I booted this back up after being away from it for a few years. EAC is now required and cross-play is forced through the Epic Client. IF you do not enable this, there are fewer than 50 total players across all game servers. The game is effectively dead. Not worth the price tag.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Empyrion – Galactic Survival Review as of 2026 Final assessment: One and done. It can provide one enjoyable playthrough, but better games exist. After playing Empyrion throughout its 11-year development cycle, I can safely say that it still does not feel finished. Despite officially leaving Early Access, it continues to feel like an alpha. It has a great concept and attempts things that very few games do at this scale, but it lacks the depth and polish needed for long-term play. The biggest…

I wouldn't have left this review if the devs didn't act like collosal ♥♥♥♥♥ and deleted my simple comment on an update thread posted about v1.18, where someone asked for achievements. I supported these ♥♥♥♥♥♥ devs since Early Access back in 2017 and they act like they're doing us a favor while making one of the most generic survival games in existence. Anyway, this was my reply to that person asking for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →⭐⭐ Bad A Budget version of Space Engineers. The game where your imagination works harder than the engine. Empyrion is a sandbox survival game that promises you the galaxy, then hands you a shovel and says, “Figure it out.” On paper, it’s everything: space exploration, base building, vehicles, combat, freedom. In practice, it’s like duct-taping Minecraft, Space Engineers, and a 2010 Unity demo together and hoping nobody looks too closely. The building system is honestly the best part. You can…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been playing this game a long time. I love the idea and most of the implementation, but there are far too many bugs, unfinished scenarios, unfinished this, that, ♥♥♥♥ that has been on their todo list for a decade now. Features that are trivial and must-have QOL features are simply not here or don't work correctly. This game feels more and more unpolished with each update. I simply can't recommend this game whatsoever. Maybe one day the dev will hand this game off to someone who knows what…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought it at its original release on Steam years ago. The game had potential then, it was unfinished but it was early days.. over 6 years later and barely anything has changed. This is a game that will never be finished and is not a complete game. Full of Bugs. It had potential years ago. It is just a money farm for anyone will stilling to give it a chance.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so close to being amazing. Unfortunately there are just too many bugs and balancing issues.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game didn't tell me about structural integrity but let me build a huge prefab base with 36 plots for plants. I geeked out on buying sprouts and did all the quests (I'm still on the first moon). The seventh plant I tried to place made half my base explode. Dream killer. edit: I thought perhaps I had been too hasty, so I gave the game another chance. I loaded an earlier save (from before the tragedy) and began trying to improve the structural integrity of my base. The first block I added…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In light of the recent negative reviews(looking at you dude with 2.5h into the game but can somehow explain how 60 hours of content suck...): It has its flaws, sure. But it's still an indie game and a labour of love. The devs are trying their best from what I can tell and I keep coming back to just enjoy space. It's better every time, no matter what people say. If you can look past the flaws, it's fundamentally different to its contenders and offers its own unique experience that they do not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have tried, I have tried SOOOO hard to give this game it's due. It has gotten worse. Years ago I could wander the galaxy and have cool fights. This game is now outright unplayable. For Co-op or single. Ground? Nope randomly fall through it. Your hover it now underground. Need to dock your small craft? Nope now you are phasing through your own capitol ship! Enemies? Laser accurate minigunners that see through cover (that block your LOS) that NEVER MISS, NEVER RELOAD, NEVER RUN OUT OF AMMO.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is conceptually neat but poorly executed. Massive jank throughout and convoluted mechanics. Its been in this way for some time now so I doubt it is something that will change as well. Ended with me playing perfectly fine last night and waking up not being able to join any servers due to EAC being broken. No amount of troubleshooting would fix sadly so Im taking the hint and am going to stop playing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such promise and potential, somehow always left me wanting a great deal more polish and playability. I really hate to refuse recommending it, but for everything it did right and innovated... it absurdly missed the mark being over ambitious and half baked integral parts of the experience. value for money is still probably there when on sale, but it's not very respectful of your time when your backlog is growing and it offers little while over promising.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was told by a dev on discord that eac is disabled for linux to make bug reporting and fixes more isolated to windows. dumb reason imo. good game if you still use windows however I need to give a thumbs down to express the issue Edit: To clarify I dont mean myself bug reporting I mean they dont want to advertise linux support for eac servers and then have to deal with extra bugs so they cut eac from linux Exact dev quote: "Linux only issues being reported on our support email), what needs…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →lame ass achievements like "come play within a month of this date or you can never earn the blue ribbon for this game". straight up trash devs for that one
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game from time to time since the Early Access and it used to be my most favourite space survival game of all time. And I loved the fact that the devs continue supporting it for such a long time and continuously deliver the new content. Its base building, survival and resource management mechanics are amazing. HOWEVER. This game has one aspect that kills all the fun, and this aspect hasn't changed at all since 2015. It has ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE combat. You can wear different types…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to like this game but it's just not finished enough for that. This game is a work in progress, it should have never left early access in this state. I think there's a strong base for a good game, but for now it has failed to materialize. It often looks, feels, and plays more like a mod trying its best to make something work with an engine that the devs can't change, rather than a full released game. The game looks okay most of the time, the animations are pretty bad, the models are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has SO MUCH potential, when it works is fun, expansive, creative and wonderful. Sadly, these are the worst developers possible of our generation. They rarely update content or more importantly fix bugs and they have never once dreamed of optimizing this game, IT RUNS LIKE @SS on a decently spec-ed PC. From simple physics engine limitations to lazy coding like weapons numbers USABLE at one time to your world out right deleting itself this game is a hot pile of garbage sometimes, and it…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is a lot jankier than it should be for how long it's been out. I love the concept and the galaxy but the combat, both human and ship is very crude. Plus the volume system is horrible, you need to "link" to cargo containers to place big things, or any number of things you can't carry in your inventory due to taking up too much space. But until you get a base you can't place cargo containers. Imagine building in Minecraft but you can only carry 4 blocks at a time. That's what early game base…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a very well rounded game. alot of fun. It can get as technical as YOU want it to get. If you want to hang out on the starter planets with the Bobs and stay simple and play EASY and RELAXING, you can. If you want to space travel 1,000 light years from the viking bay Bobs,, then get busy, get technical, and build a ship that can take you there. Go find an unexplored galaxy & star system where i promise you wont see any other players. Go find a nice habital planet to call your own…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DISCLAIMER: I HIGHLY suggest playing this game with Reforged Eden 2 mod/scenario, it adds so much content, and makes the game SO much better, you have no idea. I've gobbled up 200+ hours of this game in like a couple of weeks, and I'm honestly in love with it. Granted that I'm getting close to the endgame very soon, and it saddens me a bit, but come on, 200+ hours as a baseline for content is pretty amazing. RE2 has a giant galaxy with a ton of factions, missions, stories, creepy spooky…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to enjoy and give this game chances throughout different times, but every time i come and and try to play, bugs, lack of proper information, unbalanced play, broken mechanics made me hate it and delete it. I came back after two years of non playing, worked my level up to 25 and try to take down a base from distance with a Plasma Cannon instead of trenching and digging like a WW1 soldier, after all, game says it's effective range is 360 Meters, and i can shoot that far, right?…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →By far the best space survival game ever made. Dont listen to all the hate. Ever since the game got to steam they've had 1 or more updates every single month or nearly every single month. They do not abandon their game And every time i come back to play again I'm amazed by the new experience And new things added
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This feels like an over-ambitious project that was never finished I love and hate this game to be honest. It's a true sandbox where combat in general is pretty crappy, Your goal is less fighting and more building, collecting things and doing your own stuff. Storyline is poor, character animations is clunky and choppy but it is so vast with so many possibilities to build amazing things that I can't just drop it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've got over 1500 hours in this game, built some great ships, played the story to the end, died many times, explored hundreds of other planets. But there are Huge problems still. The game is Very old now, and it looks it. Terrible Ai bad guys, jankie as hell, no intelligence - they just stand there so you can shoot them and after a full clip they eventually die. The graphics of these bad guy is laughable - something from 2002! The 'Story' is text only, with a colourful font that's SO bad. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is No Man's Sky where you build your ships from the ground up instead of buy them, and it is a lot more combat oriented. The music is also grand. Excellent sci fi gritty exploration universe, and a little bit of horror.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fix your achievements. Permanently missable, time-limited achievements are unacceptable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yes I’ve played loads of hours, but they added a disgusting eating sound a while back and gave no way to turn it off. This is something only bad Devs do.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Do not recommend as long as the anniversary 2026 achievement still exists. Blows my mind they thought it was a good idea.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After 3000 hours in-game, I suppose it's time to leave a review. Here goes: Best game ever made. Flaws and all. There are few games that truly nail the joy of discovery, and Empyrion is just one of those rare & special once-in-a-lifetime titles that only an indy studio could create. Thanks Eleon, EGS multiplayer server community, & workshop creators for the many great times over the years.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game lacks proper balancing. POI combat is a slog, enemies being bullet sponges that hit like a truck, and the status effects are annoying. There is no real progression and the game is unstable. Finally, you are not allowed to make mistakes in singleplayer. If you forget to make backups frequently you will eventually lose all your progress to random bad design decisions. The game doesn't have proper autosave, and everything is saved to 1 file, meaning if you make a mistake or wish to roll…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Excellent idea, horrible execution. Most features feel unfinished and bugs are rampant. Things just kinda... happen, and it's very confusing. It feels like an MDickie game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Inexcusable for it to still be this unpolished after an early access of this length, but even worse in my view is the scummy time-sensitive FOMO achievement. Not a company I want to do business with in the future.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't recommend it. It could be fun in theory, but it feels like some basic features are missing. For example, I can't move around inside the ship while it's in motion. Also, there's a lack of challenges, especially for the endgame. A proper campaign might help.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Doesn't hold up well in 2026, in terms of either graphics or gameplay.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you enjoyed space engineers but felt like it was an endless grind to a storyless game, Empyrion is your game. Hands down the best space builder I've played yet!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this is by far one of the worst entries in both genres of sandbox and build'em'up that i can think of. eleven years of this game being basically un-patched early access trash clogging up libraries. my friends grabbed a couple copies for what we thought was cheap enough to warrant even a passing interest in the game only to be greeted with the singular worst experience i have ever had playing a game in any of its genres. graphics: rendering seems stable and optimized even on my very old card.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've put tons of hours into this game and no doubt I will continue to do so, so it's time I gave my support for this gem. TL DR: Fantastic space sandbox with a deep building system (less complex than Space Engineers, more complex than Avorion, i would rate). Marred by lots of rough edges and jank, but an immensely satisfying game to build in. Has plenty of content to interact with (tons of POIs, ships, planet types, etc) to slam your builds against. Blueprint system allows you to save your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really want to like this game but I just can't The major issue is the performance that is really awful compared to other games. I had this game in my inventory and was interested again but the as previous said performance issues was just too much to handle. Additionally the UI feels very low fidelity and outdated. The concept of the game is what I love. It might not be the most unique but still good for an interesting gameplay loop.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this one over Starfield and No Man's Sky for a couple of reasons. First, I think the scope is right. You kinda have to work for your gear and survival, and the baseline systems are a little more detailed and less wonky. Second, No Man's sky is too intertwined, pairing seamlessness with boring simplicity, and Starfield is too damn broad, with basically a low-quality flying mini game rather than what feels like earning your way into space paired with Skyrim-in-space FPS/RPG elements. This…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has gone through lots of phases and changes. The devs do great work and a lot of the past was not perfect, but they listen to their community and fix the issues when they arise. After a few years of seeing how the devs work I can say they try to listen as much as possible. The game is not perfect as bugs still creep up at times but it is an open space sandbox block game on unity engine after all. I can say with my experiance that the game is worth playing. The hard part is learning…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Amazing! (for single players) Could it be better? Sure... But picture this: You start the game, you know nothing about it, only that it's a survival game. It opens up and you're in an escape pod. You're falling to the ground fast! You rush for the controls to see if you can actually control it in any way... You can, but only left and right. Maybe I should aim for the water? Crash! My eyes open and I'm on the ground, outside the escape pod and apparently hurt. A little text shows up and tells…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →pretty amazing sandbox. got 1000 hours out of me on various themed playthroughs in reforged eden 1/2 presentation 2/10 onboarding 0/10 gameplay 9/10 people ive got to play it either bounce off within a few hours or obsess and think about it all day at work then log on till 6am. no inbetween
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With MOD Reforged Eden 2 (still receiving updates) this game is very fun to play. Yes it's hard, yes you will die, and yes the learning curve is steep. There will be issues, for example I had to redo my controls because the file got corrupted and the aim was jagged and broken. But hey, I love going into space with a space ship from the workshops and until now combat is tough and challenging both on foot and in the sky, planets have biomes with sometimes very tough and annoying enemies of all…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →janky as hell, comparing this to NMS, this game has atleast buildable ships but the space is empty, it's like space game from late 80's/early 90's with modern graphics that runs 20FPS
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Empyrion has plenty of Steam achievements, but some of the requirements are unnecessarily awkward for achievement hunters. The addition of a limited-time anniversary achievement is especially frustrating, because it means a complete achievement collection can depend on being available during a specific date window. I enjoy games having unusual achievements, but permanently missable, time-limited achievements are not something I want in my collection.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ACHIEVEMENT HUNTERS, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE I bought this game in 2021 and played it for almost 270 hours. Today i found out that achievements got added to the game. So the little achievement hunter that i am thought i could grind this one since it is usually a fun game. Well, the answer is nope. There is an achievement you can only get by playing the game within 1 month after August. Today is September 5th and i am no longer able to obtain this achievement. So i wont bother collecting the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it is a peticular game , not for eveyone . this game have some of the best and worse feature . ai behavior , hitbox ... worse i ever seen but the exploration and the building are amazing so i like it , until i get kill by a zirax shooting throught the floor . so its great but terrible just like a marriage . must recommanded Reforged Eden mods and thank you to the dev of the mods to make it better . i like peanut butter .
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game has a special little place in my heart and I think is one of the more underrated gems of this genre that's lacking volume in competition. Game is good, especially with the Reforged Eden 2 mod which adds a LOT of additional depth, missions, minigames, exploration, combat mechanics, new factions, POIs, etc. to the game. It's a small indie team, some jank is to be expected. The UI Definitely is clunky and takes time getting used to (It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Horrible game pushed to release with missing functions, poor optimization and strange bugs. The game's feel has not changed since early access and the same bugs that have plagued the game since then are still there. They ran out of money and put out an equally unfinished DLC, relying on the community to fix their game. Save your money and play No Mans Sky (Who wouldve expected to hear THAT 10 years ago lol)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine my surprise when I saw that this game wasn't Early Access
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a great game... Points of interest are well made by devs and kind of fun to explore... offers a good feeling of progression with ship and structure building. Offers no character progression. Graphics are a bit old - room for improvement NPCs are lacking. Performance has been an issue sense early access, has gotten better but still not that great. My biggest issue with this game is the fact that multiplayer servers reset forcing you to start over from scratch... It never feels good…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's hard to recommend without cringing really but I'll do it because even with all his faults (and there are quite a lot) it's still the best multi survival space flight/fight sim open-world sandbox around imho. It's janky as hell, it pushes the "don't-hold-the-player-hand" to extremes and the devs never focus on what they should but as long as Reforged Eden (overhaul mod) devs are around it will be worth the pain if it's the kind of games you're looking for. Just be prepared to probably…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →~~~If there is a change to allow for gamers to 100% it's achievements, I will change my review of the game and 100%, but until then, I can't recommend a game where the devs purposely made it impossible.~~~ I have had this game in my library for a while, but since I am achievement motivated I hadn't really picked it up compared to other similar games with achievements. I was really excited when I saw yesterday (9/12/26) that achievements had been added, only to learn that it's impossible for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Empyrion: Galactic Survival – A True Sandbox Space Adventure If you're looking for a game that gives you freedom instead of holding your hand, Empyrion: Galactic Survival is one of the best space sandbox games available. The game offers a huge variety of missions, but what really keeps me playing is that they're only one part of the experience. You can explore at your own pace, build an industrial empire, become a trader, hunt pirates, or simply head off into deep space to see what's out…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game looks beautiful, but i cannot recommend it to anyone until they fix the Controller Mapping. Currently theres no internal way to rebind keys for the controller, and the default layout they have is horrible, RS to Jump, etc etc. If you feel like registry editing, you can map them out that way, but thats definitely not recommended. I got the game for a dollar so i cant complain too much.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Masterpiece. edit: game is getting old and the ui, animation, graphics, all feel cheap but very nice ship/base building features, nice planets to explore. Recommended!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tried to like it. Was decent at first. Base building was nonsense... nothing I did worked. Help guide does not exist within the game like for so many other things. Afterwards got annoyed when told you can place a portable builder anywhere yet tried in a few different areas and prevents it everywhere... Tried adjusting the setting and nothing... Quest tracking doesnt work for everything. Certain quests require food that perishes too quickly to give in since its a distance and it expires after 2…
