Sitting between his Zardoz mask and his Excalibur sword, director John Boorman reflects on what went wrong. Out today in the USA + UK next month. 4 out of 5 film-authority.com/2026/08/28/b...

My friends and I had my annual birthday movie night last night, showcasing the iconic, “Exorcist II.” Tonight is karaoke and pinball!! 🎂🫏🍻♒️

unlabelledView post →I reviewed it for the US release, but quirky documentary Boorman and the Devil is finally out in UK cinemas. The Boorman is director John Boorman, and the devil is in the detail about how Exorcist II: The Heretic turned out to be a turkey for the ages. 4 out of 5. film-authority.com/2026/08/28/b...

unlabelledView post →about halfway through The Exorcist II and this movie is cool, what the hell is everyone always bitching about. let's get some apologies to john boorman going in the chat
unlabelledView post →Documentary sensationally claims that Exorcist II: the Heretic nearly destroyed the life of director John Boorman, but the arguments are only partly founded Boorman and the Devil premieres in the 82nd Venice International Film Festival: dmovies.org/2025/09/06/b...

unlabelledView post →We watched the "Boorman and the Devil" doc about the making of noted cinematic bomb The Exorcist II and it makes this exact point. Exorcist 2 had some obviously terrible stuff (Burton's performance, the entire script), but John Boorman put his entire genius ass into that weird/dumb/cool movie
unlabelledView post →David Kittredge’s incredibly entertaining BOORMAN AND THE DEVIL, about the making of John Boorman’s EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC, finally opens this week. I’m in it, so I can’t review it, but I wrote about it anyway: www.vulture.com/article/i-ca...
unlabelledView post →Every frame of Boorman and the Devil drips with David Kittredge’s deep love for film and more specifically The Exorcist II: Heretic. It’s a doc made of blood sweat and tears and a must-see for anyone who’s ever been obsessed with a film - and all lovers of film.
unlabelledView post →I love Exorcist II; such a bizarre experiment from Boorman and beautifully shot. Morricone's score is FABULOUS. It's true that the actors aren't good, but we're talking auteur film making here! He wanted to make an Exorcist film which was completely different from the first, and boy did he.

unlabelledView post →My review of Equus prompted discussion of another Richard Burton movie, his contribution to John Boorman's beknighted sequel Exorcist II: The Heretic. It's terrible, and yet I'm drawn to rewatch this one over and over again, unable to believe how awful it is. 2/5 film-authority.com/2025/05/15/e...

unlabelledView post →Say what you will about EXORCIST II, but that’s not a movie made by algorithm. It has moments of grace and also moments of unintentional hilarity. It’s goofy but it’s also fiercely, defiantly ambitious.

unlabelledView post →Every great director has made at least one terrible film & this was Boorman’s. EXORCIST II is a perfect 1970s storm of psycho babble & occultism. Not entirely convinced that Eric von Däniken didn‘t ghost the script. All it needed was Burton‘s priest riding a giant locust to do battle with the devil.
unlabelledView post →Beyond Fest Screening #2: EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC! Martin Scorsese’s personal 35mm print! Dreamlike on its presentation. If the first film is about evil corrupting good, this sequel is about good triumphing over evil. A good sequel, but not the one the world was ready for.
unlabelledView post →I think I understand some of the reasons why John Boorman's EXORCIST II: THE HERETIC is so hated, but I guess I'm a sucker for ambitious and unhinged sequels made for and/or by weirdos. I try to make a case for it here.

unlabelledView post →#filmsky Good director - awful movie? Jaws still drop that John Boorman delivered Exorcist II: The Heretic (out today, 1977). I find it less a disaster than an oddly fascinating mess: surreal visuals, creepy Pazuzu scenes in Africa, eye-popping bad Richard Burton & Louise Fletcher acting. Why, John?
unlabelledView post →I listened to the @fthismovie.bsky.social episode on Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977) and it made me think about the films of John Boorman. This four movie run needs to be studied!

The mother of all #Exorcist exploitation movies, notable for its *all star* cast & crew — most of whom were all thespian Oscar winners or nominees.
