60 of 157 · most liked firstThe game is a quite good technical job: nice graphics, nice voice work, interesting story... It had everything to be perfect, but things were implemented just all wrong. The "puzzles" are simply a matter of finding something well hidden in the scenario and, once you find it, you basically need to move your mouse in the right directions and there goes the "solution". The path you have to take to follow up with the story is made way too explicit by the thoughts of the character. His…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice old-school style point and click. If you like Noir and Detective stories then you can't go wrong. Puzzles can be a bit frustrating since it's easy to simply not notice the one tiny object that let's you solve it. But once you've found all the clickables then the puzzles usually make sense. Two tips: double click when the arrow is red to jump to the next area without having to watch him walk. And Press F1 for highlights (or click the ? button in the inventory.) Edit: It's a two part…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love me some detective games, and this one is... well, worth buying for very, very, very cheap on a Steam sale. If you're as big a fan of detective games as I am, then maybe I added an extra "very" or two, just now. CONS: 1) Voice acting: The voice acting is really bad. Sometimes the quality is, well... ugh. Enough said. 2) Animation: The animation is sub-par, today. I mostly speak of the mouth movements. Everything else is quite par. 3) Lockpicking: You can skip doing it altogether.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a good adventure game. Maybe not one of the best ever made, but certainly one to recommend. They did get the whole noir ambiance in there nicely. And the story's okay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Face Noir is one of the funniest adventure game I played in awhile. The games atmosphere itself is calm and the soundtrack is great.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Let me get to the skinny. I really, REALLY wanted to like Face Noir. A noir detective story wrapped around a point and click adventure? Yes please! But that said this game didn't work for me. The story was decent, the graphics were more than serviceable and level design was nice. But the game was, quite frankly, pretty boring. An excellent adventure game like Still Life pulls you in but Face Noir just didn't work for me. The puzzles were bland, voice acting was hit or miss and it just brought…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Playing Face Noir is like looking back in time to the first golden age of adventures. Face Noir refuses to hold your hand through its puzzles, no matter how insanely obscure some combinations of items might seem. It places names and numbers in the environment, but relies on the players to remember these facts or write them down in order to progress. It includes stealth sections in the same haphazard way that early FPS games handled platforming. For some, this will be a familiar and welcome…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Film Noir inspired Adventure Game. Graphics are simple. Soundtrack is great, Voice Acting is good. The Interface is very primitive (tip: highlighting is F1). Writing is pretty good. Characters are ... interesting: lets just say that Characters are written to be "period appropriate". Puzzles aren't exactly self obvious (I guess that is a good thing) - and could be accused of "pixel hunt". This one is for Adventure Game veterans and Film Noir fans... Me, otherwise avoid.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Many years ago, this game may have been a bit more appealing. Voice acting and artwork are reasonable. The story is "not bad" like a midday movie that you don't bother turning off because it's not offensive. It offers an interesting "join the dots/clues" mechanic, but other than that, it's not what I'd call progress in Adventure Gaming.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Face Noir is a game that I recommend because: - it has a good price - it is a good point & click - it has adventure - the graphics are simple but good - it has a good storyline - it is decent enough for its price - it has trading cards Enjoy!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is epic. Dark places, suitable music, black humor. Perfect atmosphere of a crime novel. The puzzles are logical and not too hard. The story and characters are easy to follow and remember. 14 hours of entertainment. One thing that I must say is that you cannot chose screen resolution, but the game upscale good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →★★☆☆☆ - "Average at best, Id give it a miss" PROS: - In terms of evidence and its storyline its well detailed and interesting - I quite liked the games atmosphere, it is as described, moody and intriguing - The soundtrack is so relaxing, I could fall asleep to it - Its not entirely straightforward allowing for a challenge not all point & clicks provide CONS: - It looks drab and well below an acceptable standard - The voice acting is dreadful - I didn't find it 'funny' instead I thought the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If there was a sequel to this game, I would leave a positive comment on this game. However, although this game was released in 2013, there is still no news about a sequel. Game ends at %30 or something like that. Maybe even less than that. I felt like i played the prologue.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short version: 71% Face Noir captures anyone easily in its world of noir tropes, but to enjoy that, you have to deal with the typical point ‘n’ click logic, the slow controls, subpar voice acting, and that… interesting ending. Long version: The title of Face Noir is very apt: it takes every noir detective story cliché known to mankind and pushes it right into the player’s face at full force. We are talking about clichés such as a mysterious phone call, a murder that the police is trying to pin…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Awesome adventure. It's one of the best point and click adventures I've played since years. Logical puzzles and interesting setting. Based on america's great depression during the 30's. It 's worth it to give it a try ;) 8,5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Our hero is Jack Del Nero, a Depression-era private eye who makes camp in a seedy downstairs apartment on the Lower East Side of New York City. Del Nero plays up every noir P.I. stereotype that you can find—he nurses his drinking problem down at the "joint" owned by a girl he's got his eye on, while getting prodded by his corrupt Russian landlord to finally pay his back rent, and getting by on minor jobs like illicit-romance-in-a-hotel-room photography. Face Noir is a methodical slow burn,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thumbs down! First off, this game ends on a cliffhanger and they never made a sequel. That alone is a reason to avoid this game. However, even if the story had been resolved, I still wouldn’t recommend this because the gameplay isn’t really fun. The gameplay is rather frustrating. You find objects that you can’t pick up until you actually need them and some objects have pointless mini-games associated with them. The doll is a good example. You find a crate of toys, but you can’t pick up the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A classic Point & Click adventure game, taking plqce in the 30s in New York. You play what I would qualify as the archetype of the Private Ivestigator; long trench coat, drinking issues, a tendency for cynisim, ex cop who has been kick off the force... Nothing really new here... And that's actually a good think. The game isn't particularilly beautiful, but the direction match the ambiance film noir wanted here. The story is suffisantly intriging to make you want to go forward, and the puzzles…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hey guys look, it's a noir period game and LA Noire was sweet. I got this game in a groupees bundle about a week after it launched on steam . The voice acting in this game is as bad as that fruit loaf your mother has sitting in her freezer with a note that states "Christmas 2003, Love Aunt Judy." This is a point and click adventure with basically the most generic story ever. It even has a private eye. More like a brown eye.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Face Noir is not big budget, fancy facial animation AAA stud. But what it brings is a breath of fresh air to the dried genre and it is game which contains interesting new gameplay mechanics and interactivity tools making it a diamond in the rough. Story is structured as a mixture of many noir-based film classics and has many famous cinema moments and mentions.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Face Noir is a old school point anc click game done right. The theme and scenario as you can guess is a Noir Detective placed in the New York from the 1930s. Decent lenght, nice story, lots of backgrounds the low points from this are the mainly for me the lip sinc animations that are uncanny awkward, and a personnal nitpick are some of the puzzles are too ''Myst'' like, rearrange puzzles that you have almost no clues for its complition. Regardless these, I have to say that I enjoyed very much…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful point & click game. Very logical and enough hard to make you doubt. The ambiance is near perfection. Just missed the french translation and the streets felt a bit empty, but nevermind. Been 10-15 hours of happiness :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I won this game on Steamgifts.com, so I received the game free of charge, but not from the developer. A lukewarm recommendation. It's a good, solid game...kind of a throwback even. It feels more like a game released in 2007 instead of 2013, which isn't all bad. But it's worth playing enough to see if the game draws you in. But note that it sets up a sequel that may never be released. PROS: - good story - good length; a fair amount of content - glitch-free - good Noir ambiance; you feel…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite a fun noir game, I enjoyed the story and game progress. Although a bit old school, that is what I enjoyed about it the most. Lots of old style puzzles to solve and concepts to figure out in order to proceed. Recommended for old school puzzle / adventure lovers.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic adventure, one of the best I've played in a long while. The story was a well written and the puzzles made sense in the world and didn't hold my hand through them but still remained fair and balanced. To address some complaints I've seen in the reviews: 1. Graphics: I found them to be ideal for this game, they were detailed and there were interesting ambent effects like the rain and smoke in bars. 2. Voices: If you watch any 40's noir films you quickly notice that's how they talk, I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have really enjoyed this point'n'click detective game. It is very atmosperic, if somewhat clichéd. The puzzles are logical and entertaining, and they are not frustratingly difficult. I would really recommend this game for fans of puzzle/pnc games and PI stories. Story 9/10 Atmosphere 10/10 Humor 9/10 Music 10/10 Voice Acting 9/10 Graphics 8/10 (it looks surpisingly good. though the screen resolution is limited and lip synch is non-existent) Overall: I would say a solid 9 out of 10. I really…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this period, genre and music. So this game from the off had the chance to tick some boxes. As it happens I've enjoyed playing the game. Its sleepy, which is fine for me, but if you like brights colors, things racing around and explosions, this isn't going to be much fun for you. If you like walking around a world, clicking, looking, thinking and hopefully solving things this could be for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really like this game. Post depression New York with noir theme is quite unique. Main hero is private detective with drinking problem. His main goal is to survive in city where everyone is corrupted. Overall the atmosphere is immersive. First couple of hours I had fun solving puzzles, interrogating people and exploring environments. Plot was nice and it makes sense. But then it started to get ridiculous. Introducing of paranormal events killed it for me. Last third of the game was boring,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't listen to the bad reviews for this game. The art, style, setting, story, characters, gameplay and so much more are really dark, gritty, onimous and have a lot of the other aspects that really hit well with the noir genre. It really feels like you're playing some old Film Noir and really hit home with me as I am a huge fan of the genre. The puzzles aren't too cryptic, but aren't too easy. Most take a little bit of thinking without having some ridiculous solution that makes no sense as I…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/C6Dfc4nKJqY Nailing the noir style and supporting it with quality voice acting isn't enough to keep the age of this title from holding it back. Puzzles are very picky and need to be completed in exact order.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Joint joint joint damnazione joint joint damnazione joint joint joint joint joint joint joint damnazione joint joint joint joint joint. If that sentence didn't excite you, you probably won't like the script for this game. The writing feels like a first draft where the second draft was just the same thing with bad attempts at slang shoehorned in. There are multiple conversations where the word joint feels like it's being used every third word. The acting is only slightly better than the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wow... I really enjoyed playing to this game. Great atmosphere, dark story with a lot of humour, music, ambience, characters, places,... all is perfect. Maybe a little negative point to the difficulty... some puzzles are to easy and... 'Dannazione', Jack told you were you maybe have to go for the next step. Ok, I follow his intuition... ;) Hoping that 'Face Noir 2' will be realesed soon...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i think it's one of this game tha everyone have to play! Can't wait for part 2
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Face Noir won't probably be remembered as a gem, or a masterpiece of the graphic adventure genre. Nevertheless, it's a game I'd recommend (at least to all the hardcore graphic adventure fans out there) because even with all its flaws, Face Noir feels like a game with something to say. I didn't like the puzzles very much, they are either very easy or very hard to solve, due to a massive use of pixel hunting, but I really enjoyed the story. I think the guys at Mad Orange made an awesome job at…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This. Game. First I start playing and completly underestimate it, expecting an average point and click CSI-like game. But then... the plot came and surprisingly change my mind positively over and over across the playthrough. Sometimes predictable, somethimes impossible to get through. Precise balancing to keep you envolved. I recommend stay away from spoilers, because this is definitely worth all the surprise, the feeling to fry your brain putting the facts together. But maybe you'll need an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →takes place in 1930's New York. main actors voice over rivals Deus Ex's own JC Denton for most monotone, ever. These are good things, and the story is A+. Got it half off, but worth it. +1 would rec.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Damntzione. This game has the most shades of brown. Between average to a solid point and click adventure game. Gameplay is not bad. The down side is the lip sync. Mad Orange has done a great job. Fans of adventure games would find this interesting. The price for this game should be lower by now (since the original release date). Maybe $10.? Overall... 8/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Dannazionne!" this is one fantastic game! Mind you, this is more of a sci-fi noir game, there will be a few twists towards the middle that will have you doing a double-take. But trust me, the game is pretty good for what it is. It's a little slow to start and it's difficult to grasp the story at times since there are so many characters and side stories to keep track of and there are intervals throughout the game that calls for 'rewinds' and 'fast forwards' in time to portray other…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Face Noir is an adventure that promises much and gets nothing. The development is slow, very slow, the story is boring and does not begin to engage or get interesting until about halfway through the game. The first part of the game will be running around doing silly things and visiting the port often. Too strict and lineal, you can only pick up and use things when he tells you "you have to do" ... even knowing what you have to do next... that´s the principal issue that breaks the enjoyment of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is badass. If you like detective stories, noir films and point-and-click adventure games, then you will like this game. I know I do. This game should be ranked 100/100 on Metacritic. The only reason why it's not is because people who rated it don't like film noir, detective stories and point-and-click adventure games as much as I do.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh it's rubbish, just rubbish. The voice acting is laughable but after the first few scenes you're not getting any joy from laughing and the interactions are frustrating. It's a lazily put together game, especially in terms of cut scenes and the actual mechanics are quite stodgy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is not bad. Atmosphere and graphics are quite good (early XXI century style), puzzles are mildly challenging and quite entertaining, but the main character is incredibly annoying. Another "Dannazione" and some more moaning about needing a drink? Please stop.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game tries, and to be fair, the early parts are nicely noir and atmospheric. The stumbling only begins some halfway into the game - and plot. And like the drunk main character, it keeps swaying and stumbling right into the end where it falls flat on its face... Noir.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was enjoying it until I hit a game breaking bug - Could not exit dialog with Victoria about the Chinese cab driver early in story. In addition, the story is not complete. It was supposed to be finished in a sequel, which I guess is NOT in the works.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Spend a week with this; worth it. Act like it was released in the early 2000s instead of 2013 and you got yourself a decent crime adventure. The background is simply amazing and the music creates a moody athmosphere. Some parts are left to personal opinion and/or interpretation, which is ok for time spend in front of a computer screen. The characters fulfil a wide range of stereotypes of various ethnics looking for a better life in this weird wild place called America. Story is fine; many…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Face Noir is a detective/crime story taking place during the Great Depression in New York, wrapped into an old-school point and click adventure created by Italian studio, Mad Orange. The game follows the classic adventure game formula from the 90s and does a fairly good job at it. Unfortunately when the story starts to get really interesting, the game ends abruptly. Our hero is called Jack Del Nero (haha, the game likes to play around with names) who seems to be our standard private detective:…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a fan of point & click advnture and of noir films, I found this game very disappointing. The gameplay is annoying (not allowed to continue without the right clue even when you know the next step as opposed to having to solve a puzzle without any clue whatsoever), and includes irritating mini-challenges. Ad\nd finally, the script is cheesy, even for noir story, with rather poor voice acting. Definitely not going to play the sequel.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this game atmosphere. Remind me of The Maltese Falcon movie in 40's
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice and challenging ! Described the game in 3 words :D worth your time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like noir and point & click games you will absolutely love this game like I do. The game's atmosphere and the story is very good. The only thing I don't like about this game is voice acting. Definitely worth the money and the time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A new game meant to look old, i dunno
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An Extremely fascinating P&C-Noir quest that combines all the classical of the detective genre with its own interesting features and ideas! You are a private detective Jack Del Nero who is been hired by some rich oldman to take a few "compromising" pictures of his distrustful stepdaughter. Just another "chore" for Jack to take care of... what could possibly go wrong?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surprisingly good adventure game, puzzles are abit hard but doable. Story is very interesting and setting is very nice. You feel climate of the game and its worth to buy it on a sale. Sadly devs will not make second part most probably. Still story ending is satisfactory. Big surprises halfway the game. Advised to buy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pros + jazzy soundtrack + 1930's noir atmosphere and depression-era setting + there are nice variety of puzzles + game is long + intriguing storytelling with twists and cast of realistic characters + translation from italian to english pretty good + when you press to F1, hotspots highlighted so no need to pixel hunting. + there are some good jokes + there is auto save cons - game works with low framerate and laggy on Windows 10 but when you download dxwnd and run game's exe with this…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I reviewed this back in the day and got a lot of flak for what I had to say but I still stand by it. This game is plain boring and the story is nonsense. It's a pretty racist game with Jewish and East Asian stereotypes that comes off not only as offensive, but plain childish. The developer also whined about the reviews (not mine specifically, or so I've been told) that was calling him and his crap game racist. But if you don't care about that, maybe you'd like to know about the boring puzzles?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →8.6/10 - One of the Best Point and Click Games If you don't mind point and click this one is surely to delight. You are a private eye solving a mystery in the 1940's; the setting is very noir and complements everything perfectly. There are some pretty decent cut-scenes and I didn't mind the voice acting at all. The puzzles and clue finding are well done, especially lock picking! I'd pay the $10, but got this on sale for $5. Accidently Reviewed Was this review helpful or maybe even not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is good overall, I like it, it's one of the nicest point-and-click adventure games I played, yet it gets only a borderline recommendation, as it also has some rather hard to ignore downsides. Pros: -nice noir atmosphere, immersive and cool -the dialog lines usually manage to avoid being boring or annoying -interesting enough plot (until the ending) -Steam Trading Cards and some really nice Steam profile backgrounds Cons: - Greta's voice acting is horrendous, no tone change and no…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →'Dannazione!' -Jack, Face Noir (Prepare to hear that alot in this game. It's so fun to hear the main character become frustrated while lock-picking or messing with the thermostat!) The game is a fun point-and-click game wich is not that hard, it's a bit tricky at times but most of it is logical. The graphics are great and the sound sets the mood for the game. I can certainly recommend it, ask me if you have any questions
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good point and click. There are interactive puzzles and a good story. One downfall is that you will occasionally have to go back and reinteract with items after reaching a certain point in the story, even though nothing changed from your initial interaction. Another is that some of the puzzles aren't exactly consistent when interacting with them. Occasionally a lock that needs to be picked will be missing a tumbler position, forcing you to start the lock puzzle over. Even with those two…
