Edgar - Bokbok in Boulzac
Developer La Poule Noire
Crackpot outcast Edgar sets out to Boulzac to save his squash, and instead uncovers an unearthly secret at the heart of the city. A colourful, surreal and utterly bonkers point-and-click narrative adventure. From the Steam store page

This game is more of an inept walking simulator. I expected it to be funny but I guess I did not understand most of the humor. I am unsure if the poor English is intentional or not. It is strange to call a game a point-and-click when the pointer does not do anything. Instead, we move the protagonist in an awkward 2.5 dimensional area, where you may be…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had an excellent time playing through Edgar. It is sweet and has great writing - I laughed a lot. Would recommend. Game was just the right amount of time for me (I rarely play very long games and would rather have shorter varied experiences).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not the worst game, but it's nothing memorable. The price is too high for the length and quality of the game. I got it for about 75% off, which is a fairer price. But it doesn't solve the issues with the game. First off, this is a point and click game that for some reason you can't play with a mouse. You have to use a keyboard or a gamepad. There's no advantage to doing this. You only use one button, and then you move Edgar with the arrow keys that you just as easily could have done by…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is going straight to my favorite. It's not particularly long but it's definitely a must play, even more as they now lowered the price of 50%. So what is the story about ? It's about Edgar, a lover of poulty and squash having to go to Boulzac, the village next to his plot of land, to find a mysterious ingredient to repair his "anti insect system" to save his pumpkins from the nasty nasty insects. What follows are events you'll encounter during this pretty cool game : - Precious.zip -…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm writing this while farming the 500 squashes achievement. You can only grow 6 at a time, it takes 3 minutes real time plus you can't save your progress. Yeah it's that kind of achievement. If the developer's goal was to gather negative reviews I'm happy to oblige. The game is not even particularly enjoyable. It looks like a Point and click game, but it's not. No mouse control, barely any puzzles, items are just used automatically when you interact with a hotspot. Lots of backtracking thanks…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →[url=store.steampowered.com/app/1007830/Edgar__Bokbok_in_Boulzac/]Edgar: Bokbok in Boulzac is a sympathetic point-and-click adventure without any of the pointing or clicking, and very little of the adventuring. It definitely looks like one, is approximately structured like one, but does not behave like one. Edgar feels more like a neo-retro walking sim, splendid and hollow, mainly due to poor interaction design that can't be saved by its lively environments and peculiar situations. Things…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Despite interesting words to advertise, such as "bokbok" or "boulzac," this adventure starring Edgar can't be saved with nifty non-words. Full review: https://www.keengamer.com/articles/reviews/pc-reviews/edgar-bokbok-in-boulzac-review-pc/ With questionable pacing, a lack of gameplay variety (even within its genre), and a story that only gets good as it ends, no amount of visual vivacity can save what is ultimately a memorably dull game. Apologies to Precious, who did nothing wrong and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7/10 Not great, but charming. Downvote because of the 'pumpkin' achievements. Why would you torture your customers like that?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A super weird point and click adventure. You have a chicken and it is your friend I guess? Also, you need pumpkins, for soup and this is important. The characters spout constant non sequiturs and the quests are as odd as anything. I love the art and the music. This is a very cool game. https://youtu.be/YETuPhSY4MA
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Morlan's shorts: This is your typical, by now, "sideways" recommendation. If you're looking for a short movie-style, type of "adventure" game, reading a lot of dialogues, many of which don't make much sense or are useful/funny/informative in any way but are basically ramblings of a (weird)Edgar fella.. and also like not having to make an effort but just walk through a game (back and forth repetitively) to uncover the story.. Go for it!.. but at a great discount. There isn't much action (but in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the humor is nice and the game is overall charming, there's barely any gameplay and just walking around the same locations over and over to find the next person you need to talk to becomes boring quite soon. From time to time, you get an item to use somewhere, but never on a level that it could be called an actual puzzle or riddle. Game's a bit too talky, too, so you start to just skip the texts at some point. Didn't hate it, but recommend? No.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edit: Did finish the game and enjoyed most of it. Would have been better if the action sequences were skippable: Stealth sequence in middle of game, chasing sequence at end. Was enjoying it until the frustrating action sequence where you have to sneak up to someone who looks over every two seconds, causing you to restart. Devs really need to start listing this type of thing on the store page. Liked the crazy story and simple artwork, strange and funny dialogues. Losing count of how many…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly humorous point and click. Where is Boulzac anyway? Silly story about a man and his chicken saving their garden. Lots of fun, great animation, odd quests and delicious soup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9IN7GJOupPs
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful, interesting, cute and absurd. If you like point&click games it's a very good game :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edgar – Bokbok in Boulzac is a delightfully absurd game about a crackpot hermit and his beloved chicken traveling to the big city. It only gets weirder from there. Intro Edgar – Bokbok in Boulzac (We’ll call it Bokbok for short) is an indie adventure game that’s completely absurd from start to finish. We’ll get into why that is shortly but if you’re a fan of adventure games do read on because it’s quite the wild game, to say the least. Story The main character is a crackpot hermit named…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too much annoying dialogues to read, i feel lost time to time, i like the visual style that's why i bought the game but still the gameplay is not that good.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun but frustrating ... The story is basic and totally bonkers. Moving around with just basic keyboard (WASD) is so annoying. It might be better with a controller. One of the achievements is for harvesting 500 pumpkins !!! This is ridiculous as only 6 can be planted at one time so it takes several hours to complete. Has to be done in a single session. I had this running as I watched a couple of movies and sorted email otherwise it would have been a total time waster.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a cool one evening game experience. Not hard, not grinding. Just a fun story wrapped in some minimalistic gameplay. It's fun to read, get to know characters with minimal given details. Some personal dramas here and there. Just a glimpse of a life of some small famouse village that lost its glory. I love games like this, they expand your experience without demanding much in return.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was intrigued by the story - and yes, the story is good. I really liked it. It's a simple, mostly relaxing game with an interesting story (things that are somehow so obvious you wouldn't expect and maybe some plot twists). idk: - achievements are weird: either they are story-related (and therefore basic) or they are incredibly unrelated and boring to obtain - no voiceover (you have to read all dialogue) + sometimes I press F by mistake and miss some dialogue and can't rewind it - you mostly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short and straightforward adventure game made with heart. There is not any voice acting or a lot of dialogue. This game does expect you to remember everything there is no notebook or reminder of what you need to do and you can't really ask characters again. Having said that the puzzles weren't overly difficult there is no combining things in inventory so you either have it or you don't. I was able to complete the game with no walkthroughs or hints, but did find myself backtracking through…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As someone who likes silly storylines, I found it entertaining. You think it’s just about some eccentric dude obsessed with his chicken and saving his pest-infested squash field, but it just keeps getting weirder. He goes into town and notices that something is sinister, but everyone just thinks he’s ‘a little off’ when he tries to bring it up (they’re kind of off in their own way). Since he is the only one who notices, he gets pulled into more than he originally planned. There were some…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A walking simulator, this is nothing like deponia or monkey island, its kind of like a point and click adventure game but not really it uses gamepad controls (yes i know monkey island 4 uses a gamepad, this is no monkey island) , u can collect items and use them but its basic, whilst it looks colourful and inviting on the surface i found it bland and creepy with its own nonsensical language and terminology dialogues. There are no voiceovers just lots of nonsensical text to read.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Come & taste some dada.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Both too short and too simple, it felt more like busy work than an actual adventure game. Not worth the money, even on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Je me suis bien marré, merci! XD
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short, sweet and will leave you wanting for more, just like a butternut squash pie.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Extremely poor gameplay. This is not a Point n' Click but a miserable walking simulator (with a dash of farming sim at the start, that you can turn into a ridiculous achievements marathon.) Or a backtracking simulator: After each action, all you need to do is revisit the handful of locations and talk again to anyone you see until you find the progression step that was just unlocked. No thinking whatsoever, no choices, no challenges. Nothing but a railroad of chores interrupted by tons of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished in a mere 3 hours. I still can't believe the devs had a chicken hum the Indiana Jones theme. It's a very easy game, with strong art direction and consistent coding principles. Mind me, it's not one of these life-changing experiences but it's really enjoyable for all the little QoL choices the team implemented. It reminds me a lot of Jenny LeClue: Detectivù. Now I'm wondering what La Poule Noire is working on…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A funny charming and bonkers short fun simple point and click adventure. Currently going cheap on Indie Gala and Gamersgate.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Edgar - Bokbok in Boulzac is a simple but competently made adventure just above short length. The animation is choppy but conceptually so and the world has the looks of a beautiful fairy-tale children's book but with more-than-average detail. In the span of the better part of evening you can dive into (and emerge from) an original, if not too deep, story. Surprisingly, this is not a point-n-click. Instead, this game has WASD movement and can be controlled single-handedly. Apparently, there is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's worth to play just for the ending credit song alone. Also hilarious
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was cute and made you think a little but not extreme critical thinking. The only thing I did not like is that I completed it in only 3 hours and it does mention it is a short game but for $20? I don't think 3 hours of game play is worth that; maybe $10-15. Try and wait to see if it goes on sale first.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Princess is the real hero! Bok! :) This game was an absolute delight. Charming and quirky in the best way. I didn't expect it, but the chicken was the star of the show
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun, super cute!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very fun! I started this game without reading the description. Made for a comedic evening. Worked great on steam deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a solid 3/5 for me. The art and music are nice, but the story and storytelling is a little lackluster. You spend most of your time walking around Boulzac talking to people who don't really say the most interesting things, and there aren't many things you can interact with, either, so yeah I do like the squash/pumpkin recipes at the end, though ;)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Did you like Night in the Woods? Would you like to know what it may have looked like had the writers been on shrooms the whole time? Then this is for you.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 ✦ good 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 ✦ delightly absurd 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐬 ✦ good 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐜 ✦ good 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐲 ✦ very easy 𝐀𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 ✦ horribly long harvesting ❤ 6/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute quirky quick point and click game :) Can beat in about 3 hours for a fun afternoon (my hours are up as I've decided to grind for the last few achievements :))
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very charming and fun game. I absolutely adore the art style and character designs. The chicken especially. :D First playthrough took me about 4 hours.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An easy and fun short game. Worth playing!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short, fun story with endearing characters. Some moments of absolute hilarity and absurdity. The puzzles are easy and mostly consist of walking around town trying to find the one thing I need to click next, but I still found this game was worth playing for the story alone.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →not bad lot of back and forth which can become tedious after so many times of doing it story not bad it took me 4 and half hours real play time as i forgot to pause it wait for sale as i did not worth the full price loved the chicken lol over all not bad game to pass your time with
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worst.Game.Ever.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not great, not terrible. It's simply a nice game. You won't really find any puzzles. The story is nice enough. The characters are okay. Honestly, there's neither anything bad nor good in this game. Everything is mediocre. Nevertheless, it looks like a nice first try.
