finish. I'd still recommend the game as it does have its merits, as I did enjoy having the added personality for each character and their relationships with others in the world.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't played the Pixel Remasters version of III as I preferred the DS chibis but if you want the QOL of from the PR version there is some good mods to implement it. Overall a very fun adventure that demonstrates alot of the future roots of Final Fantasy. Worth checking out if you like the rest of the series.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Of course, I will recommend it it's Final Fantasy after all. 3D remake is good way to play and it's surprising how much they included in just 500 odd MB, Still playing through.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah it's a great remake. Just 100%'d it. Very fun if you like to grind. I really prefer this version over the original and pixel remaster. I like having the fleshed out story and characters and enhanced graphics. This version is also harder, which is welcome. The steam port has a couple of save file issues you need to avoid. If you flee, make sure you can still change jobs before you overwrite your save, and keep a back up in case you lose power. It never happened to me, but I've read that the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →awesome game glad it wasn't delisted when the remasters came out
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I recommend this game only if you never want to 100% the achievements. I played the entire game again because I missed a single monster that required a certain thing that cannot be used anymore with a clear save. The leveling/guarding grind turned my brain to mush. The process of leveling every job to 99 wasn't satisfying. The story is fine though. A lot of FFXIV references :3c THE MUSIC IS FANTASTIC!! All in all.. 5.5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Final Fantasy III (3D Remake) is a classic JRPG rebuilt with a fully 3D presentation and a more character-driven framing than the original. It keeps the straightforward, adventure-forward spirit of early Final Fantasy while adding cutscenes, a cleaner interface, and a more guided sense of escalation. If you enjoy old-school party-based RPGs but want something more polished than an 8-bit relic, this remake is an accessible way to experience a historically important entry. The story follows four…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do recommend playing this game, graphics are updated and not bad, I wished this was also on PS5. It is a bit hard to find your way to the next objective, but most earlier FF titles are like that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some people complain about the game being unfair for not letting you save file on dungeons or towns, but well, that is the mechanics of this one, you just get to save in the world map before going inside. Asides that, I think this one is probably one of the most enjoyable Final Fantasy games I have played, and I am only missing a couple from the main line. The story is very simple yet entertaining, and the characters remind me of Dungeons & Dragons, being so plain that you just almost feel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →honestly, mainly just the 30 fps, you can tell its a 3ds game so easily as well just by looking at the backgrounds. and there being no quick save/ save function being weak like an old school game where you have to save manually. Ended up running around for an hour to accidentally die then have to completely start over. another thing, when playing pr you can skip a lot of the grind by just using some boosts and turning off encounters, once you get used to that its kind of hard to come back in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its only letting me save one time and if i die i lose all my progress and have to redo everything again from that specific save file so if i make any remote progress and die even once i can kiss all that progress goodbye is my game bugged someone help me?!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if you like terrible badly designed old rpgs you will love this game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The music, as always, when it comes to Final Fantasy. Is one of the best things about the final fantasy games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun remake of a classic. Challenging and a nice short adventure. But grinding to max level is such a pain in the ass and just not worth it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Who ever made the awful save system I hate you you cannot leave the final area so you pretty much have to run back and fight the mini boss to go back to the final dungeon sucks also who ever reads this just get the pixel remaster this is trash I had to look up a walk though to not waste time also had to grind for hours just to get to level 60 to even take out the final boss game is pretty mid at best only play if your trying to beat every Final fantasy game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll update the review more once I've had the chance to play further, but for now a huge thank you to "Justuค็็็็็็็s" for telling me where the audio options are. :D It looks like a fun game, the battle music initially thinks you're deaf. :( To find the audio options do this: while INGAME, press Tab, go to "Config", "Config 2" and you'll see sliders for both the music and sound effects. I couldn't find it because I thought Tab would just bring up the map and it would make more sense to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →YES YES YES YES YES! This is one of the best final fantasies in the series.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a treat to be able to play this version, which was originally released for the Nintendo DS. I must admit I never managed to finish it back in the day. The difficulty curve is very steep, and on many occasions, I had to resort to guides and videos to progress through the story. Generally, when a game gets stuck, I get bored quickly, and unfortunately, I abandoned it for quite a while, just like I did with Final Fantasy II. Everything is wonderful until you reach the Crystal Tower. There,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I do recall the original and was enjoyed then as it is now. Yes, the graphics are much improved but that has to do with people's spolited wanting in today's standards compaired to the old school of rough pixalation. Yes, I am enjoying (again). Submenu ability JOBS were always a pain with lenghtly gathering/battle harvesting involved like all games where this procedure is the norm. Have yet to overcome the main boss IRON GIANT now as was the case back then. Oh well, still a good game where I'd…
