I once dreamed of making a creature collecting Slay-the-Spire-esque roguelike, because I love the feeling of moulding a team of creatures into a rag-tag boss-bullying battalion but wanted the immediacy of a roguelike experience. Well that game now exists, and that dream is now dead. This too is your fault. This game is awesome. Well done, and **** you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There’s a pretty good game here, but it’s covered by a frustrating control scheme. Did anyone actually playtest this? The game would greatly improve if the following issues were addressed: - better control scheme with mouse support, - allow key rebinding, - add more options, especially graphic ones, - improve tooltips to provide clearer reminders of which keys to press for specific actions, - improve targeting mechanics, - revise the control scheme for battles to make them actually engaging.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After playing for 4 hours and getting a win under my belt, I feel like the game just isn't balanced enough to recommend it. Issues: The enemies spike up hard between the first and second act (and from the second to third, to a lesser degree) even though beating the act boss doesn't increase your power at all. you don't even full heal after the act boss, so suddenly you're thrown against much harder enemies with little counter play your units die for good barring some items/unit [unit…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. The pixel art is adorable, the creature collecting is genuinely fun, and I enjoyed building my team through Acts 1 and 2. I was invested. I made it all the way to the final boss with a solid team I'd carefully built up over an hour. Then the boss "bonded" to my last remaining Evoling. I have no idea what this mechanic does. There's no clear explanation in-game. What I DO know is that suddenly I was forced to damage myself every time I attacked. My own…

unlabelledView post →Update (Sept 30): The latest update removes a lot of the annoyances I had with the game. Mainly, Sacrifice (which added some risk to path taking, but was extremely difficult to work around) and enemies only reigniting once (since my main problem with the game was a boss that kept using that over and over, to the point I thought the game was bugged). Update(Sept 24): Edited to write more about RNG in the game. What you may like: * Easy to pick up and to continue from where you left of. Very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to enjoy the game, but there are flashing effects and there doesn't seem to be any way to turn them off (I tried a few things in settings, including changing the filter, with no luck).
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I could give a mixed review, that'd be where this review is currently. Since I can't, and the game is pretty old plus seemingly finished development with some awkward new player experience, I'll be posting this as a negative review. The initial impressions are quite positive, the small pool of starting Evolings is nice to get used to combat and the overall mechanics. Where things start to get muddy is late Act 2-3 which is a very unfortunate part of the game to stop explaining things to the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A cool and challenging combination of a grindy Rogue-like and collecting monsters! I'm pretty in love with the cute design of the Evolings and super hyped to finish my first run and fill the Evopedia. In almost every run I either discovered new Evolings, abilities, items or devastating enemies (who then ended this run). Although sometimes really challenging, the joy of building up a team of Evolings always motivates me for another run, Would definitely recommend this game if you look for a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Evolings is a fun game where you collect companions who you control to win battles for you. You'll find yourself speeding through runs and collecting every type of evoling with unique attributes. During your adventures however, you are gonna come across shiny and even rainbow evolings, with low chances of spawning. This brings up my one and only issue with the game, its achievements are fully based off of luck, meaning that no matter how good you are you still have to rely on getting good…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good base concept with frustrating execution. There are very few ways to impact your outcome beyond choosing from a very limited set of preordained options. It's obviously built inspired by Slay the Spire's pathways, but fails to understand what makes the paths work in that game. RNG plays far too large of a part in how your team will come together over time, meaning you're rarely deliberately choosing what kind of build you're ending up with. Combined evolings are the most necessary…

unlabelledView post →That game really took me by surprise. It's genuinely good. Hard as heck, sure, well it's a roguelike after all so it can come down to luck every once in a while (I've seen a couple comment about the third boss, yeah, it's difficult, abusing sleep/freeze/sticky can help but it's doable with incremental damage/abusing bond) but damn satisfying. Anyways, it's great, figuring out the fusions is most of what I find fun, there's a sense of wonder in trying (or not) to mash up beasties together and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like it. Got it on sale for 3 bucks so for that price it's a wonderful pokemon-esque roguelike. There's nothing really to compare it to - its Creature collector meets slay the spire type game loop and no one else has done this quite like this. I hope this gets a sequel or someone else makes a similar game cause HOT DAMN this could use some improvements. I would love this game so much with just a couple extra tweaks - 1) balancing - the rng is extremely stacked against you. I've only made it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rarely do I feel the need to leave a downvote on a game and ask for a refund, but damn. This game is extremely difficult, you'll play a couple stages feel like you're getting somewhere and then get your whole team wiped in one hit that you couldn't have done anything about. There are times when you "evolve" one of your evolings and you have to choose one to get a negative stat, like why? if you just changed that the game would feel better. Its ok, but its not fun enough to warrant a difficulty…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very addictive roguelike... deckbuilder (?) with lots and lots of replayability. It's super fun to discover new evolings (they're all cute!), see what they can do and try to break the game balance around them. Baldur's Gate 3, Armored Core VI and Starfield will have to wait, let's go for another run.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perfect for a quick dopamine hit. Or two, or three ...
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lacks meta progression.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There are so many really basic problems with this game. It gives no explanations on pretty much any mechanics, looking at descriptions of things is either extremely annoying or not available, and extremely imbalanced. There are also very frustrating enemies, that are insanely unfun and annoying to deal with, and it doesn't help that I can't tell exactly how the enemies work so that I can make a plan around them because this game refuses to give explanations on almost anything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I quite like the mechanics of the game but the balance is pretty bad. There is no post battle healing so if you're not offered a healer unit you just chip down throughout a run. The enemy encounters also vary WILDLY in difficulty one fight you might fight a single unit the next you might fight 6 equally powerful enemies all while you have only 2-3 yourself. The strength of your team is WAY to RNG. Normal floor fights reward a little money but don't strengthen your team at all so you just have…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is unserious game XD Game doesn't tell you s***, and balance is whack, but it's extremely fun and worth your time!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I couldn't believe that the game was how it was, so I forced myself to complete Act 1 to see if something finally "stuck". It didn't. The first "random event" I received forced me to sacrifice one of my two monster for not benefit in return, which resulted in my unavoidable loss the next encountered. RNG had little to do with anything (There is very little RNG during battle). During battles, your monsters can Attack, Block, or inflict some status effect or heal. Each monsters have up to three…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sometimes you get completely gutpunched by RNG but it kinda adds to the charm
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got it on sale, figuring it'd be worth it regardless of the things stated in the negative reviews. Immediately got hooked and kept doing run after run. Yes, sometimes it's brutal in scaling if you haven't balanced out your team. But it's not impossible and provides a fun challenge. The music is fun, graphics are cute and the mechanics are easy by itself but hard to fully master. I recommend this to everyone looking for that quick, cute dopamine hit that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i like this a lot, its not too easy and not too hard. its not super balanced but that is ok, it feels really good when you get a combo of creatures and items that just work really well and there are a lot of good combos. getting a new creature is really fun, kinda the best part lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I doubt the depth is worth the effort.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very charming game with a very cool concept. Experimenting with all the monsters and figuring out what the fusion recipes are was definitely a great experience. Now if I'm being honest, the game isn't that stimulating, beyond the thrill of the discovery. It's very "unbalanced". Not in the sense it's too hard. If anything, the game is actually way too easy. There's just a huge gap between items and monsters that are underwhelming, and those that are extremely strong, and the game makes it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A really fun game, especially for the $5 price tag. If you like roguelikes, you'll probably get at least a few hours out of this one. It can be seriously unforgiving as other reviews mention (a positive in my opinion) but it's not hard to snowball to an easy win if you consider your choices carefully and know what strategies work for the artifact you're up against.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Creature variety and combinations make each run feel unique, quite addictive.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This has potential but there are too many poor design choices. why am i supposed to memorize how much damage each guy does with each skill? So much information is hidden, why can't I see the chance of status effects? It's all so weird. I hope there's a sequel that is more refined and takes UX and playtesting into consideration. All that said, since it's so cheap you can try it and see if you like it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't say I found this game enjoyable. It is pretty unpolished, doesn't really feel engaging, and overall doesn't have a great game loop for it. You'd be better off playing Pixelings or something similar
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pokemon meets slay the spire in this turn based roguelike. I particularly like that by collecting 3 of one type itll evolve into a new creature, but often 2 of 1 type and 1 of another will often make a unique monster. Very Cool, feels classic, worth 5 bucks.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wans't going to refund this game, but there's just no way not to after playing a bit. The mechanics are obtuse, the difficulty spike from act 1 to act 2 is ridiculous, your monsters perma-die, there are no tooltips explaining what the status do... it's... honestly a mess. My entire first run I just killed everything in one turn. Literally. I didn't even know what enemy turns looked like. Then I beat the boss pretty easily. And then I died on the literal first turn of act 2. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →March 2024, The game feels pretty empty. Played for 35 minutes, did like 5 or 6 runs and only only got offered a really small variety of monsters to choose from. I understand most are probably unlockable, and that the fusion system means there's a bunch of different evolutions even with few base mons. But for a game trying to sell the fantasy of a monster-collector you really should front-load some of that sense of discovery of seeing a new guy, because it's the most fun part of the genre.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the games cool and all and i thought maybe i was just bad at it at first, but no EVERY. SINGLE. RUN. HAS TO HAVE PERFECT RNG OR IT WONT WORK, OH YOU THOUGHT YOU FOUND A CLEVER WORKAROUND? NO YOU DIDNT BECAUSE THE GAME JUST DECIDES TO INTRODUCE A NEW MECHANIC OUT OF THE BLUE, YOU COULD BE HAVING A GREAT RUN BUT THEN THE GAME JUST DECIDES NOT TO GIVE YOU MORE THAN ONE EVOLING FOR THE FIRST WORLD AND THEN YOU JUST DIE BECAUSE NO AMOUNT OF STRATEGIC PLANNING CAN BEAT THE BOSS, IVE ONLY WON ONCE AND…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They spelled thou "though" and traps "trapps." They call the night hag a "him." I found a few other errors but they were similarly minor and very sparse. If devs fix the typos and add more content like items, evolings and fusions, it will easily become a 10/10 game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game CAN be a lot of fun. But in its current state, I can't say I recommend it. The game likes to make you think that there are lots of creatures to choose from. But half of the creature types can only be obtained rarely from specific spots. And the half that you can freely obtain, 2 out of 3 are beyond useless and can barely make it out of the first area. So, out of 6 creature types, there is really only one you can actually use AND successfully clear a run. If that doesnt bother you…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fight! I feel I’ve only scratched the surface, but here goes… This game is presented as roguelike, turn-based, combat game. For me, it’s a collectathon experience of spending the hours figuring out what optimal builds there are. And there are many, many possible builds. Each creature has a type, three of each type can be combined to make a new stronger creature, depending on which were picked. This leads to a huge number of possible creatures. Fusing is the name of the game, and you’ll need to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game! i found it during the steam next fest & was obsessed with the demo. i can't stop playing! & i'm so glad it's out :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent! I find just a game for a long time. When I played this game, I really have a childhood memories :) I love a game play and also soundtracks. Recommend! I have to collect all of evolings soon. Okay, let's play!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is a really fun game with an awesome soundtrack! it's easy to get the hang of and the design is really cool too. 100% worth the price.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I haven't played for too long, but I cant tell I'm going to be addicted. Easy controls. Challenging combat, surprisingly, good kind. I would like the option to see the details of my items while in game. Yeah, lets see how you guys take this game into the future.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i quite liked it for it to be as random as it is
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An unusual rougelike involving assembling a group of candy, slimes, space beings, and others as you vanquish monsters. You collect items on your journey and evolve your creatures as you travel deeper. The main focus is that it plays more like a strategy game of outplaying your enemies in an RPG like fashion. There is a lot of replay value with all the modifiers and creatures you can recruit/evolve. The art is just meh but the music includes good chip-tunes. Its not too pricy and doesn't have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A pure underrated masterpiece. Evolings is a charming, action packed strategy game that's sure to keep you entertained for hours while admiring its cute art style. A hidden gem that deserves way more representation and popularity.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little team builder game. You start with a choice of 3 monsters, and path your way through 3 acts. Along the way you can collect more monsters. When you get a specific combo of 3, they merge into a (generally) more powerful monster. Collecting them all throughout the runs has been amusing. The main frustration I've had is a lack of information in game. Most of it can be intuited (after playing a few rounds), but there is some that is still unnecessarily obtuse. For instance, when you…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Score: 2/5 Pokemon + Slay the Spire + Bad game design + Technical issues Simply put, it's unreasonably difficult and not very fun. And I was part of the target audience. The Good 1. Moderate variety, some replayability. 2. Art style and animations aren't bad. 3. Music, and about half of the audio/SFX are good. The Bad 1. Balance and RNG Very bad balance, especially after about 15 minutes into a run. I don't play games to follow a meta, which is probably what's required to finish a run…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretending to be 50 year old game -- but was obviously written by a freshborn who never learned what was creating the fun in those days and what we wanted to leave there. Good thing it was in a bundle, i'd have been really annoyed for picking it up as an actual buy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Evolings presents itself as a compact but appealing blend of monster collecting, turn-based strategy, and roguelike progression, all wrapped in a cozy pixel-art style that immediately signals accessibility rather than intimidation. From your very first run, you’re thrust into a world where tiny creatures are both your companions and your weapons, and where each expedition unfolds across randomized maps filled with enemies, treasure rooms, shrines, and branching paths. There’s no heavy lore or…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun and cute game but it could be challenging for newer players especially on the jump in difficulty from act one to two
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall fun roguelike creature collector. I think the balance is fine (you should not expect to win every run of a roguelike game) and there are ways around some bottlenecks the other reviews mentioned (eg voodoo killing allies can be mitigated through cleanse, sleep, and waiting out the move that breaks the bond). However they are right in saying these mechanics are not particularly well explained. There are also some mechanics that need improvement such as the quicksand quicktime event which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun and quick game, just want to show some love because of the lack of updates.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unpolished, frustrating. Regret even at bargain price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →https://youtu.be/CW6nTWh29gs While the whimsical art style and creature design is refreshing the balance is far too brutal to be fun to play.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extrem schwer und... langweilig?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dev should really look into balancing the difficulty, and maybe add some passive items instead of only consumables, to make each run have some difference, I do like how easy it is to jump in and jump out but there is too many times I've died and it felt unfair. You can almost tell a losing run by the starter you choose. Anything with low damage early on will get killed resulting in end of run, or just stuck in a loop of healing/shielding yourself in a clearly lost battle ....and why does…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you looking for a game to chill and have fun. Evolings isn't the one you are looking for. The enemys scale too strong in comparison to your army. Get used to repeat the start over and over again.
