Did I do the right thing by playing this game for the first time ever in 2026? Oh boy... I definetly did. Insanely good action game with satisfying combat and platforming. The story was unfolding slowly at first, but the ending blew me away so hard that it will haunt me forever. Plays very well on the Steam Deck. I am still wondering how Pigsy picked up a name like that...

Enslaved is one of those where the gameplay is incidental to the overall experience. It's linear with some minor exploration to collect what are essentially orbs of XP for beefing up the protagonist. There's some perfunctory melee combat with your standard light/heavy attacks, dodge, block, etc. There's also ranged combat that's limited by ammo that's collectable on the field. There's also some "press button to make jump happen" platforming and switch hitting puzzles. Mostly inoffensive…

Ahh, a good ol' game before everything became a 40+hour open world slog with boring combat inspired by Dark Souls. The gameplay is a mixture of combat, stealth, shooting, climbing/exploration, and very light puzzle-solving, all at a fast pace and its quite fun. The story is the Matrix mixed with the Monkey King Chinese mythology, which is quite a creative and unique experience. Adding to the simple, yet good story are the great characters. Their personalities and voice-acting give the whole…

Still holds place in my heart. One of those games that I remember fondly. Its not about the destination its how you get there. The journey will be wild. Mixture of platforming and high action scenes are nice touch and blend in together nicely. Post apocalyptic scenery wish lush dense vibrant colour pallet its what stands out for this game. Monkey and Trip chemical duo punch to the window of freedom. But what awaits is not known. I still yearn for the sequel of this game to collect all dots…

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a reimagining of Journey to the West set in a lush post-apocalyptic world where machines have become the apex predators. It is very much a product of the PS3 era, clunky and rough around the edges in ways that feel oddly characteristic of the time. The combat, and the aiming in particular, are quite poor, and the formula can become repetitive, even if the game makes a genuine effort to keep things fresh. As a result, it feels longer than it really is, and…

A great surprise... Received this game as a gift, and I wasn't prepared for one of the coolest hack'n'slash games I've ever played. It has a simple and journey-driven story inspired by the old Journey to the West novel, with a gorgeous post-apocalyptic environment. An underrated game for sure. If you're into hack'n'slashes, i'ts a must-play.

If you like those one shot action adventure games with nice plot and reliable gameplay then Enslaved is on your list. Similar to games like Bionic Commando and such it offer good mix of action, platforming and combat. Improve abilities to become even greater than in real life and become true monkey king. Fights can be frustrating but when learning how to make proper combos it's walk in the park. Climbing is often, check surroundings to find passages and levers. Levels engaging enough to play…

Oh man, how amazing and criminally underrated this game is! I still remember playing it during my school years, it was such an incredible experience. I don’t know why new games don’t have that same charm the older ones did. I really wish we could go back to the roots, when gaming was pure fun. This game is just so good the story, the chemistry between Trip and Monkey, the visuals and world design everything is crafted beautifully. And the music in the end is absolutely fantastic. Overall impression: D. The gameplay is wonky. The story is all over the place, and the ending is a huge mess. For each part it gets right, there is another that is horrible. I was glad when I got through with the game because it felt more like work than it did a fun adventure.

story and its characters are more important here than gameplay. and it's a very Alex Garland story. if you've seen his Annihilation or Devs, or the 28 Days Later franchise, then you'll see similar tricks and tropes. especially that pretentious ending. even the art direction of Enslaved has something in common with his films. and probably because of Garland I won't replay this game. I loved the main characters. Andy Serkis's team made them come alive, but the story is so hopeless and brutal…

Is this game a bit rough around the edges? Yes. Do the loading screen transitions get a bit glitchy? Yes. Is the game perfect? No. But damn, do I absolutely love the pacing and flow of the story-telling of Enslaved. Not to mention some PHENOMINAL voice acting, with Andy Serkis crushing it as always. What you get with Enslaved is a fairly referenced cover version of "Journey to the West" in an Apocalyptic / Dystopic setting, and some early Ps3 era gameplay & graphics. The game isn't too long…

I've been taking a Trip down memory lane replaying my old favorites on the steam deck and I am amazed how well this one holds up even today. It is a blast from start to finish and a cult classic for a good reason. Visuals, world building The main selling point of the game was how cinematic it was. A super unique game. Combat can be difficult and a bit repetitive. Very good cinematics and characters. Seriously, the acting is top tier. ANDY SERKIS IS HERE, damn it, of course it's top tier. Freakin' King Kong is in the house. The setting is similar to The Last of Us. A post-apocalyptic America. Moss over everything. Hardly a soul in sight but the monsters. It's very good for at least a singular playthrough. Highly recommend it on sale.

Enslaved is a good game. Not exceptional but a good game. Enjoyable from beginning to end. There is a good balance of puzzle and combat. The characters are very well acted and honestly I felt like that Monkey's finishing animations are more varied than some modern AAA releases. The environments show their age but it's not a bad looking game. There are games that tries to feel epic at every point but Enslaved felt like a build up to something epic and it delivered. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West in 2026 is a solid 7.5 to 8 out of 10. It may have been a more significant game when it originally released, but as someone playing it for the first time in 2026, that's my score. The game still looks great for its age, and it's optimized incredibly well. I was actually able to beat the entire game on a Retroid Pocket 5 (essentially a smartphone with a built-in controller) using GameNative. The story and characters ar what truly elevate this game, and the ending hits hard. I’m a huge Andy Serkis fan, and he brings that quality of performance to everything hes in. I loved the fixed camera angles, and the apocalyptic world is absolutely gorgeous. I played this right after Heavenly Sword—it has the same level of fantastic character work, but the gameplay is much more enjoyable and far less complicated. The DLC is a lot of fun as well. I doubt we’ll ever get a sequel, but I’d love one.

Abandoned after 4-5 hours. Great presentation and voice acting (Serkis is terrific as always) and that’s about it. Awful awful combat and camera movement, and the climbing traversal seems to just be there for the sake of it (you can’t really die by falling so there’s no stakes when flinging yourself from handhold to handhold). The camera / combat combo make this a chore and there seems to be input lag (at least on steam deck for which it is verified) which makes things very frustrating. I’m…

I spent years thinking about playing this game, saving it for a rainy day. Post-apocalyptic, duo journeys across a world where you slowly learn what happened and about the MCs, those are the kinda games I'm a sucker for. TLOU has done it well, so has the NieR series to name a couple. This? hella disappointing. The story covers none of the above. Monkey and Trip set the scene at the beginning where one is... enslaved to take the other home against their will. There are barely any tensions built…

Overall, a great game with enjoyable story and combat system, with only a few minor flaws. 📖 One of the strong points of the game is its story and writing, particularly when it revolves around the female companion, Trip, and the main character, Monkey. Voice acting is amazing and the dialogue holds up. No cringe ever. Combat is meh. Simple but satisfying. Story is better than most and the game never seems to get stale or slow. Enslaved is often called an underrated game — and there’s some truth to that. It genuinely has strong qualities: a consistent artistic style, beautiful environments, expressive facial animations, and memorable characters. Visually and atmospherically, the game feels cohesive and thoughtfully crafted. Perhaps with a deeper combat system and a denser, more eventful story, it could have stayed in the hearts of a much larger audience. But we have what we have. It’s certainly not a bad game. In…

I don't understand the high praise for this game. It's linear to a fault: often I was not able to do anything unless I stood in the exact spot the devs intended, there is no exploration and the combat is laughably simple and easy. Also the story it tells and the character it presents have been already done a million times in other games, often better.

I love action games. I enjoy games like Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising Revengence, Final Fantasy XVI, and Wanted Dead. Gameplay is the most important part of a game for me. I haven't played very much of ENSLAVED: Odyssey to the West yet, but I can already tell it prioritizes the story over the gameplay. You do end up caring for the characters along the way. The graphics still hold up decently well in my opinion. You'll definitely enjoy the base game if you have some nostalgia for the early 2010's games. The main character kept triggering that "come ma lady, come-come ma lady you're my butterfly sugar baby" guy from 2000s' MTV, tickling the nostalgia gland in my brain.
